As we told you earlier, Tranceroute, one of the best trance music trackers currently online, just opened public signups. Signups will be open till 01.01.2009 11am GMT (12am CET/ 2pm MSK) - till then you can register for free without the need for an invite code. Singles, albums, mixes, promos, music videos and lots of other English music torrents can be downloaded from TranceRoute tracker.

At the time this post is being written, TranceRoute tracks over 7200 torrents. The exact number of registered users is not known. Music from a number of different music genres such as Disco, Dream, Electro, Techno, etc can be found here. This includes over 500 torrents of lossless music. In addition, TranceRoute has one of the best exclusive releases section I have seen on a BitTorrent tracker.

 

A lot of good things can be said about this tracker. TranceRoute has a really cool, unique interface which is easy to navigate. It’s browse page includes tabs such as ‘totally fresh tunes’, ‘exclusives’, ‘trusted uploads’ etc – this really enhances the visibility of content on the tracker.

For those who are obsessed with tracker levels, TranceRoute is a level 4 tracker (if memory servers correct). Signups are open and this is a music have tracker if you are a music fan.

TranceRoute – Trance music torrent tracker signups open

We’ve posted about many private torrent trackers on FILEnetworks Blog but there have only been very few articles on dedicated software (appz or application) trackers such as Appz BitShock, Appzuniverse, LinuxTracker and TuxDistro. SmartApps is a private torrent tracker specializing in software for Windows, Mac and Linux platforms. It’s the sister site of Dynamic-Universe, a new general tracker we reviewed earlier.

As we said SmartApps is quite new and has only around 260 members (at the time this post is being written). There are however over 400 torrents indexed on this tracker. Majority of the content comprise of scene releases of Windows applications. Additionally, there are some Mac, Linux appz as well as smaller PC games available on SmartApps. 

One thing I noticed is that even though this tracker currently has a small user base, most of the new torrents have 4-5 seeders each. This is adequate (and better than some general trackers which have 1 seeder on every torrent) and provides satisfactory download speeds most of the time.

SmartApps – New private torrent tracker for Windows, Mac, Linux software

Updated builds of AnyDVD and AnyDVD HD have been released. You should be familiar with these apps by now but if you don’t know, AnyDVD is a software that can bypass many DVD and Blu-Ray copy protection schemes. It’s developed by SlySoft who were the first to crack the BD+ (Blu-Ray) copy protection scheme. When run in combination with DVD ripper applications such as CloneDVD, this is one of the easiest methods to make backups of copy protected/encrypted DVD and Blu Ray disks.

Version 6.5.03 includes support for the new BD+ copy protection system. AnyDVD and AnyDVDHD were also discussed in our previous post located here.

Developer Description

AnyDVD is a driver, which descrambles DVD-Movies automatically in the background. This DVD appears unprotected and region code free for all applications and the Windows operating system as well. With AnyDVD's help copy tools like CloneDVD, Pinnacle Instant Copy, InterVideo DVD-Copy, etc. are able to copy CSS protected Movies. You can remove the RPC region code, thereby making the movie region free and viewable on any DVD player and with any DVD player software. With the help of AnyDVD you can watch movies with non matching region codes with every DVD Player Software you like.

AnyDVD is capable of removing unwanted movie features, including subtitles and prohibition messages such as copyright and FBI warnings. It also allows you to launch an external application whenever inserting or removing a disc, or prevent 'PC-friendly' software from automatically launching when inserting a video DVD.  AnyDVD decrypts not just DVDs: AnyDVD allows you also to play, copy and rip protected Audio CDs! Decryption is not all that AnyDVD offers. You can control the drive speed of your DVD drive, allowing you to reduce the noise level when watching movies on your PC. You can even adjust the display frequency of your monitor for both NTSC and PAL displays.

First of all let me tell you that this news will only be useful to existing members of RevolutionTT tracker. Since we have posted several times about RevTT open signups before, I assume we have a good number of readers who are already RevTT members.    /RevoTT !invite NICK abcdefggherhjklghfdjkhfds
   (This command is unique to each username). Copy this command to clipboard.
4. Now click this link –> irc://irc.revolutiontt.net. Choose to open the link with mIRC when your web browser prompts.
5. If mIRC presents you with a ‘Link Request’ window, choose ‘Change to the new server’ option and press ok.
6. Once connected, type the command you copied on step 2 into the console and press enter. You will be invited to the #RevolutionTT channel.

Currently there are 1500+ users online. This number will rise as the news spreads – don’t be left out.

RevolutionTT Holiday IRC Bonus – Win gigabytes of free upload credit

Run As Date is a rather uncommon but pretty useful piece of software.  It allows you to run specific programs with date and time settings of your choice. RunAsDate is basically a launcher which injects (no actual program modifications) user specified date and time settings to applications launched through it. Your system time will remain unchanged but the launched apps will believe the current date and time to be the one specified by Run As Date.

This application can help you with those ‘trial or beta period expired’ error messages – majority of such time limited installers will let you install expired trials or betas if you run them with appropriate date/time settings. This is just one use of RunAsDate and I’m sure you’ll find many other scenarios where this application will be useful.

Note: If you have AVG Anti Virus or Internet Security, you may get a Trojan horse alert when trying to use this application. This is a false positive and is not actually a virus.

RunAsDate 1.05 – Set program specific dates and times without changing system time

We’ve mentioned about this tracker before but it’s well worth another post. Wild-Bytes is a private torrent tracker which tracks general content (Software, Movies, Games, Music, E-Books, Kids content, etc) and ) and 0-Day appz releases. Currently, there are around 8700 members on this tracker and the site has over 3200 indexed torrents. Wild-Bytes indexes all major scene and p2p releases and most of these torrents are well seeded.

In addition, they do track several unique packs (game packs, Movies packs, DVD covers packs, etc) unique to the site as well:

Some of the torrents (including packs) on WB are on free leech (download not counted and only the upload is added to the user’s stats). Freeleech torrents have an animated gold coin next to their title. Wild Bytes also has a requests feature where existing members can request releases that have not been uploaded to the site.

As mentioned in the title of this post this tracker is currently open for signup. Wild-Bytes frequently deletes inactive members so don’t bother joining this tracker if you do not plan to be an active member there. The site has a user limit of 9000 which means there are around 200 spots available for the taking. Check it out - WB is a decent general tracker.

Wild-Bytes (WB) - General & 0-Day releases tracker signups open - 30/12/2008

Since this question was asked many times in our invitation giveaway threads, we decided to post and article about it. One of the most common problems you may encounter with Demonoid registration process is the error message “ We are full. Sorry, since the server is too saturated, we can not accept more members at the moment. However, new spots are opened every day, so please, check back later”. This article discusses a few things you can do to get around this message if you ever encounter it while trying to register for a new Demonoid account.

As far as I know, this message can pop up when you are trying to register for a Demonoid account with an invitation code as well as when you are trying to register during an open signup period. Initially I thought Demonoid had a fixed user limit as in most other private torrent trackers. However this cannot be as the error message is not displayed universally to all users (i.e- Users in some parts of the world are able to sign up while some users continue get the error message). Perhaps Demonoid limits the number of registrations/registration attempts from a certain IP range. Either way, there are several things you can to do get around this problem:

1. If you have a dynamic IP, change your IP address and try signing up with the new IP. Usually disconnecting and reconnecting your internet connection will change your IP address.

2. Use a proxy site or an anonymization service to access Demonoid. Simply type http://www.demonoid.com in the text field where you have to enter the target web site and begin browsing. If it does not work with one site, try using another. I tested this method using www.anonymouse.org and it worked just fine. Demonoid’s FAQ does not say anything against the use of proxy sites so I guess it’s within the rules to sign up via a proxy. Solution to Demonoid “We are full - server is too saturated” error message

Yesterday, some of our readers experienced a “Reported Attack Site” error when trying to visit FILEnetworks Blog. We are happy to inform that this error is now fixed.

So was there any malware hosted on FILEnetworks Blog at any point? Hell no. The warning signal was triggered by some interstitial ads (full page ads) that were placed by one of our advertisers. This ad service has now been completely removed from the blog. You can find the Google Safe Browsing Diagnostic Report for FILEnetworks Blog from here http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=http://filenetworks.blogspot.com.

Immediately after the warning was issued several hours ago, our search engine traffic collapsed to nothingness. However most of our regular visitors kept visiting the site despite the warnings – there was no reduction in returning visitor count. We are honored by the trust you placed in us and are extremely sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. The site should now appear normal on all browsers and even the search engine has returned back to normal. Cheers.

Reported Attack Site Error - Fixed

A new version of RivaTuner has been released. RivaTuner is a small utility which you can use to tweak a number of settings related to your NVIDIA video card. These settings are usually not changeable via default driver control panel. This includes monitoring GPU core temperature, controlling fan speed, Overclocking and a number of other low level and driver level settings.

RivaTuner 2.22 adds ForceWare 181.XX (including 181.00) driver support. It also includes support for ForceWare 180.87 and 180.88 versions. This should eliminate the forceware version not supported error messages at startup. I use RivaTuner mainly to monitor my VGA temperature. Another useful feature is that you can change the GPU fan speed at the driver level. If you are having graphcis card overheating problems, first try increasing fan speed to 100% using Rivatuner (NVIDIA’s GPU fans usually run at 60% of max speed by default).

RivaTuner 2.22 – Detect GPU temperature, Control fan speed, Overclock and change driver settings

There is quite a bit of talk on Romanian BitTorrent users these days with Waffles.fm banning Romanian IP ranges and ScT planning to enforce a similar ban. I’ve seen some heated arguments going on in various BitTorrent forums and sites about this issue but this article is not aimed at discussing ethics behind country bans. Romania is a country which has hundreds of private BitTorrent trackers of their own. Here is a list of some Romanian private trackers that are currently open for public signups.

We’ve included both general trackers and niche trackers (music trackers, E-learning trackers, appz trackers, etc) in this list. If you are not from Romania and are wondering if these trackers will be of any use to you, yes they will be very useful. Why? 8 Romanian private torrent trackers open for signup

Yesterday we reported about the first Beta build of Windows 7 (Version 6.1 build 7000 or build number 6.1.7000.0.081212-1400) being leaked on BitTorrent. Just a day or so after the release was leaked, pirates have managed to find a workaround to indefinitely extend the trial period of the OS. There seem to be several different ‘activators’ or ‘cracks’ for Windows 7 Beta 1, most of which are based on resetting or re-arming the free trial period of the OS.

Microsoft did not introduce any major changes in Windows 7 build 7000 (beta 1 carrying version 6.1.7000.0.081212-1400) over the previous build (build 6969). It would not be wrong to assume that the anti piracy measures and the activation process in both builds remained unchanged. Perhaps this made it easier for pirates to find a workaround for Beta 1 as activation cracks for pre beta builds of Windows 7 had been around for a while. One of the most popular workarounds for Build 7000 seem to be the ones based on TimerNuke - a mechanism which can manipulate the trial period countdown timer of the OS. In addition to installation/un-installation of TimerNuke, some of these cracks seem to have the ability to remove the watermark as well as to stop the OS from sending feedback (call home) to Microsoft.

However, one must remember that this is still a beta build of Windows 7. Microsoft probably is saving the best anti piracy measures to be fully implemented in the final builds of the OS. Also note that these timestopper or re-arm cracks are known to be unreliable – sometimes they won’t work, sometimes they’ll appear to be working but the OS will still expire, etc. However even in the case of Windows Vista, pirates started out with time stopper workarounds but then managed to release more advanced cracks such as those based on BIOS emulation by the time a Final build of Vista was released. As for me, I’m just waiting for Microsoft to introduce the next major anti piracy measure for Windows 7 to resume watching the everlasting battle between Pirates vs MS.

Pirates crack Windows 7 Beta 1 (Build 7000) activation

Dynamic Universe (DU) is a relatively new private torrent tracker which managed to show some promise has in the past two months. Although it’s only about 9 weeks old, Dynamic Universe has managed to index and track over 3300 active torrents. The site’s total user base now exceeds 1100. Both scene and p2p releases (movies, music, games. TV Shows, E-Books, etc) are indexed on Dynamic Universe.

For a start up tracker, DU seems to be doing really good. Instead of a bunch of torrents with only 1 seeder and slow download speeds (which is typical for most new trackers), DU indexes all major scene and p2p releases which usually get 4-5+ seeders. Apart from individual releases, this tracker has some unique packs of its own :

As you can probably guess from the screenshots+, a lot of complete TV season packs (among others) can be found on Dynamic Universe. Make sure you have a look inside ‘Movies/Packs’ category and ‘TV/Packs’ category – you may find some good collections after all.

Dynamic-Universe – Private torrent tracker with general content

Looks like the year 2008 is not going to end too well for Romanian BitTorrent users. SceneTorrents (ScT), an ‘elite’ private torrent tracker, is considering banning Romanian IP ranges from accessing the site and the tracker. Note than this ban is not enforced at the time this post is being written. But the word on ScT’s IRC channel and forum is that it will soon come into effect (Hint- Current topic of Sct IRC is :: [ SCT IRC ] :: [ Upcoming .ro ban ] :: ).

ScT’s move comes only a day after Romanian users were banned from the popular music tracker Waffles.fm.  From what I have gathered (from forum posts and ScT IRC channel), what started the chain of events was ‘feeling’ (ScT SysOP) getting tipped off about several Romanian members conducting public giveaways of ScT invites (which is prohibited by tracker rules).

If you are an existing ScT member from Romania and did not violate any of the tracker rules (no cheating, no account trading, etc) there is very little reason to worry. According to ‘feeling’, every Romanian user account on the site will be manually reviewed before a ban is issued. However, this ban, if enforced is likely to prevent any new Romanian users from gaining access to the tracker.

SceneTorrents (ScT) to ban Romanian IP ranges?

The first beta build of Microsoft’s upcoming operating system Windows 7 has leaked on Bittorrent networks. What seems to be a full (untouched) DVD ISO image of the Windows 7 Beta 1 (Version Windows 7 6.1.7000.0) has now made its was across several different public and semi private torrent networks.

There does not seem to be any official confirmation from Microsoft about the leak. The claim of this release being ‘Windows 7 Beta 1’ depends solely upon the assumption that first Windows 7 beta will carry build number 7000. The ‘about window’ of Windows Media Center in the leaked build states the version number as Windows 7 build 6.1.7000.0 (winmain.win7beta.081212-1400). This matches the build number of Windows 7 Beta 1 stated in ZDNet blog so it looks very much like the real deal.

Although pirates did seemingly manage to crack pre beta builds of Windows 7, there does not seem to be a crack associated with this release. From what it looks like, this is an untouched (no files modified or cracked) ISO image of the ‘Windows 7 Ultimate Beta 1’ and it is set to expire on the 1st of July 2009. That being said, there are already over 10000 people downloading the torrent on one well known public BitTorrent tracker alone.

Windows 7 Beta 1 (Build 7000) leaked on Bit Torrent

We’ve previously posted a lot of BitTorrent trackers such as MVGroup (Open) and Docs.Torrents.Ro (Open) from where you can download premium documentaries. But none of these were dedicated documentary sites. Docs4You is perhaps the first site posted on FILEnetworks Blog which specializes in documentaries. It however is not a BitTorrent tracker – it’ a forum which contains hundreds of verified one click hosting links to premium documentaries and TV Shows.

Although you may not have heard about this site before, Docs4You is not a small forum by any means -There are currently over 23000 registered members. Hundreds of documentary videos from channels such as Discovery, National Geographic, Animal Planet, BBC, PBS, HBO, Frontline, Imax, Channel 4 and lots more can be found on this site. In addition, Docs4You has a small section where links to regular TV series can also be found.

Download links on this forum are pretty reliable - Most links point to RapidShare hosted content but I have never run into a fake or a virus infected file so far. For those interested, registrations are currently open.

Docs4You – Download BBC, Discovery, History Channel and NGC Documentaries for free

Several days ago, we posted 5 new registration keys to popular private torrent tracker Pretome.net. These keys were obtained from Pretome torrents uploaded to public torrent trackers. Avoid spam E-Mail with Spamihilator 0.9.9.44

Just when we were talking about Romanian BitTorrent users, here is a Romania based private torrent tracker opening signups. ARM Tracker is a general/0Day tracker with lots of English scene and p2p releases. It’s been around for a while and currently indexes nearly 1500 active torrents. Exact number of users on this tracker is unknown but most of the new torrents are pretty well seeded.

In addition to individual scene and p2p torrents, ARM Tracker has a good collection of packs. I noticed that several of these packs had tags such as ‘BiTT’ and ‘BestShare’ which perhaps means that they were obtained from other Romanian trackers such as Bittorrents.ro (Open) and BestShare.ro (Down). Nevertheless don’t forget to check the packs section on ARM Tracker:

Most of these packs are on free leech which is a good thing given that some of them exceed 100GB in size. Pre times on this tracker are average – Don’t expect SCC or SCT pres but they will not be painfully slow either. Signups are currently open so interested readers may join for free.

ARM Tracker (Torrent-Arm) signups open

DVDFab is an application which I have come to trust over the years. It’s probably one of the easiest ways to copy, covert and burn copy protected DVDs. DVDFab can successfully copy DVDs protected by CSS, CPPM, RC, RCE, APS, UOPs, ARccOS, RipGuard, FluxDVD and CORE X2 protection mechanisms. DVDFab Platinum 5.2.2.2 Final – Convert and copy DVD movies

We recently posted about the A-Patch which allows you to remove advertisements in Windows Live Messenger. Here is a similar application that can remove advertisements in AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Not only can it disable ads but it can also remove unwanted software such as Viewpoint Media Player and WildTangent which come bundled with some AIM installations.

AIM ad hack functions similar to A-Patch. First you get to select which options you want to apply. Then all you have to do is it patch AIM with the press of a button. This is a one time thing and then you can forget about it altogether (no need to keep the hack running in the background). No one really likes ads on their IM so we hope you’ll find this little application pretty useful.

Remove advertisements in AIM using AIM Ad Hack

DVDQuorum is a Spanish private torrent tracker with both English and Spanish movies. Just like BitHQ, TheDVDClub and AsianDVDClub (Open), DVDQuorum tracks full DVDs of movies and TV Shows which contain original menus, audio streams and subtitles. You won’t find any XViD encoded DVDRips on this tracker as it only indexes untouched DVD5 and DVD9 releases (for XViD rips, try these movie trackers).

With over 43000 members and over 13500 indexed torrents, DVDQuorum is one of the largest DVDR trackers currently online. Note that this tracker has some Spanish movies. But majority of the releases are either English or Multilanguage. If you are a non Spanish user and want to make sure the movie you download has English audio, check the ‘Forum Link’ (The Blue Icon) next to torrent title. This will take you to a forum post with detailed information on that particular release.

Also note that every torrent has two titles. One on the top is in Spanish and the other one (marked by a red arrow in above screenshot) is the English name. A torrent with a Spanish title does not necessarily mean it’s a Spanish language release – Always check the forum link (marked by the red circle) to determine the available spoken languages on the DVD. Note that English is sometimes referred to as Inglés on this tracker Ex- AUDIO: Español Dolby Digital 5.1, Inglés Dolby Digital 5.1.

DVDQuorum – Private tracker with full DVD movies – Signups open

Update: It appears that Waffles.fm has now lifted the ban on Romania. Good news for our Romanian readers :)

Waffles.fm, one of the best private music torrents trackers, has banned all Romanian users from the site since the 23rd of December. The ban has not only affected potential new users but has resulted in existing Waffles members who are from Romania not being able to access the site as well.

Below is quoted from an update posted by a mod @ Waffles.fm:

Due to Romania being largely a cesspool of spam, viruses, phishing, and fraud, and phishing attempts, fraudulent donations, cheating, and the like from various Romanian IPs with zero action on the part of Romanian ISPs, Romania is hereby banned from Waffles. Please take care to not invite people if you know they're in or from Romania. We will not take action against you, but may change tune in the future.

Waffles is not the only tracker to ban Romania – several other high level trackers such as SCC have been blocking Romanian IP ranges for quite a while now. In almost all of these cases, the cause of the ban (as explained by tracker admins) has been above-the-norm number of cheaters being reported from Romania. Obviously this does not mean that every Romanian BitTorrent user is a cheater – it’s a prime example of how a handful of cheaters can ruin it for a number of good users who probably followed every tracker rule.

On the other hand, I can’t understand why anyone from Romania would want to cheat. As far as I know broadband connections in Romania are damn fast. Plus they have some of the best private trackers around such as iPlay, SceneFZ, CZONE (which AFAIK is an actual ISP), TorrentBits (Open) all of which have tons of Romanian users and still have great download speeds.

Waffles.fm bans Romanian users

It’s a well known fact that you need to have your Anti Virus software up to date in order to be protected from latest viruses and other malware. Most security software vendors tend to provide updates over the internet. But what if you have a computer that is not connected to the internet or is having limited internet connectivity (low bandwidth, data cap, etc)? This article describes how you can update your Anti Virus software manually using offline definition updates.

Although most Anti Virus software have a built in automatic updates feature, vendors tend to release standalone update installers usually through their official website. Once you download one of these offline installers, you can use it to update virus definition files even on Anti Virus software installed on computers without internet access (Ex- Download offline installer from work computer which has internet access and then use the installer to update home computer which is not connected to the internet). Below is a list of locations where you can find and download offline definition update installers for several popular Anti Virus software.

1. Kaspersky Internet Security and Kaspersky Anti Virus

Offline updates for Kaspersky version 5, 6 and version 7 products can be downloaded from this page. If you are using the new Kaspersky Anti Virus 2009 or Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 products, there is a separate procedure you need to follow. 2. AVG
 
These offline definition updates are for the free version of AVG. AVG 7.5 offline updates can be downloaded from this page while AVG 8.0 definition updates can be found here.

3. Mcafee
 
Note that not all of Mcafee’s Anti Virus products support offline updating. I’m not sure if products such as Mcafee Total Protection 2009 can be updated offline. However, updating some versions such as VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i/8.7i is possible. You can download the latest virus definition .DAT files from this page.
Note: DAT files are definition updates, SUPERDAT files are definition + scan engine updates

4. BitDefender
 
Although many people don’t know, BitDefender releases offline updates for almost all of its security products including BitDefender Internet Security 2009. All of these updates can be downloaded from this page.

5. Symantec/Norton security products
 
Most Norton Anti Virus products and Symantec Anti Virus products including corporate versions can be updated offline. Visit this page and choose your product under ‘Download Definitions by Product’ option.

6. Trend Micro
 
Trend Micro offers pattern files to update a number of security products offline including Trend Micro Internet Security. Latest pattern files and installers can be obtained form this page.

7. Sophos
 
Sophos definition files are called Virus Identity Files (IDE) - self extracting zip files with latest IDE files are released regularly. You can download them from here. Note that Sophos products older than 3 months cannot be updated offline.

8. F-Secure
 
F-Secure regularly releases a file named latest.zip which includes the newest virus definition files. You can download and use this file to update your F-Secure security product manually. The most current version of latest.zip and a tutorial on how to manually update can be found on this page. 

9. Avast
 
Only 4.X versions of Avast! can be updated offline. You can download the iAVS utility which will update your Avast! product automatically. Latest iAVS can be freely downloaded from this page. 

10. Avira
 
A number of Avira products such as Avira Antivir Windows Professional, Avira AntiVir Premium and Avira Premium Security Suite can be updated offline using the VDF update. You can download latest offline definition files for Avira from here.

VLC Media Player is one of the easiest ways to play X264, MP4 and other file formats which are not supported by Windows Media Player by default. VLC media player 0.9.8a – Direct Download + Torrent Links

Popular private torrent tracker Torrent-Damage has been down for maintenance for the past week or so. According to the administrators of the site, the reason for the downtime is that they are upgrading to TDv2 - a new and improved interface for the site. Torrent Damage v2 was scheduled to go online on the 23rd of December but it remains offline as of today (25th December). There is however, nothing to worry about.

We’ve already got several emails from concerned members regarding the cause of the extended downtime. This is perhaps due to the notice on site’s homepage not being updated properly – it still says the site would be back up on the 23rd. TD’s IRC channel however has some fresh news:

The site is down until Boxing Day (26th) (estimated)

We are busy implementing a new front and back end name TDv2

Your accounts will get migrated and you will keep same stats

You will probably need to reset your password - these are encrypted and cannot be transferred

Torrent Damage down for maintenance, TDv2 to be launched

2008 was a relatively good year for PC games with many popular titles such as Spore, Mass Effect, GTA 4, Fallout 3 and Red Alert 3 being released. There are no more major new PC titles to be released this year – why not play a classic game while we wait for new PC titles to hit the streets in 2009? Prince of Persia 1 was where it all started for many present day gamers.

In Prince of Persia 1 (POP1), the player assumes control of the prince. The goal is to rescue the princess imprisoned by the Jaffar. In order to rescue her, the prince must make his way to the top of the castle through a dungeon filled with many baddies and hazards. I’ve beaten this game countless times since 1993 (that’s when I got hold of it) but it never gets old – even in 2008. POP 1 is a true masterpiece and I think every gamer out there should play it at least once (It’s only 339KB).

Another decent private BitTorrent tracker just opened signups. GBvNET is a general/0Day tracker which has pretty much everything (movies, music, games, books, etc). This tracker has been around for 2+ years and currently tracks close to 5000 torrents. Exact number of registered members is unknown. Apart from the simple, clean interface and decent pre times, a notable feature of GBvNET is the large number of torrent packs (collections) indexed.

 

Out of the ~4800 or so indexed scene and p2p releases, an impressive number of over 1000 torrents are exclusive GBvNET releases. These unique releases range from complete TV season packs, music packs, movies packs, anime packs to even sports packs. Don’t believe us? GBvNET Torrent Tracker – Scene/P2P releases and Packs

IsoBuster Pro 2.5.0.0 Final

Podtropolis is a public BitTorrent index and a tracker which specializes in iPod optimized media. You can find thousands of iPod ready movies, music and TV shows on Podtropolis and download them for free using a BT client. This tracker is created and maintained by the same folks behind ISOhunt so you know you are in good hands.

Podtropolis do have their own BitTorrent tracker but torrents tracked by external trackers such as Demonoid and rarbg are also indexed. You don’t need to register to download from any of these trackers. As for the content, almost every movie, TV show and music video on this tracker is optimized to be played in Apple’s iPod devices. We’ve posted about a lot of E-Learning and E-book torrent trackers in our private trackers section but PDFCHM (aka LearnIT) is a bit different. It’s not a torrent tracker but a site that offers direct download links to popular E-Books ranging from fiction to educational topics. Currently there are over 1000 books online.

At a glance, PDF CHM may look like a book catalogue where you can purchase E-Books. But that’s not exactly what it is. You need to register and login to see the download links. Unlike most of the ebook sites we have posted before, PDFCHM does not point to one click hosting links or torrent links. It stores files in its own server (Or so it seems). In my experiences with the site, download speeds were quite good.

You can browse books by year, by publisher or by popularity. There is also a search option where you can search for a specific book. Remember that to see download links, you need to register and log in. 20 invites are given to every new user.

Nano-Net (NnN) is a private torrent tracker which tracks general content (not a niche tracker). 0Day releases and other torrents including movies, music, TV shows and software can be found on this tracker. Nano-Net has Romanian origins but majority of its content comprise of English scene and P2P releases. It’s a relatively new site but has already managed to index over 1100 torrents.

First thing I noticed about Nano-Net is the layout. Nano-Net is not a gazelle tracker but it does have a sleek and great looking layout complete with cool category icons. It somehow reminded me of the interface on SCL (The Clover). As for the content on NNN, you can find pretty much all new scene and p2p releases here. They have a new packs category under whichsome nice movie packs are already indexed:

Don’t worry about the RoSub/RoSubbed tags much if you are a non Romanian user. These simply mean that Romanian subtitles are included with the release. You can easily replace these with any other subtitle file (another language) or you have the option to remove subtitles altogether.

Nano-Net has most of the ‘value added’ features a private tracker can have; there is a karma bonus points system where you can trade bonus points for upload credit, a requests section where you can request releases and a discussion forum. Nano-Net (NnN) – General/Zero-Day torrent tracker signups open

I started gaming back in 1993 on a computer which had a 40MHz processer and ran MS-DOS. Over 15 years have passed and I still love those old DOS games which I used to play back then. Unfortunately, most modern OS such as Windows Vista does not include native MS DOS support – you’ll get error messages if you try to run DOS games or apps on such operating systems. This is where DOSBox comes in – DOSBox is an MS-DOS emulator which will help you run all your favorite DOS games and applications on Windows Vista, Linux, Mac OS X and a number of other operating systems.

If you are currently using Windows Vista, whenever you try to run a DOS game or an app the following error will be displayed: “This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose ‘Close’ to terminate the application”. If you ignore it an continue, another error is likely to follow and the program will shut down. With DOSBox around, you will have to face no more of this nuisance.

How to download and configure DOSBox

1. Download DOSBox from the official download page.
2. Once the download is complete, run the installer and install DOSBox.
3. Now you need to move your DOS games and applications to a single directory. For example, create a directory C:\DosGames and move all your DOS games under that directory. (It’s better to place each game in a separate subdirectory Ex- C:\DosGames\Dave\…, C:\DosGames\Prince\…, etc)
   
   Note: Steps 4-9 is based on the assumption that your dos games directory is C:\DosGames. If you used another directory, change the commands accordingly.
   
4. Run DOSBox. Type the following command in DOSBox command prompt:
   mount c C:\DosGames
5. Now you will be able to navigate to C:\DosGames directory using standard DOS commands and run any game placed inside that folder. If you have forgotten DOS commands, read on.
   
6. Type C:\ and press enter in the DOSBox console.
7. Type DIR and press enter. A list of subdirectories in the DosGames folder will be displayed.
8. You can browse to any subdirectory in the DosGames folder using the cd command. Ex- to browse to Dave directory simply type:
   cd Dave and press enter.
9. Once you are in the game directory, type the game executable and press enter to play. This executable can be found using the DIR command.

HD movie torrent tracker HD-Bits.Ro signups open - 22/12/2008

Some good news for those who love Indian (Bollywood) movies. ExDesi or ExtremeDesi is a private torrent tracker and a forum which has lots of Hindi movie torrents. It however is not a dedicated movies tracker - you can find Indian/Pakistani music, TV shows, documentaries, stage shows (live performances) and even sports torrents on ExDesi. At the time this post is being written, this tracker has a user base in excess of 48000 active members and tracks close to 2700 torrents.

If you are looking for English movies, you won’t find them on ExDesi (for English movie trackers, look here ). Although I did manage to find some new English movies on this tracker, they were all dubbed in Hindi. Hindi movies on ExDesi however do come complete with English subtitles (most of the time). Releases by Indian P2P groups such as BrG, DUS, xDR and DDR can be found on this tracker. Apart from torrents, ExDesi has an online streaming links section and a direct download links/one click hosting links section in its forums.

ExDesi is usually closed for signups but as of this moment it has opened registrations for a short while. A note on the site reads:

After TorrentVault (posted yesterday), here is another large General/0Day tracker with open signups. iLoveTorrents is a popular private torrent tracker which tracks movies, music, games and other general content. iLT has been online for more than 3 years and it’s grown onto become one of the larger private trackers currently around. As of today , iLT tracks over 4500 active torrents (100k+ torrents total) and has a huge user base of 65000+ registered members.

Like most general/0Day trackers out there, iLT tracks both scene and p2p releases. Download speeds are generally good and pre times seem to be decent. In addition to individual releases, iLT has some great collections such as several HD movie packs, comics packs and games packs. They also have some unique music releases.

Like some trackers such as RevolutionTT, Bitsoup and TorrentLeech, iLoveTorrents has ‘wait times’ enabled; users with a low download:upload ratio and a low upload amount usually have to wait several hours till they can download latest torrents. On iLT, the wait time is calculated according to the formula below:

Ratio below 0.50 and/or upload below 5GB - delay of 24h

Ratio below 0.65 and/or upload below 5GB - delay of 12h

A DVDRip of the 2008 comedy flick ‘Disaster Movie’ has leaked on the internet. 5MeOAMT, a group in the warez scene is behind the leak. According to 5MeOAMT’s NFO, leaked version is the Unrated edition of Disaster Movie. The release comes as a standard (700MB) rip and seems to be of great quality. As for the movie, it has a poor IMDB rating of 1.3 and there are many negative reviews floating around.

DVDRip of ‘Disaster Movie’ leaked

About a week ago, we posted an article on how to get invited to Torrent-Vault tracker for free. Unfortunately their IRC channel quickly became invite only and just a few readers managed to obtain a free invitation code. If you could not make it inside back then, here is some good news – Torrent Vault is now open for signup and you can create an account without the need for an invite code.

Torrent Vault is an excellent private torrent tracker with lots of movies, music, games, E-books, TV shows and other general content. Download speeds and pre times on this tracker are pretty good. Currently, Torrent-Vault tracks over 4500 torrents. Total number of registered members on this tracker is unknown. The recent shut down of SceneFeed seems to have further strengthened the user base and torrent index at Torrent Vault (SceneFeed was shut down to pool more resources to TorrentVault).

This tracker indexes both scene and P2P releases. One thing I have noticed with TorrentVault is that they have a lot of unique torrents such as X264 encoded TV episodes and even some complete TV season packs. These can be identified using the ‘TorrentVault’ tag on the torrent title.

Ever since we reported the release of Grand Theft Auto IV two weeks ago, we’ve been getting a continuous stream of E-Mails asking for patches, trainers and other stuff related to the game. This post will hopefully answer all of those questions – Trainers, Savegames, Patches, Cheats and FAQs we find on the net for GTA 4 will be listed here. This article will be updated if we find anything new so don’t forget to check back time to time.

GTA IV Trainer

If you’ve been reading our previous posts, you may already know that this game’s configuration files are protected by Windows Live (Here is how to unlock). This makes it insanely hard to make a trainer for this game. Nevertheless, folks over at Cheathappens have managed to create one but there is a catch – it’s only available to unlimited members of Cheathappens (to become one you need to pay). If the link to full trainer gets leaked, we will update it here. Until then, you’ll have to use the GTA 4 promotional trainer which has only one option (unlimited money).

GTA IV Patch 1

Patch 1 has been available for some time now. I installed it but did not notice any performance increase whatsoever. The following problems with the game however are fixed with Patch 1:

• Fix to the crash after legal screen that some German customers were reporting.
• Numerous improvements to the video editor: Smarter naming of videos, improved rendering quality, better FX during replays
• Fix to bowling while using certain sensitive mice
• Fix for ATI 1900 shadows
• Overall savings to memory
• Graphic improvements to particle systems and mirrors
• Multiplayer character settings are preserved

If you are using a cracked version of the game, make sure you replace the cracked files with the original ones before applying the patch. Both Raz0r1911 and FED0R loader seems to work fine after patch is applied.

GTA IV Savegames

To use other people’s savegames with GTA IV, you need to paste the saved game file to the following directory:

On Windows Vista:
C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Savegames

On Windows XP:
My Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Savegames

So far, I have found only one savegame (50% complete) for the game. If you find more, please feel free to drop a comment.

GTA 4 Extras : Trainer, Savegames, Patch, Manual, FAQs, Cheats

TribalMixes is a private torrent tracker which specializes in DJ Mixes. You can download plenty of DJ sets, promo mixes, radio mixes and other live DJ mixes from this tracker. There are a number of different music genres involved including (but not limited to) techno, tribal, progressive, house and trance. Apart from audio torrents, videos of some live performances can also be found. TribalMixes is a pretty large torrent tracker both in terms of user base and number of indexed torrents. 

At the time this post is being written, TribalMixes tracks 9200+ active torrents. It has a strong user base of 23000+ active members. Torrents found on TribalMixes are mostly user uploads (non scene). Apart from individual releases, there are some great DJ mixes collections (packs) online as well.

Like all other torrent trackers, TribalMixes is not perfect. One of the downsides of this tracker (my personal opinion) is its layout. I found the homepage a little bit cluttered but the torrent index was more readable. Anyways this is nothing fatal and you should get used to it after a little while.

TribalMixes is currently open for signups. Check it out – it’s a must have tracker if you are a fan of DJ mixes.

TribalMixes – Download DJ Sets, Live DJ Mixes and other music torrents

As we reported earlier, Windows Live Messenger (WLM) 9.0 final was released yesterday. A-Patch v1.43 for the final build of WLM 9.0 (build 14.0.8050.1202) has been released only a day later. If you didn’t know already, A-Patch allows users to disable advertisements in Windows Live Messenger, enable polygamy (multiple instances of WLM run at the same time), disable nudge delay and unlock many other configuration options not visible by default.

Like the last version of A-Patch (for WLM 2009 Wave 3 beta), new version too has a limited set of options (see screenshot below). This is due to the new protection used in WLM 9 builds. Even so, it’s still a pretty useful utility if you are a WLM user.

4 torrent trackers with mobile applications and games open for signup

How many times have you wanted to kill yourself because you accidentally deleted an essential file? For me, the answer is many times. Recuva is a nice little software that will save your ass in such events. It can restore files that were accidentally deleted, files deleted by viruses and files lost due to system crashes.

Recuva can restore files deleted from some removable media such as memory sticks and flash drives as well. However, there is no guarantee that you will be able to recover each and every deleted file on all occasions using this application. In some cases it will work and in some cases it won’t – you should never think of it as a backup tool. Recuva is developed by the same folks who develop CCleaner. Just like CCleaner, Recuva is free, lightweight and easy to use. Check it out.

Recover deleted files with Recuva 1.21.373

Yet another addition to our music trackers section and good news for rap music lovers – Rapthe.net (RTN) is a private music torrent tracker which specializes in rap music. Apart from audio albums, few music videos and a cool graffiti collection can also be found on this tracker. Rapthe.net is a few months old and has an active user base close to 2700 members. At the time this post is being written, RTN tracks ~320 torrents.

Unlike trackers filled with common scene releases, Rapthe.net has a lot of unique content. Torrents unique to this tracker can be identified using the ‘RTN’ tag on torrent title.

As mentioned in the title of this post, RapThe.net is currently open for signup. They have a use limit of 19k members so there is plenty of room. Check it out – it’s a great tracker to have especially if you are a fan of rap music.

Rap music tracker RapThe.Net (RTN) signups open

Here is yet another updated version of Nero – the popular CD/DVD burning and multimedia suite. Official Nero download page has been updated with version 9.2.6.0 and the release is dated 17/12/2008. Nero 9.2.6.0 Final

Ebooksshares.org is a private torrent tracker specializing in…..you guessed it…E-books or electronic books (Note: This post is not about the public torrent index ebookshare.net). If you have been reading FILEnetworks Blog, chances are that you have already discovered several E-Learning trackers with E-Books related to academic subjects. However Ebooks Shares is not just another E-Learning tracker with only educational stuff. Instead, it’s a tracker that has many E-Books related to a number of subjects ranging from Kids stories to science fiction novels.

I only recently discovered Ebooks Shares and it was just the tracker I was looking for. Although I was a member of many E-Learning trackers, I had to rely on ED2K links and one click hosting sites for general fiction and non educational E-Books. Ebooks Shares has them all in one place :) Currently there are over 11500 members on this tracker and it indexes (and tracks) close to 4500 torrents. Considering the fact that Ebooks Shares is a specialized tracker, these stats are both excellent.

Several hours ago Microsoft released the final build of Windows Live Messenger (WLM) 2009. This final build, which is released after several beta versions, carries the version number 14.0.8050.1202. We have included download links to the web setup as well as to the standalone installer for your convenience.

Windows Live Messenger 2009 Final v14.0.8050.1202 Offline/Standalone installer

As we reported previously in our heads up post, TemplateP2P has opened registrations for new users. If you don’t know what it is, TemplateP2P is a forum that is dedicated to web designing, programming and graphics designing related content. You can find a lot of templates (Template Monster, BoxedArt, Dream, etc), scripts (CMS, web and forum scripts such as PHP-Nuke, Joomla, VBulletin, etc), coding, fonts, tutorials, wallpapers, graphics, E-Books (on a wide range of programming/IT related categories) and lots of other content on TemplateP2P.

Unlike most sites we feature in our private trackers section, templateP2P primarily is not a BitTorrent tracker. It’s a private forum of trusted members sharing download links to content hosted on one click hosting sites such as Rapidshare and Megaupload. These links are verified and are pretty reliable - you can download without worrying. TemplateP2P currently has around 8000 members.

Movies leaking on the internet is pretty common but it’s not everyday a movie leaks before its official U.S. opening date. This is one of those times and a DVD screener of the upcoming movie Seven Pounds (starring Will Smith) has been leaked by scene group ORC (One Release Closer) two days before opening date. ORC’s release is an XViD encoded rip of the DVD Screener which is 1.38GB (2CD) in size. The video quality seems to be excellent for a DVDSCR.

Ben (Will Smith) is an IRS agent who is deeply depressed and guilt-ridden over mistakes from his past. He sets out in his job to help seven strangers. When he meets Emily (Rosario Dawson), a beautiful woman with a heart condition, he falls in love with her, thereby complicating his plans. Woody Harrelson also appears as a blind pianist who befriends Ben.

DVD Screener of ‘Seven Pounds’ leaks before opening date

Recently we reported you about NVIDIA’s v180.84 driver release. Although it has only been a few days since the last release, apparently you can now download the v181.00 BETA drivers for Windows XP 32-bit and Windows Vista 32/64-bit operating systems. The significance of this release is that these drivers support OpenGL 3.0 extensions. 181.00 drivers are dated 12/15/2008 and carry the version number 6.14.11.8100. If you are a Linux user, you can download v180.11.02 drivers which also feature OpenGL 3.0 support.

 

From what I have seen these drivers are compatible with Geforce 6 series cards and above. But to enjoy OpenGL 3.0 features, you need to have a Geforce 8 series or a newer GPU (G80 core or newer). I did not have the time to test these out with any games so far so I cannot really comment about their performance. Note that these are still beta drivers so proceed at your own risk. NVIDIA 181.00 beta drivers with OpenGL 3.0 support - Download

One of Romania’s best BitTorrent trackers, TorrentBits.Ro (not to be confused with TorrentBytes.Net), has just opened registrations for new users. Torrentbits is a general/0Day tracker which tracks many scene and P2P releases. Although this tracker is of Romanian origin, majority of its content comprises of English releases. Torrentbits is one of the larger private BitTorrent trackers out there with more than 60000 registered members and nearly 13000 indexed torrents.

Download speeds on Torrentbits are generally very good and it also seems to have decent pre times. Most of the torrents on this tracker (even older torrents) are well seeded thanks to the large user base. Apart from usual scene and p2p releases there are a lot of cool packs on TorrentBits. This includes some great cartoon packs and music collection torrents, among many others:

Note: ‘RoSub’ tag on torrent title means that the release comes with Romanian subtitles. These are not hardcoded into the video and can be removed at any time.

Ozone-T, 7Track and ElbitZ signups open – 17/12/2008

Evil-Zone is a private torrent tracker which tracks general content such as movies, music, games and TV Shows. This tracker has been online for about 2-3 months and has a user base of just over 100 members (at the time this post is being written). Evil Zone currently tracks ~1000 torrents and around 15-20 new torrents seem to be added daily.

Torrents on this tracker are mostly scene releases. One thing I have noted about Evil Zone is that it has a lot of wrestling related TV torrents.  MMA related TV shows such as UFC can also be downloaded from Evil Zone.

Evil-Zone signups open

Babylon 7.5.2.r3 has been released! Babylon is a popular dictionary and translator utility for Windows. I have been using this app for ages and it’s definitely one of the best dictionary software currently available. Once installed, Babylon will run in the background (this is optional). Whenever you select a word (let it be on a word document, web page or anywhere else) & press the assigned hotkey, Babylon will come up with dictionary meanings for the word. It’s damn useful.

TheScene.Ro is a fairly new music torrent tracker. Like most other trackers specializing in this niche, TheScene.Ro tracks a lot of English music across multiple genres such as Metal, Hip-Hop and Rock. From what I know this tracker has Romanian origins (they sure have a lot of BitTorrent trackers in Romania). There is no reason to worry if you are not Romanian as majority of the content on TheScene.Ro is English(site interface is also in English).

The Scene.Ro – New music torrent tracker on the block

There has been a lot of talk about file sharing in Australia in the recent past with all those ISP filters being implemented and police raiding trackers hosted in the country. Despite fruitless attempts by authorities to shut down the doors of file sharing, there are many Bittorrent trackers which specialize in content from Australia still online. If you were a member of the popular private tracker BitNation (BN), you may already be aware that the site is now offline. But here is some good news that may cheer you up. BakedBits is a new private torrent tracker on the block. Although it’s started out by different owners, the site seems to have carried forward the old user base of BitNation.org. When Microsoft released Windows Vista, it was claimed un-crackable due to the advanced anti piracy measures it used. Today, two years after the OS’s release, these exists several different types of cracks and hacks which pirates can use to activate illegitimate copies of Vista. From what it looks like, anti piracy measures in Microsoft’s upcoming operating system (titled Windows 7) too is likely to suffer a similar fate.

There have been several pre release builds of Windows 7 so far and almost all of them have been leaked to Bittorrent. Additionally, there are several different cracks and hacks around that claim to permanently activate these builds of the Operating System. WGA Patcher Cyclone 4.0 and Windows 7 Activator by STR!D3R seem to two of the more popular ones. These activators are allegedly capable of activating Windows 7 pre release builds 6801, 6956, 6969, etc permanently. Some claim to remove the watermark as well.

Note that current builds of Windows 7 may not feature all anti piracy measures MS has in mind for the OS. But in the upcoming builds, advanced features such as genuine validation and god knows what can be expected. One thing is for certain - the everlasting battle between crackers and Microsoft will surely take some interesting turns.

Best MMA Torrents – Mixed Martial Arts tracker

If you’ve been downloading scene released movies, games, software, etc from the internet you may have noticed that each release is accompanied by a .NFO file. This NFO file holds release information, serial numbers, install notes and group news and is most of the time essential to make the release work. But what if you download something only to find out the .NFO file is missing? What if you accidentally delete the .NFO file? Just use NFOogle to search for it.

NFOogle is a search engine which searches for release .NFO files. From what I have seen, it crawls several different scene releases indexing sites such as The ISO News and NFOHump to search for NFO files. Search results are pretty informative – each result is associated with date, type of release, release title, group name, size, DVD covers search links (for some releases only) and any nuke information.

Microsoft usually releases security updates for it’s Windows operating systems every month.If you are a Windows user, it’s highly recommended that you download and install these updates as soon as possible to stay safe from latest vulnerabilities. The Torrent Source (TTS) – Signups open

It’s been a while since Grand Theft Auto 4 was released but there still seem to be a lot of people out there searching for tips, tweaks and fixes for various problems with the game. GTA 4 does not seem to be that well optimized for the PC and runs a little slow even on some high end computers. I hope this article will help you better tweak the game and gain at least a few more FPS.

Note: The first part of this article can be found here. If you have problems with the game and still have not read the first part, I suggest you check for solutions and performance tips there first.

Note: Some of the methods below involve editing GTA 4 configuration files. If you enter wrong values or edit the wrong file, it could fcuk up the game completely - you will need to resintall. Proceed at your own risk.

How to unlock configuration files to manually edit GTA 4 settings

Unlike most other games, you can’t edit GTA 4 configuration settings by simply opening them up and editing them using a text editor. The game’s xlive (Windows Live) protection uses some kind of a hash check to detect modified files. If it detects edited files, the game will shut down at startup. Luckily the xlive protection, like all other protections out there, can be hoodwinked. Follow the steps below to unlock your GTA 4 configuration files for manual editing.

1. If you have already tried modifying any GTA 4 configuration files (located in \Grand Theft Auto IV\common\data\ folder), you need to restore the original files. Reinstall if you have to.
2. Download gtaiv.-magic.zip file from this link.(Link obtained from this thread – credit to original creator).
3. Extract this zip file – there will be two files inside – magic.bat file and filelist.pak file.
4. Copy the magic.bat file to your GTA 4 installation directory. i.e- X:\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\ 
5. Run magic.bat. This will create backups of your GTA 4 config files and prepare them for modding. You may need to right click magic.bat and ‘Run as Administrator’ on Windows Vista.
6. Navigate to folder X:\….\Grand Theft Auto IV\pc\data\. Locate the filelist.pak file.
7. Create a backup of filelist.pak. Then replace it with the filelist.pak file you extracted in step 3 above.

You will now be able to edit the configuration files. GTA 4 configuration files are located in the X:\…\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\data\ folder. Just open the .DAT files in this directory with a text editor and you are good to go. If you are looking to tweak graphics settings, edit visualsettings.dat file.

How to turn off/reduce Bloom effect in GTA 4?

If you were not aware, GTA 4 has the bloom effect enabled by default. Worst part is that there is no option to turn it off. If you have low end video hardware, having bloom enabled can cost you some FPS. Although Bloom can never really be turned off in GTA 4, it can be turned down by editing the config files. To turn Bloom down, follow the steps below:

1. You need to prepare your configuration files for modding by following steps 1-7 in ‘How to unlock configuration files to manually edit GTA 4 settings’ topic above. If you have not done this already, do it now.
2. Navigate to X:\…\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\data\ folder. Locate the visualsettings.dat file. Check if the file is marked read only. If it is, remove the read only attribute.
3. Open visualsettings.dat with a text editor. Search for the following lines:
   misc.BloomIntensityClamp.HD  10
   misc.BloomIntensityClamp.SD   10.00
4. Now carefully change these two lines to the ones given below: misc.BloomIntensityClamp.HD  0
   misc.BloomIntensityClamp.SD   0.00
5. Save the file.

I cannot guarantee that you will always gain performance using the above method. On some video cards you will see a 5-10 FPS increase while on other cards there will be no noticeable performance increase at all.

P.S.- If GTA 4 crashes before intro screen when you launch the game after modding a file, something went wrong during the modding process. You may need to resintall.

How to use your own music tracks in GTA 4 vehicle radio

Just like in previous GTA games, you can use your own music tracks in GTA 4.

1. Copy your music tracks to C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\User Music\ folder if using Windows Vista OR to My Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\User Music\ folder if using Windows XP (MP3 format is preferred)
2. Launch the game. Go to Options->Audio
3. Select ‘Complete Scan’. The game will detect all your tracks.
4. Start the game and get into a vehicle. Select Independence FM radio station – this is the station that will play user tracks.

How to hail a cab in GTA 4

Not exactly a technical issue but got several E-mails about this. You have to play an early storyline mission to unlock this ability. Once you do that, find a taxi on the road and press E. Nicko will whistle and sometimes you may get the text “A taxi has been hailed”. If the taxi stops, walk to it and press and hold F. If you simply press F, Nicko will carjack the Taxi. You need to press and hold F for this to work.

Private Tracker Watch (12/12/2008) : Zamunda signups open

A few months ago, we reported about TorrentVault – a decent General/0Day torrent tracker which was open for signup at that time. TorrentVault tracks general content such as movies, music, games and TV Shows. This tracker has a decent user base of ~6000 members and tracks over 4500 active torrents. Torrent Vault signups has been closed for quite a while now and if you were looking forward to get into this tracker, here is your chance.

Unlike most trackers we post in our private trackers section, TorrentVault is not currently open for signup – the site requires an invite to join. Getting invited however is surprisingly easy – all you have to do is to log onto their IRC channel and type a simple command. Follow the instructions below to get invited to Torrent Vault for free.

UPDATE: It appears the channel has now become invite only. It was good while it lasted.

Method 1 - If you have mIRC installed:

The following will work only if you have an application such as mIRC installed on your system. If you do not have such an app installed, try Method 2.

TorrentVault – How to get invited for free

Rise of the Argonauts, the upcoming RPG (Role Playing Game) from Codemasters, has been cracked and leaked to internet 5 days before the game’s official North American release date. Earlier today, scene group PROCYON released an untouched DVD image (CloneDVD) of Rise of the Argonauts and it took only a few more hours for RELOADED to crack the game’s DRM protection. This game, like many other PC titles of 2008, was protected by Sony’s SecuROM v7 DRM system. It however did not include the SecurROM PA component (no online activation). 

The release has already been leaked to BitTorrent trackers and one click hosting sites across the world. Rise of the Argonauts is scheduled it be released on the 16th of December in North America and on 6th of February 2009 in Europe. Currently, there are no reviews of this game available in popular gaming sites including Gamerankings.com. However one thing I noticed is that Rise of the Argonauts has got a 18+ rating.

Heads Up : Private trackers that will open signup in December 2008

Several days ago we reported that nVIDIA released GTA 4 optimized v180.84 ForceWare. If you were an ATI video card user, here is some good news – ATI have released Catalyst 8.12 drivers. These drivers are supposed to increase performance, fix graphics corruption issues and compatibility issues on number of games including Grand Theft Auto 4.

Although Catalyst 8.12 is supposed to optimize GTA 4 performance, release notes mention nothing of it. I could not test these drivers myself as I do not own an ATI graphics card. Anyways it is highly recommended to to update your drivers to the latest version.

Ace Torrents signups open – 11/12/2008

A few hours ago we reported about Prince of Persia (2008) getting leaked to BitTorrent networks. Like Far Cry 2 and Red Alert 3, Prince of Persia too has some bonus content which is supposed to be exclusive to those who preordered the game. So called bonus content in POP basically includes a few sets of extra skins for the prince and Elika. Unlocking some of these skins is very easy, even if you did not pre order the game.

1. Launch Prince of Persia
2. Once on the main menu, go to ‘Extras’ then launch ‘Skin Manager’
3. You will see an option titled ‘Pre Order Code’ to the bottom of the page. Click that, enter the code 525858542 and press ok. 

This code unlocks Sands of Time classic skin for the prince and Farah – Soft skin for Elika.

Jade (Beyond Good and Evil) skin for Elika can also be unlocked once you beat the game.

In the console version of POP, Altair (Assasin’s Creed) skin for the prince and a few others can also be unlocked. However I have not yet managed to find a way to unlock these skins on the PC version of POP. If you figure out a way to do this , feel free to share it with us via a comment.

How to unlock Prince of Persia 2008 (PC) bonus content (extra skins)

BitHQ is a private torrent tracker which tracks full DVD movies and TV Shows. In terms of content, BitHQ is similar to trackers such as The DVD Club (TDC), Asian DVD Club and DVDQuorum. You can download lots of untouched DVD5 and DVD9 discs (with original menus and other bonus features) of English movies and TV shows from BitHQ. At the time this post is being written, BitHQ tracks over 6600 torrents and has a user base close to 8000.

As mentioned earlier this tracker does not track movie or TV show rips like most other trackers. Instead, it tracks the original DVDR which comes complete with menus, bonus content and other features. There are both scene and p2p releases on BitHQ. BitHQ – Full DVD movie and TV show torrent tracker signups open

Back in early 2008, there were almost no good games released for the PC. Then a lot of great titles including Fallout 3, Dead Space, Tomb Raider: Underworld and Call of Duty World at War got released all at once . The influx of good titles for the PC has not stopped and the latest popular game to be released is Prince of Persia (2008). Newest installment to the POP franchise has many new features and game play enhancements over the previous titles. Unlike most other PC titles to be released in 2008, POP does not have any kind of DRM protection built into it.

To be honest I was taken by surprise when I first heard the news about POP 2008 being DRM free. It was too good to be true specially considering Ubisoft’s history with DRM systems – they were a company that relied on controversial Starforce protection heavily back in 2005/2006. Anyway the news is true and there is no DRM in POP(2008). This time around, pirates will not be able to use the ‘I-hate-DRM-so-I-cracked-it’ excuse.

The game has already been leaked by scene group SKIDROW right on it’s official North American release date. There is no crack associated with this release – remember, a crack is not required as the game uses no protection. The release consists of a Full DVD image of POP 2008 (7.2GB in size) which can be used to perform a complete installation of the game. SKIDROW’s release has already made its way from scene topsites to torrent trackers, one click hosting sites and other FTP sites across the world.

Prince of Persia (2008) leaks to BitTorrent, No DRM present

Here is some great news for music fans. LzTr, a private torrent tracker specializing in OST (Original soundtracks) releases, has just opened its doors to the public.  You can find a large collection (over 1100 albums) of original soundtracks of movies, games and TV shows on this tracker. Soundtracks found on LzTr range from new releases such as The Dark Knight (2008) to older, classic OSTs such as Chinatown (1974). Majority of the music on this tracker are encoded using lossless codecs such as FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) and are of excellent quality.

In our last mention of LzTr back in November, the site had a user base of 1500 members and tracked 1000 torrents. Now, only a month later, LzTr’s user base has grown close to 2000 and it now tracks over 1500 active torrents. These statistics are impressive - especially for a rather young private torrent tracker which has been closed for new signups for the most part of the month. As you may already know, LzTr is based on the Gazelle codebase. Like all gazelle trackers, it features an informative, fast and an easy to use layout.

When we posted our previous update about LzTr, it was only open for 1 day and some readers missed out due to the short open signup window. This time however the site will stay open throughout the month of December. Following is quoted from a new post on LzTr homepage:

Product Key Explorer 1.9.6 – Find serial numbers and product keys of installed software

Xtreme-G drivers are modded and tweaked versions of official nVIDIA and ATI display drivers aimed at harnessing optimal gaming performance from your GPU. This post is about the Xtreme-G 180.84 drivers which are based on nVIDIA ForceWare v180.84 released several days ago. I tested these with my Grand Theft Auto 4 installation and observed an 1-3 FPS increase over the official v180.84 drivers. Plus the overall quality of graphics looked better (sharper edges, etc) with the modded drivers.

Xtreme-G 180.84 drivers work with almost all Geforce 6,7,8,9 series and GTX 260/280 graphics hardware. Although most people will get a performance boost and better graphics quality with these drivers, keep in mind that Xtreme-G is not officially supported by nVIDIA.

Download Xtreme-G 180.84 drivers – More FPS, better graphics quality

Bitturk is a private torrent tracker which tracks general content (Movies, Games, Music, TV Shows, Appz etc) and zero day releases. It’s not a scene releases only tracker - both scene and p2p releases are indexed. At the time this post is written, Bitturk tracks ~6100 torrents. Exact number of users on this tracker is unknown. As you may have guessed from its name. Bitturk is a torrent tracker of Turkish origin. It however does track a lot of English releases – this includes BRRip and BDRips (Two new XViD encoded movie release formats – ripped from Blu Ray discs) of popular English movies.

If you are unaware of BRRip and BDRip release formats, I suggest you read this FSF article first. Bitturk indexes releases from major BRRip and BDRip release groups such as D-ZON3, ALiS, PRoDJi, and FLAWL3SS (all P2P groups).   

 
Use keywords BRRip OR BDRip to search for Blu Ray rips

Torrent description pages at Bitturk are very informative. For example, description page of a movie torrent lists everything from the release NFO to screen captures. This is a very useful feature especially for non Turkish users. Some of the releases on Bitturk have Turkish audio - make sure you check the ‘Audio language’ of a release before you download.

Although Bitturk does have a lot of movies, it must be said that it is not a dedicated movie tracker. It’s a general tracker which index other releases such as games and music as well. Signups are currently open and interested readers may join for free.

BiTTuRK – Torrent tracker with BRRips, BDRips and other general content

If you are a frequent reader of FILEnetworks Blog, you should be familiar with the site Rarbg.com. We’ve posted about this tracker several times in the past and it was even included in our latest private tracker watch update. For those of you who don’t know, RARBG is a huge private torrent tracker with over 40000 indexed torrents and over 100000 registered members. A short while ago, we received an interesting E-mail from the RARBG staff. Quoted below is a part of that E-mail:

We(rarbg.com) have just received a take down notice which we have to comply with within 48 hours. However we are going to move our servers to sweden as fast as we can(1-2 days). The requestor for takedown is brein ( http://www.anti-piracy.nl/english/english.asp).

If you’ve been keeping up with file sharing news in the recent past, the name BREIN [Wikipedia Article] should be familiar enough. They’re a major anti piracy group that has been waging a war against BitTorrent trackers hosted in the Netherlands for the last few years. Although BREIN sent takedown notices to many public and private BitTorrent trackers, most sites simply moved out of the Netherlands and evaded any legal action.

Demonoid, SCC and ArenaBG are just a few examples of popular trackers that are still online despite being targeted by BREIN (SCC was only down for about 9 hours). With RARBG’s plan to move to Sweden, this looks very much like yet another failed attempt to shut the doors of file sharing. Sweden is the home of ‘The Pirate Bay’ crew and as far as we know BitTorrent sites are not illegal according to Swedish law. If you experience any slowdowns or downtime with RARBG.com in the coming days, it will most likely be due to the server move. There is no reason to worry as RARBG sure as hell are not planning to be ‘taken down’.

P.S. – RARBG signups are currently open. If you want to show your support, you can probably start by signing up :D No mandatory ratio requirements!

UPDATE (11/12/2008): We have been informed bu RARBG Staff that the site has now completed the server move. Happy torrenting and long live RARBG.

RARBG receives takedown notice from BREIN, Site moves to Sweden

If you frequently visit online forums, you are bound to have witnessed fellow members (usually new and inexperienced members) posting threads and replies asking about stuff that’s easily discoverable by a simple Google search (i.e- Dude wtf is a torrent?). Usually, responses to these types of threads go in the lines of “Google it you fuc*ing noob ^@#&*”. ‘Let me Google That For You’ (LMGTFY) is a site that will help you give a more pleasant, sarcastic but a pretty useful response to useless and obvious questions.  

The concept behind LMGTFY is somewhat similar to http://justfuckinggoogleit.com/. It however is a far more useful method and is not a rude one at that. Here is how it works:

1. You visit http://letmegooglethatforyou.com/

2. Input the search query you want the Google search to be created for. In this instance let’s assume it’s ‘FILEnetworks Blog’

3. Then press the ‘Google Search’ button. A link will be generated which will have a similar format as the ones below:
