After an extended invite only period spanning across many months, Pianosheets (PS) have opened registrations to the public. PS is a very unique private tracker that indexes content not usually found on your average BitTorrent tracker. It tracks piano sheet music, tutorials, electronic books & books with audio plus other educational material that will probably be useful for all students of music. The site has been online for several years (see our previous post about PS made way back in 2008) and has a loyal user base making it one of the more active communities in the BitTorrent scene. It recently underwent a massive upgrade and is now powered by What.CD’s Gazelle codebase. If you are a musician or if you are a student currently learning/willing to learn music, chances are that you’ll find PianoSheets a pretty damn useful online resource.

Last time we featured this tracker it only had 1500 active torrents. This amount has now risen above 6700. User base has also been strengthened and there are now over 4500+ active members registered on PS. For a niche private tracker that has been invite only during most of its lifetime, these statics are pretty good.

Like in most private trackers focusing on a niche category, content is king on PianoSheets. This tracker has some unique torrents you might not find elsewhere – piano sheet music as well as various books, educational material on a number of other musical instruments such as drums, guitar, harmonica, keyboards, organ, woodwind, etc are available for download. Magazines, lyrics, full scores, theory books, etc may also be found. A screenshot capturing part of PianoSheet’s torrent index and some of its torrent tags can be seen below:

The ‘Collections’ section on PianoSheets makes it easier to discover related torrents. It’s a powerful usability feature that creates virtual torrent packs – something similar to ‘Collages’ found on most Gazelle based sites. This section is easily accessible from the top toolbar.

Signups for PianoSheets are currently open. This is the first open signup after several months so don’t hesitate to make full use of it. As said above musicians and music students should find this tracker useful.

If you are interested in music editing/music authoring, here is a private BitTorrent tracker that you might find useful. ReFuX.us initially began as a new audio production tracker based on Gazelle, which specialized in audio applications, music authoring tools and music editing software. It still tracks somewhat similar content to trackers such as Audiotracer, AZT and AudioNews but expect this to change soon. Site rules have been updated recently and now any type of Windows and Mac applications (not just audio related appz) are now allowed on ReFux.us.

This tracker is about 1 month old (as of 29/6/09) and during this time it’s attracted close to 850 members. Close to 300 torrents have been uploaded as well. Download speeds seem to be generally good and if the notice on homepage is correct some of the torrents are seeded using a seedbox.

As for the content on ReFuX currently the tracker is full of audio related appz. However according to new site rules all types of applications are allowed: “we accept all types of applications for windows or mac as uploads, no movies and no music!". Refer to screenshot below to get a better idea about the content available on this tracker:

At the time this post is being written, ReFuX is open to the public. However the current poll on the site hints about the site going invite only pretty soon (poll question is Should we go invite only at 1000 users? to which 80% of the responses have voted ‘Yes’) so if you are interested in joining this tracker, do it now. Today we feature another private torrent tracker which is heavily underrated but has excellent, unique content. In our last mention of MakeGreatMusic (MGM), we categorized it as a ‘music' torrent tracker’. This is only partly true because MGM tracks stuff that most other normal music trackers doesn't have – stuff that’ll help you ‘create’ music. It is also one of the best BitTorrent trackers on the planet for both fiction and non fiction audiobook torrents. MakeGreatMusic crew recently launched MGM V2 with lots of new features and a completely new site layout. For those looking to get in, public registrations are currently open as well.

Even though you might have never heard of it, MGM is not necessarily a small private tracker. As of 6/6/2009 the site has over 4200 active members and tracks close to 2000 torrents. The number of indexed torrents is actually a lot more than 2000 (around 4500). A small issue that arose during the transition to MGM v2 has caused some of the torrents to go ‘dead’. However even the ‘lost’ torrents are seemingly being added to the to the tracker – to see them all select ‘including dead’ option in the search filter.

As for the content on MGM, this tracker is heaven for audiobook fans. There are over 1500 audiobook torrents (both fiction and non fiction – this number could go as high as 3000 once lost torrents are all added back to the tracker) currently indexed on MGM. In addition, there are a lot of material that’ll help you create music - music instruction books, guitar/bass tabs, sheet music, music documentaries, lick libraries and other similar torrents are plentiful on this tracker. This site’s layout has gone through significant enhancements with the launch of MGM v2. It now features a sleek new top toolbar, a fully customizable start page and of course a new stylesheet.

As we mentioned earlier MGM is currently open to the public - user limit of the site has seemingly increased from 5k to 10k with the launch of MGM v2. This is good news for those who were waiting to get into this tracker including a number of people who left invite requests in our previous thread :p.

Here is another private torrent tracker that is currently open for signup. Audiotracer is a private torrent tracker specializing in audio utilities, music authoring applications, tutorial ebooks, sound effects and other music related extras. Apart from these audio utilities, Audiotracer tracks some music albums (lossless FLAC format) as well as MIDI music tracks. The site’s main theme however is audio appz for Windows and Mac platforms.

Although you may not have heard about this tracker before, Audiotracker has a respectable user base of 5200+ members. It also tracks 2800+ active torrents (stats as of 2/1/2009). To get a better idea on the content Audiotracker has to offer, refer to the screenshot below as well as to the categories section to the end of this article.

Audiotracer is known to open signups from time to time. This is one such occasion when it’s open for public registrations. If you are interested in music, music authoring or any related field, don’t forget to check this tracker out.

AudioZoneTorrents (AZT) is a private torrent tracker that is similar to Pro Audio Torrents and Audionews.ru in terms of the content it tracks. Rather than tracking actual music, AZT tracks Audio apps, Sound Effects, Software tutorials and all the ‘extras’ related to music and music editing (See categories below for more information). Mac users should also check this out as AZT do have a significant amount of torrents for Mac platforms such as Audio appz and plugins.

AZT currently tracks over 3500 torrents and has a decent user base. The site is currently open for signup and interested readers may join for free.

Yesterday we posted about Pro Audio Torrents which is a parivate tracker specializing in audio apps and related tutorials. Today, another well known tracker in the same niche just opened signups. Audionews is a Russia based torrent tracker specializing in Audio Apps, Sample Libraries, Tutorials, Sheet Music and other stuff related to digital music.  Although the tracker is based in Russia, its content is English. Audionews is a forum based tracker and has over 90000 members at time of this post.

Both Audionews and its sister site Gfxnews are currently open for signups. They are usually closed for new users and only opens up once every two months or so. If you are into editing, authoring digital music or even DJying , this tracker is a must have.
