We are probably a little late on this one but ComicBT is still open for signup. As you may have guessed from the name, CBT is a godsend for comics fans. This specialized comics torrent tracker started out its operations silently back in May 2010 and within a short span of time managed to become one of the largest dedicated comic book trackers online. ComicBT now features over 9000 torrents of high quality downloadable comic books (old & new, including scanned versions), comics related games, movies, OST, audiobooks, e-books and more. The site sports a brand new, polished looking skin and is home to an active community of comic book fans, collectors and enthusiasts. If you are itching to get inside, signups are currently open for a limited amount of time.

ComicBT Logo

Its been just over a year since CBT started its operations and the site has improved at a great pace during the last couple of months. It’s torrent index has more than tripled (since we last covered the site) and now lists over 9000 active torrents up from 2500 back in October 2010. Registered users count has also increased to 2400, despite CBT being a closed community which is almost always invite only.

As for the type of content CBT tracks, it’s pretty much straightforward. You can find both new and old issues of almost all major comic book series on this tracker (this includes individual issues and complete series packs). These usually come in CBR, CBZ or PDF file formats - they are all viewable on the PC and probably even on portable devices such as iPad, provided that you have the required software (for a list of software you can use to view Comic Book Archive files on the PC, look here). In addition to comic books, CBT indexes movies, animation, official soundtracks, audiobooks, e-books and TV series based on comic book characters as well.

Aside from the customized theme that resembles the look and feel of a comic book, ComicBT has a bonus system in place and comes with all other standard features TBDEV 2009 codebase has to offer. The site also features some useful icons which help you identify comics packs, complete series, file format, etc  Note that there are wait times for this tracker. instantly in the main index.

As mentioned in the title of this post, CBT is currently open for signup. The official notice on site reads:

It’s awesome news if you are a fan of comic books. ComicBT, a specialized private tracker for downloadable comics, has opened public registrations for three days only. ComicBT is one of those trackers that hasn’t received much publicity or hype from numerous BitTorrent forums and blogs out there. The site started out its operations silently back in last May and within a short span of time it’s become one of the largest dedicated comic book trackers online today. ComicBT now features over 2500 torrents of high quality downloadable comic books (old & new, including scanned versions), a brand new, polished looking skin as well as a small but active community of comic book readers, collectors and enthusiasts. If you are a comics lover you might want to check this site out (and this includes everyone who left invite requests in our last CBT review) – signups will only remain open this weekend, and will close by early Monday (25th).

ComicBT Logo

From it’s humble beginnings, CBT has managed to improve its operations in almost all aspects during the last couple of months. The site now features a shiny new skin, category icons and a logo which gives it a highly polished look and feel. But it isn’t just the looks that have improved – CBT uploaders have been adding a ton of new content too. As of 23/10/2010, ComicBT tracked over 2850 torrents (up from 42 when we last featured this tracker), making it probably the largest specialized comics tracker currently online.

As for the type of content CBT tracks, it’s pretty much straightforward. You can find both new and old issues of almost all major comic book series on this tracker. These usually come in CBR, CBZ or PDF file formats - they are all viewable on the PC and probably even on portable devices such as iPad, provided that you have the required software (for a list of software you can use to view Comic Book Archive files on the PC, look here). In addition to comic books, CBT indexes movies, animation and TV series based on comic book characters as well. A screenshot showing part of its torrent index can be seen below:

We have lots of good news lined up in the BitTorrent front and here’s the first of those stories. As we have previously highlighted, the BT community has a serious lack of specialized trackers when it comes to comic books. Leading comics trackers such as ZCultFM, CTT, AnimaTooniC, etc have shut down and comics fans nowadays don’t have many options apart from H33T, Demonoid, Bibliotik & ComicPirates (Of course, there are plenty of DDL forums for this purpose but we’re talking about BitTorrent sites here). Anyways the good news is that we’ve seen the birth of a brand new comics tracker; ComicBT. For those interested, this site is currently open for registrations and new signups are now being accepted.

CBT Comic Book Tracker

ComicBT is a very young site in the BitTorrent scene. There aren’t many folks who even know of its existence yet. This is not because CBT is a super secret, l33t tracker but because it’s not a crazily hyped up site (and it has received zero publicity so far). CBT currently has only 30 registered users and 42 indexed torrents but we believe small, niche trackers such as this should be promoted despite their size or popularity - there is great potential for growth here.

First thing you’ll notice after logging into CBT will be the site’s theme. The default theme which has a lot of green color has a very comic-book like feel to it (the site still seems to be in final stages of development so there may be bugs present). They have an impressive list of categories including categories sorted by major comic book publishers and if they can fill out those ‘Packs’ sections it would add real value to this site.

CBT

ComicBT has a bonus system in place and comes with all other standard features TBDEV 2009 source has to offer. Note that there are wait times for this tracker. However this should not affect you maintaining a good ratio as all torrents on site are free leech till 27th of May.

Signups for ComicBT are currently open. While it’s too early to predict the future of this tracker, signup may be worth it if you are a serious comic book fan.

Special thanks to Squills (ComicBT SysOP) who invited us in and let us know about this tracker.

Here’s one for the comic lovers amongst our readership. The BitTorrent scene has always been populated with only a handful specialized comic torrent trackers. The situation has become even worse with the recent shutdown of veteran sites such as ZCultFM. However, there are still a few decent places left for comics lovers to download their daily dose of entertainment; ComicPirates is one of them. Comic Pirates is a specialized comics tracker that has hundreds of comics books in scanned/electronic form, waiting to be downloaded. Note that CP is a public tracker – although they operate a BitTorrent tracker of their own, there are no mandatory registration requirements or ratio rules for torrent downloads.

ComicPirates

Although some of you might never have heard of it, ComicPirates has been around for quite some time. It’s trackers were even used by ZCultFM to track Marvel/DCP content when the site received legal threats from these two companies. As mentioned earlier, CP is not essentially a private tracker - they do have their own BitTorrent tracker but anyone is free to download torrents tracked by it, even without registering. Right now there are over 675 torrents in CP’s torrent index. Most of the torrents have plenty of seeders and relatively good download speeds for a tracker that isn’t governed by ratio rules.

Comic Pirates Torrents

There is quite a lot of comics indexed here, ranging from old issues to new, recently published works. In addition to individual issues, CP tracks those 0Day weekly comic packs which seem to be extremely popular among comics fans.

However, ComicPirates is not a perfect site – there are several issues that are noticeable. First of all this tracker doesn’t have the best layout. Current interface is a huge improvement over the previous layout but it still looks dated and less organized. Additionally, Registration/Login system is a nightmare. Registration doesn’t seem to work (always gives some error) and there is no login link mentioned on homepage. Thankfully, you do not need to register in order to download torrents.

If you are interested in comic books in electronic format, check this site out.

Back in last April, we gave away 75 free invites to AnimaTooniC (ATC), a private torrent tracker specializing in anime, manga, cartoons and comics. Although it’s been almost four months since that giveaway was conducted, we still get ATC invite requests in our E-mail inbox. Well here is some great news for folks who longed to get into this tracker; AnimaTooniC is now open for public registrations (old news for those who follow us via Twitter). Open signup will no doubt attract lots of new members and bring some much needed activity into the tracker.

Animatoonic logo

Even though it’s been invite only (with member recruitment mainly via IRC), ATC had managed to attract over 1300 members in the last three-four months. Over 1200 torrents have also been uploaded to the tracker during this time – pretty good statistics for a niche torrent tracker. However the site definitely needed more users as some of the torrents had low seeder/leecher activity leading to relatively slow download speeds.

It’s not only users and torrents ATC had been adding during the last four months. They’ve added several major new features to the site such as the Karma bonus points system, ‘Shows’ section, ‘Collages’ section and more. AnimaTooniC has gone through  a redesign as well (see how it looked in the past) and now comes with three working stylesheets to choose from.

ATC’s main content categories have not changed over the past few months. It’s still a tracker specializing in Comics, Anime, Manga and Cartoons. There are some pretty unique releases on this tracker including some of ATC internal encodes. An updated screenshot of AnimatooniC’s torrent index (well a small part of it) is posted below:

Animatoonic screen

Since registrations are now open, you no longer have to bother with IRC invite requests. A notice posted on the site reads:

Open signups

Hello everyone, in order to be able to grow we have now decided to have open signups for everyone who wants to join. These will be open for an unspecified amount of time until we haved reached a certain number of registred users. So go on and tell all your friends about ATC!

Ever since I heard about Bibliotik about 3-4 months ago, I’ve been visiting the site at least once a week to see if it had been launched. Initially I was even able to create an account there as registrations were open long before official launch. Then the beta was closed to the public and no visible improvements could be seen for the next few months. I even wondered if the project had been abandoned - how very wrong I was! Bibliotik has finally gone live after a long beta testing phase and it’s been well worth the wait. The end result is a one of a kind BitTorrent tracker that combines Magazines, textbooks, ebooks, comics, audiobooks, journals and even scholarly articles.

bibliotik logo

It’s only been a week since Bibliotik has officially gone online and there is already an impressive amount of 250 active torrents indexed. More torrents are being added every day. From what it looks like, the site runs on a heavily modified Gazelle source. Whatever it is, the interface and layout just works – it navigates faster, presents a lot of detailed information on the indexed torrents and integrates additional features such as Collections (something similar to packs – it groups related torrents together), Requests, Authors, Artists and Publishers. Oh and note that this is a project by the same crew behind the popular classic movies tracker Cinematik – they sure do know how to run a BitTorrent site.

Once Bibliotik grows into a decent size, the need for several trackers for comics, educational content, audiobooks and text books will be eliminated. Also, the BitTorrent scene has been needing a magazines tracker for so long – Bibliotik somewhat fills this gap too. To get a better idea on the content on this site, see the screenshot below (also note the amazing detail of indexed torrents):

bibliotik screenshot

And now the burning question - how does one get into this tracker? It’s currently closed for public registrations but getting a Bibliotik account is not that hard. Currently there are 3 different ways to do this:

  1. Via the recruitment thread on Cinematik – Over the course of the last few months FILEnetworks Blog has given away over 525 invites to Cinematik tracker in our invitation giveaways section. If you have an account at Cinematik, read this thread and send a PM to the specified user with your email address saying you want a Bibliotik invite!
  2. Via the IRC invites channel – You should be familiar with IRC invite channels by now and the good news is that Bibliotik has one. The channel name is #bibliotik-invites on IRC server irc.brokensphere.net.
    Direct Link: irc://irc.brokensphere.net/bibliotik-invites
If you are an IRC noob, read this article.
  3. Via the recruitment thread on What.CD – The popular music tracker What.CD hosts a recruitment thread to Bibliotik in their popular Invites section in the forums.

Whatever you do, make sure you specify your E-mail correctly (“IF WE DONT GET AN EMAIL ADDRESS we WILL IGNORE YOU! (Same goes for you suckers who spell Bibliotik wrong.”) ). Good Luck!

AnimaTooniC (ATC) is a brand new private torrent tracker for anime, cartoons and comics. It’s only been ~2 weeks since their official launch and so far the site’s performance has been nothing short of impressive. Note that ATC runs on the lightning fast Gazelle codebase pioneered by What.cd crew. This is probably the first and only Gazelle tracker currently online that caters for  Anime/Cartoons/Comics niches. Public signups for AnimaTooniC are closed but that doesn’t mean interested readers cannot get in. We give away 75 free invites for this tracker plus an unlimited number of invites can be obtained from ATC IRC channel.

animatoonic

Ever since their launch, both the user base and torrent index of AnimaToonic has been growing at a rapid pace. As of 29/4/2009 ATC tracks 900+ torrents and has an active user base of over 600 members – pretty impressive stats for a two week old tracker that does not even have public signups.

As mentioned above ATC is a private tracker specializing in cartoons, comics and anime (no hentai or porn allowed). There are some pretty rare torrents online along with some great packs. The screenshot below captures some of the popular torrents on ATC:

Animatoonic screenshot

To get a better idea of the site’s content, refer to the categories section towards the end of this article. Oh and did we mention that the entire site is currently on free leech? All new members start with 2GB upload credit as well as 2 invites.

How to get a free invite to ATC

There are two ways you can obtain a free invite to ATC. The recommended method is via their official invites channel. Here is a step by step guide on how to do this:

  1. Take a speedtest from http://www.speedtest.net and have the direct link ready.
  2. Make a screenshot of your ratio on any other site and upload it to a image hosting services such as tinypic.
  3. Connect to the ATC invites IRC channel.
    Server:irc.p2p-network.net
    Channel: #animatoonic-invites
    Direct Link: irc://irc.p2p-network.net/animatoonic-invites
If you are an IRC noob, we suggest you read this article.
  4. Wait patiently and see if somebody would be kind enough to invite you. Do not PM the channel OPs and piss them off. You will be voiced when they are ready for you.

In addition, Animatoonic admins have been kind enough to give us 75 free invites to give away to FILEnetworks Blog readers. To obtain one follow the steps below:

  1. Create a new email message with the subject Animatoonic. In the body of the message clearly specify the E-mail address you want the invite sent to. Do not use hotmail as there are known issues with the service – invites will not be sent to Hotmail addresses (Gmail works fine).
  2. Send the email to filenetworks[at]gmail[dot]com
  3. Drawback of this method is that it may take us some time to manually send you the E-mail (maybe even 2-3 days). Plus the number of invites we have is limited to 75 while there is an unlimited supply available on IRC.

Please use only one of the methods specified above to request your free ATC invite (either the IRC method or E-mail but not both). Creating multiple accounts will get you banned from the tracker. Do not request invites if you have no plans of actually using the site. And as always, read and respects the rules on ATC. Good Luck!

From the responses we get to our comics related posts, we know that a lot of comic fans read this blog. This posts goes to them. Out of the 1000 odd private torrent trackers out there, there are hardly any dedicated comics trackers. Take FILEnetworks Blog for example – we have reviews of over 150 General/0Day trackers but of only one comics tracker. Good news is that a new specialized comics tracker has stepped in to fill this void. It’s simply named Comics Torrent Tracker, or CTT. CTT has not been around for that long but the site certainly looks promising.

CTT Logo

For those concerned with statistics, CTT currently has over 1200 members and tracks over 900 active torrents. Some of the torrents that are indexed use external trackers such as TPB (these are of course all free leech). CTT does have their own BitTorrent tracker (which is private) - there is a good number of indexed torrents tracked using this as well.

Speaking of the content, there are all sorts of comics available for download. This includes both US/English and non English comic books (see categories below for more information). One of the thing I’ve noticed in CTT is that they index a lot of 0day comic packs – a valuable resource for hard core comics fans.

comic torrent tracker screen

There is a bonus system present on CTT – you can exchange bonus points for upload credit. All new users start with 100 bonus points as well as 1GB upload credit.

CTT is currently open for registrations. If you are looking for a site to download electronic version of comics, give this site a go. You might end up liking it.

We’ve posted about many private torrent trackers here on FILEnetworks Blog but this is the first post about a specialized comics torrent tracker. At a glance, Z-Cult FM may not look like a BitTorrent tracker at all. The site’s design implies it to be nothing more than a comics releases and reviews index. However only a few people know that Z-Cult FM indexes and tracks several thousand comic book torrents – a great resource for comic lovers indeed!

z-cult fm tracker comics

Z-Cult FM is quite a large community with over 84000 registered members (the number of active members may be lower). The exact number of torrents tracked by Z-Cult’s BitTorrent trackers is unknown. Most of the comic books that can be downloaded comprise of scanned .jpeg images packed into Comic Book Archive (.CBR, .CBZ, etc) file formats (how to open). Visual quality is usually excellent on these releases.

There was a time when DCP and Marvel comics were removed from this tracker due to legal threats. These releases can now be found on the site once again but they are no longer hosted nor tracked by Z-Cult. Instead, .torrent files for DCP/Marvel comics are stored and tracked by ComicPirates tracker (http://comicpirates.info). Z-Cult merely indexes these releases which are usually posted by the ‘Comic Pirates release bot’.

How to unlock the BitTorrent trackers section and download torrents from Z-Cult FM

Z-Cult FM homepage can be found at http://www.zcultfm.com/. This is merely a index that shows latest comic book releases. There are no torrents here so you can stop looking for torrent links beneath each comic book post. A new visitor to the site will only see a reviews section and a discussion forum for comics releases. But that is not all Z-Cult FM is about:

comics pirates releases

To unlock the BitTorrent trackers section on Z-Cult FM, follow the steps below:

  1. Visit the Z-Cult FM forums located at http://www.zcultfm.com/~comic/
  2. Register for a new account using the ‘register’ option (http://www.zcultfm.com/~comic/profile.php?mode=register)
  3. Verify and login with your newly created account. You will still not be able to view the torrents section – you need to post at least 1 forum post.
  4. Head to the ‘Introduce Yourself’ section. Make a post there to get your post count to 1.
  5. Now go back to the main index. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the ‘Cult Torrent Section’ and ‘Cult Direct Download Links’ forums :)

Latest comic torrent releases can be found under ‘Newest Submissions” category in Cult Torrent Section. RapidShare and other one click hosting links to comics can be found in ‘Cult Direct Download Links’ section. Use the search feature if you are looking for a particular release.
