Cyberlink PowerDVD is easily one of the most advanced media players currently around. It’s been around for ages and has introduced new features and support for new file types and codecs with each new releases. The latest version of PowerDVD as of today (25th December) is  8.0.2217.50. There are several different editions of PowerDVD such as Ultra and Deluxe. The Ultra edition (featured in this post) is the most feature rich of them all with support for Blu-Ray playback, AVCHD, SPDIF Mixing, Dolby Digital 7.1 EX, etc.

Note: If you are using a 3rd party codec pack such as FFDShow or CCCP and want to decode movies and music with PowerDVD’s proprietary codecs, you may want to add powerdvd.exe to FFDShow decoder filter exception list (How to).
