While we wait for new PC titles to be released in 2009, here is an old classic that’ll help you kill time. Dangerous Dave is definitely one of my favorite games of all time. It’s a platform game where you assume control of ‘Dave’. You have to make your way through 10 levels filled with various hazards and creatures as well as diamonds which you can collect to increase your score.

I’ve been playing this game from time to time since the early 1990’s and but haven't managed to beat it yet (which is a little embarrassing). I’ve made it to the 10th level but never got around to finishing the game completely. All in all it’s a fun game to play, even in 2009.

Believe it or not this game is only 95kb in file size.

How to play Dangerous Dave on Windows Vista, XP, Linux and Mac OS X

If you current operating system does not support MS-DOS programs and games, you may receive errors such as “This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose ‘Close’ to terminate the application” as well as other general protection faults. You can easily play Dangerous Dave (or any other DOS based game) on such operating systems with DOSBox. For a complete tutorial on how to download, configure and play games with DOSBox, refer to this article.

P.S.- Has anyone really managed to grab those 4 diamonds above water without losing a life?

No, those diamonds cannot be grabbed with out jet pack and in 2nd level you don't have jet pack. Also you will win the trick when you realize that you can increase your lives after you reach 99999 score and use one of the function when you loose a life and you will get a life back. I think the function key is F11 or F9
