I hope you can still remember Tribes 2 – a First Person Shooter which is probably best known for it’s awesome multiplayer component. When the game was released in early 2001, it became an immediate hit among online gamers. It was all good for nearly 7 years until Vivendi decided to shut down Tribes 2 multiplayer authentication servers for on the 3rd of November 2008. If you are one of the many gamers disappointed by this move, here is some good news  - Tribes 2 has been revived by the TribesNext community.

There is a note about the revival on TribesNext download page:

On November 3rd, 2008 Vivendi shut down the official Tribes 2 listing and authentication servers.

On January 2nd, 2009 we rock.

Full version of Tribes 2 along with the multiplayer patch is now available for download on TribesNext. Once you download and install the game and patch it using the provided patch, you can play online for free. There is no need to provide a CD Key to play online. In other words, even those who did not own Tribes 2 can now play multiplayer for free since there is no requirement to provide a unique CD Key.

Note that this version of Tribes 2 is not perfect. There are some known issues and bugs but it’s very much playable. Don’t forget to check out the official forums; they already have a great community and the support section should help you solve any problems you encounter with the game.
