In the last two months of 2008, a lot of good PC games were released in a quick succession. There has hardly been any notable release after Prince of Persia 2008 which was released on the second week of December. There are however several good looking titles coming out for the PC in January 2009. Here are some previews, videos, protection/DRM details and other info for several notable upcoming PC game releases for this month.

1. Saints Row 2
saints row 2 box
Info: It’s what I’d like to call a GTA clone. Let’s hope it’s better optimized than GTA 4.
Release Date: January 05, 2009
Protection: Steam. Expect steam rips and homemade ISOs of the game to be leaked.
System Requirements: http://www.vgrequirements.info/?p=7737
Gameplay Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meP62UPanio
Previews: Gamespot Preview

2. Mirror’s Edge
Mirror's edge box
Info: I have very high hopes for this title. It’s a FPS that takes place in a rather unique setting.
Release Date: 13 January, 2009
Protection: Not sure but considering this one comes from EA, I’d bet it’s SecuROM. RELOADED, ViTALITY, DarkC0der (non-scene), Raz0r1911 were some of the groups that cracked SecuROM last year.
System Requirements: http://www.vgrequirements.info/?p=7812
GamePlay Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6yhrzvzkRI (Probably on console version)
Previews: GameSpot Preview

3. Lord of the Rings : Conquest
lord of the rings conquest
Info: Another game based on the LOTR universe. IT’s a hack n slash action/adventure game.
Release Date: 13 January, 2009
Protection: Another EA published title. Most likely it’s SecuROM.
System Requirements: http://www.vgrequirements.info/?p=7810
Gameplay Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZVTKqnKHX0
Preview: Gamespot Preview

Note that the above was based on my (the writer’s) personal preference. All release dates are for the North American (NA) version of the games.

Keep reading FILEnetworks Blog as we will be updating if any of these (and other PC games) get leaked or cracked.

I have Saints Row 2 for Xbox and it is a pretty freakin sweet game. If it had as much publicity as GTA IV, it would definitely sell a lot more.
It's GTA IV with a whole bunch of new features like gangs, CUSTOMIZATION, and new activities.

You can actually mod your car in this game. bodykits, rims, spoilers, the whole thing.

    Me,
I really missed that car customization part in GTA 4. Now i cant wait till SR2 is released.

Btw how was the graphics and physics compared to GTA 4?

The graphics in SR2 definitely beat GTA4.
There is a lot more detail in SR2.
The biggest difference I noticed is the car handling. I find it a lot better in SR2.
The physics are around the same, GTA beating SR in some places and SR beating GTA in others.
The one major thing GTA has over SR is the online play, GTA has a bigger community and it is easier to just start a game. SR has a lower user base, so it's a lot harder to get into a 16 player matchup.

I'm not really sure what all they are going to change in the PC version, but it's a good idea to check out the Xbox version.

Oh yea, Me and Deeran are the same person. ;]

Also, one really cool feature in SR is that you can pick up objects and beat people with them.
Like when you first start, there are some wooden barrels that you can pick up and beat people with or throw at people. You can also change your character's voice and taunts.

Saints Row[the first one] glitched a lot, especially while driving, SR2 hasn't glitched for me since I got it[two weeks ago].

Thanks for the info. Yeah SR1's bugs were a big turn off for me. Good to hear they fixed that problem in SR2.

Hopefully the game will be out tomorrow :)

I REALLY can't imagine someone able to enjoy SR2 after playing GTA IV.
Mirror's edge never caught my attention. The idea is pretty new but wasn't enought for me to grab it.

I want LOTR so badly. I used to enjoy LOTR the return of the king game at that time so muuuuch. This one sounds like really fun.

The time is flying for me. The Sims 3 sounded sooo like a distant future. Now it's a little bit more than a month to it.
