TorrenTiT (commonly known as TiT), a gazelle based General/0Day tracker, has opened public registrations after 6 long months. Although many are unaware, TiT has a long history as a private torrent tracker. Torrentit was originally known as 123torrents and was launched in 2004. They had a great run as a private tracker but soon ran into BREIN, the Dutch anti piracy group. In 2005 they lost the 123torrents domain and by mid 2006, the site was entirely shut down due to continuous pressure from BREIN. After a long wait TiT returned in September 2008, this time running on Gazelle codebase pioneered by What.CD.

Torrentit

TiT has opened their doors to the public several times since their return. However the tracker has been a closed community for the most part and it has not had an open registration in at least 5 months. As of 31/7/2009, TiT tracks over 880 active torrents and has a user base of over 3300 members. Hopefully the current open signup brings in more leechers as the site definitely needs more activity.

As mentioned above TorrenTiT is a general/0day tracker. They have the usual content you find on any other general tracker – scene and p2p releases. But that’s not all – TiT has a lot of packs and exclusive releases indexed as well. More than one third of the indexed torrents are packs – there are over 250 of them. These range from wallpaper packs, software packs, siterips, etc. Don’t believe us? Check the screenshot below:

TorrenTit index

Another point worth mentioning is that TiT has a very high percentage of filled requests (77%+). This is a great sign which shows the helpfulness of the community around the BitTorrent tracker.

As mentioned earlier signups are currently open. We do not know for how long they will remain open – get in now if you are interested.

Back in last April, we featured a new private torrent tracker called ScienceHD. Specializing in Sci-Fi and documentary torrents, Sci-HD really was an innovative tracker. During the first three months since launch, the tracker has attracted more than 5000 users. However we all know that some of those 5000 users are folks who just signed up without really intending to use the tracker. And like all trackers do, Sci-HD had surely attracted ‘collectors’ who are frowned upon in the BitTorrent community. If you belong to any one of above mentioned user types, times has come to fear for your Sci-HD account.

ScienceHD

Part of a notification posted on site homepage is quoted below. {ay attention to the text in bold:

In the coming weeks expect to see a vast increase in the number of new torrents available daily, including new and improved SciHD Exclusive's that you won't find anywhere else on the net. We also have several great new contests with some truly original themes and prizes on the horizon for our valued community.
However, in taking pause to examine our future, I am also officially announcing that by August 1st, any member below the class of Ph.D that has zero snatched torrents will have their account disabled, and their IP's banned for life. Our community has worked diligently over the last 3 months to bring thousands of torrents packed with quality content to the site. Any member who has thus far not found anything interesting here, simply doesn't need to be here. After the house cleaning, we will also be lowering our max users, which has been the plan from the beginning: To have a small, tight knit community of users emphatically interested in Science and of course our guilty indulgence of Science Fiction
Additionally, though it's not a hard and fast rule for us to ban users with inactive invitees, anyone with grievous numbers will certainly have their accounts reviewed by staff. I highly suggest encouraging your invitees to become active if they desire to keep their accounts.

So there you go, a life ban for inactivity. Some might call it a little harsh but IMHO that’s a pretty good way to filter out collectors and inactive members who just take up site space. And it’s unlikely that Sci-HD will have an open signup soon – take care of your account.

Here is the latest version of one of the best Anti-SpyWare products on the market today. You might not have heard about this software before but SuperAntiSpyware (SAS)’s ability to detect and remove malware that slip through popular Anti Virus software such as Norton, McAfee and even NOD32 deserves a lot of credit. As I have mentioned several times through this blog, to get the best out of SAS you need to combine it with an standalone Anti Virus software such as Kaspersky AntiVirus. Let KAV do the real time scanning and if you notice anything odd with your machine, load SAS and run a manual scan. It’ll probably solve your malware issues in a single click.

Superantispyware

Another great reason to use SAS is that it’s free. You don’t have to bother with expiring keys, getting blacklisted or having to search for cracks. Of course there is a pro version of the app but the free edition has everything a home user needs, including even unlimited definition updates.

Developer Description

SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition is 100% Free and will detect and remove thousands of Spyware, Adware, Malware, Trojans, KeyLoggers, Dialers, Hi-Jackers, and Worms. SUPERAntiSpyware features many unique and powerful technologies and removes spyware threats that other applications fail to remove.

There are two things most people don’t know about Torrent Kids (formerly known as humor-me) – 1. It’s the sister site of popular cartoon tracker CartoonChaos, 2. It’s open for public registrations even though the signup page asks for an invite token. As the name suggests, TorrentKids is a private tracker for kid’s stuff. They have children’s TV shows, movies and even audiobooks but surprisingly  no Cartoons. Cartoons are tracked by CartoonChaos, TorrentKids is for everything else kids related. To put it short, if you have a kid or if you love kids shows, you’ll most likely become a fan of this tracker.

Torrent Kids

It’s been a while since TorrentKids entered the BitTorrent scene. Ever since inception it’s slowly been building its user base which has now grown close to 500 members. Over 775 indexed torrents can also be found on the tracker as of 29/7/2009. Download speeds here are average – new users and some more activity would definitely be more healthily.

Torrent Kids, as mentioned above tracks kids torrents - TV shows, movies, audiobooks, e-books, kids games and more are available for the taking. There are some pretty rare stuff too, including VHSRips of relatively old kids movies and entire seasons of Sesame Street.

Torrent Kids Screenshot

As specified at the start of this article, Torrent Kids does not require and invite to join, Just leave the invite token fields blank in the signup form and you should get in just fine. If by the time you read this signup have somehow closed, you could always ask for an invite on the official forums ( you’ll have to provide profile links).

Sh1t has hit the fan again for Microsoft – pirates have managed to crack Windows 7 copy protection mechanism even before the OS’s official release. It’s nothing surprising though – everybody knew this was going to happen and it was just a question of when. Well that nagging question has now been answered. Windows 7 Ultimate RTM build 7600.16385 (which was leaked a few days ago) has been cracked and this time it’s not with a time stopper hack or a trial period re-arm workaround – the new exploit makes use of Microsoft’s OEM activation 2.1 to bypass WGA and pre activate illegitimate copies of Windows 7 even in offline mode.

Windows 7 RTM

They key used for activation seems to have leaked through a Chinese OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) distribution partner. As we Tweeted a few days ago, several OEM product keys were leaked online but these were immediately blocked by Microsoft so online activation was not possible. However it does not matter if the keys are blocked or not with the latest hack – activation bypass happens offline. The leaked DVD image gives pirates access to OEM-SLP (System-Locked Pre-installation) product key along with the OEM certificate for Windows 7 Ultimate via boot.wim file. I wouldn’t go into much detail about how the latest exploit works but it’s something similar to those BIOS emulation cracks that were hugely popular with Windows Vista. The hack seemingly works only with Windows 7 Ultimate. Pirates wouldn’t complain though – it’s the most featured filled Windows 7 edition out there yet.

We wouldn’t directly link to cracks or leaked product keys for obvious reasons but it’s a fact that they are now all over the internet, readily available for download. It’s safe to assume that warez community will keep improving the OEM hack and eventually more easy to use versions of it such as one click activators and pre-cracked editions will surface, taking Windows 7 piracy to the masses. It would now be interesting to see Microsoft’s next move. Maybe they’ll come out with a completely new WGA mechanism that hopefully would not be too intrusive than it already is. Maybe they’ll roll out a hotfix to detect and disable the OEM hack via Windows Update like they did for Windows Vista (with minimal success of course). Anyways right now it’s Pirates 1 and Microsoft 0. The battle continues…

If you like Wrestling and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) other action sports events, you’ll love this site. Full Contact Zone (better known as FCZ) is a private torrent tracker that specialize in sports such as Wrestling, UFC, Boxing, Kickboxing, Rugby and more. A few months ago FCZ was accessible via www.fullcontactzone.net URL. This has now changed – the site somehow lost the old domain name sometime back but it is now accessible without any issues via http://fullcontactzone.tv/. For those interested in joining, FCZ opened public signups on the 3rd week of this month and they remain open to date.

Full Contact Zone

For a specialized action sports tracker, FCZ has pretty good statistics. They currently track close to 1000 active torrents and most of these are well seeded/have good download speeds. A steady number of new torrents are added to the site daily as well. The exact number of registered members is not known.

Speaking of content, FCZ is full of media related to UFC/Wrestling/MMA and other similar sports (they even have Rugby and Nascar torrents) – site lists 18 different sports events in the torrent index. In addition to videos, several Ebooks and instructional which can be pretty useful for beginners are also available on this tracker. Following screenshot captures part of FCZ’s torrent index:

Full Contact Zone Screenshot

Public sign ups for FullContactZone are currently open. In fact, they’ve been open since the 15th of this month. Following notice is posted on site homepage which is about the current open signup window:

Sign-ups are open so if you have any friends who want to join let them know
But remind them to keep a good ratio (below 0.5 gets you into trouble, below 0.35 gets you in serious trouble, below 0.2 gets you a direct flight off the tracker) and keep your downloads seeded. We have updated the rule page to be more clear for everyone - and we may do it again to refine the amount of seeding time required by torrent sizes for example.
Seeding time is a requirement for everyone. So even if you have a good global ratio, when there are only few seeders on a torrent, you MUST seed it for 24 hours - or risk a warning / have your download rights taken.

We do not know when the signups will close. If you are interested, get in while you can.

Stumbled across a relatively new media converter application called VideoSpirit today. Played with it for a few mins and it actually looked like a decent piece of software. VideoSpirit allows conversion between popular multimedia file formats. The app comes free of charge and does not take a lot of system resources.  User interface is simple and even a complete newbie can figure out how to handle the software in a matter of minutes. In addition, there is support for a wide ranging of multimedia formats including MP4, FLV, OGG, SWF, WMV and even RMVB.

VideoSpirit

Some of the major features of the application are listed below:

  • Convert Video Files among VCD / SVCD / DVD / MPEG / AVI / DivX/ASF / WMV/DAT / SWF / FLV / 3GP / RM / MP4 / MOV;
  • Extract audio tracks from video files;
  • Extract images from video files;
  • Smart and neat interface, very easy to use.

Video editing capabilities are supported but are only available in the pro version of the software (featured in this article is the ‘lite’ edition). One issue I had with the app so far is that it refused to start on two occasions (it threw a ‘could not load conversion library’ error). If this happens to you try right clicking the application icon and choosing ‘run as administrator’.

Here is a news update from the hugely popular general/0day torrent tracker TorrentLeech (TL). TL have added two new categories to their torrent index - NonScene/BRRip-x264 and NonScene/BRRip-XviD. BRRips are nothing new to TL – they’ve been around for ages and have been downloaded by members hundreds of times. However the addition of new categories would make their presence somewhat official, more organized and easily searchable. NonScene/BRRip-x264 category currently (as of 27/7/2009) has 38 torrents under it and NonScene/BRRip-XviD indexes 175+ torrents.

TorrentLeech Tracker

Interestingly, a search on TL for keyword ‘BRRip’ returns a list of 850+ torrents. I can’t figure out why all these releases are not moved under the new categories. If I’m not mistaken all BRRip releases are non scene – scene groups have released BDRips but I’m not sure if they have released any BRRips at all. Scene XViD releasing standards 2009 do not mention of HD rips apart from the text quoted below:

HD retail may be used as source only if no DVDRip has already been  released (and vice versa). Such releases must be tagged accordingly (e.g. BDRip, HDDVDRip).

Note that XViD encoded BRRips are not true HD releases. They are ripped from Blu Ray disks - just like DVDRip but using a Blu Ray source. BRRip quality is generally better than DVDRip and file size is usually larger( weighs between 1.4GB – 2.5GB in most cases).

Don’t have TL but still want to download BRRips? Look in BitTurk and LeechTurk trackers – both have a nice collection of such releases and both are currently open for signup.

More private tracker news – this time regarding the popular General/0Day tracker iPlay (not to be mistaken with metal.iplay.ro which is a music tracker). iPlay, which is arguably the most sought after Romanian private tracker, has launched the 4th version of their site. V4 is primarily about the looks. For starters  iPlay was never a bad looking tracker at all – however the new skins introduced in V4 kick ass and makes browsing the site a pleasure. Given below are two screenshots of the tracker running on new Starfall and Tyrian skins for those interested (signups remain closed btw):

Starfall
Image: iPLay running on the new ‘Starfall’ skin

Tyrian

Image: New ‘Tyrian’ skin

A total of four new skins have been introduced with the launch of iPlay v4; Tyrian, Starfall, Helios and Coagulate. Each of these skins completely revamp the user interface with custom category icons, and even the main toolbar. In addition to the looks, iPlay retains those great download speeds, good pre times and the massive torrent index of over 15000 active torrents. IMHO this is a great overall general tracker (keep in mind that seeding here is somewhat difficult) and is a site worth pursuing an invite for.

Please don’t post invite requests here.

Update: It was our fault this offer ended on What.CD. We should not have gone public with the info. We publicly apologize everyone who was affected, specially MusicalMind on What.CD who got spammed by invite requests.

Original Article: BitMeTV is probably the best private TV torrent tracker out there. However with only one public open signup in the last three years, it’s a pretty hard tracker to get into. This article intends to keep you up to date about a few rule changes on BMTV. In addition, we intend to share news of an unlimited BMTV invites offer we came across on What.CD forums. To make things clear this is not an official invite giveaway – it’s done by a What.CD member on What.CD forums. There is no guarantee that you’ll get a BMTV invite this way but it’s definitely worth a shot.

BitMeTv

Here is what MusicalMind posted on What.CD forums:

Hi all, I have unlimited invites to BitMeTV and anyone who wants an account there just Message me your email address and that you haven't had an account before.. (If you've never had an account) If you had an account there before and it's been over a year and it was disabled for any reason besides trading or cheating I will see about getting the account re-enabled and some compromise being met. If it's less than a year, you can still message me and we can see what can be done. If you can see this post, you've already met my requirements, so ... Message away. MusicalMind

We’d rather not directly link to the forum post due to various reasons – if you are a member of What.CD you should be able to find it. Once again note that this is not a FILEnetworks invitation giveaway. We are just passing the news.

And it’s probably a good time to get into BitMeTV too. Just a few days ago they relaxed some inactivity related rules rules. Changes are quoted below:

A new user needing to use their account in 30 days has been bumped up from 30 days to 90 days.

Inactivity (a user needing to log in to their account via a web browser) has been bumped from 60 days to 90 days.

Parking an account has been bumped up from 6 months to 9 months.

Also the inactive disabling only affects the user classes under VIP. Which has always been the case anyway.

As of 27/07/2009, BitMeTV tracks 20500+ active TV torrents (including full TV season packs) and has an active user base of 19700+ members. Good luck on finding an invite through the specified method. Please do not post invite requests here.

If you’ve been a reader of this blog for the past two months it shouldn’t be news to you that SweDVDR got shut down spawning several replacements such as DVDRSource, SceneDVDR, TVSource and CareStreet. This article is about Sparvar, another new full DVD/Blu-Ray tracker that’s making waves in the sea of BitTorrent. Compared to other SweDVDR spinoffs, Sparvar has better content, better download speeds but is relatively hard to get into. Additionally, the tracker is growing at a rapid pace; within just two months since launch, Sparvar tracks as much torrents the TheDVDClub, the veteran DVDR tracker.

Sparvar

At the time this post is being written, Sparvar tracks over 4400 active torrents. Note that the browse.php page (denoted by “Nytt”) will only show you the newest torrents. To browse older torrents you need to click on the “Arkiv” link (which means ‘archive’). Even with a somewhat strict recruitment policy (coupled with closed signups of course), Sparvar has already managed to attract over 2100 members. However tough requirements to get in (ex- 500GB minimum upload in ratio proofs from most trackers) seems to have paid off - The user base here is one of the most active ones I’ve seen on a BitTorrent tracker. It’s not everyday you see torrents with over 100 seeders on a tracker that has less than 2500 users.

Speaking of the content tracked by Sparvar, both movies and TV shows can be found on the site. There are 6 main torrent categories defined; PAL DVDR, Custom DVDR, TV DVDR, TV XviD, Film XviD, Film HD, TV HD. Lots of movies in untouched DVD formats (DVD5/DVD9) and Blu-Ray formats are indexed. Check out the screenshot below:

Sparvar torrents

Another great thing about Sparvar is their staff. They’ve got some pretty cool folks on board who do not behave like immature jerks. Best example is how they kicked a user from the support IRC channel (where idling is not permitted)

****** was kicked by ****** (A friendly kick in the butt. We prefer no idling in the support channel. You are always welcome back if you have questions or need support.)

And I can imagine quite a few trackers where the kick reason could easily have been “Fukc off noob”.

Anyways as mentioned earlier public signup for Sparvar are closed. However if you are interested in joining there is an invite application form online. If it gets approved by tracker staff, you’ll be invited in for free. Note that the app is in Swedish (so is the site interface). It shouldn’t be a problem for English speaking users since Google Translate is always there to help.

Site Name: Sparvar (http://www.sparvar.org)

Invite Application URL: http://www.sparvar.org/invitationform.php

Translated Version of Invite Application: http://bit.ly/JKJ93

How to attach the special code to your profile:

  • This differs depending on the tracker but you can usually add comments or information to be displayed in your public profile via the ‘Profile’ option (on most trackers this is my.php page). If you have cloaked public profile display though tracker options, please make it visible to everyone before sending the invite application.

Special thanks to Clyde and rest of the Sparvar staff for the support given.

The word ‘uncensored’ seems to be attached with whatever service TPB crew launches – one of their recent projects, PasteBay, is no exception. As you might have guessed, PasteBay is a free text hosting service that is similar to Pastebin. Oh and yes, it’s uncensored. Although you can post whatever text you like to this service and share, PasteBay is designed with the focus of helping developers collaborate on debugging code snippets. If that didn’t make any sense, here is how it usually works (quoted from PasteBay FAQ):

PasteBay

  1. submit a code or textfragment to pastebin, getting a url like http://pastebay.com/1234
  2. paste the url into an IRC or IM conversation
  3. someone responds by reading and perhaps submitting a modification of your code
  4. you then view the modification, and collaborate with others
    End Quote.

Hope that cleared things up a little. One important fact that’s worth mentioning is that even if someone modifies your submitted post, the original is never changed. A new post is generated and you can easily compare the differences between original and modified version – a godsend if you are a software developer. However this doesn't mean you have to use the service exactly as described above nor do you have to be a software dev to make use of PasteBay. It hosts text and you can use it for your convenience any way you like (I.E. – you can even share SceneNotices :D )

Pastebay has several other great features such as code snippets highlighting, free subdomains, private pages, ability to password protect your text, post retention up to 1 day/1 month or forever, etc. The help page has more information on how to use these features.

With Pirate Bay poised to become a pay site, the focus is now back on General/0-day torrent trackers. For those of you who are seeking to join a decent general private tracker, here are two more choices TorrentBits and FreeTheScene. TorrentBits is a well established torrent tracker with a huge userbase/torrent index and FreeTheScene is a relatively new tracker that is based on Gazelle codebase. If it’s movies, games, music, software, TV shows or E-Books you are looking for, these two trackers will probably cover most of your usual requirements. As mentioned in the title of the article, both these sites are open for signup at time of this post.

FreeTheScene
FreeTheScene
FreeTheScene (FTS) has come a long way since the last time it was featured on FILEnetworks Blog. The tracker which only had less than 2000 users and around 1200 torrents back in January 2009, today tracks over 2200 torrents and has around 7000 registered members. Pre times and download speeds remain average. If you care about the looks, FTS now has six different working themes to choose from – some of which look pretty cool indeed.
FreeTheScene Packs
FTS signups are currently open. All new members will receive 5GB free upload credit and 2 invites upon signup.
Site Name: FreeTheScene (http://freethescene.net)
Signup URL: http://freethescene.net/register.php

TorrentBits.Ro
TorrentBits Logo
TorrentBits (TBS, not to be mistaken with TorrentBytes – TBy which is also open) is undoubtedly one of Romania’s finest private torrent trackers. With a user base of over 50000 active members and over 21000 torrents (12000 active), TBS is a huge private community. Download speeds are generally very good and pre times are average. A few months ago TorrentBits V4 beta was launched with a revamped user interface but they seem to have reverted to V3 again. Screenshot below shows some of the many torrent packs available on this tracker:
TorrentBits

TBS signup are currently open. However there is no way of knowing how many free slots are available. If you find the signup to have closed, check back from time to time since this tracker opens up at regular intervals.

This time it’s real and confirmed news – no more speculations. The Release To Manufacturing (RTM) build of Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system has leaked online. Untouched ISO images of both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the OS can now be downloaded from various BitTorrent trackers across the world. There had been several different leaked builds of Windows 7 floating around the web for some time - some of these were mislabeled as RTM and some could not be verified as the official RTM build. However this time there is confirmation. How was this possible? With the help of Microsoft itself of course.

Windows 7 Logo RTM Final

It was none other than a Microsoft employee who posted CRC and hash values of all available official RTM DVD ISOs on his blog on Technet. These values precisely match the allegedly leaked DVD images now being tracked by various public and private BitTorrent trackers. It couldn’t get any more real than this – Windows 7 build 7600.16385 is RTM and it has leaked online.

As we mentioned earlier leaked version is an untouched DVD ISO – it’s exactly the same as the one that’ll be released by MS and there are no modifications, cracks or activators embedded with the release. For those who are still unclear what an RTM build (in Microsoft’s terms) is, it’s an advance release given to PC manufacturers to bundle with their future hardware sales. In simpler words Win 7 RTM will have the same code as the final retail of Windows 7 that is supposed to be released to the public later this year.

Note: Please do not post/ask-for torrent or direct download links to any of the leaked images here. This post is for informational purposes only.

Back in last April, we gave away 75 free invites to AnimaTooniC (ATC), a private torrent tracker specializing in anime, manga, cartoons and comics. Although it’s been almost four months since that giveaway was conducted, we still get ATC invite requests in our E-mail inbox. Well here is some great news for folks who longed to get into this tracker; AnimaTooniC is now open for public registrations (old news for those who follow us via Twitter). Open signup will no doubt attract lots of new members and bring some much needed activity into the tracker.

Animatoonic logo

Even though it’s been invite only (with member recruitment mainly via IRC), ATC had managed to attract over 1300 members in the last three-four months. Over 1200 torrents have also been uploaded to the tracker during this time – pretty good statistics for a niche torrent tracker. However the site definitely needed more users as some of the torrents had low seeder/leecher activity leading to relatively slow download speeds.

It’s not only users and torrents ATC had been adding during the last four months. They’ve added several major new features to the site such as the Karma bonus points system, ‘Shows’ section, ‘Collages’ section and more. AnimaTooniC has gone through  a redesign as well (see how it looked in the past) and now comes with three working stylesheets to choose from.

ATC’s main content categories have not changed over the past few months. It’s still a tracker specializing in Comics, Anime, Manga and Cartoons. There are some pretty unique releases on this tracker including some of ATC internal encodes. An updated screenshot of AnimatooniC’s torrent index (well a small part of it) is posted below:

Animatoonic screen

Since registrations are now open, you no longer have to bother with IRC invite requests. A notice posted on the site reads:

Open signups

Hello everyone, in order to be able to grow we have now decided to have open signups for everyone who wants to join. These will be open for an unspecified amount of time until we haved reached a certain number of registred users. So go on and tell all your friends about ATC!

With all the censorship cr@p going on, one might assume that China doesn’t have any BitTorrent trackers at all. This is not true – they have several and today’s article is about one of them. CCFBits is the second Chinese BitTorrent tracker to be featured in FILEnetworks Blog (first one being HDChina). It’s a private torrent tracker specializing in HD movies, TV shows and documentaries. What’s great about this site is that even though it’s based in China, there are plenty of English releases uploaded to the tracker.

With 25000+ users and over 700 active torrents, CCFBits is a pretty large private tracker. Download speeds are generally very good and there are a lot of freeleech torrents around. That being said, CCFBits does not have the best interface around. Primary interface language is Chinese (with English labels for main functions) and the presence of Chinese characters makes the layout somewhat cluttered (at least for those who don’t know jack whack about Chinese). However if it’s the releases you are looking for, CCFBits is a great site to have.

It tracks both Chinese and English content - bulk of the releases are English, released by scene/p2p groups such as ESiR, CtrlHD, EuReKA, CTU, etc (there is in fact an option to search by group name). In addition, CCFBits is home to some huge HD torrent packs – for example there is a movie pack that exceeds 500GB in size.

CCFBits packs
Presence of Chinese characters in torrent name does not mean it’s dubbed in Chinese. All releases shown in the above screenshot have English audio.

CCFBits is currently open for signup. However we don’t know when the doors will be shut – it could be within a few hours or within a few minutes. This is a tracker that frequently opens/closes registration so keep trying if you couldn’t get in the first time.

This has got to be one of the most annoying errors associated with the popular web browser Mozilla FireFox. If FF encounters a problem when an update is being applied, an error message "Software Update Failed. The update could not be installed…” will be displayed every time you try to start the application. I was unfortunate enough to face the issue myself and luckily managed to solve it wihout having to waste a lots of time. If you are encountering the same issue, here are a few things you can try to hopefully get the problem sorted out.

FireFox 3.5 logo

Note: Before you try any of the fixes below please backup your personal settings, bookmarks and saved passwords.

  1. Browse to Start Menu –> Programs –> Mozilla FireFox and right click the FireFox shortcut. Choose ‘run as administrator’ from the menu and execute. If it doesn’t work the first time, try 2-3 times. If FF cannot update due to insufficient user account privileges this should solve it.
  2. Browse to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Mozilla\FireFox\Mozilla FireFox (path is different in Windows XP). Delete the updates directory, updates.xml and active-update.xml files if they are present. Start FireFox. If FF encountered an error during the update process, this should clear the last update and start fresh from the beginning.
  3. If it still doesn’t work, go to Mozilla download page and download the latest version of FireFox. Without uninstalling the existing version, execute the new setup. If the existing version is 3.X/3.5.X, newest version will be installed over the existing installation, clearing any update mishaps.

Good Luck!

Although BitTorrent trackers have grown in popularity, very little is usually known about their creators. Wouldn’t it be cool to know more about folks behind your favorite torrent trackers (as longs as it doesn't harm their security)? Techloid, a new P2P related blog has done something you don’t see everyday. They’ve interviewed Rosario (aka ‘hangman’), the creator of vgmTorrents – a private video game music tracker we recently reviewed. First part of the somewhat lengthy article is quoted below:

“Ahh, Italy. Home to Ferrari, Valentino, the Renaissance, The Mafia, Pizza, Leonardo da Vinci, Enrico Fermi and many beautiful women!
But that's not all. Italy is also home to Rosario, a game developer who lives and works there. Rosario is the creator of vgmTorrents, a private video game music tracker. After discovering his how-to on building a torrent tracker, we exchanged emails and sent him a bunch of questions on vgmTorrents, video game music, The Pirate Bay and the future of torrents and file-sharing”

Big news folks. As we Tweeted earlier today, VIPMusic tracker has opened signup for the first time ever. If you don’t know what it is, VIPMusic is a highly sought after private torrent tracker specializing in scene released MP3 music albums. As you might already have noticed from various invite request threads on BitTorrent forums, this is not a very easy tracker to get into. Anyways this should be great news for English music fans as VIPmusic tracks a huge database of music torrents related to a number of different music genres such as Electronic, House, Indie, Metal, Industrial, Pop, Punk, Hardcore and lots more.

VIPMusic tracker logo

At a glance VIPMusic might look like a small BitTorrent tracker. This is only partially true - It’s user base is small when compared to other similar sites but the torrent index is not (registered user stats on the homepage are incorrect, btw). With over 25500 active torrents VIPMusic has one of the most content rich music libraries on the net.

VIPMusic actually tracks torrents under 40 different genres which means it has something for every music fan. Most of the torrents are scene released material (by groups such as FNT, DV8, APOLLO, BCC, OMA, etc)  in MP3 format. This includes promos/advance releases. In addition to individual albums they have some awesome torrent packs which can be accessed via the ‘Collections’ menu. The following screenshot should give you a better idea on the content available on this tracker:

VIPMusic screenshot

This tracker has a pretty unique interface which I found to be quite user friendly. There are separate browse pages for each music genre and the torrent index itself has a clean look to it. VIPMusic boasts a good set of features such as the ‘Monitor functionality (You can monitor certain Artists/Groups and the tracker will alert you when new releases by them are uploaded), bookmarks, freebies (which are similar to freeleech slots) and requests.

As we mentioned at the start of this article VIPMusic has never hard an open signup before. A notice posted on site homepage explains why the floodgates were opened:

2009-07-22 - ViPMusic open for signup.
We've decided to open registration page for the first time. Unfortunately there are many reasons for that: there aren't enough snatches and very little percent of users seed good 95% of the releases what eventually causes many releases to die quickly, we're having a serious problem covering the servers cost (please take a look at the donation bar); These are the main two reasons.
The signup page is here. Feel free to spread the word around.
Also don't hesitate to discuss the issue in our Forum.
We would also like to mention that donations have been slowing down again since the start of summer. If you have any spare cash laying around please donate, and help this site continue.

Anyways we are not sure till when the signups will remain open. It’s always a wise decision to signup ASAP when you can still get in for free without begging for invites from strangers :)

These days seem to be particularly good ones for fans of untouched DVD movies. More and more private torrent trackers specializing in DVD5/DVD9 movies are being launched and this article features two more such sites; CareStreet and SceneDVDR. CareStreet of course originally debuted as a scene MP3 tracker but they seem to have converted into a movie tracker overnight. SceneDVDR is also new and is only around one month old. Both these sites are based on the recently released source code of SweDVDR and have identical site layouts. Anyways considering what happened to SweDVDR, you can never complain about too many torrent sites these days. The more heads the hydra has, the better it is for file sharers.

SceneDVDR
SceneDVDR
SceneDVDR started out silently back in June and recorded an impressive growth in both user base and torrent index during the past month. The site which only had around 46 torrents and 160 members when we last featured it now boasts a userbase in excess of 2600 registered members and a torrent index with 370+ torrents.
SceneDVDR screen

As you can see from the above screenshot SceneDVDR tracks untouched DVD movies. Most of the DVDs tracked are released for the Nordic region – English speaking users need not worry since most releases do carry an English audio feed (check the spoken audio in torrent description just to make sure).
Site Name: SceneDVDR (http://www.scenedvdr.org)
Signup URL: http://www.scenedvdr.org/signup.php

CareStreet
CareStreet
Didn't’ see this one coming but CareStreet has converted from a scene MP3/Lossless music tracker into an untouched movie tracker all of a sudden (looks like SceneSound who had a head start as a Scene MP3 tracker attracted most of SoftMP3’s user base). Either way  CareStreet’s statistics so far are looking good with 132 movie torrent uploaded in the last few days. They currently have over 630 active members.
CareStreet Screen

Once again most of the DVD releases found on this tracker are for the Swedish/Nordic region. Just like in SceneDVDR, an English audio feed is usually available in the DVDs with optional Swedish/other language subtitles.
Site Name: CareStreet (http://www.carestreet.net)
Signup URL: http://www.carestreet.net/freesignup.php

By the way congratulations to the Swedish Anti Piracy agency. You’ve managed to destroy one tracker (SweDVDR) and at the same time givenbirth to three more new sites. Way to go!

When it comes to desktop torrent search tools, BitChe is perhaps the most popular. TorrentFetcher is a similar utility that allows you to search for torrents without the need for a web browser. It’s a simple windows application that can search for, display information about and even download the .torrent file chose from the list of search results. It supports category based search and search results come complete with seeder/leecher information, file size, date, etc. TorrentFetcher does not display information about it’s sources or where it searches online for torrent files. Most of the torrents I found in the app’s search results were either tracked by TPB tracker or the Demonoid tracker.

TorrentFetcher

Features – Quoted from developer page

  • Search through multiple pages of torrents at once.
  • Automatically move downloaded torrents to a specified output directory (good for bittorrent clients that monitor a specific folder, like uTorrent).
  • Automatically launch downloaded torrents.
  • Know which torrent files you already have in your downloaded folder through automatic highlighting.
  • Results highlighting lets you know if a torrent is well or poorly seeded or if it has negative comments left about it.
  • Automatic detection and removal of "denis stalker" trackers using the MonoTorrent library.
  • Minimize-to-tray option to keep the utility handy at all times.

Download

TorrentFetcher is freeware and is only 420kb in file size. You can download it from the link below

Ever since we started blogging about private torrent trackers, we’ve posted about no less that 175 General/0Day trackers (the total no. of tracker reviews exceed 400). Although some readers blame us for posting too many such sites, we have no plans of stopping anytime soon. Whatever we post, it all comes down to user preference which we’ve found out to be quite varied among readers. Anyways this article is about Megaups.com, a relatively unknown but large general/0day tracker open for public registration. There is a good chance that you’ve never heard about this site before but it’s statistics are somewhat surprising.

Megaups.com

Megaups actually is one of the larger general trackers that are around. It has over 18400 registered members and tracks over 8000 torrents. This tracker definitely is not a ghost town when it comes to seeder/leecher activity. Some of the popular torrents have over 100 seeders each. What’s more, Megaups is not a foreign language tracker – the site is completely in English.

As a General/0Day tracker megaups mostly have torrents you can find elsewhere. Movies, music, games, E-books and even wrestling torrents – it’s all here. Apart from the usual P2P and scene releases, Megaups tracks something called ‘Mega Multi Collections’ – most of the time these are untouched DVDR movies on free leech and double upload. There are of course some exclusive packs indexed as well. Screenshot below depicts part of Megaups torrent index:

Megaups Screenshot

Based on TS Special Edition tracker script, Megaups comes with all the standard features of a private tracker. This includes a bonus system, requests, forum, lottery, radio, casino, integrated speedtest, etc.

For those interested in joining the site, it’s currently open for registration. The catch here is that it doesn’t allow free E-mail addresses –  your ISP provided email should work. And surprisingly, I even found Slopsbox to be working as well. However you need to delete a ‘;’ in the middle of confirmation link you get in the Slopsbox inbox for signup to work properly (otherwise it would throw ‘your account could not be found’ error).

Here is another useful utility for FaceBook addicts. If you upload a lot of photos to FaceBook (like many people do), FaceBook Photos Uploader can save you lots of time. It’s a java based desktop application through which you can upload multiple photos to the social networking service without even the need for a web browser. Not only can it upload images to an album of your choice, it even includes support for tagging and captions as well. Since it’s a java based, the software is platform independent – it’ll work as long as you have a compatible version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed.

FaceBook Photos Uploader

Latest available version of FaceBook photos uploader is v1.4.1.It now supports uploading a maximum of 200 photos per album.

Changelog

  • Changed number of photos per album back from 200 to 60.
  • Fixed problem with dragging photos onto upload panel in Linux ( issue 48 ).
  • Added "Choose Photos" button to allow people to browse filesystem from within the uploader.
  • The photo browser has gone, to be replaced with a panel which lets you drop photos or folders onto it.
  • Minor UI change in about box

Download

This software is free and is only 4.5MB in file size.

If you are a fan of hardcore/hardstyle music you’ll love this site. Underground Ravers (UR) is a specialized music tracker focusing only on hardcore music, music videos and a limited number of music related applications. Although it’s a relatively unknown site, UR has been around for more than three years and actually has a long history. Underground Ravers has always been a tracker that preferred secrecy – however it is now seeking more members to expand its user base. Tracker admins have been kind enough to give an exclusive signup key for FILEnetworks Blog readers which will support an unlimited number of registrations during a limited period of time.

Underground Ravers

Underground Ravers was launched back in mid 2006 – It was started as a replacement for Ravetracker, which shut down due to legal threats on the same year (Ravetracker itself was started after happy2bhardcore was shut down). Since then UR has slowly but steadily grown into a small community based hardcore music tracker. As of  19/7/2009 this tracker has close to 600 members and indexes over 1850 active torrents.

As mentioned several times in this article Underground Ravers specializes in hardcore music. Releases span across 6 main categories; live, tape, video, vinyl, CD, other and digital. Note that there are a lot of non scene user uploads on this tracker which are probably not found elsewhere. You can preview a part of UG’s torrent index in the following screenshot:

Underground Ravers Screenshot

If you are planning to become a member of this site and is planning to use Azureuz/Vuze as your BT client, you might want to read the following:

Please DO NOT use Azureus/Vuze bittorrent client on this tracker. There is a problem with this client where it can double the stats you send to the tracker.
We recommend using uTorrent.
If you Azureus/Vuze then staff will not fix any ratio problems you may encounter. You have been warned!

Underground Ravers has always been a ‘secret’ tracker. Even posting tracker URL in public is usually prohibited (this article is which is approved by site admins is an exception). They currently have open signups however judging by the reactions in the shoutbox, this isn’t a very popular decision among the site’s existing members. However it should definitely be great news for hardcore music fans looking forward to get into Underground Ravers (EDIT: Already closed. Only way in is via our signup link).

Site Name: Underground Ravers (http://www.underground-ravers.com)

Signup URL: http://www.underground-ravers.com/signup.php

FILEnetworks Signup Key: http://www.underground-ravers.com/signup.php?key=FLNW190709

Note: This key is for FILEnetworks Blog readers only. If you are posting it elsewhere please link to this article instead of just posting the key – people who sign up should at least know what the tracker is about.

Special thanks to UR admins and staff for offering FILEnetworks Blog readers a chance to become members of this tracker.

Bionic Commando has finally arrived for the PC. Note that this is not the previously released platform game 'BC : Rearmed’ we are talking about. This article is about the FPS that was released on the 17th of July. I’ve just installed the game, played it for a few mins and it doesn’t look bad at all. However if you are thinking of playing this with a Mouse+Keyboard setup be prepared to go through hell until you get used to the controls – everything seems to be optimized for the XBOX360 controller. That being said this article as usual discusses troubleshooting information for various audio, video and other technical issues you might encounter with Bionic Commando 2009 (and how to unlock content, of course).

Bionic Commando 2009 Cover

Note that this article is a work in progress. More troubleshooting information will be added as we get information.

How do I unlock bonus content, additional skins and other unlockables in Bionic Commando 2009

It appears that Bionic Commando 2009 (PC) has at least three unlockable items; Prototype weapon, the purple matrix and retro skin. Right now we can tell you how to unlock the retro skin.

The retro skin is automatically unlocked if you beat previously released Bionic Commando Rearmed. However not all of us have the time to do that so let’s try a registry hack to make the game think you completed it :)

  1. Launch the Windows Registry editor (in Start-->Run type regedit and press enter)
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Grin\Shared\
  3. Once in the ‘Shared’ directory, right click on empty white space on the right hand panel and select New->String Value
  4. Type db_retro_skin as the name and press enter. Right click db_retro_skin and select modify.  Enter e03ae879d5441029e52f31b33a4181de in the value field and press ok.
  5. Close registry editor and start Bionic Commando

The classic skin should now be unlocked.

How do I enable Anti Aliasing (AA) in Bionic Commando 2009?

If you were wondering whether you can enable AA from the in game menu, well you can’t. The only hope is to force AA through your video card’s control panel. However I wouldn’t recommend this as the game uses the Diesel engine which does not like driver forced settings.

How do i disable the intro movie and splash screen from being shown every time BC loads?

Intro movie is very cool the first time you see it. But when it plays every time you launch the game it becomes a pain in the ass. Luckily you can disable both the splash screen and the intro through a command line parameter.

Create a shortcut for Bionic Commando exe on your desktop. Right click the desktop shortcut, go to properties and append the following at the end of ‘Target’ field.

  • -nointro
  • -s

-nointro disables intro movie while –s disables splash. To disable both use –nointro –s

Bionic Commando crashes to desktop, hangs at loading screen or does not load at all.

This seems to be quite a common issue among many gamers but the actual cause in most cases seem to be related to not having the proper software required to run the game. Make sure you have the following installed before you run the game. You can also check this thread on official support forums which is started by a user with similar problems.

  1. NVIDIA PhysX – Bionic Commando requires NVIDIA PhysX installed in order to run. If your display driver did not install PhysX automatically (some driver versions do not), you can manually download and install the PhysX system software from here.
  2. Updated version of DirectX – If you are using Windows XP, please update to the latest DirectX monthly runtime. This will get rid of all the ‘missing dll file’ errors and will reduce the possibility of in game crashes. Latest monthly runtime can be found here.
  3. Update Video card drivers – Both NVIDIA and ATI have recent video drivers out – you should always try updating to the latest official driver version available for your hardware for best performance. If anything goes wrong, the option to rollback to previous release is always there.
ATI Drivers: Download the latest ATI Catalyst drivers from this link: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx
NVIDIA Drivers: Download latest official NVIDIA drivers from this link: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
For Beta ATI/NVIDIA drivers for Windows 7, XP and Vista, check out this page: http://downloads.guru3d.com/. If you are having video issues with official drivers, do not hesistate to give beta drivers a go. They are not always evil as the sound like.
  4. Update sound card and motherboard drivers - Click Here to download 3DP Chip for Windows Vista/XP – This program will automatically detect your hardware (video card, sound card and motherboard) and find available driver updates.

It’s the largest and the hardest-to-get-into tracker in the BitShock family – BSk is invite only while the other two sites are almost always open. However with the recent promotions and challenges launched by the site ops, getting into this site has become quite easy. Following is quoted from homepage:

Bitshock launches a new challenge: We've put at your disposal 250 invites per user, each bringing you a fantastic 5gb upload bonus for every user invited. Still, there's a catch: If one of your invited members get's disabled/banned, you will loose 10 GB upload credit. So please do not try to make double accounts, we will find out and things will not be pleasant

Note that the 250 invites promotion will end on the 26th of June. Whatever codes you have left unused will be removed on that date so use them when you can.

Guest Account Details: BSk has a really innovative feature which allows users to preview the site before you register. Download/Upload is disabled but you can have a good look at BSk’s design, content and community by signing in with the guest account.

  • Username: BSk
  • Password: bitshock

Invite Codes:

You can use one of the invitation codes below to create a free account at BSk. If you want you can even share your invite codes with others here as comments to this article. However keep in mind that invite trading and selling is prohibited – only giveaway is allowed. Before signing up, please use the guest account to observer the site – create an account only if you find the site useful. Please do not waste invites if you do not intend to use the tracker.

The battle between  warez scene groups and P2P oriented ‘non scene’ groups (who usually release on private/public BitTorrent trackers as opposed to scene topsites) has been raging for quite a while now. Initially the scene declared war on P2P due to the easy accessibility it gave to scene releases which were meant to be shared only among scene members. However now things are a little different – P2P groups with good sources have grown in numbers and they sometimes beat scene groups into releasing some popular pirated material. With all these changes, the scene’s hatred towards P2P might not just be about security anymore. It could even be because of ‘competition’.

Following are several Scene Notices that triggered the latest episode of e-drama series Scene vs P2P. The first notice accuses scene group APOLLO of stealing encodes from What.CD, the popular private music torrent tracker. The second notice contains APOLLO’s reply and then the war rages on for four more scenenotices (some of these include screenshots/images as ‘proof’). For those interested in reading them, we’ve included download links below:

We don’t really know if APOLLO really stole encodes from what.cd or not. But it’s kinda ironic that even the scene member who accuses APOLLO of stealing from What.CD and trashing p2p himself is actually an active member of the BitTorrent tracker. Once again this is E-drama at its beast so read it and forget it :)

It’s always exciting news when a new specialized TV torrent tracker launches. Well then be excited – TVSource is the latest dedicated TV tracker to hit the BitTorrent scene. Just like some of the recently launched sites such as DVDRSOURCE and SceneDVDR, Tvsource is based on the recently made public source code of SweDVDR (now defunct). It’s currently the first and only private TV tracker to be based on SweDVDR source. As you might have already guessed, Tvsource is a Sweden based site. However, there are a lot of English content available, including scene released TV shows.

TVsource logo 1

It’s only been 8 days since this tracker was launched and its growth so far has been nothing short of explosive. Already (as of 18/7/2009) there are close to 1400 members registered on the site and over 400 torrents have been uploaded (that's around 50 TV torrents per day) during this time .

As we previously mentioned Tvsource tracks both English and Swedish content. This includes episodes/season packs of popular TV shows aired in the US/UK as well as some of those aired in Sweden. Both scene releases as well as p2p releases are indexed, including a lot of HD content. Following screenshot captures some of the full TV season packs found in Tvsource:

TVSource Logo

One of the major turn offs for English speaking users would be the site interface. It’s completely in Swedish and there is no way to change it to English. Anyway it’s not a huge issue since it’s pretty easy to find your way around even without English labels. If it helps, Nytt’ means ‘Browse’ (which is probably all you need to know).

For the moment Tvsource is open for registrations. However the open signup window might only be in place so that members from the now defunct SvartaKatten tracker could get in. Translated version of a site notice is quoted below:

2009-07-16 - Freeleech is now over. In short, we registrations and run only invitation. To see now that keeping your ratio on top!

So don’t expect the SvartaKatten promotion to last long. If you are interested in joining this tracker now would be a good time to do so.

Most of our readers should by now have a PTN account. We’ve updated the blog numerous times when PTN opened their invite applications to the external public. If you still have not managed to get in, invite applications are open yet again during this weekend (18th and 19th July). However open invite apps are not this week’s hot topic at PTN. In celebration of Intr4ns1t’s birthday (one of their Captains) 3X upload for all torrents has been enabled. That is, whatever the actual amount you upload will be multiplied by three times and added to your statistics on the tracker.

Following is a notice quoted from PTN homepage

2009-07-17 - Intr4ns1t BDay Bash -

Hell with it, it only happens once a year! 3xUpload is on for the weekend to celebrate Intr4ns1t aging well like an old wine!
Personally, i hope he won't use it and go bashing around... If you still didn't, noobs or not, give him a warm shout here:
https://*********.***/forums.php?action=viewtopic&topicid=2626

And of course, external applications will also be open for the most part of this weekend:

External Application is currently open!
It will be automatically closed in 1d 21h 35m 39s

(This was posted on the 17th of July 18:00 GMT. Remaining time of 1d 21h 35m 39s should be counted from this point onwards).

For those of you who don’t know what PTN is, it’s a ratio free English movie tracker with a large focus on community. For a detailed review of the site along with screenshots, please refer to this article.

Site Name: PTN

Statistics: 5600+ torrents and 2350+ members

Invite Application URL: http://*********.***/comeandplay.php (do not use ‘www’ in the address)

Note: PTN tracker rules prohibit displaying full tracker URL in public so only the location of the invite application was given (../comeandplay.php). Do not ask for full tracker URL or post it here.

At one point, eBookVortex was one of the most popular E-learning torrent trackers in the BitTorrent scene. It had an excellent torrent collection which included some of the most popular educational books in electronic form. However the site’s popularity began to climb down mainly due to the various lengthy downtimes and crashes eBookVortex experienced back in 2008. There were times the tracker and site were offline for about a week. And during one such lengthy downtime, they even lost the user database and torrent index completely. Anyway if you were a fan of old eBookVortex, the good news is the site is still here – and it definitely does not seem to be a ‘dying tracker’.

ebookvortex new logo

As we said above, at one point eBookVortex had to rebuild their torrent index and user database from scratch. They’ve done a pretty good job of it actually – as of 17/7/2009 the tracker has close to 900 active torrents and over 10000 registered members. There are plenty of new members signing up daily but the number of torrents being uploaded daily could definitely see some improvements (especially with other similar sites like PureTorrents adding thousands of torrents in a couple of months).

As the name suggests, eBookVortex is a specialized tracker for E-Book torrents. Bulk of the torrents indexed are educational content related to Information Technology, Programming, Medicine, Mathematics, Electronics and so on. However there are non-education content such as Magazines, Cooking, Food & Wine related books, Fiction, etc available as well. There are some E-book packs indexed as well. The following screenshot captures part of the torrent index of eBookVortex:

ebookvortex screnshot

eBookVortex’s interface pretty much remains unchanged. There are two stylesheets to choose from – the default skin and NB-39 (more colorful) skin.

This tracker is currently open for signup. If you are looking for a decent E-book tracker, eBookVortex is definitely worth checking out. And if you thought this site was dead with all the downtimes and crashes, you are dead wrong.

Right now everyone is talking about Google Chrome OS, the upcoming Operating System by Google targeted at Netbooks. This is not another one of those article that speculate on what features Chrome OS would have or what it’s impact on Windows market share will be. Instead, we thought of focusing on Google Android. Even though many are unaware, having an Android compatible mobile device is not a must if you want to try out the OS. It could even be run on Netbooks and even on Personal Computers (definitely with limitations though). This is where LiveAndroid comes in.

Android Logo

LiveAndroid is basically is LiveCD for Android OS that could be used on any 32-bit computer (A live CD or live DVD is a CD or DVD containing a bootable computer operating system). Have you ever used the Ubuntu LiveCD? This is exactly like that. All you have to do is to download the image file, burn it to a CD with a CD burner software such as Nero (via the Burn using Image File option), put the CD in your CD/DVD ROM and boot the computer with it (you might have to set your CD-ROM as the first boot device in BIOS).

The best part is that booting from LiveAndroid will not change anything in your current OS configuration (which is always the case with LiveCDs). If you want to get rid of Android all you want to do is to remove the CD from the CD ROM drive and boot normally – your regular OS will load just fine, untouched and unchanged. Downside would be that you won’t be able to save anything while booted from the LiveCD – it’s good for testing purposes only.

Many people prefer smaller, specialized private torrent trackers than larger sites with bits of everything (aka General/0Day trackers). Specialized trackers usually have rare, unique content that is not found elsewhere. This article features five such sites with some of the rarest torrent collections in the BitTorrent scene; The Box (TV), The Occult (Cult/Mythology), The Vault (Business/E-Learning), The Place (Lifestyle) and ElbitZ (E-Learning). Note that all of these sites have previously been mentioned in FILEnetworks Blog. However, we thought another mention of these sites will be worthy since we constantly get new visitors ( and it’s not everyday you see these open up to the public). If you still haven’t managed to get into these content rich trackers, here is yet another chance.

Out of the five sites featured in this article (all except ElbitZ), four are sister sites run by the same group of people. Also note that some of these trackers offer free invites on their IRC channels - If open signups are closed by the time you read this, you can always try your luck on IRC.

ElbitZ
Elbitz Banner
With the shut down of Docs.Torrents.Ro, ElbitZ’s usefulness has only increased. It’s more like an E-learning tracker that everyone can access. ElbitZ has monthly open signups and boasts a pretty good collection and educational and non-educational electronic books. In addition to the books there is multimedia content such as video tutorials, test engines and so on. A lot of books related to lifestyle and various other subjects can also be found.

One of the most annoying things associated with online video streaming is stuttering and hiccups. Down here in Sri Lanka, I always find it difficult to play some of those YouTube HD videos during daytime. Even though plenty of bandwidth is available, video streaming rarely utilizes the available network resources. So I’ve been on the lookout for a ‘download manager’ sort of thing for online video. Out of the several applications I’ve so far stumbled across, Speedbit Video Accelerator (SVA) definitely looked interesting. It promises to “make your videos stream faster and play smoother, reducing buffering problems and video "hiccups”.

Speedbit Video Accelerator logo

If it makes any difference, this software is developed by Speedbit, makers of the infamous Download Manager Plus (DAP). Video Accelerator been around for a while (since 2007) and Speedbit have just released v3.0 beta with several major features. I’ve only used this application for a few minutes and so far with somewhat mixed results. There definitely was an improvement with streaming video but it wasn’t earth shattering. Some people have reported having BSOD errors after installing this software but I have not experienced any crashes so far (if you get any, just uninstall SVA, that should fix it).

There are two main versions of SVA available – the free edition and the premium edition. Free edition has everything the premium edition has, sans HD video streaming acceleration and iTunes acceleration. Also note that the free version is ad-supported (adware is not installed in your machine, but ads are served from within the app jut like in Windows Live Messenger).

Ratio free trackers are increasingly becoming common in the BitTorrent scene. This article is about another such site; Vibes.fm. Vibes is one of the relatively new sites in the BT community and one of the few ratio free music trackers that are around (along with TheScene.Ro and CoExist -CE ). However, this is not just any music tracker- it’s rather a more specialized site that focuses only on Jazz music. If you are a Jazz music fan, you might want to check it out – there are lots of new and old Jazz stuff indexed on this tracker. Both lossy and lossless music torrents can be found here, of course.

Vibes.fm logo

Launched about two months ago, Vibes.fm has been slowly but steadily adding new torrents and recruiting new members. As of 15/7/2009 there are close to 1000 active members and 375+ active torrents – respectable stats for a start up niche tracker. Also keep in mind that during the first few weeks since launch, Vibes was invite-only (IRC invites were available).

As for the content on Vibes, it’s full of Jazz music. Most of the torrents point to music albums – some of them newly released and some of the pretty old (from the 1960s, 1970s, etc). As mentioned earlier both lossy and lossless music (MP3, OGG and FLAC) is available for download.

Vibes Screenshot

By usual standards, Vibes is a ratio free tracker. However, the following phrase (quoted from FAQ) is quite interesting:

We have a ratio system, but it honestly doesn’t matter to the staff members. If we feel you are not contributing to the site in some way (it doesn’t have to be upload/download), we will limit your downloads. We have sympathy for those who have slow connections or are on shared connections.

Vibes is currently based on the somewhat aged but hugely popular BitTorrent tracker script TBDEV. However there is an ongoing poll “Should vibes move to gazelle?” – nearly 80% of the votes so far are for ‘Yes’ so we might see a possible migration to Gazelle in the future. Either way signups for Vibes.fm are currently open. If you are a Jazz music fan, don’t forget to check this tracker out.

When you want to find detailed information about a registered domain, you most probably will make use of the WHOIS record of it. To do this you need to connect to a WHOIS server and search for the specific domain. There are many online utilities to simply and automate this task but how about a desktop tool? WhoisThisDomain is a nice little desktop application which will fetch the information you need in a matter of seconds - all you have to do is to input the desired domain name. Below is a screenshot of the application responding to the search term ‘www.google.com’:

WhoIsThisDomain Screenshot

Developer Description

This utility allows you to easily get information about a registered domain. It automatically connect to the right WHOIS server, according to the top-level domain name, and retrieve the WHOIS record of the domain. It support both generic domains and country code domains.

Download

Of course, this is free software. What’s even more interesting is that WhoisThisDomain is only around 50KB in file size and does not require an installation.

It’s been a while since we last featured a General/0Day tracker based on the Gazelle codebase. Well you never have too wait too long these days because new sites are being launched all the time. Torrent Core is one such young entrant to the BitTorrent scene and a new addition to the list of Gazelle based trackers. It’s general tracker which has movies, games, music, etc released by the warez scene as well as by p2p groups such as DEViSE and FLAWL3SS. As of 06/07/2009, Torrent Core is just one week old and is still an infant among hundreds of established General/0Day trackers that are around.

Torrent Core

In terms of statistics Torrent Core has had a great start. During the first two weeks since their launch close to 2000 users have signed up and over 700 torrents have been uploaded. There is enough activity on most of the torrents to keep them going but the site could definitely do with some more leechers/seeders.

Torrent Core is a general tracker and right now it does not offer anything drastically different than what most other trackers in the same genre offer. Although the site did index most major scene and p2p releases that were pre’d in the past week, there aren’t many packs or exclusive releases around. However let’s not forget that TC is a brand new tracker – things could pick up as time goes on.

Torrent Core Screenshot

As we mentioned earlier Torrent Core is based on Gazelle. While it’s definitely an advantage, Gazelle based trackers are not uncommon these days (SceneRace, TorrenTiT, 7Track, FTS, etc)- TC should not rely on this to get more members.

Anyway there seems to be quite a few things going on to get more user participation on the site. All torrents are currently on free leech and new members get an unlimited number of invites for a short period of time. If you want to check out a new general tracker, go ahead and create an account.

Once upon a time there was a private tracker named danger.lv. Then one day an anti piracy agency in their country (Latvia) got high and shut it down. Several months later the tracker came back online. Sounds all too familiar isn’t it? Yep, No matter how hard they try, almost all trackers that get shut down soon resurface, most of the time stronger that ever thanks to the free publicity given. Situation is the same with Danger.LV, which used to be one of the most popular private trackers in Latvia. DangerLV has returned as InPeril.net within weeks after their shut down.

InPeril logo

Danger.LV is not the only Latvian tracker that got shut down when Latvian Music Producers Association (LaMPA) suddenly woke up last February. Another popular Latvian tracker Outlaw.lv and several others too were closed. Outlaw had returned earlier as ‘New Outlaw’ and now Danger.LV too has re-surfaced as inPeril (came online a few weeks ago actually).

inPeril seems to have retained the large user base and torrent index of Danger.LV – there are currently close to 17500 registered members and over 7000 active torrents indexed on the tracker. The site also sports a new look in a revamped new interface.

When it comes to content, inPeril is a General/0Day tracker. It’s a Latvian tracker so some of the indexed torrents are local releases (some are dubbed). However there is a lot of English content here – almost all major scene/p2p releases are indexed. InPeril also has a good ‘Packs’ section:

InPeril Packs

Note that some of these packs are not exclusive inPeril releases. For example in the above screenshot there are packs from MazeTorrents (MzT), TorrentBytes (TB) and even TorrentLeech (TL).

Anyway right now InPeril is open for new registrations. If you are interested in joining a new general tracker (or if you were a member of Danger.LV), check this site out.

First of all this is a pretty old video that surfaced several months ago so you might have already watched it. However I had to convince myself that creativity was still around after watching this streaming shi1tpile – hence this post. This is one of the funniest videos I’ve ever come across and the best part is it’s related to BitTorrent. In this parody, Adolf Hitler gets banned from elite torrent tracker SceneTorrents (ScT). As you can see, he is not very pleased with it :)

Warning: This video contains offensive language

Note that this video surfaced shortly after the Pay2Leech site ‘TV Land’ was raided and shut down. Lots of ScT uploaders had accounts on that site and as a result ScT’s pre times were unusually long for a few days since the bust. There are references to this incident in the video. Anyways full credit to the creator of the video (I first saw it on FST and can’t remember who the original poster was).

Let’s face it- you can find XVID encoded movies in almost every General/0Day tracker. But how about a tracker with movies in RMVB format? RMVB (RealMedia multimedia container format) is a somewhat popular file format on file sharing mediums. Movies encoded in this format are generally smaller in file size that their XVID counterparts – for example a typical 1.5 hour (1CD) RMVB movie weighs at 350-400MB while a 2+ hours movie (2CD) weighs at around 700MB in file size. Of course there are differences in video quality but RMVB is actually a good option for those who’ll die for a few hundred MBs of storage space or bandwidth.

RMVBUSTERS

RmvBusterS is a private torrent tracker that deals exclusively with movies and TV series in RMVB format. You won’t find any of the standard XVID encoded scene releases or untouched DVDR releases here. Instead you’ll find re-encoded RMVB versions of popular movies and TV series. The fact that each and every torrent on this tracker being a unique re-encode not found on other sites makes RMVBusters a valuable addition to a pirate’s treasure box.

Did we mention that RmvBusterS is a Polish tracker? There are both Polish and English content here. Almost all torrents have some Polish word in their title but that doesn’t mean they have Polish audio or dubbed in Polish. For example Anioly i Demony (Angels and Demons) (2009) [Sub-PL] [R5.LiNE-DEViSE] [x264-RmvBusterS] actually has English audio with optional Polish subtitles. Same goes for many other torrents found on this site – look for the Eng tag on title to find English content (which are plentiful by the way).

RMVB Movies Screenshot

RmvBusterS  is a well established tracker in the BitTorrent scene. Although the site is almost always closed to public signups, it has no shortage of members – right now there are over 7000 registeredmembers on this site. With over 7700 torrents, RmvBusterS has a pretty big torrent index too.

If you are interested getting into this tracker, now is your chance. It’s currently open for public registration and no invitation code is required to signup during this time. Get in while you can – signups may become invite only at any time.

Out of the thousands of private BitTorrent trackers that are online, there are only a handful sites that focus on recorded radio shows. If you love downloading popular radio talk shows and listening to them at leisure, you’ll be pleased to hear about Bite My Torrent (BMT) – it’s one of those rare trackers that focus on radio shows. BMT tracks daily episodes of some of most the popular shows aired in AM, FM and even satellite radio. It’s a niche tracker catering to a small segment of the torrent community but some of you might actually be surprised by the size of this site.

Bite My Torrent

With over 7100 members and 3500 active torrents, Bite My Torrent is bigger than most mid sized General/0Day trackers. And that’s not all, users here seem to be very active. One of the best things about not-so-popular private torrent sites is that they are usually free of inactive collectors but are full of active members. Same goes for BMT – most of the new, popular torrents have well over 100 seeders on them.

As mentioned in the first paragraph, majority of the torrents on BiteMyTorrent are radio talk shows. Daily episodes of Opie and Anthony Show, The Hideout, Jason Ellis Show, Ron and Fez, Jim Breuer Show,  Ants, Virus weekend programming and various other audio/video clips including stand-up comedy torrents can be found on this tracker. Audio files are usually available in several different formats including 64k/128k MP3, etc. Screenshot below shows some of the new torrents uploaded to BMT as of 10/7/09:

Thinking of how to get into BiteMyTorrent tracker? It’s pretty easy actually. The site is almost always open for signup (including now) and anyone is free to create a new account. If you are a fan of radio talk shows, this tracker is a must have.

Video streaming sites such as YouTube are all too common nowadays. Those who’d like to view streamed video offline might find this post useful. Usually when a video is streamed online, your web browser keeps a copy of the streamed content in the browser cache in the form of a video file. If you locate this file then you can view the video offline. However hunting for video files in browser cache can be quite a painful task. This is where VideoCacheView comes in - it automatically finds video files scattered around in your browser cache.

VideoCacheView

Developer Description

VideoCacheView doesn't require any installation process or additional DLL files. In order to start using it, simply run the executable file (VideoCacheView.exe). After running VideoCacheView, it scan the cache folders of your Internet Explorer and Mozilla browsers, as well as the temporary folder of Windows. Wait 5 - 30 seconds until the scanning process is finished, and the main window of VideoCacheView should display all the video files that are currently in cache.

You can view a full list of features and a few walkthroughs on how to view certain file types (flv files, etc) on VideoCacheView homepae.

Ubisoft released Anno 1404 Dawn of Discovery (PC) to the North American market on the 23rd of June. Although it was a relatively ‘silent’ launch without much hype, the game seems to be very popular among fans of strategy games. If you didn’t know about Anon 1404 already, it’s a city building game with RTS elements mixed in. Anyway the purpose of this post is to give a little tip on how to prevent the ‘crash to desktop when starting the game’ issue several of our readers were facing. I cannot guarantee that it’ll solve all your crashing issues but is definitely worth a try.

Anno 1404 Dawn of Discovery cover

Anno 1404 is optimized for DirectX 10 (don’t worry, DX9 is also supported) and the game by default will launch in DX10 mode if supported hardware is detected. However it seems that DX10 mode causes crashes to desktop (CTD) even on some (not all) video hardware that are listed compatible with the game. If this is really the case, you can avoid the crash by forcing the game to run on DirectX 9. Downside of this method would be that you won’t see graphical enhancements of DX10 in game. Anyways here is how you can force DX9 mode in Anno 1404 by manually editing game configuration file:

  1. Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Ubisoft\anno1404\config\engine.ini (In Windows Vista this file is located in C:\Users\USERNAME\….)
  2. Create a backup of engine.ini file. Open the engine.ini with a text editor such as Notepad.
  3. Search for the tag <DirectXVersion>. You will find the line
    <DirectXVersion>0</DirectXVersion>
  4. Change this line so that it looks like this:
    <DirectXVersion>9</DirectXVersion>

You game will now run in DirectX 9 mode. With luck, this might resolve your CTD issue too.

By the way Anno 1404 was protected by TAGES + SolidShield DRM. However Razor1911 seems to have successfully hoodwinked the protection through the use of a virtual machine. Technically not a crack but a workaround nevertheless. Interesting…

SeductionGR (SGR) is quite a different tracker to what we’ve been posting the last few days – it’s a BiTorrent site focusing on lifestyle related content (the name might imply it’s a porn tracker but it’s not). Content on this tracker is divided into three major themes; Money, Women and Life. A wealth of multimedia content as well as E-books can be found under each of these categories. SeductionGR used to have an application based signup system where each user had to be manually approved by staff. However, signups have now been opened and you can instantly create an account if interested.

seductionGR

Some of you might not have heard about this tracker before but it’s not a tiny site nor is it a new entrant to the BitTorrent scene. SeductionGR is a pretty mature community when it comes to private trackers. There are over 4300 registered members and 5500+ active torrents as of 9/7/2009. Let’s not forget the fact that this is a niche tracker.

As mentioned above, content on SeductionGR is broken into three main categories; Women, Money and Life. The ‘Women’ section has e-books, DVD video on styles, seduction, sexology, video seminars and so on. The ‘Money’ section has media related to making money, both offline and online. Finally the ‘Life’ section includes torrents related to fitness/body building, magic, NLP, hypnosis, etc.  Actually there are lots of other categories – the list is too long to post here.

SeductionGR Screenshot

SeductionGR is now completely open to the public - the application based registration system is no more. Actually this was done a month ago & we somehow missed to update the blog. Anyways if you are interested in becoming a member of a decent lifestyle tracker, check this site out.

Stumbled across an interesting YouTube video yesterday (actually @isohunt Tweeted it). According to the video description it’s supposed to be an anti piracy video -“anti-piracy hero MC Double Def DP will return in the summer of 2009 to drop some more knowledge on would-be pirates in the sequel to 1992's "Don't Copy That Floppy!”. Watched it once and I still can’t figure out if this is some kind of a joke or a real propaganda video by SIIA (Software and Information Industry Association). I didn’t feel like giving up piracy at all – Instead, I had a sudden urge to puke. See for yourself:

Edit: According to Wikipedia the video is real. Now that’s really messed up lol.

This is quite a hot topic right now in the BitTorrent community and you might already have read about it elsewhere. However the fact remains that Packme.in (PiN) is one of the most original trackers to hit the BitTorrent scene recently, both in terms of looks and concept. Up until now, ‘Packs’ on private trackers were seen as something that added value to the site. In fact packs were one of the main reasons that helped trackers such as SCC and ScT attain the ‘elite’ status they enjoy today. And now, we have a tracker that deals entirely with packs and the best news of all is that it’s ratio free. How cool is that?

Packme.in

From user classes (you start as a Donkey and proceed to become a JackAss, FatAss and so on) to the login system, originality is written all over Packme.in. Even the interface is heavily customized and you wouldn’t be able to tell it’s based on the good old TBDEV script at first. I bet you’ve seen many new trackers that do not even bother to edit the FAQ template that comes with TBDEV by default – well this is not one of them. Packme.in’s FAQ page (called WhatTheFAQ or WTFAQ) seems to be completely re-written and actually does include information relevant to the tracker.

Let’s not forget the fact that ‘The Donkey’ is a brand new private tracker. It was launched on the 2nd of July and the growth so far has been phenomenal. Over 125 packs have already been uploaded and the best part is that the site seems to have a very active user base ( it would be nice to have the option to sort torrents by number of leechers/seeders/snatches, etc- this functionality is currently not there).

As mentioned earlier Packme.in is a ratio free tracker but there are strict rules against hit and running:

Do not hit and run. You must seed or leech a torrent a total of 7 days whenever it has started downloading. You have 96 hours to seed or leech the first 72 hours (It does not have to be consecutive) and you have 1 month to seed the 7 days total. Regular hit and running will result in the disabling of your account.

Seeding rules might seem a little harsh at first but I think they are necessary to keep those huge torrents alive. Speaking of torrents and site content, it’s all about packs. All sorts of torrent collections including Anime, Apps, Audiobooks, eBooks, eVideos, Films, Games, Music Videos, Porn and TV packs are available here:

PiN Categories
PiN PAcks

Although there is no upload:download ratio, the main ‘currency’ in PiN is Pack Points. With enough pack points you can purchase user class promotions, custom avatars, signatures and so on. All of this is done through the ‘Donkey Shop’. This system is somewhat similar to the one that is used in iTN tracker.

Unlike most new private trackers, Packme.in has never had an open signup and it’s unlikely that there will be one soon – currently users need an invitation code to become a member. However there are two ways you can easily obtain an invite; via E-mail request and via IRC interview. You can use either of these methods (but NOT both at the same time) to find a PiN invite.

If you are forwarding an invite request via E-mail, follow the process outlined below:

1. Create a blank E-mail. In the body of your E-mail please answer to the following questions as clearly as you can (write your answers next to the questions).

  1. Are you on any other private trackers? (If yes, please give as many profile links as you feel comfortable)
  2. Are you on any bittorrent forums? (If yes, please give as many profile links as you feel comfortable)
  3. Have you ever been banned or disabled from a torrent site? If yes, why?
  4. Are you staff at any bittorrent related tracker/forum? If yes, where?
  5. Are you a coder, designer, or other skilled user willing to lend his/her skills to PiN? (If yes, which one?)
  6. Would you like to be an uploader? (If yes, do you have a seedbox? Please give a speedtest)

2. Set the subject of your E-mail to “PiN invite – through FILEnetworks Blog”.

3. Send the E-mail to pininvites[at]gmail[dot]com
Invite applications will be reviewed by PiN staff – they might direct some follow up questions before sending an invite. Only the applicants approved by staff will be sent invites.

To make an invite request via IRC, join the official invites channel:

Server: irc.packme.in
Channel: #PackMe.IN
Direct Link: irc://irc.packme.in/packme.in
Once on the channel, check the topic for instructions.
If you are an IRC noob, check this article.

Good Luck!

Note: There is an ‘official review’ of Packme.in posted on their forums. This post however is an independent review by FILEnetworks which is purely based on our experience of the site.

Pretty awesome news indeed – after a number of 0.X.X builds, VLC Media Player 1.0.0 ‘goldeneye’ has finally been released. This is a major upgrade over earlier versions and incorporates a number of new features and improvements such as on the fly recording for all media, RTSP trickplay support, timeshift, frame-by-frame playback and more. VLC 1.0.0 also includes many new video decoders including Real Video 3.0 & 4.0 decoder, AES3 decoder, New Dolby Digital Plus - E-AC-3 (A/52b) decoder, new True HD/MLP decoder, etc. Best thing about the new features is that they have not made the app bloated – VLC is still a slim, lightweight media player that can play almost any sh1t you throw at it.

The demand for classic movie trackers has always been high in the BitTorrent community. There are some great private trackers for classic stuff around such as Cinematik, ILoveClassics, Cinemageddon, TV-Vault, etc and featured in this post is another similar tracker; GORMOGON. Yeah you probably have never heard about it before but the site is real - It’s actually a reincarnation of Classic Cinema Zone (CCZ), a popular old movies tracker. What’s interesting about Gormogon is that it’s not just limited to movies- other obscure media such as books, TV series and even music is allowed here.

GORMOGON Logo

Gormogon might be new site but it is buzzing with activity. New torrents are uploaded quite frequently and over 2600 indexed torrents are already available on this tracker (CCZ’s torrent index must have helped too). Additionally, Gormogon has over 500 registered members as of (7/6/2009). A limited number of torrents found on this site are tracked by external public trackers such as Demonoid. However the vast majority are tracked by Gormogon’s own private tracker (ratio rules apply to these).

As we mentioned earlier this is a tracker for rare, hard to find, obscure stuff. For example some of the movies indexed on Gormogon date back to 1935 and are not easily found on most other BitTorrent trackers. There is a good number of classic movies, TV shows and rare official soundtracks on this site and more obscure media including E-books, etc might be added in the future. Screenshot below captures some of the torrents found on this tracker:

GORGOMON Screenshot

Some of our readers might want to know more about the connection between Gormogon and Classic Cinema Zone. FedayeenTimmy, a moderator at Gormogon, was kind enough to give us a detailed explanation in this regard:

Gormorgon, as you might have guessed is what Classic Cinema Zone became. By itself it is about 3 months old, and started as a private invitation only from the original user base of CCZ. Crafted as a way to implement a whole host of improvements that the owners of CCZ wanted to do, without trying to drag the entire tracker along while testing, it was developed in parallel. CCZ has gone away, to be held for future projects (as yet undecided).

The initial [Gormogon] invites came from the CCZ user base, but only for selected folks from within that community. The Admin and Mod staff is a completely revamped group... the Mods have all been elevated from the serious Uploader community, and the Admins are serious pros from beyond just the Classic Cinema world.

It was also an effective way to clean the ranks of some registered users who didn't grasp the give part of the give and take of peer to peer, and wanted to treat the community as their own private Pirate Bay to leech exclusively.

Right now Gormogon is closed to the public and only those with an invitation code can join. Good news is that tracker staff have agreed to give 100 free invites to FILEnetworks Blog readers - all you have to do is to send an invite request E-mail with the following format:

  1. Set the subject of your E-mail to ‘Gormogon Invite – FILEnetworks Blog’.
  2. Send the E-mail to loup[dot]garou[at]wowway[dot]com.

An invitation code should be sent to your E-mail address within 1-2 days. Invites are given on a ‘first come, first served’ basis so you might want to hurry (requests are handled by Gormogon staff). Note: Please do not apply for an invite if you have no interest in classic movies/music/TV or other obscure stuff. If you are looking for new releases go look in the General/0Day section.

Special thanks to FedayeenTimmy and other GORMOGON tracker staff.

Great news for those looking to get into TorrentLeech, one of the largest General/0Day private torrent trackers with over 165000 users and close to 25000 active torrents. TL are conducting an invite giveaway right now on their sister site PussyTorrent’s IRC channel. Just like in previous occasions, all you have to do is to sign up with TL’s sponsor Travian games in order to become eligible for an invite request. Note that the giveaway will only last for a few hours and you should try to get on IRC as quickly as possible before it becomes too flooded. Step by step instructions to join the invites channel are presented below.

TorrentLeech Logo

Following is quoted from TorrentLeech homepage:

JULY INVITE GIVEAWAY!! Today we'll extend our user DB by 1,5k members, and we will carry out FEW more FREE INVITES :) Please note that the invites that will be carried away till they are gone, and this can be done in between few mins or few hours,so I would hurry up if I was you!!!.We are handing out invites for TorrentLeech.org via our sisters irc site PussyTorrents.org,in channel #invites !!(careful!!Not in the TorrentLeech irc!We dont want our IRC get flooded by people like the previous invite giveaways,so that is why we doing it under our sister site PussyTorrents.org ;)) Come join us NOW at irc.pussytorrents.org:6011 channel #invites ,or click here--> irc.pussytorrents.org:6011/invites if you are using mIRC,to automatically connect to our invite channel :) PLEASE READ the topic and grab your TorrentLeech invite! Have fun :)

Please make sure to use a valid E-mail address. Once an invite is sent to your e-mail you will be banned from the channel (to avoid flooding). You only get one shot at it so don’t screw it up.

How to get into #invites IRC Channel

  1. Download and install mIRC from here.
  2. Restart your web browser if it was open during mIRC installation.
  3. Click on irc.pussytorrents.org:6011/invites  to join the channel.
  4. If mIRC presents you with a ‘Link Request’ window, choose ‘Change to the new server and join the channel’ option or ‘open a new connection’ option. Press ok.
If you are not using mIRC, just join #invites channel on server irc.pussytorrents.org:6011 from whatever IRC client you are using.

What to do once on the invites IRC Channel?

It’s pretty much explained in detail on the channel topic. But since some people were having problems in the last giveaway, here is a brief tutorial. However it is strongly recommended that you read the current channel topic for the most current information.

  1. Go to the link mentioned on the channel topic. Register for a Travian account using a valid email address. Verify your registration by clicking the link on confirmation email.
  2. Back on the #invites IRC channel, send a private message (PM) to username mentioned in channel topic with your Travian username, verification number and the E-mail address you used in step 2 above. Sending a PM using mIRC can be done by double clicking on the user’s name from the list on the right panel.

While trying to connect to the IRC channel, you may run into error messages or other issues. Read the possible solutions mentioned below to get around them.

If you get Server ERROR: :Closing Link: [IP] Z:Lined (You look like a bot. Be sure to fill in your nick/ident/realname properly.) while trying to connect using mIRC:

  1. Fill in you mIRC Full name, Email Address, Nickname, and Alternative Nickname using believable values - do not use nicks such as Guest23781. (To change these values go to mIRC Tool Menu->Options and Choose ‘Connect’ from right panel).
  2. Save the values and reboot your computer. Try reconnecting the channel now.

Note: The channel may go invite only if a large number of users log in. When this happens TL are known to temporarily open and close the channel to in a bid to prevent flooding. The channel will permanently become invite only (until the next giveaway, if any) once the allocated number of invites (1000 in this case) is given out.

To get instant updates on private tracker invite giveaways and open signups such as this, subscribe to our RSS feed or follow us on Twitter.

Anti piracy agencies never seem understand the simple fact that whenever they shut down a popular BitTorrent tracker, several new ones pop up to fill the gap. We saw this happen with OiNK (which’s demise gave birth to two piglets – What and Waffles) and we are seeing this again with the recent closure of several popular Swedish trackers. Death of SweDVDR triggered the launch of SceneDVDR and DVDRSource while the shut down of SoftMP3 gave life to SceneSound. Within weeks of shutdown, yet another SoftMP3 replacement called CareStreet has surfaced. CareStreet is a private tracker that specializes in scene released MP3 albums.

CareStreet Logo

Built on the recently made public source code of SoftMP3, CareStreet is essentially a clone (in terms of looks) of the popular music tracker. I don’t really know how much customization is possible with SoftMP3 source but at least some changes would be needed in order for this tracker to survive in the long run – there is already a well established SoftMP3 clone around (which is called SceneSound if you didn’t know).

CareStreet Screenshot

Anyways CareStreet doesn’t seem to have any shortage of members right now. In fact it appears that there is high demand for the tracker –within 7 days since launch over 700 users have signed up. Torrents are being added at an equally good pace too – as of 5/7/2009 there are over 375 torrents indexed on this site. Almost all the torrents are of English music albums, promos, OST, etc released by scene groups. There are both MP3 (lossy) and FLAC (lossless) music indexed on CareStreet.

Signups for this tracker are currently open. If you are interested in scene MP3 releases this might be worth joining.

With all the hype about ‘largest game world in a console game’ I expected Fuel to be somewhat of a special game. I’ve played it for several hours and got to say it got a little repetitive after a while. And personally I feel that the game’s physics system could have been improved. Anyways it’s still a fun game and seems to be a hit among racing fans judging by the number of downloads on BitTorrent networks :p. This is a quick post outlining a few fixes for some of the most common problems associated with Fuel for the PC platform.

Codemasters Fuel PC Cover

I get a ‘Save Failed! Would You Like To Try Again?’ error whenever trying to save the game. How do I solve this?

Sometimes you might encounter a ‘Save Failed’ error whenever you try to save progress. You can get rid of this error by repeatedly pressing the save button and the game will display “Save Successful’ message. However when you try to load the savegame, you’ll notice that your progress is lost and you’ll have to start over from scratch. I don’t know if this will work for you but here is how I got it sorted. I was running Kaspersky Anti Virus in the background and when I ran the game with real time protection paused, saves seemed to work fine. Try doing the same for your security software – worth a try.

Also note that Fuel is Games For Windows Live (GFWL) game which I believe handless the save game files storage for specific profiles. So you could try reinstalling GFWL as well. If you messed up with any of the game files (replaced them with cracked or original files), try creating a GFWL offline account and starting from scratch under that account (you might want to consider a reinstall of the game if it doesn't work the first time).

How do I enable VSync in Fuel?

If you want to enable Vertical Synchronization (VSync) in Fuel, you’ll notice that the in game menu lacks this particular option. It could be a real bummer because some users tend to experience tearing issues without VSync. To enable VSync for fuel try the following:

  1. Download the latest version of RivaTuner from here.
  2. Use RivaTuner’s d3doverrider to force VSync (d3doverrider is the utlity with DirectX logo – hover mouse pointer over it and the tooltip will show).

How do I enable Anti-Aliasing in Fuel?

Even if you do enable/force Anti Aliasing in Fuel, there does not seem to be any visible changes in graphics quality. I am yet to find a solution for this problem. Will update if I come across anything new.

Pretome.Net (PTM), definitely one of the best general/0Day private trackers currently in existence, is now open for signup.  Earlier we used to give monthly free registration keys for Pretome through this blog and if you are one of the readers who missed out on these giveaways, today is your lucky day. If you visit the signup page now, you’ll see that a free registration code is included in the page by default. With movies, music, games E-books and other general content including scene releases, p2p releases and torrent packs, PTM is a great general tracker to have. It is also one of the largest ratio free trackers currently around.

pretome tracker

During the 1.5+ years it has been online, Pretome has recorded an impressive growth. What started as a FunFile spinoff has by today outgrown FunFile itself – with over 36000 torrents and around 20000 members, PTM is one of the larger General trackers around. With the huge publicity given to current open signup, expect the member count to increase rapidly.

Speaking about the content tracked by PTM, it pretty much has everything. It tracks both scene and p2p releases and has a quite a few exclusive packs of its own (over 1000 torrents with ‘PTM’ tag on them). Some of the packs are pretty huge and weigh over 200GB in file size. Screenshot below captures part of PTM’s torrent index:

PTM screenshot

Although not many are aware of it, Pretome is in fact a tracker that does not care about your global ratio. Users however do need to seed each downloaded torrent for 60 hours or to a ratio of 0.75 (only one of these requirements has to be met, not both). Most ratio free trackers are associated with slow download speeds but PTM seem to be an exception – download speeds remain generally very good, just like the way they were before ratio rule changes.

Of course, being free of ratio is not the only good thing about PTM. There are lots of other features such as the credits system, advanced search, RSS, arcade, bookmarks, requests, casino, gallery, radio, etc that we’ll leave you to discover.

Being a private tracker, PTM is usually closed to the public and requires a registration key to log in. However they have opened up signups to the public just for this weekend. Quoted below is a notice posted on site homepage:

For this weekend only (Starting July 3rd at 8:00 PM GMT and ending July 5th at midnight GMT ) Pretome will have an open sign up to celebrate the birth of our nation!.  This means that you will not need to send an invite to have your friends and family join our great community.
WARNING!!!! This does NOT mean that people can use your IP to sign up. Our 1 account per IP rule still stands, so make sure they sign up from a different location
We hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday!!

Don’t miss this chance folks – when it comes to General/0-Day trackers, this is one of the best out there. Get in while you can.

Here on FILEnetworks Blog we talk about private torrent trackers almost everyday. However with the recent TPB saga we thought it was timely to talk about public BitTorrent sites as well. Although there are thousands of such sites, most of these are either meta search engines or torrent indexers – they do not operate their own BitTorrent tracker and the indexed torrents usually rely on external trackers to function. This is not what the BitTorrent community needs right now – over reliance of one tracker could have devastating ripple effects. That’s why in this article we’ve given more focus to public torrent sites that operate their own trackers.

Street Fighter 4 for the PC has been released and the game seems to be an instant hit among gamers. SF4 is a welcome addition to the PC platform which in my opinion hasn’t seen a good fighting game since the good old days of Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat 4. Anyway the aim of this post is to help our readers with one of the most common problems associated with Street Fighter 4 (and some other Games for Windows Live titles). If you do not login with a valid GFWL account, the game will not save your progress – upon restart all your progress will be lost. Now everybody doesn't have GFWL live accounts so how can this problem be solved?

street fighter 4 cover screen

The solution is easy. Create a GFWL offline account. You wouldn’t be able to access achievements this way but the game will definitely save your progress. Creating an offline account is totally free and you don’t even need internet access to do that.

  1. When you load SF4, you will be prompted to create a Windows Live account. Continue.
  2. Choose the create account option and then choose the create offline account option. Click ‘Done’ to save and close.
  3. If you do not get the prompt, press ‘Home’ key while in game to bring up the GFWL settings page where you can create the account.

Cheers!

P.S- How’s your keyboard doing? Mine’s already half destroyed :p

Today we are going to talk about a private torrent tracker that only a few people know of; Filmdom. Filmdom is a new untouched DVDR tracker that is based on the Gazelle codebase. It’s a very small community that’s only starting up but the site admin/staff seem to be capable of taking the site to the next level. Filmdom however is very selective about the users allowed access to the site– like most other trackers they seem to hate inactive members. For this very reason we hear that Filmdom will never have public open signups. But if you want in, we have free invites :)

filmdom

As of 1/7/2009 Filmdom has a user base of around 120 members. Currently there are around 50 movie torrents indexed on the site as well. These statistics might seem low compared to well established trackers but don’t forget that Filmdom is a relatively new site that has been largely unknown to the public ever since its inception. However, if they are to compete with fast growing trackers such as PassThePopCorn or Tehconnection, the rate which new torrents are added will definitely need to be improved.

As mentioned earlier Filmdom is a full DVD tracker. All movies on this site are in DVD-R format – no rips are available. There is already a good mix of new and old titles indexed. Refer to screenshot below for more info:

filmdom screenshot

Filmdom is a Gazelle based tracker and like all Gazelle trackers is has a very organized layout and fast navigation with additional features such as tagging. Currently there are around 9 stylesheets to choose from.

As stated at the start of this article Filmdom is unlikely to have open signups ever. However if you want an invite, we can help you with that. There are two methods to get an invite:

Send us an invite request mail:

  1. Create a new email message with the subject ‘Filmdom’. In the body of the message clearly specify the E-mail address you want the invite sent to (write the email message in the format address@provider.comdo not use the address[at]provider[dot]com notation as you did in previous giveaways.
  2. Send the email to invites.filenetworks@gmail.com
NOTE: We only have a limited amount of invites (100 to be precise). And please allow two days since request for the invite to arrive, before you request for one again.

OR

Join Filmdom IRC channel:

  • IRC Server: irc.omgwtfhax.net
  • Channel Name: #filmdom
  • Direct Link: irc://irc.omgwtfhax.net/filmdom
The invites IRC Channel of course has an unlimited number of invites.

Special thanks to Filmdom admin and staff.

All of you already know the big news regarding The Pirate Bay – it’s going to be sold to some company. This post is not another one of those ‘OMG-TPB-is-gone-those-sellouts-!@#$%-them’ rants which the internet seems to be currently full of. I’ve seen a lot of comments by TPB users on various tech blogs which heavily flame the tracker admins for their decision to sell the site. Most of these comments are made by leechers who contribute nothing to the BitTorrent community – in other words by selfish A-holes. Really, it’s a funny way of saying thanks to a tracker that fought against bullies for such a long time.

The Pirate Bay did fight until the very end - until the law of Sweden designated them as criminals. Once that happens, there is only very little even folks like brokep can do. Whatever’s happening now with TPB, one must not forget the fact they fought (and still fight)alongside file sharers for nearly a decade. In fact, they are one of the main reasons BitTorrent is so much popular these days. Even those who now use l33t private trackers most likely used TPB at some point – I bet majority of such users started out with TPB. And I don’t think any of the ‘angry commenters’ even bothered to read TPB’s side of the story at all. Quoted below are some tweets quoted from Brokep’s Twitter account:

Stop that personal cult-hype! File sharing is so much more than TPB. And TPB is still there. People are so negative for no reason!
..

we asked the community to help out for a long time. we got some support on that, but mostly just "kudos!!"
..

We've been asking people to open more trackers, nothing happens. We've been fighting for five years. Where's the thanks?
..

so either there is 60M in a fund, or there is no site and no money. What's the preferred deal? We have no energy left.
..

Yes, we're trying to avoid just that. It's just a site, we need to take the icon status away so lots of sites can replace that.
..

I'm glad people have high expectations. But we're not that many people. And we've been fighting for a long time. We need help.
..

flattr is coming. video bay is coming. ipredator is running. more is coming.
..

It's not about me leaving you guys alone. It's more that I need your support. We're not going away from the fight.

It’s not a time to throw insults at them folks, it’s a time to show them support, without being ungrateful brats.

And for those who scream this is the end of torrents, it’s not. Shutting down of major sites is nothing new to the BitTorrent community. It’s been happening since the early 2000s and we only see an increase of torrent trackers. Even if the Pirate Bay shuts down for good (or goes legal or whatever – what happens next is only speculation), new trackers will pop up to fill the void as we’ve witnessed many times in the past. So don’t overreact – keep the e-drama to a minimum :)

Popular General/0Day private tracker Ozone-Torrents (Ozone-T) is currently open for signup. Ozone Torrents has decent pre times, good download speeds and a considerable number of users. As a general tracker it tracks all new movies, music, TV episodes, E-books and other scene and p2p releases. This includes lots of Howard Stern show torrents (there is an entire category dedicated to those). If you are looking for a decent General tracker, don’t forget to check this site out.

Ozone-Torrents is more than a year old and is a pretty well established tracker in the BitTorrent scene with it’s own community. It’s not exactly a tiny site but a medium sized one compared to most other private torrent trackers – there are around 7000 members and 9600+ active torrents. Something I’ve noticed with Ozone-T is the very high number of new torrents added in a day – for example more than 125 torrents have been added today alone.

As for the content it has basically everything a General/0Day tracker should have; scene and p2p releases, packs and exclusive torrents. Ozone-T currently has close to 70 movie packs and over 330 TV season packs, some of which are shown in the screenshot below:

ozone-torrents packs

Ozone-T usually requires you to make a donation if you are to get in. However it does open free public signups from time to time (like now) so you cannot really categorize it as a pay-to-leech tracker. Anyway it’s been open for quite some time today and something tells me signups will close soon – get in while you can. Following countries are banned btw; Romania, Turkey, Pakistan, Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Call of Juarez : Bound in Blood is a western themed first person shooter (FPS) that was officially released in North America on the 30th of June. The game is published by Ubisoft and is the second game in the series with the first one being released back in 2006. I’ve managed to install and play the game and it’s definitely looks and feels better than its predecessor. It also seems to be very well optimized and compact. However, what’s even more significant than the gameplay is that Call of Juarez : Bound in Blood is completely DRM free. Nope, not even a serial check is included.

call of juarez bound in blood cover

A lot of newly released PC games come embedded with DRM software much to the dislike of legitimate users; 99% of the time the DRM gets cracked and pirates usually get to play the DRM free version while legit users are left with no choice. However Ubisoft have decided not to include any sort of DRM in Call of Juarez : Bound in Blood, just like they did for Prince of Persia 2008 and a few other recent titles. This is actually a welcome move by Ubisoft at a time when newer, more ridiculous DRM technologies are starting to emerge.

Anyhow the seemingly good gesture of no-DRM hasn’t stopped pirates from leaking the game online. Veteran scene group Razor1911 released a full DVD ISO image of the game a few hours ago on scene topsites. This release has now spread everywhere in the world from BitTorrent trackers to one click hosting services. There is no crack included in this release as there is no requirement for a one. Pirates however will not be able to play online multiplayer which requires a genuine CD-Key/serial.

By the way I’ve seen a lot of people complain about the auto aim feature of Bound in Blood which makes gameplay kinda easy. I thought this feature could be disabled from the game’s options menu – If you go to options—> Controls and in the ‘Configuration’ choose XBOX360 controller, you’ll see the option to disable auto aim. This however does not seem to have any effect in a Keyboard + Mouse setup.
