If you are interested in music editing/music authoring, here is a private BitTorrent tracker that you might find useful. ReFuX.us initially began as a new audio production tracker based on Gazelle, which specialized in audio applications, music authoring tools and music editing software. It still tracks somewhat similar content to trackers such as Audiotracer, AZT and AudioNews but expect this to change soon. Site rules have been updated recently and now any type of Windows and Mac applications (not just audio related appz) are now allowed on ReFux.us.

refux

This tracker is about 1 month old (as of 29/6/09) and during this time it’s attracted close to 850 members. Close to 300 torrents have been uploaded as well. Download speeds seem to be generally good and if the notice on homepage is correct some of the torrents are seeded using a seedbox.

As for the content on ReFuX currently the tracker is full of audio related appz. However according to new site rules all types of applications are allowed: “we accept all types of applications for windows or mac as uploads, no movies and no music!". Refer to screenshot below to get a better idea about the content available on this tracker:

refux screenshot

At the time this post is being written, ReFuX is open to the public. However the current poll on the site hints about the site going invite only pretty soon (poll question is Should we go invite only at 1000 users? to which 80% of the responses have voted ‘Yes’) so if you are interested in joining this tracker, do it now. All new users get 2 free invites upon signup.

There’s quite a lot of buzz on the web about VideoBay, the latest project launched by the crew behind world’s largest BitTorrent tracker. This post however is not about VideoBay but about another lesser known service launched by TPB crew; Slopsbox. Apparently TPB are not only capable of giving the finger to anti piracy groups but also of fighting E-mail spam too. Slopsbox is a free E-mail service which has some unique characteristics. Slopsbox addresses are disposable – you can instantly create one, use it and then forget all about it without having to worry about getting spammed.

slopsbox

How you can use Slopsbox is  explained in detail on the service’s homepage. Part of the description is quoted below:

When someone asks for your e-mail address, give them anything@slopsbox.com (or one of the other add-on domain names). You can replace "anything" with, well anything, i.e. douglas@slopsbox.com, asdfasdf@slopsbox.com or arrgh@slopsbox.com. Get the mail sent to the address you picked by entering the address in the field above and login.

Voila! There you have your spam, served cold. However, you can't get any attachments and mail is automatically deleted after 24 hours.

I’ve found Slopsbox pretty useful when signing up for unknown/random sites which require E-mail confirmation. Just provide an @slopsbox address, get the confirmation mail and forget about it. You wouldn't have to worry even if the site is used for E-mail account harvesting by spamming whackjobs.

However keep in mind that you won’t be able to (and you shouldn’t) use @slopbox addresses permanently. And be aware that anyone who knows the first part of the address will also be able to check the inbox as there is no password requirement.

In our last post we highlighted how important a service Twitter has become in this era. Although there are tons of Twitter apps for various tasks, I’ve not seen many apps that are related to BitTorrent being launched (apart from a few such as TorrentTwitter). This article will teach you how to create a Twitter account that automatically Tweets when new torrents are released on private torrent trackers. It’s not rocket science and is just a matter of bridging together two already existing services; TwitterFeed and tracker RSS.

twitterfeed

What we’re goanna do is to ‘burn’ a private tracker’s RSS feed into Twitter so that it’ll tweet whenever a new torrent is added to the tracker. Yeah it’s basically like subscribing to the RSS feed but with followers and 3rd party Twitter apps it’d be way cooler than RSS.

  1. If you don’t have a Twitter account, go to http://twitter.com/signup and create one now.
  2. Visit www.twitterfeed.com and create a new account. Login using the newly created TwitterFeed account and click on ‘go to my twitter feeds (or create a new one)’.
  3. Click on create new feed. You will be asked to fill a form.
  4. In ‘username’ and ‘password’ fields, type the same username and password used for the Twitter account you created at step 1. Paste a compatible RSS feed from private tracker into the ‘RSS feed’ field. Note: For more help on finding a compatible RSS feed, see the ‘How to find a suitable RSS feed’ section below. Set the ‘Update Frequency’ to ‘Every 30 minutes’.
  5. Now this is important – make sure you un-tick the ‘Include item link’ checkbox (See screenshot below). If you use the RSS feed of a private tracker, leaving this checkbox ticked will expose your passkey to the public - this could get you banned from the tracker.
  6. Tick the ‘Active’ checkbox to activate the feed and press the update button.
    twitterfeed config

That should do it. Your twitter account will now automatically tweet when a new torrent is released on the private tracker of your choice.

Choosing an RSS feed

Most private and public BitTorrent trackers now provide RSS updates. On private trackers these can usually be found on the links.php page (ex-http://www.sitename.com/links.php). Some sites index these under rss.php page. On Gazelle based trackers and several other bittorrent sites, you can get the URL of RSS feed by simply logging onto the site and clicking on the orange RSS icon on the browser address bar.

Feeds compatible with TwitterFeed

Some of the private tracker RSS feeds are incompatible with TwitterFeed. If you try to use an incompatible feed, TwitterFeed will return the error message similar to “We couldn't find valid date/time stamps or GUIDs on items. Please make sure your feed contains valid pubDate entries or GUIDs for each post”. In such cases, the only options is to use a feed from another tracker. Here is a list of public and private site RSS feeds that we've found to be working with TwitterFeed.

Note that some trackers offer categorized RSS feeds. Subscribing to a categorized feed is usually better (some trackers allow you to combine updates from several categories into one RSS feed). Subscribing to the entire feed will send Twitter updates for every torrent added to the tracker whether you like it or not – and we could be talking about a hundred releases per day. When you subscribe to categorized or custom feeds, make sure you choose the ‘no cookies’ version (if available).

Want to see how this works? Check out @updateserv. @updateserv is an experimental Twitter account we made some time ago which Tweets about new Game and Movie releases (based on Romanian Sharereactor’s RSS feed).

Also, don’t forget that you can follow @filenetworks on Twitter for latest BitTorrent news, leaks and more.

Although we’ve been having a Twitter account for nearly an year, it lay in an ‘abandoned’ state for the most part . What we mean by abandoned is that there was no human involvement in managing that account – it’s been Tweeting about new articles posted on FILEnetworks Blog which was entirely an automated task. However, with a huge following and a host of services based around it, Twitter has become too valuable of a service to ignore anymore. So we plan to become more involved in updating our Twitter account.

filenetworks twitter

Although not much publicity was given to it, we’ve already got a couple hundred Twitter followers which is great. Anyways if you want to get notified about BitTorrent news, private tracker updates/downtime notices, leaks, downloads, games, software and more, follow @filenetworks on Twitter! You can also send us feedback and use this as a means to contact us directly.

You can of course help us spread the word by retweeting our stories if you think they are worth a read!

Lately we’ve seen a lot of DVDR trackers being launched and onlyDVDs is the newest site to join this club. It’s a private torrent tracker that deals with untouched (non-rip) DVD5/DVD9 movies. It would be incorrect to say that onlyDVDs is a brand new tracker. It’s in fact a re-launched and re-branded version of the General/0Day tracker once known as Dreamzonept – everything from the site URL to the stylesheet has changed during re-launch and it’s now a completely different tracker than the original. At the time this post is being written, onlyDVDs is just one day old – if what we hear is correct public registrations will remain open during the first month.

onlydvd

onlyDVDs currently has over 250 registered members and close to 50 torrents. These are good statistics for a one day old tracker and the numbers were no doubt boosted by the old user base and the torrents at Dreamzonept (Dreamzonept had quite a few DVDR torrents at the time it was closed). There seems to be a steady flow of new torrents being added to onlyDVDs and it would be great if this trend continues without being limited to the first few days since launch.

As for the content available on this tracker, it’s mainly movies. Judging by the list of categories, both new/old movies as well as animation will be added. Screenshot below shows part of the torrent index of onlyDVDs:

onlydvd torrents

Like most other private BitTorrent trackers, onlyDVDs does have a bonus system where you can trade bonus points for upload credits or invites. Invites seem to be pretty cheap – you can buy 3 of them for just 20 credits (while 75 credits are required to purchase 1GB upload credit).

It’s still too early to make predictions about the success/failure of onlyDVDs since it’s so new. You can check the site out for yourself since registrations are open.

Release group RAGEMP3 quits the scene after raids

Posted by TEAM FILEnetworks | 6/27/2009 | | 6 Comments »

This news is about 3 days old but since it was never given much publicity, here goes. If you read this TorrentFreak article, you are probably aware of the recent raids conducted against well known MP3 release groups from the warez scene. Although the article only mentions DV8 , raids directly affected another popular group RAGEMP3. From what we know the leader of DV8 (who got arrested) was also the leader of RAGEMP3. And it is now confirmed that at least one of these groups has quit the scene for good. Quoted below is a SceneNotice posted by RAGEMP3:

Due to the recent events, RAGEMP3 is now officially done.  We had a long run and it was a great 10 years.  Someone made a poor decision and now a veteran group is shutting it's doors.  Thanks for everything.

- RAGEMP3 -

ps. griffen is a bitch and a fed.  So delete him from your sites.

There were a lot of rumors about RAGEMP3/DV8 leader re-selling promos on E-Bay. We don’t know if these rumors were true but there were other SceneNotices that flamed both the groups for trading music – I_Am_Very_Good_At_Trading-Look_My_Skills-(Retail)-2009-RAGEMP3 and VA-Now_Thats_What_I_Call-Obvious_Auttot_Rading-EBAY_PROMO-2009-DV8.

There will of course be another group to take RAGEMP3’s place but they really were veterans when it came to scene released MP3s. A lot of the promos and advance MP3 releases that hit the scene in the recent past were by these two groups. R.I.P.

It is currently not known of DV8 too has officially quit.

vgmTorrents is really a unique private BitTorrent tracker. It’s probably the only tracker in the world  that is completely dedicated to video game music. It’s true that sites such as LZTR have  soundtracks from games but it’s not really their specialty. vgmTorrents on the other hand is all about official soundtracks (OST) of games. Most of the game OST available on this tracker are pretty rare and not usually found on even the largest of General trackers. vgmTorrents is a new entrant to the BitTorrent scene ( launched on May 2009) but things have so far looked good for this tracker.

vgmtorrents logo

The following text which describes vgmTorrents and it’s goals is quoted from the site’s ‘About’ page:

vgmTorrents is a videogame music related private tracker. We do care about the quality and reliability of our releases, trying to offer any kind of VGM content, from soundtracks to documentaries and video interviews. Our goal is to let anybody know about videogame music, a genre which is generally overlooked, largely because most of those CDs are out of stock, or only available in Japan and Asian online stores, with high-priced shipping costs. Anyone can upload VGM stuff on vgmTorrents, though registration is required to ensure anybody does have a positive sharing ratio. You are more than welcome in the community - enjoy videogame music!

As of 27/6/2009 vgmTorrents tracks over 200 video game music torrents. Most of the audio is in lossless formats while some OST are in MP3 and AAC. Check out the following screenshot to get a better idea about the site’s content:

vgmTorrents screenshot

One of the best things about vgmTorrents is that it’s not just a torrent tracker. They have a frequently updated blog (which is the homepage), a twitter account, Last.fm page, live RSS feeds and more. At the time this post is being written, public registrations are enabled so check it out. If you are a video game music enthusiast or a collector, this tracker is a must have.

It’s been a while since we featured a huge private tracker. Yep, despite court cases and countless raids, large BitTorrent sites still exist in almost all parts of the world (Torrents.Ru, ArenaBG, RARBG, Zamunda, Partis.si to name a few). mojblink is one such huge private tracker that is based in Slovenia. Although it’s a Slovenian tracker, English releases are plentiful on mojblink. In fact almost all major scene and p2p releases can be found on this tracker. Also, there is no shortage of freeleech packs on mojblinks – some of these packs however seem to have been taken from other elite trackers.

mojblink screenshot

As mentioned in the title of this article, this is a huge tracker. As of 26/6/2009 there are over 48500 registered users and 17000+ active torrents in the database. When compared to ArenaBG and Zamunda (which do not enforce mandatory ratio requirements), mojblink has tight rules regarding ratio. Users need to maintain a upload:download ratio of 0.9 or above in order to survive on this tracker.

As for the content tracked by mojblink, there is a huge amount of English scene and p2p releases available on this tracker. It does track local Slovenian content as well. Like most other General/0Day trackers, there are plenty of freeleech packs online as well - some the packs are shown in the screenshot below:

mojblink screen

Did you notice the ending tags on torrent pack names? Tags such as –TL, ScT, TVT, TBy only means these are exclusive packs tracked by TorrentLeech, TvTorrents, SceneTorrents, TorrentBytes and other private trackers. Although ‘stealing’ exclusive packs is frowned upon in the Bittorrent community, I don’t think leechers of mojblinks would mind at all.

blink’s interface is kinda cool and has a web 2.0 look to it. However it might be a turn off for English speaking users – everything is written on Slovenian. Even so it’s fairly easy to find your way around the site even without knowing any Slovenian – most of you probably won’t use any other part of the site than the torrent index anyways.

Registrations are open and interested readers mayu create an account for free.

How to fix Overlord 2 crash at startup

Posted by TEAM FILEnetworks | 6/26/2009 | | 10 Comments »

PC version of Overlord 2, the sequel to 2007’s popular 3rd person action adventure game, was released to the public just two days ago. From what I have experienced so far it’s a pretty decent game which retains the cartoon styled ‘evil’ and humor from the original game. Overlord 2 seemingly does not contain any showstopper bugs but several people have experienced crashes when trying to launch the game. If you are one of those souls, here is something you can do to fix it.

Overlord 2 PC Cover

As you may already know most recently released games support hardware based physics acceleration (through NVIDIA PhysX and so on). Overlord 2 is no exception. In fact it seems to have developed ‘special bond’ with PhysX; the game is likely to crash on startup if latest version of NVIDIA PhysX is not installed. The strange part is that you might be required to install PhysX even if you own an ATI video card. Overlord 2 seems to require the PhysX runtime in order to function properly – it won’t give you hardware accelerated physics effects when using ATI cards or NVIDIA cards without PhysX support, but it will at least let you run the game without it crashing at launch.

Pirate Bay to file charges against Sweden?

Posted by TEAM FILEnetworks | 6/25/2009 | | 0 Comments »

Yep, you heard correctly – it’s not the other way round. Crew behind the world’s largest BitTorrent tracker is likely to file charges against their home country, Sweden for violation of human rights. The move comes shortly after Sweden’s appeals court ruled that the previous verdict against TPB was not affected by bias and a retrial was unnecessary. Further details are not known at this moment. If you were wondering where we got this piece of information, brokep (TPB admin) twittered it about an hour ago:

The Pirate Bay will now file charges against Sweden for violation for Human Rights. More info later. (The bias-judge is himself biased...)

You can follow brokep on Twitter via http://twitter.com/brokep. Regardless of what the outcome of the court case is, there’ll definitely be a lot of drama in the coming months. Anyways it’s good to see at least one BitTorrent tracker taking anti pirates head on in the courts – it’s an uphill battle but who knows, TPB might emerge victorious after all.

TVTorrents.com down, PTN set to return

Posted by TEAM FILEnetworks | 6/25/2009 | | 11 Comments »

As always, the past week has been a quite eventful one for the BitTorrent scene. New trackers were launched, several existing trackers were closed and some trackers that were down have begun to show signs of life. Through this article we hope to discuss about the recent downtime of TVTorrents.com, the return of PTN and the closure of RandomByes and SvartaKatten. And of course, if you know something we don’t, feel free to share the info by posting a comment to this article.

PTN set to return

Fans of this popular ratio free movie torrent tracker can finally heave a sigh of relief. PTN is showing signs of life after being down for several consecutive days. The tracker is already up and the site now displays the following notice:

PTN message

It’s about time folks, I’m already missing those movie packs!

R.I.P. RandomBytes and SvartaKatten

It’s never a good news when a BitTorrent tracker closes down for good. Unfortunately it happens once in a while and latest sites to join the private tracker graveyard are RandomBytes (RBy) and SvartaKatten. Both these trackers have seemingly shut down due to financial reasons (at least they were not sued). Following is quoted from RBY’s homepage:

The reason for this is, we were hit with a 680 euro bill for bandwidth usage. That is on top of the monthly server bills. All bandwidth was supposed to be inclusive. We have never begged for donations and won’t start now. Instead of moving I have decided to close. The site has become too much of a strain financially and mentally.

Part of the message displayed on SvartaKatten’s home page (translated) is also posted below:

It's been an honor to share with you.
Black Cat is hereby closed as of June 21, 2009.
It has been a very enjoyable time with much laughter, experiences and good movies! But everything has its time, and unfortunately, we had a couple of holes in the hull from the outset who did so that we finally took in too much water and sank.

If you want to know how these two trackers looked in the past, you can read our RandomBytes review through this link and SvartaKatten review can be found here. R.I.P.

TVTorrents.Com is offline

TVTorrents.com

UPDATE: Great news. TVT.COM is back online. Reason for downtime is currently unknown. Something I just noticed is that their invites system has been re-enabled after being disabled for a while (don’t know if this is a glitch).

Original Article: TVTorrents.COM, one of the largest and most popular TV torrent trackers in existence, has been unreachable for about 24 hours. To make matters worse, the site’s IRC channel (irc://irc.tvtorrents.com/tvtorrents) has been down as well. Since TVT.COM has disappeared without a warning or an explanation, it’s users should no doubt feeling a little uneasy. Although this tracker suffered from several downtimes in the recent past, they were usually pretty short and the site came back up within hours. In almost all these cases the IRC server was never disrupted. Anyway let’s hope this is not something serious – we’ll update if when get any new info.

Crack for ARMA 2 delayed by FADE DRM protection

Posted by TEAM FILEnetworks | 6/25/2009 | | 2 Comments »

ARMA 2, the highly anticipated tactical shooter from Bohemeia interactive, has finally been released to the public. Given the game’s generally positive ratings and popularity of previous games by its developer (Operation Flashpoint, ArmA : Armed Assault, to name a few), it looks like ARMA 2 will go on to become a huge hit in 2009. However if you are one of those folks looking to pirate the game, you might have to wait a little longer. ARMA 2 is protected by DRM and it’s full of triggers that makes gameplay a living hell for pirates.

ARMA 2 Cover Image

ARMA 2 is protected by FADE DRM system developed by Macrovision. Unlike most other protections, FADE won’t throw and error message upon detecting a pirated copy. It will let you play the game normally and you’ll be overjoyed at first thinking that your hack or crack to bypass the protection actually worked. However FADE will disable game features one by one, eventually making it unplayable for the pirates (remember the drunk camera in GTA4?).

This is exactly what’s happening with ARMA2. For the few pirates who actually managed to get the game running (using the leaked image or using a non English copy) FADE is proving to be a tough nut to crack. According to posts on various gaming forums, pirates are experiencing problems with aiming (inaccurate aim/unable to aim left and right), camera issues such as locked or wobbly camera, useless bullets, weak AI, difficulty issues, control issues and so on (well some of these might be actual bugs with the game – there is no way to know).

Currently there is no crack that properly disables the FADE protection. Whatever fixes that are circulating on file sharing networks are either partially working solutions or fakes. Given the time consuming task of identifying and removing FADE triggers one by one, a working crack might not surface for a while anyway.

About a month ago we featured Bibliotik – a new private torrent tracker with lots of library material such as comics, audiobooks, E-Books, novels, magazines and so on. Although invites were/are available on IRC channel, Bibliotik has not had any open signups ever since its public launch back in May 2009. So if you still have not managed to get into this tracker, here is some great news – we bring you 250 valid invite codes which can be used to create free Bibliotik accounts. There is no need to go through interviews or to provide ratio proofs/speedtest results/profile links – just grab a code from the list below.

Just as we predicted, Bibliotik recorded an impressive growth over the past month or so. It now tracks a massive collection of over 5300 torrents most of which are E-books (in .LIT, .PDF and .TXT formats). You can download fiction, non fiction and educational E-books from this tracker along with comics, magazines, audiobooks, journals and scholarly articles. Bibliotik runs on a customized version of Gazelle codebase – torrent collections based on authors/publishers/artists, tagging, advanced search and requests are just some of the notable features available on this site.

And now for the invites. In our last few giveaways, readers were asked to send a blank email to our (or tracker staff’s) E-mail address so that an invite could be mailed back. Since I am in no mood to send 250 E-mails (and no other editor would offer to do it- the lazy asses), the entire list of codes has been pasted below. Note that codes are served on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. We have a limited number of invites at our disposal so you might want to hurry.

Note: This is a FILEnetworks exclusive giveaway. We don’t mind you sharing this news with your friends at other BitTorrent forums/sites but please do not copy paste the list of invitation codes elsewhere. If you want to share the news, feel free to link to this article instead. This giveaway should be productive for both the users as well as the tracker itself – we do not want random people signing up just because they can, without even knowing what Bibliotik is about.

Your favorite coded magazine is back with another issue. The Game Scene Charts (TGSC) is a monthly electronic publication which ranks and rates best PC game release groups in the warez scene. Although only a few know of its existence, TGSC has been around for more than three years (since August 2006) and has tracked the progress of game release groups for quite some time. Since this is a coded magazine, you don’t need any special software to view it – everything you need (and even background music) is self contained within a single exe file.

TGSC May 2009

The latest issue (#31) summarizes group progress for the month of May 2009. It also includes two interviews with well known release groups POSTMORTEM and VeCTRONiX. Apart from that all the usual articles such as the monthly overview, all time overview, group release stats and many others are included in TGSC May 2009 issue. Interested readers can download the mag using the links below.

The Swedish Anti Piracy agency’s recent threats against private torrent trackers seem to have done nothing more than refresh a few existing trackers and accelerate the launch of several more. Most of the trackers that initially shut down have returned and those that could not return have given birth to spinoff sites making the Swedish tracker scene even stronger. Swepiracy, a popular General/0day tracker, was one of the very first Sweden based BitTorrrent sites to shut down following TPB’s defeat in court. However it was also one of the first trackers to come back online (along with PirateTorrents) and it looks like Swepiracy is trying to become even stronger – public registrations have been opened.

Swepiracy

As mentioned earlier Swepiracy is a General/0Day tracker. It does track all kinds of torrents including games and appz but a lot of focus has been given to scene DVDR releases. In fact, a large percentage of indexed torrents in this tracker are scene releases and this includes some torrents specific to Swedish/Nordic regions. Majority of the indexed content however is in English.

Swepiracy Screenshot

Swepiracy is by no means a small tracker. With close to 15000 members and 2000+ torrents it’s a pretty decent General/0-day site. Currently it’s user limit set to 15000 and tracker staff seem to be pruning a lot of inactive accounts at the moment. As mentioned earlier registrations are currently open and there is room for at least 80 people at the time this post is being written (if more accounts are pruned it could be a lot more than 80 free slots) .

Most of us don’t give a damn about duplicate files present in our hard drivers but the truth is that they could eat a lot of disk space. Extra copies of existing files are always created by the operating system as well as application programs even though the user is unaware of it. You computer could really get cluttered with junk if this process continues for some time. Most of the time, extra copies of the files can be safely deleted. But how do you detect them? This is where the ‘Fast Duplicate File Finder’ comes in. It’s a free software that is designed with one goal in mind – find extra copies.

The app is actually pretty easy to use. All you have to do is to launch the program, start a new project and add a folder (or an entire drive) to be scanned. In a few seconds a complete list of duplicate files found on the target location will be displayed. You can delete unnecessary files right from this view itself. The program itself is pretty lightweight and is only around 1.6MB in file size. It does not add any startup entries or services to the system and will not consume half your computer’s resources.

fast duplicate file finder

When the scan process is finished the program shows you all duplicate files in groups and can automatically mark the older files for deletion. The auto mark algorithm has advanced settings to exclude from auto mark files with user specified extensions, file sizes, file dates and file names. You can also set which folders you want to exclude from the auto mark. There is an option to protect system files and folders which is recommended to be turned on.

Although we talk about private torrent trackers every day, a considerable number of our readers still use public BitTorrent sites. Torrent indexes with general content such as as Mininova, Demonoid and the The Pirate Bay are hugely popular but did you know that there are specialized public trackers that focus on a single torrent category rather than ‘general content’? Few examples are MVGroup (for documentaries), EZTV (for TV series) and SuperFundo (for movies). This post is about another similar public BitTorrent site; XTVi. XTVi’s specialty is TV torrents – it lists hundreds of TV shows from the UK and the US.

xtvi

With an Alexa rank of ~14600, one can assume that XTVi has a very large user base. It’s a huge site when it comes to content too – there are over 100 different TV shows currently indexed. Unlike private trackers or some public sites such as TPB, XTVi does not maintain it’s own BitTorrent tracker. It however does host .torrent files but the actual tracking is done by external trackers.

One of the best features of this site is the hundreds of customized RSS feeds it provides – basically there is a separate RSS feed for every show indexed on XTVi. If you automate the downloading of favorite TV shows based on RSS feeds, this site should definitely be of use to you. XTVi’s RSS feeds are compatible with applications such as Miro and TED (Torrent Episode Downloader) and it actually is a good alternative for now defunct FeedMyTorrents. Screenshot below captures part of XTVi’s torrent index (notice the RSS icon next to each show):

XTVi tv torrents

Another great thing about XTVi is that there are no fakes - a common problem associated with public torrent sites. All torrents on this site are verified and you can start the download without thinking twice.

Speaking of XTVi’s layout and interface, it’s torrent index is well organized. A small section on the homepage lists torrents of most recently aired TV episodes. Most popular torrents and latest additions to XTVi’s database are also shown. Users can search for specific TV series using the Search feature. Be warned that there are a lot of ads on this site (nothing harmful though).

As mentioned earlier XTVi is a public torrent index. There are no ratio rules and not even a mandatory registration requirement. You can check it out whenever you like.

We’ve been talking about lots and lots of private torrent trackers as of late but this post is an exception. ‘Classic Nick Shows’ is a private DDL (Direct Download Link) forum for sharing popular Nickelodeon cartoons. It’s a community driven site where individual episodes as well as complete season packs of popular Nick shows can be found. Although the site’s name contains the word ‘Classic’, it’s not only older Nickelodeon shows you can find on this site – download links to both old and new series are available. If you love Nick shows or have a kid who loves em, you might find this site useful.

classic nick shows logo

For the unregistered user, Classic Nick Shows (CNS) will look just like any other forum dedicated purely for the discussion of Nickelodeon Shows. This of course is not what CNS is entirely about. Once you register on the site and log in, a whole new section in the forums opens up – the ‘Downloads’ category. This is where you can find one click hosting (RapidShare, MediaFire, Megaupload, etc) links to Nick toons. Cartoons, live action series, made for TV movies, DVD releases and lots of other goodies are available in the downloads section.

Classic nick toons downloads section

With just over 4200 registered users and an Alexa rank of ~350000, Classic Nick Shows is somewhat of a lesser known forum. However that does not mean it’s dead – links to new shows are posted daily and the forums are pretty active.

As of 21/6/2009, public registrations for Classic Nick Shows is open. If you are interested, you can create a free account and check the site out. It’s a must have for any Nick fan out there.

Kaspersky Labs released 2010 versions (v9.0) of their Anti Virus (KAV) and Internet Security (KIS) products just a few days ago. Since I’ve never used KIS, I’d rather not comment about the product here. KAV on the other hand has been watching my back for the past year or so and has done an excellent job at defending my computer against all sorts of malware on and off the net. Kaspersky Anti Virus 2010 comes with major new features such as an IM Anti-Virus, a revamped user interface, privacy cleaner and lots of enhancements to existing features. And if you were a pirate who used to activate Kaspersky using .KEY files found on warez sites, you’ll be in for a little shock as well.

kaspersky anti virus 2010 screenshot

I’m not really sure but it seems the developers managed to seriously optimize the memory resident scanner module of KAV (avp.exe). It used to take around 24MB of physical memory with KAV 8.0 (version 2009) and now it takes only around 12MB most of the time ( sometimes the memory consumptions goes as low as 5MB ). Anyways I might be wrong as this claim is not based on any long term observations - I’ve only used this app for around 15 mins by the time this post is being written.

What about pirates?

It is no secret that Kaspersky, being one of the most popular security product in the world, is heavily pirated (after the trial period expires the application continues to function – however new definition updates are not received). There are no cracks or cracked versions of the product itself but pirated serial keys can be found almost anywhere on the net. Hell, there are even automated key finders as well as sites with daily updated keys. Up until now, the primary method pirates used to activate this product is to open the license section of the app, choose ‘activate using the .key file option’ and then point to the pirated key file downloaded from the internet.

Here is a shocker – version 2010 does not have the ‘Activate Using Key File’ option. When you launch the License Manager in KAV 2010, you will either be asked to ‘purchase new license’ or ‘activate new license' – both of which will NOT prompt for a key file. So is this truly the end for ‘key file pirates’? Not really. If you disconnect from the internet, delete the trial license and then try to use the ‘activate trial license’ option again the program will try to connect to internet and fail. Upon failure, it’ll give the good old ‘activate using key file’ option where pirates can use even a KAV 8 key to illegally activate the application.

Download

We’ve provided direct download links below for the TRIAL version of Kaspersky Anti Virus 2010 Final build – no E-mail registration is required.

If you are one of our readers from Sri Lanka, you can actually purchase a genuine version of KIS with a one year subscription for as low as LKR 1800 (that’s around $16). You don’t even have to go to the dealer to make the purchase as it’s available in most IT related shops in the country. This way there would be no messing about with blacklisted keys for at least an year :) (Thanks to ‘leyland’ for the info)

Note: Do not post links to key files, key finders or anything of that sort here. This post is purely for informational purposes.

It’s great news when a private torrent tracker that has only had open signups twice in two years opens it’s doors to the public. It’s even better news when the said tracker is one of the best BitTorrent sites around. Romanian ShareReactor, an excellent general tracker with movies, music, games, E-books, music videos, imagesets, documentaries, TV shows and more, has increased the site’s user limit by 1500 slots and have opened registration for new members. With good pre times, great download speeds and it’s own internal p2p release group, RsR is indeed one of the best General trackers currently in existence.

Romanian ShareReactor

Since the word ‘Romanian’ is in the tracker name itself, one might think that this is a site with releases local to Romania. Well it definitely is not. RsR’s layout is completely in English and so are most of the releases. Apart from a few DVDRs that come with optional Romanian subtitles, torrents indexed are major scene and p2p releases which are in English. The only thing totally ‘Romanian’ about this tracker is probably their forums (which most of you won’t even use anyways).

RsR is not a new tracker by any means. Launched back in 2005, it’s one of the older private BitTorrent sites around. As of 20/6/2009, it has close to 5000 registered members and tracks over 6600 active torrents. The relatively low member count (when compared to other General/0-Day trackers) can probably be explained by the lack of open signups. RsR has had only two open signups in the last two years – one in January 2007 and another in November 2008.

Speaking of the content on RSR, it has everything a General tracker should have and then some more. RsR is home to the well known p2p release group iAPULA – expect to find a lot of their releases on this tracker ranging from individual movies, music to torrent packs. The following screenshot captures some of the packs found on this tracker:

RSR screenshot

RSR profile

RSR has a quite uncommon site layout which is easy to navigate. Torrent pages/search is easily accessible and a small section on the top right corner of the page give you access to all your personal settings and downloading habits on the tracker. As mentioned earlier the interface is completely in English.

Anyways if you were begging for RsR invites on BitTorrent forums – it’s time to close those threads. RSR is currently open for signup and you can get in without an invite code. At the time of this post there is space for over 1400 users. Check it out.

Ghostbusters the video game (2009) was released to the public on the 16th of this month. I’ve only had the chance to play the game for about half and hour and actually it’s been pretty fun so far. At least it does not totally blow like most of the movie based games out there. Although I have not hard any problems with the game so far, quite a few other folks on the interwebz have seemingly run into some. One of the common issues seem to be random, intermittent stuttering or slowdowns even on high end hardware. In addition, some users have reported about insane difficulty levels with almost un-killable enemies.

ghostbuster video game cover

I’ve seen posts on various gaming forums by users with even high end video card such as Geforce GTX 260 reporting about slow gameplay performance, sudden framerate drops and stuttering. Well I have not been able to pinpoint an specific cause for this but here is possible solution. Most such slowdowns seem to be occurring in Windows XP – if you have a Windows 7 installation try running the game from there. Users have reported smooth gameplay performance in Windows 7 while they had FPS drops in Windows XP.

Something else you can try is to disable the FPS lock. By default, the maximum refresh rate of the game is set to 60FPS. This can sometimes cause issues – if you are having trouble with low FPS even on relatively high end hardware (8800, GeForce GTX, etc), try disabling the FPS lock from in game options menu. Also, if you are using am NVIDIA display adapter, try disabling PhysX from the NVIDIA control panel.

Another one of the most common issues with the game seem to be un-killable or god like enemies. Some have reported about the game’s enemies being insanely hard to kill. If you are facing this issue then you are most likely using a pirated or cracked copy of Ghostbusters. Well this game is published by ATARI and you can trust them to include a crazy ass protection to fuc* up pirates for good (remember Alone In The Dark? ). Currently there are two cracked versions of the game floating around – one by scene group RELOADED and the other by ViTALiTY. RELOADED’s release is a Steam rip with a cracked exe with steam protection removed – the Steam version did not have SecuROM in the first place. ViTALiTY’s release on the other hand is a retail ISO which is protected by SecuROM DRM. Their NFO claims:

RELOADED took a SecuROM free executable from Steam and used it for crack. Their executable has a different build of gamecode and is not fully compatible with the retailiso release. We cracked the SecuROM protection from the retail disk version. We won fair and squire like RAZOR1911 did on The Sims 3. Try not to be a bad loser this time RELOADED.

Although ViTALiTY claims to have cracked SecuROM, they probably failed to remove at least one trigger. When this trigger is activated, the enemies become un-killable and gameplay experience becomes a nightmare for pirates.

This post is not really an update on private torrent tracker open signups. It’s rather a relatively short news update on three well known torrent sites; PTN, GFT and SceneRace. We’ve been getting a lot of mails asking what’s up with these trackers as of late and hopefully this post should answer at least a few of your questions. Well the info we have is not entirely ‘good news’ but it could have been a lot worse ; PTN has been experiencing hosting problems, SceneRace is locating their servers in another country and GFT has lost the entire torrent index.

PTN

The popular ratio free movie tracker PTN has been down for several days. The site does not display any messages but simply times out when trying to establish a connection. The reason for this is that they are having hosting problems. Here is what ‘Rodin’ (PTN community rep)  posted on TPS forums:  “we have some host problems and we are trying to resolve them asap”. So it’s not just you that’s having trouble accessing the tracker. However, knowing that this is just a temporary downtime should be comforting for most PTN members.

SceneRace
scenerace
SceneRace (ScR), a ratioless General/0Day tracker based on Gazelle codebase, seems to have just completed a server move. Guess which country they moved to? Sweden. With all the recent Swedish private tracker shutdowns after TPB trial, one would think Sweden’s role as a safe heaven for BitTorrent trackers was over. However this does not seem to be the case – not according to SCR admins anyways.

You are getting this message because you are a member at SceneRace.net
Over the next hour or so we will be moving the site over to our new server in Sweden, so you may experience up to 48 hours of down time (maybe longer if your ISP sucks)
ScR isn't gone or anything, we're just moving
FYI we chose sweden because the laws are still safe for trackers, even if certain court cases say otherwise...
-The SceneRace.net Team

Let’s hope SCR has a long stay in their new home.

GFT
GFT tracker
Out of the three trackers mentioned in the article, GFT probably suffered the worst – they seem to have lost their entire torrent index. When I logged into the site about a day ago, there were only two torrents being tracked. This was pretty odd because the lat time I checked GFT tracked over 5000 torrents. The following site notices explain what happened:

16.06.2009 - Someone broke the Site

All torrents except for today have been deleted, u are safe to remove them from your client without getting a HnR warning

16.06.2009 - Restoring Old Torrents

If any users still have the old .torrent files for stuff they previously were seeding...
Feel free to upload these .torrent files to the site.
Any users who still may have these old torrents seeding in their client will still be marked as seeding these files once they are again uploaded to the site.
These files being re-uploaded to the site will allow us to rebuild our archives of older content so long as people still have them in their clients.

This probably won’t matter because GFT is not a good tracker to download relatively old releases anyways – it’s best known for kick ass pre times. Their pre times do not seem to have suffered and new releases are being indexed as usual. Good enough for me.

In other news, MP3 music tracker SceneSound has seemingly re-enabled country bans after lifting them only two days ago.

It’s been a while since we covered a sports tracker (last featured sports sites being T3nnis.TV and ExtremeBits). Although we hear about General/0Day trackers opening up all the time, dedicated sports tracker launches are pretty rare. However today we are going to talk about Total Sports, the newest addition to the sports tracker scene dominated by giants such as Sportbit and Sport-Scene. Unlike many other similar trackers recently featured on FILEnetworks Blog, Total Sports does not focus on a specific sport – it tracks a wide variety of sporting events related to a number of different sports. In short, it’s a ‘general’ tracker for sports fans.

Total Sports Tracker

Total-Sports is a brand new torrent site which is only a day old. Following notice about the launch is posted on site homepage:

Jun-17-09 - Welcome To Total-Sports!

I would like to welcome you all to a new Dedicated Sports torrent site. I know some members at XWT have been waiting quite a while for this site to open, sorry for the delay and yes we allow boxing here too.
There is currently a Free Leech on ALL torrents until July 1st. So this should give you all a good chance at getting a positive ratio.
As we are always looking for Dedicated Uploaders and Cappers, so if you are interested in helping out please send me a PM.

Since this site is so new, not much can be predicted about its future right now. However 25+ torrents have been added on the first day itself and the total number of registered users on this tracker has already exceeded 700. The start definitely looks promising.

As we mentioned earlier, a number of different sports are covered on Total-Sports tracker. This includes Cricket, Baseball, BasketBall, Boxing, F1, Golf, Hockey, Football, Motorsports, Olympics, Surf, Tennis, US Football and X Games. The following screenshot shows part of the torrent index:

Total Sports Torrent Index

And by the way, kudos to whoever decided to index Cricket torrents – not even major sports trackers cover this stuff ( it might not be a hit in the U.S. but Cricket is hugely popular in countries such as Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, England, Australia, etc).

Coming back to site features, Total-Sports tracker has a pretty decent layout. It’s not based on Gazelle but the interface is clean and easy to navigate. Something I’ve noticed is that this tracker does not have a requests section or a seed bonus system – not yet anyways.

As of 18/6/2009, Total-Sports is open for registration. Since the site is new, you can expect the doors to stay open for a while. Anyways if you are a sports fan, check it out.

SvartaKatten, a Swedish private torrent tracker that is usually closed for registration, has opened its doors for 1000 new members. This is a General/0day torrent site with both Swedish and English releases. Even though we say it’s general tracker, SvartaKatten mainly focuses on movie, TV and music torrents. It’s one of those trackers with multiple browse pages – one page lists movies, TV and HD video while a separate browse page indexes music torrents. Even non Swedish readers might find the site useful because there is a significant amount of English torrents indexed including several dozen ‘ exclusive packs’.

SvartaKatten

SvartaKatten (which i believe has something to do with cats when translated to Swedish) is a pretty well established general tracker with over 8500 members and 2000+ torrents. Torrent index is divided into three sections - one for TV/movie releases (~1200 torrents), one for music releases (450+ torrents) and another for fulfilled requests (50+ torrents).

When it comes to General/0day trackers, the number of ‘exclusive packs’ indexed plays a pretty big role. Since most of the individual scene/p2p releases can be found elsewhere, packs bring some sort of uniqueness to BitTorrent sites. SvartaKatten is not short on such packs; it’s ‘SK-Packs’ category already contains close to 150 torrents, most of which are on free leech and pretty well seeded.

SvartaKatten packs

Note that some of the indexed torrents on this tracker are Swedish releases. Site layout too is in Swedish but it’s not hard to find your way around even if you didn’t know the language.

SvartaKatten is usually closed for registrations but signups have been opened to recruit 1000 more members. At the time this post is being written, there are around 500 spots available (you might want to hurry because they seem to get filled pretty quickly).

When you say ‘Stroke It’ the first thing that comes to mind is not a piece of software :D. However this post is about a really cool application that lets you control Windows programs through the use of unique mouse gestures. Say for example you want to change the volume level of a media player – with StrokeIt around, you wouldn’t have to find the volume slider, click and drag it in the application. Instead, you can ‘train’ the program to recognize a mouse gesture. All you have to do is to hold the right mouse button and draw the mouse gesture (previously trained) to increase the volume.

strokeit mouse gesture

It’s not easy to explain this program’s functionality in a blog post such as this. You’ve got to try it out for yourself to experience it’s ‘awesomeness’.

Developer Description

StrokeIt is an advanced mouse gesture recognition engine and command processor. What is a mouse gesture? Mouse gestures are simple symbols that you "draw" on your screen using your mouse. When you perform a mouse gesture that StrokeIt can recognize, it will perform the "action" associated with that gesture. In short, it's a nifty little program that lets you easily control programs by drawing symbols with your mouse.

StrokeIt can currently recognize more than 80 unique mouse gestures and can be easily trained to recognize many more. For each gesture recognized, StrokeIt can execute a user-defined set of commands within the active application. StrokeIt commands are defined within plugin libraries that can be easily created by third parties to do nearly anything.

Ratio free private trackers were once a rarity in the BitTorrent scene – however this has now changed. New no-ratio trackers such as GFT, PTN, SceneLive, SceneRace and many others have been launched recently and there will definitely be lots more to come. This article is about InspireThe.Net (better known as iTN), a brand new General/0Day tracker which does not have a ratio system. iTN is a BitTorrent site with Polish origins – it’s content however is mainly English (Scene/P2P releases). InspireThe.Net has only been around for two months but so far things have looked very positive for this tracker.

itn tracker

iTN has added over 800 torrents in the relatively short period of time they’ve been online. The autoupload bot they use should no doubt have helped achieve this feat (similar bots are used by most zero day trackers including SCC, GFT, SCR and many others). As of 15/6/2009, there are over 600+ registered members on this tracker. The user base seems to be pretty active – there aren’t many ‘1 seeder torrents’ on iTN (which are otherwise commonly found on new private trackers) and it definitely is not a ghost town.

As for the content, this is a General/0Day tracker. Do not expect to find any niche content here other than major scene and p2p releases. iTN however has a growing collection of ‘Internal Releases’ and Packs which include torrents unique to this tracker.

iTN screenshot

As we mentioned earlier iTN does not have a ratio system. Instead, it’s based on a credits system that is somewhat similar to that used by the popular TV tracker tvtorrents.com. Credits are deducted from your account when you download torrents and are added when you seed back downloaded files. Well here is the cool part – you can do a lot more with iTN credits other than just download torrents. ‘The Shop’ is the central location where you can trade in credits to access additional site features and enhancements. You can even permanently increase the rate which credits are added to your account by purchasing a multiplier (2X multiplier costs 40 credits while 3X costs 60 credits). It is also possible to trade in your earned credits for an invitation – an invite will cost you 100 credits.

Note: iTN is currently having problems with the domain http://inspirethe.net. You can however access the site using its IP http://94.23.74.23. Following is quoted from site homepage:

Jun-13-09 - Domain problem

Our polish ISP refued us inspirethe.net domain, so we should get used to use IP adress 94.23.74.23. Update tracker adress in your clients and tell it to your friends please. Sorry for all inconvenience. I hope we get back to our domain soon or replace it with new one.
Regards
krzys

How to get invited to iTN

InspireThe.Net is closed for public registration and the only way in is via an invite. Good news is that an unlimited number of invitations are available on IRC. Users will have to go through a short interview before getting invited. The interview is pretty short - there are only 10 questions and you will be asked to provide screenshots of two private trackers that you are already a member of. Invites channel details are given below:

Server: irc.pila.pl
Channel Name: #get.inspired
Port: 7000
Direct Link: irc://irc.pila.pl:7000/get.inspired
IRC Noob? : Read this first.

Once you join the invites channel you will receive the questions in PM (private message). You should number your answers and send them to the user name mentioned in channel topic, also via PM. Wait till you get a response from iTN staff. Note that you might have to wait for a while since there may be times when all channel ops are away.

SceneSound tracker country bans lifted

Posted by TEAM FILEnetworks | 6/16/2009 | | 3 Comments »

It’s pretty normal for BitTorrent trackers to ban entire countries these days. Many popular trackers such as SCC and BitMeTV usually have 2-3 countries in their ‘ban list’. Excessive cheating, scamming and account trading by users in a particular country is usually given as the primary reason for such mass bans. While it’s normal for torrent sites to ban 2-3 countries from accessing site/tracker (even that after careful consideration), have you ever heard of a tracker banning 24 countries all at once? Well SceneSound (if you don’t know about SceneSound, read this) did it earlier but the good news is that tracker staff have seemingly reversed this decision.

The following countries were initially banned from SceneSound:

  • Za – South Africa
  • Ch – Switzerland
  • Ie – Ireland
  • Ar - Argentina
  • Mx – Mexico
  • Hu – Hungary
  • Tr – Turkey
  • It - Italy
  • Pl - Poland
  • Il – Israel
  • Ro – Romania
  • Nz – New Zealand
  • Sk - Slovakia
  • Sg - Singapore
  • Cn - China
  • Ru - Russia
  • Rs - Serbia
  • De - Germany
  • Gr - Greece
  • Es - Spain
  • Ec - Ecuador
  • br - Brazil
  • pt – Portugal

If you are a reader from any of the countries above and could not register the last time SceneSound opened signups, today is your lucky day. The country bans have been lifted and signups have been re-opened. Go nuts!

By the way, SceneSound has enjoyed continuous rapid growth of the user base as well as the torrent index ever since it’s launch. It now tracks over 5700 torrents and has an active user base of 4100+ members (and this tracker is only around two weeks old!).

First of all let me tell you that this is a pretty old application (released mid 2008). Most of you probably already know about Unlocker but I’m posting it here since it’s a must have utility for every Windows user. How many times have you come across one of those annoying error messages such as ‘file cannot be deleted since it’s still in use by an application’ or ‘cannot delete folder : it’s being used by another person or program’, when trying to remove an unwanted file or a folder from your system. With Unlocker, you no longer have to cope with such errors. Unlocker is a small software capable of identifying and terminating processes that have locks on files.

unlocker scnreenshot

After a series of articles about new private torrent trackers, we return to an ‘old school’ site. Acid or A-L is a well established General/0-Day private BitTorrent site that is over 4 years old. It tracks both new and old movies, music, games, E-books, appz and other torrents released by scene and p2p groups. Acid is a tracker that does not prefer much publicity – posting of full tracker URL/name in public is prohibited by site rules. However, if you are looking forward to get into this tracker, keep reading – there are two ways you can get invited for free.

Acid

While Acid is a great general/0day torrent tracker in its own right, the tight knit community of helpful members is probably it’s strongest aspect. Speaking about community trackers’,  one of the most common problems associated such sites is the small user base leading to low seeder/leecher activity on torrents. This is not much of a problem on AL – it’s one of the largest community trackers around with over 14000 registered members. As of 14/6/2009, there are over 5000 active torrents indexed on the tracker.

As for the content on Acid, almost all major scene and p2p releases are tracked. In addition to torrents that can be found on almost all other General/0Day trackers, AL has quite a few exclusive, internal releases. Such torrents can usually be identified by the tags ‘TeamAcid’, ‘RequestAcid’, ‘Acid’, ‘ACID INT’, etc. The following screenshot shows some of the internal releases found in AL’s torrent index:

acid internal releases

Apart from the usual features on private torrent tracker Acid has several extras such as an arcade, live DJs and a Jukebox. A high res screenshot highlighting all major features of Acid can be found here.

How to get a free invite

You can obtain an invite to this tracker using any one (but not both) of the methods below:

  1. Send an E-mail with the subject ‘Acid Invite’ to acidinviter@gmail.com. Be sure to include two screenshots of at least two private torrent trackers that you are already a member of.
    OR
  2. Login to Acid invites IRC channel and request an invite there. Invite channel details are as follows:
    Server: irc.pron.org.uk
    Channel: #acid-invites
    Direct Link: irc://irc.pron.org.uk/acid-invites
Note: You need to register your nickname on the IRC server before you can join the channel.
Type /ns register password email in mIRC console (once connected to the server) and hit enter to register your nick - replace password and email with your own details. Then type /join #acid-invites to join the channel.
If you are an IRC noob, read this article.

Please do not apply for an invite if you do not plan on actually using the account.

Good Luck!

Special thanks to methods, MuddSlinger, FlameRX, cambo, savvyboy, vibes and other AL staff for hooking up FILEnetworks Blog with Acid invites.

In February 2009, we introduced to our readers a new private movie torrent tracker named 700MBz. It’s been over four months since the site’s launch and in the meantime lots of things have changed– it’s time for an updated article. For those of you who missed our previous post, 700M.Bz is a movie tracker which only tracks 700MB and 1.4GB XViD rips – you won’t find any DVDR releases or HD content here. Scene releases as well as a lot of user uploaded movies are indexed on this tracker. 700MBz is based on the Gazelle codebase – a BitTorrent tracker script pioneered by What.CD.

700m.bz

There is no doubt that 700MBz has grown in the past few months. The site’s user base which comprised only of ~100 members when we first reviewed it has grown to an impressive 3400+ registered users. Torrent index too has expanded from around 150 movies to nearly 650 movies (as of June 2009 ). Something I would like to see on this tracker is the introduction of ‘packs’– currently there are no movie packs indexed other than individual torrents.

700mbz

Earlier on 700MBz received a lot of criticism regarding it’s Gazelle implementation - initial version was an out of the box, un-customized version of Gazelle which looked exactly like the layout of What.CD. However during the past four months 5 additional custom stylesheets have been introduced (styles can be switched through your profile page).

Even though it’s a few months old, this is still a young tracker.  Like most new trackers, 700MBz is somewhat lacking in user activity. The good thing however is that the the SysOp seems to be aware of it  and several measures have been taken to encourage more activity. Registrations have been re-opened to increase the number of users and free leech has been enabled on all new torrents for 24 hours to increase activity of existing members. The new ‘24 hour’ free leech rule is pretty interesting – if you download a movie within 24 hours since it was added to the tracker, only the amount you uploaded will be recorded by the site – a great way to build and maintain ratio.

As mentioned above 700MBz registrations will be open till the site reaches max user limit (which is 7500 – there are around 4000 more spots available). Each new user gets 1.4GB free upload credit as well as two free invitations to the tracker. If you are interested, check it out.

QuickTime is one of the most used video formats in modern day. As you probably already know, the official player for QuickTime files is ‘Apple QuickTime Player’. Personally, I do not like QuickTimer Player at all – it takes a hell of a time to load, adds startup entries, rapes the registry and consumes a lot of system resources. How cool would it be if you could play QuickTime files in your favorite media player, such as in Media Player Classic? With ‘QuickTime Alternative’, this (and more) is possible. If you consider Apple’s Quicktime Player a piece of bloatware, you might find this post useful.

Quicktime Alternative Screenshot

QuickTime Alternative is basically a free codec package that allows decoding of QuickTime formats. It even includes a browser plugin and the ability to play special QuickTime formats as well. On a side note, here is an interesting user comment I came across on FileForum about this codec pack:

God's Gift to those who require Apple codecs but refuse to pollute their machines with Apple filth.

Anyways here is a list of features and supported formats for QuickTime Alternative:

Some advantages compared to QuickTime player :

  • Quick and easy install
  • It's easy to make an unattended installation
  • No background processes
  • Use a player of your own choice
  • Low on resources
  • Smaller size

Features of QuickTime Alternative 2.9.0 :

  • -Media Player Classic [version 6.4.9.1 rev 100]: this is a full-featured player which has internal decoding support for DVD, MPEG-2, MP3, MP2, AAC, AC3 and DTS. It also has internal support for opening Matroska and Ogg containers. Media Player Classic is also capable of playing QuickTime and RealMedia content if those codecs are installed.
  • QuickTime Codecs [version 7.62.14.0]: required for playing QuickTime content.
  • QuickTime DirectShow filter: allows you to play QuickTime content in all DirectShow enabled players. Without this filter QuickTime content can only be played in Media Player Classic.
  • QuickTime plugin for Internet Explorer: allows you to view QuickTime content that is embedded in a webpage. It is installed together with the QuickTime codecs.
  • QuickTime plugin for Opera/Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape/Google Chrome: allows you to view QuickTime content that is embedded in a webpage.
  • Extra plugins for QuickTime: plugins for viewing some special formats that are sometimes used on webpages.
  • CoreAVC: is an external filter for Media Player classic
  • CoreAAC: is an AAC DirectShow filter decoder based on FAAD2.

There is also a Lite version of the codecc pack which does not come with Media Player Classic.

Something we’ve learned from our recent posts about private trackers is that you can never have enough HD trackers. No matter how many specialized HD sites we post about, such articles always seem to get a lot of hits than others. Guess we have a lot of High-Def fans among us. Anyway this article is about another new and promising HD tracker – Ace-HD. Ace-HD is the sister site of popular General/0Day torrent tracker AceTorrents (Signups Open). Movies, TV shows and even documentaries in high definition formats can be found on this site.

Ace-HD tracker

Launched on the 5th of June, Ace-HD is only a few days old. The following welcome message is posted on the site:

Welcome to Ace-HD, a brand new torrent site, dedicated to high definition downloads.
Our uploaders so far have kindly provided a starting base of around 100 torrents, but we are currently looking for new uploaders that can provide both scene and non scene high definition content. If you think this is you and you have a high speed connection in which you can seed from, please contact a member of staff. Unfortunately we are only accepting applications from people who have 5Mbit upload speed minimum as most content is fairly large and we want to offer the best speeds possible.
We hope you enjoy the site and feel free to use our forums - you can also provide us with some feedback via the forums.
Last but not least, please let your friends know about us and help our site grow into one of the best HD sites out there .
Site is Freeleech

In fact there are now over 200 HD torrents indexed on Ace-HD. Membership count has also surpassed 450 members. These are pretty good statistics for a one week old private tracker (no doubt they had a lot of help from the big brother AceTorrents).

Speaking about the content on Ace-HD, there are movies, TV shows, music videos, documentaries and even adult content online - both scene and non scene releases. All of these are in high definition formats (720p and 1080p - x264 encodes mostly). There are individual torrents as well as several exclusive packs. Separate categories for both movie and TV packs possibly means that we could expect a lot of unique torrent collections from Ace-HD in the near future.

ace-hd torrents

As you can probably see from the above screenshot, Ace-HD’s interface is pretty decent. Category icons are beautiful, the layout is clean and very much navigable and of course, there are about 7 color schemes to choose from.

Registrations for Ace-HD is currently open. All new members get 5GB free upload credit and don’t forget that the entire site is on free leech right now.

Scene NukeWars : Funniest nuke reasons ever

Posted by TEAM FILEnetworks | 6/12/2009 | | 9 Comments »

One of the best things about the warez scene is it’s adherence to a tight set of rules & regulations. These ‘scene rules’ ensures the quality of releases & helps keep the scene more organized. When a release is not in accordance with rules, it can be made invalid. This is calling ‘nuking’. A nuke based on non existent rules or made up reasons can be undone – this is called and un-nuke. If the same release is getting nuked and un-nuked multiple times, it’s referred to as a Nukewar. When a release is nuked or un nuked, reason for the action is usually mentioned along with the nuke announcement. This post captures some of the funniest nuke reasons associated with scene releases over the past couple of years.

Nuke reasons are highlighted in bold.

While some of the above actually came from within the scene, some (such as NukeWar 05) may have come from p2p oriented pre databases/sources. Anyways the above list goes on to show how much e-drama can sometimes be associated with a pirated release.

Credits: Note that I found all of the above on a thread on SCL (well there were other places with the same stuff but the SCL thread was the most complete and the oldest so I guess it’s the original source). Anyways full credit to original poster – i wouldn't have been able to find these even if i stared at pre channels non stop for the past two years.

Strange TTi signup page?

Posted by TEAM FILEnetworks | 6/12/2009 | | 1 Comments »

First of all do not be mistaken that TTi is open for signup – it is not. However I noticed something funny happening with their signup page. I had check4change setup to alert if any changes were made to tti.nu/signup.php and it did indeed alert me about content on the page changing. It was however not an open signup as I hoped it would be. Instead of the usual signup closed message you get on most private trackers, the following mysterious string was displayed on TTi’s page; 4dd77ecaf88620f5da8967bbd91d9506.

TTi

I couldn’t figure out what it was until someone on IRC said it was an MD5 hash value. Decrypting the hash using http://www.md5decrypter.com/ showed some pretty interesting results:

md5 decoded tti

It’s probably the site’s coders having a little fun.

We know for a fact that there are a lot of classic/obscure movie fans among FILEnetworks Blog readers. However only a handful BitTorrent trackers specializing in this niche such as Cinematik, Cinemageddon and Classic Cinema Zone have been featured here before. Good news is that today we are going to talk about another classic movie/TV tracker; I Love Classics (ILC). I Love Classics is only about two weeks old and is still a very young private torrent site. The start however has been a good one so far – lots of new torrents have been added and if the trend continues, ILC will definitely have a good future in the BitTorrent scene.

i love classics

Currently there are over 500 active torrents indexed and tracked on I Love Classics. Around 30 new torrents seem to be added every day. ILC however needs more users – there are only around 250 registered users and lots of torrents are left with 1 seeder (the original uploader) as a consequence. Hopefully the open signup period will attract some more users as it will definitely help the tracker survive in the long run.

As for the content, this site tracks both movies and TV. Apart from classic movies related to various genres such as comedy, western, thriller, etc, some old TV shows such as Space Patrol, Land of the Lost, etc can also be found. Although there are plenty of movies indexed, the TV shows selection on ILC is somewhat limited (nowhere near that of TV-Vault). However don’t forget that this is a new tracker – all well established trackers usually start small.  The following screenshot displays part of the torrent index on ILC:

i love classics screenshot

Notice the little F icon next to a torrent name? (see screenshot) That means the torrent is on free leech. ILC is on global free leech till the 1st of July so you can download your ass off here.

I Love Classics is currently open for registration. All new users get 1 free invitation. We do not know how long the signups will stay open so get in when you can.

Yesterday we reported about how Prototype (PC) was leaked online. I managed to get hold of a copy of the game and from my experience it was good game overall. The gameplay was extremely fun with lots of cool abilities, blood, gore and violence :P. However I believe the graphics could have been a little better. Most of the building and city textures look dated but model detail was pretty good. Anyway the aim of this article is to discuss various problems that might arise with Prototype and to discuss possible solutions and fixes for any such issues.

Note that this article is a work in progress. More issues/fixes will be added as we get further information.

Audio issues in cutscenes, stuttering/too fast audio playback or low volume level (quite audio)

Although Prototype is a relatively bug free port, some users have apparently run into audio problems with the game. These include stuttering or skipping audio, audio being played too fast (at high speed), or really low volume levels. I too experienced the weird cutscenes audio and small noise/stuttering and it was a good old fix that worked for Call of Duty 5 that finally saved the day.

  1. Go to your sound card’s control panel.
  2. Locate the option that allows you change the default audio format for the card.
  3. Set the default format to 24-bits, 48000Hz or less (if it doesn't work with 48000Hz, try 24 bits, 44100Hz)

Image: How the default format selection looks in RealTek HD Audio manager

If you set your sound card’s audio format to anything higher than 24 Bits, 48000 Hz, you may experience audio issues with Prototype. Note that this is not an in-game setting. This setting should be changed from your audio card’s control panel (Realtek HD Audio Manager, etc). If you cannot find the option in your sound card software you can try the generic fix below:

  1. Right click volume control on system tray and choose Playback devices.
  2. Choose the your default playback deveice and click properties.
  3. Go to the advanced tab. The default audio format should be selectable from there.

As for the low volume level, I haven’t quite figure out a way around it yet. However you can play around with your speaker configuration (change it to 5.1, 7.1) and see if it makes a difference. You can of course try turning up the volume on your speakers.

How do i change the screen resolution of Prototype? My screen resolution is not supported.

Instead of making available all resolutions to all users, Prototype devs have decided to enable certain resolutions only for video cards with high memory. This in my opinion was a bad choice. Anyways only the following screen resolutions are available if your video card has less than 512MB of video memory.

  • 640 x 480
  • 800 x 480
  • 800 x 600
  • 1024 x 768
  • 1152 x 720
  • 1152 x 864
  • 1280 x 720
  • 1280 x 800

The following resolutions (plus all of the above) are available for video cards with 512MB or more video memory.

  • 1280 x 1024
  • 1440 x 900
  • 1600 x 1200
  • 1680 x 1050
  • 1920 x 1080
  • 1920 x 1200
  • 2048 x 1152
  • 2048 x 1536
  • 2560 x 1600

Usually it’s possible to manually edit game configuration files and force resolutions that are unavailable by default. However Prototype’s config files seems to be encoded and I haven’t figured out a way to edit them yet. ill update if I come across anything new.

Prototype installer takes a long time to complete or hangs at installation

Some users have reported Prototype installer taking an abnormally large amount of time to complete or sometimes hang or crash at installation. I never experienced this myself but here are a few fixes you can try (on Windows 7 64-bit) if you encounter similar problems:

  • Windows 7 Installer crashes – Fix
    OR
  • Go to control Panel and click on "Local Security Setting" click on "Software Restriction Policies" in the right hand column double click on "enforcement" under this topic "Apply software restriction policies to the following user make sure you click on "to all users except local administrators"

My rig exceeds all requirements but gameplay performance is slow or game crashes to desktop, etc

I’ve seen people experience crashes or slowdowns with the game even if their computers exceed minimum system requirements. Usually, such random crashes and slowdowns are pretty hard to troubleshoot. But if you use a NVIDIA video card, I suggest you try playing the game with v186.08 beta drivers (download). Also note that prototype might display the frame rate incorrectly (the game says your FPS is 10-12 while the actual gameplay is smooth). If this is the case, just ignore it.

  1. Update DirectX – If you are using Windows XP, please update to the latest DirectX monthly runtime. This will get rid of all the ‘missing dll file’ errors and will reduce the possibility of in game crashes. Latest monthly runtime can be found here.
  2. Update Video card drivers – Both NVIDIA and ATI have recent video drivers out – you should always try updating to the latest official driver version available for your hardware for best performance. If anything goes wrong, the option to rollback to previous release is always there.
ATI Drivers: Download the latest ATI Catalyst drivers from this link: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx
NVIDIA Drivers: Download latest official NVIDIA drivers from this link: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
For Beta ATI/NVIDIA drivers for Windows 7, XP and Vista, check out this page: http://downloads.guru3d.com/
  3. Update sound card and motherboard drivers - Click Here to download 3DP Chip for Windows Vista/XP – This program will automatically detect your hardware (video card, sound card and motherboard) and find available driver updates.

How do i run Prototype in windowed mode?

Bad news is you can’t. Following is mentioned on the game Readme file - Windowed mode is not a supported feature of Prototype™ as you may get unexpected results.

Here is a site that fans of Asian movies, TV , anime and drama will enjoy greatly. AZNV provides free high quality streaming video for premium Asian content online. I’ve seen this site being listed on many private tracker automatic open signup checker sites and BitTorrent forums but it is NOT a torrent tracker. If you are looking for torrents do not even bother registering. AZNV is all about online streaming and it does not operate a BitTorrent tracker at all. Anyways lack of torrents does not mean this is a bad site – it’s an excellent resource for those who seek high quality online video streaming links for movies and TV shows from Asian region.

aznv tv

Those of you who are used to private BitTorrent trackers might find the site layout pretty unfamiliar. It however does come packed with features such as detailed content descriptions, favorites, bookmarks, popular categories, ability to sort content by language/country/rank, stream listings, user ratings for indexed shows and many other enhancements.

AZNV

Unlike popular streaming sites such as YouTube or DailyMotion, AZNV.TV does not use flash video. The reason is very well explained on the site itself:

AZNV.TV isn't your typical online video streaming site. We don't use flash, so you won't be watching anything in your web browser. Instead, the NSV container is used along with VP62 video and HE-AAC audio as our choice of codecs. Just for some quick history, we've been doing this since 2004 - way before sites like YouTube and Veoh were even around. And at that time, Flash video was uber crap and not fit for any kind of video streaming. The only options then were Windows Media, Real Media among some of the technologies available... but we chose NSV because at the time Winamp TV was popular and it did offered the best quality. Just ask some of our oldest members :)

Users without the necessary codecs to play AZTN’s streaming links will be automatically taken to a page with all the instructions and download links configure everything properly.

Unlike most other streaming sites, AZNV is not open to the public. Users either need to register during an open registrations period or need to get invited from an existing member. The does open up from time to time but open signups usually don’t last for more than a few minutes. At the time this post is being written, AZNV is open for registrations. We cannot guarantee it’ll be open for very long but if you are lucky, you might get in. If you couldn’t get in, don’t lose hope because it randomly opens up quite frequently

Pirates crack Prototype (PC) DRM

Posted by TEAM FILEnetworks | 6/10/2009 | | 4 Comments »

One of the most anticipated PC games of 2009, Prototype, has just been cracked by veteran scene group Razor1911. The cracked release has leaked online and the leak comes right on the game’s official release date in North America (9th of June). The game has not even been released in Europe yet. Prototype is a open ended action game developed by Radical Entertainment which has a really interesting storyline. Judging by various previews of the game, Prototype has fantastic graphics and great gameplay as well.

PROTOTYPE

Coming back to the leaked release, this game was protected by Sony’s SecuROM DRM (Digital Rights Management) software. Razor1911 has apparently cracked the protection and have included a cracked game executable which will allow pirates to play the game without serial/cd-key checks, DVD checks or online registration. It is currently not known if any SecuROM triggers were present in the game or if Razor1911 managed to remove all of them in their crack (SecuROM API allows developers to insert triggers (checks) at various points in game and if triggered these mess up a critical part of the game, usually rendering it unplayable.). The leaked release which is around 7.4GB in file size also contains a full DVD ISO of the game. Cracked version of the game has already made its way into the public from scene topsites to public and private BitTorrent trackers, one click hosting sites, etc.

Speaking of the game, this looks like a must have title for any PC gamer. I couldn't find any review of the game online so far but XBOX360 and PS3 versions of Prototype have both got an aggregate score of 90% on Gamerankings.com.

Note: This post is for informational purposes only. Do not post links to cracks, key generators or anything of that sort here.

When browsing through the usual file sharing forums today, I came across several recent threads about TheScene.Ro music tracker (TSCN). Since this was not exactly a brand new torrent site, i decided to check what the renewed buzz was all about. Ever since we featured it for the first time last January, TheScene.Ro has apparently undergone several changes in the last few months,  One of the major changes is that the site has now become a ratio free tracker. In the meantime, TSCN has beta tested an automatic torrent upload script with some good results. Additionally, 3500 inactive accounts have been pruned and public registrations have been made available once again.

the scene

As you might already know, there aren’t many ratio free music trackers currently online (except for a few like CoExist) so TheScene could actually attract a few more users with this move. Although the need to maintain a specific upload:download ratio is gone, users however need to maintain a monthly minimum traffic requirement of 300MB. In other words, the sum of your total download and upload traffic for each month should exceed 300mb (ex- if you download 250mb and upload 50mb, you’ll still be fine).

A mass PM sent to existing users of TheScene.Ro explains some of the changes in detail:

The test period for the auto-upload script it's ended with success. In approximately 24 hours, there were uploaded more then 250 torrents, having great pretimes, being in front of the "big, specialized trackers" .

Another "surprise" of the staff team it's the new approach way of traffic measurement. From today, TSCN it's joining those trackers which have gave up at the "ratio system" ,hoping that we'll get rid of the "i don't have enough ratio to download" thinking.
The new system it's based on total traffic , and the counting of download + upload amount. For now , the only rule kept is that all users must make at least an amount of  300 mb / monthly , for not getting disabled .

*The upload is still free for POWER USERS .
*We expect to see opinions about this .

Sure it cannot match the torrent index of What.cd or waffles.fm, but TSCN is still a decent music tracker. As of 7/6/2009, this tracker has 5400+ registered members and tracks close to 1800 torrents. The site’s origins lie in Romania however majority of indexed torrents point to English music (audio and music video) releases. Below is a screenshot of part of TSCN’s torrent index:

the scene music tracker

As mentioned at the stat of this article, public registrations for TheScene.Ro are currently open (over 3500 accounts inactive for 90 days were recently deleted). If you want to check this tracker out, you can create a free account now.

For our readers who missed open signups of DVDSeed and SceneSound when they were posted earlier, here is some great news. Both these trackers have re-opened public registrations and this time it’s likely that they’ll be open for more than a few hours. DVDSeed is an untouched DVDR (DVD5 and DVD9) and Blu-Ray movie/TV torrent tracker which is rarely open for public registrations. SceneSound is a new scene MP3 releases tracker that is based on the SoftMP3 source code – first open signup of this tracker lasted only for a few hours and many members could not get in during this short time interval.

Since both these sites were reviewed in detail here on FILEnetworks Blog recently, same information will not be repeated in this post. However we highly recommend you read the full tracker review (links given in the descriptions below) to get a detailed understanding of the site before you join.

SceneSound

SceneSound tracker

SceneSound seems to have moved to a better server setup and have apparently fixed several issues with the site– problems with signup page and RSS feeds now seem to be resolved. The bad news is that they’ve banned about 25 countries from the tracker – reason for this is unknown. A translated version of the news item posted on SceneSound is included below:

We are now running again on a better and more stable host. It has also been some changes in staff, you can see them here.

  • RSS feeds are updated and fix. There are now more choices before you generate a flow.
  • The donation page will come up shortly, more details of this when it is approaching.
  • Anyone can request and upload.
  • Some countries have been banned: Za. Ch. Ie. Ar. Mx. Hu. Tr. It. Pl. Il. Ro. Nz. Sk. For. Sg. Cn. Ru. Rs. De. Gr. Es. Ec . br. pt

Last, but certainly not least, registration is open.

Earlier on we reported how items available for purchase on ‘The Sims Store’ were leaked by the game’s users through various online gaming forums. Well now it seems that groups from the warez scene too have jumped on the bandwagon and released more Sims 3 premium content online. FASDOX and BAT, two leading scene groups specializing in DOX (game trainers, cracked updates, add-ons, mods, etc) releases, have leaked over 300MB of content which are not included in the game by default and need to be purchased online separately.

About two days ago group BAT released the RiverView town, the infamous second city in Sims 3 which is only available for those who legally register the game on EA store. Following is quoted from the BAT .NFO:

Heres the fabled missing half of the game - the extra city - available for those who sign up and register at the online store.

Please insert your credit card before playing, thanks !

The last line of course is a joke.

Today, group FASDOX released a whole bunch of content which are available for download for a fee on The Sims Store. On the release NFO, the following is mentioned:

Requirements.: The Sims 3-Razor1911, The.Sims.3-RELOADED or whatever

NOTE: This set contains: Bayside Fullset, Hewnsman Fullset, Tiki Fullset, Storybook Fullset and many more sets.

Also included are instructions to get the packs working with a pirated or legit copy of The Sims 3.

Although both these releases were meant to be used only by scene members, they’ve leaked onto private and public BitTorrent trackers, one click hosting sites, warez blogs and so on. In short, bulk of the content in EA’s The Sims Store are now available to the masses for free.

The decision by EA to include additional content for a price on The Sims Store (despite complaints about the lack of content in original game) has not been a very popular one amongst gamers. The following comment made by one of our readers in a previous thread sums it all up:

Mooe:

It's just crazy how much EA is milking their consumers. I mean, 1 dollar for one freaking sofa? A member from a forum that I regularly visit counted up all the items and their cost and estimated a value of about $420 if you buy everything. Pretty crazy.

And if you have a look at Sims 3 threads on popular gaming forums, you’ll find a lot of similar responses to the one above.

Note: Please do not post download or torrent links to leaked content here. This post is for informational purposes only.

Xvid codec 1.2.2 - Direct download

Posted by TEAM FILEnetworks | 6/07/2009 | | 2 Comments »

Yeah I know all of you might probably have it already but an updated version of the popular XViD codec was released just about a week ago. XViD 1.2.2 is a bugfix release which contains several security related fixes and is the first update to the codec after about 6 months. Also, if you are looking to download just the XViD codec separately (not an entire codec pack), use the download links towards the end of this article. XViD 1.2.2 consists of the Xvid DirectShow decoding filter and the Xvid VFW Codec. For those who don’t know what this codec does, it allows you to play movies and TV shows (or any other video file for that matter) encoded in Xvid – a popular format for stuff released on BitTorrent.

Today we feature another private torrent tracker which is heavily underrated but has excellent, unique content. In our last mention of MakeGreatMusic (MGM), we categorized it as a ‘music' torrent tracker’. This is only partly true because MGM tracks stuff that most other normal music trackers doesn't have – stuff that’ll help you ‘create’ music. It is also one of the best BitTorrent trackers on the planet for both fiction and non fiction audiobook torrents. MakeGreatMusic crew recently launched MGM V2 with lots of new features and a completely new site layout. For those looking to get in, public registrations are currently open as well.

makegreatmusic

Even though you might have never heard of it, MGM is not necessarily a small private tracker. As of 6/6/2009 the site has over 4200 active members and tracks close to 2000 torrents. The number of indexed torrents is actually a lot more than 2000 (around 4500). A small issue that arose during the transition to MGM v2 has caused some of the torrents to go ‘dead’. However even the ‘lost’ torrents are seemingly being added to the to the tracker – to see them all select ‘including dead’ option in the search filter.

As for the content on MGM, this tracker is heaven for audiobook fans. There are over 1500 audiobook torrents (both fiction and non fiction – this number could go as high as 3000 once lost torrents are all added back to the tracker) currently indexed on MGM. In addition, there are a lot of material that’ll help you create music - music instruction books, guitar/bass tabs, sheet music, music documentaries, lick libraries and other similar torrents are plentiful on this tracker. The following screenshot captures a part of MGM’s torrent index:

makegreatmusic screenshot
Image: On the left are some audiobook torrents and on the right some educational material

This site’s layout has gone through significant enhancements with the launch of MGM v2. It now features a sleek new top toolbar, a fully customizable start page and of course a new stylesheet.

As we mentioned earlier MGM is currently open to the public - user limit of the site has seemingly increased from 5k to 10k with the launch of MGM v2. This is good news for those who were waiting to get into this tracker including a number of people who left invite requests in our previous thread :p.

If you were a member of the semi private BitTorrent tracker SnowTigers, you might have noticed the site’s recent downtime. Unfortunately, SnowTigers is not offline due to a hardware failure or any other technical fault of that sort. The the site has been hit by one of the worst things that could happen to a BitTorrent tracker – a police raid. According to available information French police have seized 21 severs associated with SnowTigers and have also arrested 10 of the site’s administrators.

snowtigers logo

At the time of its demise, Snowtigers had a huge user base of over 250000 members (Alexa rank of ~5000) and was one of the largest French BitTorrent trackers. It was an extremely popular tracker for French content and tracked movies, music and drama including some rare, unique, local releases not found on most other BitTorrent trackers. As things stand right now, it is highly unlikely that the site would make a return anytime soon. More information about the raid can be found in this article (you might need Google translate as it’s French news source).

To be honest France has not been a file sharing friendly place from the very beginning. They’ve only recently passed a ‘three strikes’ anti piracy law that could be easily be manipulated with a little money and power to rape all file sharers in the country.

As always, it was definitely a mistake on the part of Swedish anti piracy agencies to threaten Sweden based torrent sites with legal action immediately after the court trial of Pirate Bay. Although this initially triggered a mass shutdown, Sweden’s BitTorrent scene seems to be returning with more power with trackers that closed down coming back online, new trackers being launched and existing trackers opening signup for new members. Newest Swedish tracker to open signups to the public is Swepirates – a General/0Day tracker that’s been around since 2006.

swepirates

Swepirates tracks general content which includes movies, music, games and software. Something I’ve noticed on this site that is has a lot of untouched DVDR releases (nearly one third of all torrents). These DVDRs are usually ones released for Nordic regions but spoken language is English with optional Swedish subtitles (always check torrent description when in doubt). Swepirates however lacks exclusive content – there are almost no packs or unique torrents to speak of apart from a few Swedish releases (even those scene releases). Most of the indexed torrents are very well seeded.

swepirates screenshot

Currently there are close to 500 active torrents (added since February 2009) and over 4700 registered users on Swepirates. Open registrations will continue till they reach 5000 users (that’s around 250 free spots remaining).

For long time readers of FILEnetworks Blog, the name Wunza should be a little familiar. Wunza.ws was/is a specialized movie tracker based on Gazelle that was first mentioned here back in 2008. Although it did not record an explosive growth as we initially expected, the site was decent enough to become a member of. However Wunza suffered from an extended downtime in 2009 (was offline for about 3 months), leading many users to think that it had shut down for good. This however does not seem to be the case – the site is now back online and Wunza v2 has been launched with several new features.

wunza

Quoted below is a news item posted on site homepage regarding Wunza V2:

After 2 months of work Wunza V2 is finally going online. As you can see we've had a major site redesign.
To go along with the new site we've coded an integrated points system site wide. From now on you'll receive points for nearly everything you do on the site: Uploading, Seeding, Forum activity, and much more.
To use these hard earned points we've made a points store where users can buy upload and custom titles as well as gift points to other users. In the future we will be adding more to the store so watch for future site updates.
To make your time here at Wunza more enjoyable we've also added a games system coded especially for Wunza. Currently you can try your hand at Blackjack and Hangman and we will be adding more games soon.
All of these new features are still somewhat beta and have been untested in an active environment, thus if there are any errors or unexpected hiccups in the system please message either flick or kr.
Because of the major changes we've made to the site, the torrents and forums have been reset. It's up to you to make Wunza great again. Upload, post, download like crazy, we're all counting on YOU.
Welcome back to the Wunza Community.

True there are some new features but Wunza will have to do something special if they are to rise again. This includes rebuilding the user and torrent database which have got reset during the downtime. When it was started back in 2008, Wunza was one of the first Gazelle based trackers that was around. However they do not have this advantage today – there are several other Gazelle based movie trackers such as PassThePopCorn, 700MBz (Open), Tehconnection (IRC invites open), etc that have thousands of torrents and users and have got a head start over Wunza. On a more positive note, over 450 members have signed up in the first two days since Wunza’s return. Signups are still open so you can check it out as well:

We’ve already talked about A-Patch on this blog and here is yet another utility to disable and remove advertisements in Microsoft’s popular IM client, Windows Live Messenger. WLM Universal Patcher does not have a whole lot of customization options but it has a few that matters the most such as ability to disable banner ads, ability to hide tabs, ad bar, MSN search component and of course multiple login support (aka polygamy). There have been multiple versions of this software released on the net but the latest available build at time of this post seems to be v.1.2.0.

WLM Universal PAtcher

There isn't much to talk about this app because everything WLM Universal Patcher does is self explanatory. It is of course a free piece of software which you can download in less than a minute in most cases (only 156kb in file size). Note that WLM Universal Patcher will require an unmodified installation of Windows Live Messenger. If you have applied any other patches that modified WLM exe, you might need to reinstall the software before running universal patcher.

Well here is a forum you don’t see open for public registrations everyday. TemplateP2P is a specialized site that hosts direct download links (DDL) for premium content such as templates, scripts, 3D animation, photography and more. This is an extremely handy site to have if you are a student or a professional in web development/web design/graphics design and other related fields. Unlike most other lifeless DDL forums, TemplateP2P has given birth to a strong community of members who share and download fresh new premium content every day.

templatep2p

This is by no means a tiny forum with just a handful members. TemplateP2P currently has a user base in excess of 7000 members and hosts close to 50k non archived forum threads. Most of the forum threads on this site provided verified, non fake DDL/one click hosting download links to premium templates, scripts, CMS and forum content, Flash content, 3D and animation, fonts, stock photography, graphics, images, icons, vectors, wallpapers and lots of other stuff that are not usually found on torrent trackers or general/0Day DDL forums. An excellent collection of tutorials is also online under which content related to Cartoon Smart, Design Pro Video, Digital Tutors, Eat3D, EC-Council, Gnomon, Kelby, Lynda, Noesis, Photoshop Cafe, Photoshop Top Secret, SimplyMax, Talented Pixie, Total Training, TurboSquid and VTC can be found. Some related Magazines and e-books are also available. The following screenshot captures part of templateP2P’s forum index:

templatep2p screenshot

TemplateP2P is a closed community and registrations are only open once or twice a year. The last time this tracker opened signups was back in December 2008 and after more than 6 months it has once again opened it's doors to new members. A mass PM/forum post on the site says:

Well, Our last open sign up was during Christmas time. I think it might be time to open the flood gates of hell and let in some new fresh blood.
I know some people, *cough* operator *cough*, aren't that fond of open sign ups. Each time we may get inactive members or leechers, but each time we seem to get a few really good members too. I think that is worth it. Please welcome any new comers and help them become a part of the community.
I ask that any new members introduce themselves properly to the community here: http://templatep2p.com/forum/index.php?board=113.0
The event will last from June 3rd to June 5th. (Wednesday Through Friday)

As the notice above says open registrations will continue till the 5th of June. If you are interested, here is your chance to get in.

We previously reported how the popular life simulation game Sims 3 leaked online two weeks before its official release. Unfortunately for EA, the leaks apparently did not stop there - premium items available for purchase via the Sims Store have now leaked online as well. This includes Riverview, the second town that is not available unless you register online at the Sims store as well as several other premium content packs that need to be purchased separately.

Apart from Riverview town, some of the content that have allegedly leaked online include various clothing, hairstyles, storybooks, cars available only in pre order editions, etc. Various online forums such as NFOhump and ‘More Awesome Than You’ are abuzz with this news. I’ve seen fans of Sims 3 competing against each other to post download links for premium content packs they found online. One user even claims to have uploaded as much as 40 such packs to an online file hosting service.

Anyways I don’t think the leaks would affect EA significantly. Whatever’s leaked online, a lot of legit users and Sims 3 ‘addicts’ are still going to purchase additional content via the Sims Store, ensuring continuous cash flow for EA even after the game is sold.

Note: Do not ask for or post direct download links to leaked content here.

GFT (GForces Tracker), the popular ratio free zero day torrent tracker has gone through some changes. The site’s user class system has been completely revamped and 13 all new user classes have been introduced. This has of course changed the site’s existing promotions scheme as well. A bunch of new user classes is not all the changes that GFT has undergone – their coders have finally fixed an issue with dynamic IP that’s been driving some users crazy over the past few months.

gforces tracker

Ever since it’s launch, GFT has not been the most dynamic-IP friendly tracker that was around. Although there were barriers for users with dynamic IP to register on the tracker or to download torrents, they needed to have the same IP they had when the torrent file was first downloaded throughout the leech/seeding period. If the IP was changed during this time, user had to log into GFT with the new IP in order to use the tracker. Since IP changes are frequent with dynamic IP based connections, needless to say this annoyed the hell out of some users. Good news is that it’s all been fixed now.

As for the new user classes on GFT – there are 13 of them. Here is a summarized list with user classes and requirements that have to be met in order to get promoted (quoted from faq.php):

GFT Virgin -The default class of new members.

GFT Friend  - Can view NFO files and upload.
Requirements:

  • Be a member for at least 8 weeks
  • Have uploaded at least 256 GiB OR
  • Have an average seed time of 4 days and downloaded 250 files

GFT Dating - Can get Engaged.
Requirements:

  • Be a member for at least 12 weeks
  • Have uploaded at least 512 GiB OR
  • Have an average seed time of 10 days and downloaded 500 files

GFT Engaged - Can get Married.
Requirements:

  • Be a member for at least 12 weeks
  • Have uploaded at least 512 GiB OR
  • Have an average seed time of 10 days and downloaded 500 files

GFT Married - Can view Top 10.
Requirements:

  • Be a member for at least 16 weeks
  • Have uploaded at least 1 TiB OR
  • Have an average seed time of 15 days and downloaded 750 files

GFT Parents - Can participate in invite draws.
Requirements:

  • Be a member for at least 16 weeks
  • Have uploaded at least 2 TiB OR
  • Have an average seed time of 20 days and downloaded 1000 files

Family (VIP) - Same privileges as GFT Parents and is considered an Elite Member of GFTracker. Immune to automatic demotion.
Requirements:

Other - Customised title.

Uploader - Special Uploader class

Moderator - Can do some things.

Administrator - Can do just about anything.

SysOp - Can do everything.

Staff Leader - The boss, does nothing.

Meanwhile there is still no news of any new planned IRC invite giveaway (the last planned giveaway was cancelled). If we get any news regarding any such event, this blog will be updated.

SoftMP3 was probably the best BitTorrent tracker for scene released MP3 music at the time of its demise. Unfortunately the Sweden hosted site had to shut down due to legal threats received following TPB’s defeat in court. For those who are looking for a SoftMP3 alternative and for those looking forward to get into a decent scene MP3 music tracker, here is a glimmer of hope. SceneSound is a brand new MP3 torrent site that went online two days ago. This tracker is built around the recently made public source code of SoftMP3 - everything from the logo to the site interface resembles the look and feel of the popular music tracker.

scenesound

Although it’s been only two days since this tracker has gone online, it’s already got a good number of users on board. As of 2/6/2009 there are  over 675 members. Torrents are being added at an amazing speed as well – currently there are over 700 music albums (150+ new ones and around 550 more in the archive section) tracked by SceneSound’a BitTorrent tracker.

As for the nature of the content and the site layout, there is nothing much to talk about – it’s all SoftMP3. Most familiar features such as the archive section, lossless music section, customizable start page, easy to read FAQ and rules presentation, toplists and requests have all returned.

scenesound start page

Like most newly launched private BitTorrent trackers, SceneSound is open for public signup. A user limit is not mentioned on the site but if the current trend of mass registrations continue, they might shut the doors pretty quickly.

ThreatFire is an anti malware product developed by PC-Tools, the same folks behind the excellent registry optimizer ‘Registry Mechanic’. What’s interesting about ThreatFire is that it focuses largely on the prevention of new, undiscovered, zero day malware infections. Unlike traditional Anti Virus software ThreatFire does not use a ‘virus signature database’ based approach towards the elimination of security threats. Instead, it uses behavioral monitoring that can detect previously unknown viruses and other pests without the need for updated definition files.

threatfire

Note that ThreatFire should not be considered as an all in one security solution for virus/malware prevention. I suggest you combine it with a dedicated Anti Virus software such as Kaspersky to get killer results.

Features

  • Comprehensive protection against viruses, worms, trojans, spyware, rootkits, keyloggers & buffer overflows
  • Real-time behavior-based malware detection
  • Immediately shut down destructive processes and quarantine malware
  • Automatic updates (when opted in to ThreatFire Community)
  • ThreatFire reporting and protection statistics
  • Malware quarantine & removal
  • Rootkit scanner - ability to schedule and customize
  • Advanced custom rules settings, fully configurable
  • System Activity Monitor - view instructive data about all running processes
  • Informative alerts provide guidance on how to proceed; most threats automatically quarantined
  • Free online support
  • Personal and individual use allowed

Download

Basic version of this software is free of charge. It has almost all major features of the pro version and is great for day to day use.

A while ago we featured here a Gazelle based private gaming tracker named JuicyBitz. Unlike most specialized games trackers, JuicyBitz focused on ROMS, emulators and retro games. It was a good niche tracker but unfortunately the site is not online anymore. For fans of ROMS and emulation who are looking for similar BitTorrent trackers with ROMS and emulation, we present you Emuparadise. Emuparadise is a tracker full of ROMS and emulators for many different consoles such as Playstation 1/2, PSP, XBOX . With the help of this tracker, you should be able to play some of your favorite console games on the PC.

emuparadise

Unlike JuicyBitz, Emuparadise is a pretty old. With more than 16000 users and over 1200 active torrents, this is a well established tracker in the BitTorrent scene (note that the number of torrents could have been a lot bigger – they seem to delete inactive torrents quickly). As for the content, there are a lot of ROMS and emulators (an emulator is a software which emulates the console environment on the PC and hence allows console games to be played on the PC. A ROM is similar to an ‘image’ of a game cartridge or a DVD/CD if it’s a modern system. In short, you load the ROMs into the PC using an emulator). See the screenshot below to get a better understanding of the content available:

emuparadise screenshot

Public registrations for Emuparadise are currently open. If you are interested in joining a tracker which’s main focus lies on old school console games and ROMs, then go ahead and get yourself an account.

Although there are over a thousand private torrent trackers currently online, the BitTorrent community has long since wanted a new specialized comedy tracker. We’re not talking about general/movie or TV trackers with a few comedy Packs or several standups here and there but of an entire private tracker that’s dedicated to the comedy genre. This is exactly what Comic-Releech (CoR) is – a Gazelle based BitTorrent site for comedy movies, TV shows, stand ups, E-books and even audio recordings. It’s only been a week since the site has officially launched but the progress so far has been very promising.

Comic Releech

For the 7 or so days it’s been online, CoR has managed to add 280+ registered members and 165+ active torrents. These are good stats considering the tracker has not had an open signup ever since its launch – at least not yet. As we mentioned earlier CoR is based on Gazelle, the BitTorrent tracker script pioneered by what.cd. A customized version of Gazelle is used with new user classes, custom style sheets (currently 4 styles available – BlueSketch (one that’s featured in screenshots of this article), TheJoker, BloodyHumor and Apollo), a bonus system, requests, forums and so on. CoR 1.1 which is due to be launched soon will contain more stylesheets, bugfixes and some user suggested features as well.

Speaking about the content on Comic Releech, it’s all about comedy. Comedy movies, comedy themed TV series, standups, e-books relating to comedy and audio clips can be found on this tracker. The following screenshot will help you get a better understanding of the site’s content:

CoR screenshot

Public registrations for CoR are currently closed – it probably won’t open up in the near future as well. However if you are looking forward to join this tracker, you can easily get in if you pass the IRC interview. This IRC interview consists of around 20 questions relating to BitTorrent – you don’t need to know rocket science to answer them and don’t worry they won’t make you write essays. The interview should be over in 10-15 minutes at most.

Site Name: Comic Releech (http://www.comic-relee.ch)

Invites Channel DetailsServer: irc.comic-relee.ch Channel: #invites

Invites Channel Direct Link: irc://irc.comic-relee.ch/invites (should work if you have mIRC installed). If you are an IRC noob, read this article first.

Once logged onto the IRC channel, do as the channel topic says. Don’t PM channel ops without authorization and don’t spam the channel. Join the queue and when it’s your opportunity, you will be invited to a separate invite channel where the actual interview will take place.

Good Luck!

If you frequently upload images to free online image hosting services such as ImageShack and Tinypic, this little software can save you a lot of time. Every time you want to upload an image to any one of these services, you have to visit the web page, select the file through web interface and then upload it to the service. This procees could get boring after a while. Wouldn’t it be awesome if you could upload an image right from your desktop, maybe by just right clicking on an image file? This is exactly what ImageShack/Tinypic uploader v1.52 does – it can directly upload user images to aforementioned image hosting services without the need for a web browser.

tinypic imageshack uploader

The screenshot above should give you a better idea of this software and the features associated with it. Note that once you upload an image, the uploader automatically retrieves the direct link to image and displays it on the main interface. Pretty cool stuff. If you are into torrenting and private torrent trackers, this can save a lot of time when creating ratio proofs, screenshots etc as well.
