If you still haven’t tried Just Cause 2, I suggest you go and try it now. It’s a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously but of course you’ll have a lot of fun playing it (unless you hate action video games with a passion). Just Cause 2 was released to the public yesterday (23rd of March) and so far, it’s been well received by gamers. The game appears to be well polished and thankfully it’s not filled with bugs and glitches unlike some other titles released earlier this year. However, some of our readers do seem to have run into some problems with Just Cause 2. This is an attempt to help resolve common issues people seem to be having with this game. Note that the article is a work in progress and more content will be added later, as issues and fixes are discovered.

Can’t run the game in Windows XP

Unfortunately, this is a problem that cannot be solved. Just Cause 2 is a DX10/11 game and only supports Windows Vista and Windows 7. There is currently no way you can get the game to run under Windows XP (which only has DirectX 9). There are various hacks posted online but they simply do not work – do not waste your time on this if you have XP.

Cant find XINPUT1_3.dll  Error

This error and most other similar missing DLL errors are usually triggered due to a non updated version of DirectX. Please download and install the latest version of DirectX and the error would most likely be gone :)

Installer issues, crashes, freezes or hang at launch

Some of the most common issues people seem to be experiencing with this game seems to include the Just Cause 2 not launching after the main executable is clicked. Black, blank screens at launch or crashes to desktop have also been reported. One possible reason for such problems is a corrupted or incomplete installation. If you are experiencing such problems, we suggest you reinstall the game, this time running the installer as Administrator (Right click and choose ‘Run as administrator’).

On Windows Vista and Windows 7, when a non-admin privileged user tries to install something into Program Files, sometimes the OS directs the install location to the user’s VirtualHost folder. This is a safety feature but might cause issues with games such as Just Cause 2. Reinstalling and running the setup as administrator should fix this problem.

You can also try installing the game to a less restrictive folder than Program Files. If you are intending to play using a non administrator account, make sure to give the account full permission to the game’s install folder (Right click install dir -> Properties -> Security -> Edit -> Add -> Advanced -> Find now –> Choose your user account and press OK to all open windows to save and close). Additionally, right lick JustCause2.exe and choose ‘'Run as Admin’ when launching the game as well.

Disappearing civilians and vehicles

Some people have reported that all civilian vehicles and civilians disappear after you play several hours into the game. This seems to be an actual bug and has been acknowledged on Just Cause 2 support forums. If this happens, all you need to do this to start a race – this should reload all civilians and vehicles in the area.

Its an interesting choice of them to not support XP as there are still many gamers that use it.

any chance you could direct me to this "virtualhost folder" ??

I have vista and just installed using the reloaded torrent and after attempting to install to the program files directory, just cause 2 is GONE.

i can not find the dir and my hard drive space is missing, i have worked for hour trying to find the fix to this -- and you pointing out this random folder is the best lead i have atm =x

  4. TEAM FILEnetworks // 3/28/2010 04:55:00 PM

    It goes something like this:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ and then inside it there will be a program files folder and the game's installation.

A more detailed account of the whole redirection process may be found here:
(this is written with developers in mind)

    Thank you sooooooooo much =)

Is there a reason why it doesn't show up on a search even when I make sure to check the box where it looks through EVERYTHING including non-indexed and hidden files?

I have been plagued with the JC2 crashes ever since I steamed it. My system is perfectly capable of running the game. So after spraying out all the dust and other gunk from my BFG GTX280 OC, I was able to get a little more time in gameplay, but unfortunately I could only run the game in the lowest resolution. Even then I only got about 30 minutes of play time.
I know that nvidia recalled an older driver because of a fan control issue. Well I have noticed the same issue even with the 197.45 drivers. So I downloaded Gainward's Expert Tool version 7.2.

It installed fine on my Win7 64-bit system and all I did was turn off dynamic fan control, raised the fan speed to about 85% and the game magically ran for 1 hour and I did notice about a 10 degree Celsius drop in temperature. Just for the heck of it, I decided to up the fan speed to 100% so that I didn't have any long-term overheating while playing. I was able to play JC2 for about 4.5 hours. The game did lockup, but it happened when I pressed the "Exit to Windows" button from the menu. No big deal because the game lasted for the longest ever.

I notice a lot of questions, few answers. unfortunate.....

when it crashes....it crashes everything. Odd, i can play infinitly until i a)get weapons delivered, will not happen b)once in pda going to intel. map is fine.

I also had the exact problem with fallout 3, it only crashed when trading/buying/selling. Not once in the 60 some odd hours did it crash anywhere else. troubling that JC2 is doing the same thing.
Any ideas? (thought maybe processor, might just be pc running to much junk for the processor to handle...but only when i buy weopons???)

    Windows 7 ultimate
    AMD ATHLON 64 X 2
radeon 5770 1gb (yes utd drivers)

I bought Just Cause 2 after playing a pirate version of it, and deciding to support the developers with what appeared to be a fun game. Wrong. I have Win7/64bit installed with a Radeon 4670 card, and on both the pirated game and the retail I experienced crashes and locks. I think the issue is with Windows 7 64 bit and the developer. It needs a serious patch, and that's not going to happen.

This Game Wll Now Exit. Try starting the game with /failsafe if the problem persists.

  27. Sliphead // 3/04/2011 02:33:00 PM

I figured out how to FIX THE FREEZING :D
Becuase its a consol originaly game you have to think like a consol. So, download Riva Turn, turn the gpu speed and ram speed, like waaaay down on your video card. Same frame rate and no freezing :D
