In the last two months of 2008, a lot of good PC games were released in a quick succession. There has hardly been any notable release after Prince of Persia 2008 which was released on the second week of December. Some good news for Indian/Bollywood/Desi (or whatever else you call them) movie fans. DCTorrents (Desi Club Torrent) is one of the best Hindi/Indian movies trackers currently online. It’s a private torrent tracker and a forum and is usually closed for public registrations. However DCTorrent, like many other private trackers, have opened signups in celebration of the new year.

Since I’m no Hindi movie fan I wouldn’t be able to comment much about the content here (perhaps our Indian/Pakistani readers can enlighten us). As far as I know, this definitely is one of the best places to download Hindi/Bollywood/Lollywood movies and music for free (similar to trackers such as ExDesi (Open), iDesiR (Open), Desitorrents and BwTorrents) . DCTorrent seem to have a lot of OST (official soundtracks) and music videos. The site’s main attraction however is Hindi movies which come as DVDRips, HDRips, Blu-Ray, Pre DVD releases, VCD and other forms. At the time this post is being written, DCTorrent tracks over 10000 torrents.

Apart from the torrent tracker, DCTorrents seem to have a pretty active community. Their forums is home to discussions ranging from politics, sports to tutorials and guides for BitTorrent. As stated earlier DCTorrent is currently open for public registrations. There is a forum post regarding the open signup:

DVD Shrink is one of the most user friendly and least resource consuming DVD backup software. It allows you to backup your DVD5/DVD9 disks to hard drive or any other storage device. With the help of a DVD burning software such as Nero Burning ROM, you can later write these files to an empty DVD disk to create a replica of the original.

One great feature of DVD Shrink is that it’s able to resize and adjust the DVD files on hard disk to fit on the destination disk. If you want to backup copy protected DVD titles with DVD Shrink, use a 3rd party application that can bypass DVD encryption/copy protection such as AnyDVD or DVDFab for best results. Most DVD video titles are simply too large to fit, without modification, onto a single recordable DVD-R disk. DVD Shrink overcomes this problem by modifying or "shrinking" the data from your original DVD.
DVD Shrink provides two ways of shrinking your DVD disk. These are re-authoring and re-encoding. You can use one, or the other, or for maximum "shrinkage", both combined.

Audiotracer is a private torrent tracker specializing in audio utilities, music authoring applications, tutorial ebooks, sound effects and other music related extras. First of all let me tell you that all of these applications were released to the public (web setup) back on the 18th of December 2008. We have already posted the offline installer for Windows Live Messenger 9 Final on the same day it was released. Since many people were asking for offline/standalone installers for other Windows Live applications such as Windows Live Writer, Windows Live Mail, etc we thought of posting a separate article in this regard.

As you may already be aware, latest versions of Windows Live applications can be downloaded for free from http://get.live.com/. However, these applications need to be downloaded through a web installer. If you have a high speed, high bandwidth connection this would be great. But what if you have multiple computers, a computer with no internet access or a computer with limited internet access (time limited, data cap, low bandwidth, etc)? Since the web installer does not create a redistributable setup file on the system, you cannot download the Live apps once and install it on many computers. If you suffer from a system failure you’ll have to re download. If you have multiple computers you’ll have to run the web installer on each of them separately. If you have no internet access you cannot run the web installer at all. If you are in any one of these situations, there is no need to worry - given below is the link to offline installer for all Windows Live applications.

More good news in on the first day of year 2009! RevolutionTT (RevTT), one of the best private torrent trackers currently online, has just opened its doors to the public for 3 days! To put it short, RevolutionTT is a tracker that can rival TorrentLeech in content, pre times and download speeds.

At the time this post is being written, RevolutionTT has close to 40000 members (which is expected to rise as the news of open signup spreads) and tracks a whopping 16000+ torrents. If you can remember, we previously posted an article about how and where to obtain offline virus definition updates for popular Anti Virus software. A method to manually update Kaspersky products was included in that article but here is as easier, shorter way of obtaining offline definition updates for KIS and KAV version 2009 (8.0) and other products.

Kaspersky Updater is a software designed by Kaspersky Labs itself. Until recently it was a command line only tool and was not that user friendly. However as of version 3.1.0.7 a GUI component has been added and things have become much more easier. Here is how you can manually update Kaspersky Internet Security and Kaspersky Anti Virus (and other products) using Kaspersky Updater: (Note – this tutorial is based on KIS 2009 and KAV 2009. Some steps may change slightly for other Kaspersky products)

1. Download Kaspersky Updater base files from this link.
2. Download Kaspersky Updater GUI component from this link.
3. Extract both zip files to the same folder. Run KasperskyUpdater.exe
4. Tick the Kaspersky product and version you need updates downloaded for and start updating. Wait till it finishes.
5. Now open the application’s (KIS, KAV or whatever Kaspersky app you downloaded updates for) main window 
6. Click the Settings button 
7. In the left part of the window select Update. In the right part of the window click the Settings button 
8. On the Source tab clear (un-tick) the box Kaspersky Lab’s update servers
9. Click the Add link. Browse the folder where you extracted Kaspersky Updater files in step 3. There should be a sub folder named Updates. Select this folder.
10. Click OK to close each window. Run the update process. Kaspersky will now update with the downloaded virus definition files.

If you want to update another computer which does not have an internet connection, simply copy the updates folder to that computer and configure Kaspersky (Do steps 5-10 and give the location of copied Updates folder accordingly) as stated above.

Here is a quick update on Torrent Damage. As you may be aware, site and the BitTorrent tracker was down for about a week pending launch of TDv2. The upgrade is finally complete and the site is now fully functional. From what it looks like, TDv2 seems to be based on a customized version of the Gazelle codebase.

 

The new interface has many pros over the previous layout. You can now order torrents and search results by seeders, date added, etc. In addition, forums and torrents searching has become much more accessible.

Currently there are two stylesheets to choose from (Light and Dark). The above screenshot is taken with the Dark stylesheet selected. A new set of category icons have also been added.  Apart from that the new layout looks sleek and navigates pretty fast. 

It’s indeed good news for existing members. If you are looking forward to get into this tracker, the only way in (as of now) is to obtain an invite. However, Torrent Damage is known to open signups from time to time. If it does indeed open public signups again, FILEnetworks Blog will definitely be updated with the news. Stay tuned.
