Czone.ro which is considered to be one of the elite bittorrent trackers, has opened signups. The surprise move comes after the site seemingly deleted all torrents and all user accounts from the database (or their DB crashed and they started from scratch). Either way, they are currently accepting new signups.

As of time of post, there are no torrents in the database. However the registered user count has shot up from 0 to 3800+ in a short while. Get yourselves an account; this is an elite tracker! (if it returns to its former glory that is).

CZONE tracker opens signups after database deletion

TorrentSpy, one of the most visited bittorrent search engines on the Internet, has permanently shut down its operations since 24th of March, 2008. Although the site merely indexed torrents and did not operate a tracker, it was popular among beginners to the bittorrent world.

The site has been in a prolonged court battle with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), which resulted in the site blocking access to US visitors as well as deleting all cached torrent files from their server.

So is this a major blow to the bittorrent community? Although TorrentSpy will be missed, it will not be the end of the world. Here is what Brokep (Administrator of The Pirate Bay) had to say about the closure:

"Today, sadly, Justin decided to shut down TorrentSpy. It does not change things for the other torrent sites more than usual. New sites will emerge, the other torrent sites will get a small boost in traffic. It’s however very sad to see that the pressure put on one single peer has been so hard that one of the main players in the torrent scene has to shut down his site.

Today all big torrent sites are pressured somehow. TPB has it’s share of pressure, however we expected it and have a legal system that is more just in cases like this. The way that the copyright lobby is going at this is totally wrong and we can’t let them win. And we won’t let them win. Today we reached a loss of a site, but it was more a person having to give up for economical reasons than anything else. The copyright lobby has their big cards - money and influence. In the long run they will have to give up as well. And when they do, I’ll go to the US and buy Justin a well-deserved beer."

AppzUniverse is open - 20/3/2008

Antigua based software developer SlySoft claims to have cracked the copy protection scheme used by Sony's Blu-Ray discs (BD+). The latest version of SlySoft AnyDVD HD now has the capability to copy and backup copy protected High Definition (HD) movies stored in Blu-Ray or HD-DVD discs.

 

Unlike in the case with HD-DVD, Slysoft will not find cracking BD+ to be a one time solution. This is due to the fact that BD+ supports security updates. That means, newer disks will have updated protection against the cracks. But as always, it is safe to assume that updates releases too will be cracked in due time (WGA anyone?), as has happened with almost every copy protection scheme in the world.

Here is what Giancarlo Bettini, SlySoft CEO had to say about his company's breakthrough:

"We are convinced that today's release will give the high-density market new impulse. It remains unclear just what direction this will take. On the one hand, it can give Blu-ray a boost because the end-user has the certainty in knowing now that a backup security copy can also be made from Blu-ray disks protected by BD+. On the other hand, one or more film studios may want to reconsider their withdrawal from HD DVD and Toshiba could also grant the high-density DVD a reprieve. HD DVD certainly deserves a second chance, particularly since HD DVD hardware has obtained a higher market share within the last months than its BD counterpart from SONY. In any event, I wish all those involved a happy Easter from the bottom of my heart."

Once scanning is complete, a detailed report one the scan results (sorted by scan engine) will be shown. This service is extremely useful when you come across dodgy and suspicious looking key generators, cracktros, cracks , etc.
