STN tracker bans Romania

Banhammer has fallen on Romania, once again. Latest private tracker to issue a country ban on Romania is StoreThe.Net (STN). I wasn’t aware of this until we got some mails from several readers who got ‘country ban’ messages upon registration. Checked with the STN admin and apparently it’s true - .ro is banned. As usual the ban is imposed due to a large percentage of users from Romania cheating and scamming the tracker, violating its rules. First thing that came to my mind after hearing this was ‘Why would anyone cheat on a ratio free tracker’? Anyways currently the ban only applies to potential new registrations from Romania and known cheaters. Romanian users who already signed up and used the site legitimately need not worry.

Country bans are generally met with frowns and groans as a fair share of legitimate users also get affected (in a bad way) due to the actions of a few. In this case however, you really cannot blame the admin – from what we hear more than 50% of users ( 80 users out of ~150) who signed up from Romania were found to be cheating. Some were even found to be bridging STN’s private tracker to Romanian public trackers.

With SCC, ScT, GFT and now STN banning .ro IP ranges, Romanians are missing out on some of the best General/0Day torrent trackers in the BitTorrent community. However they do have a ton of private trackers hosted on their own country, including some pretty large ones such as TorrentBits, LastTorrents, SceneFZ, CZTEAM, iPlay and XtremeZone.

    I wish I had never been born in Romania.To complete the whole thing just TL remains to ban us,maybe some day this will happen.

    You missed one great .ro tracker: filelist.ro. Some might argue that it's lame or something like that, but the truth is that filelist.ro is a great tracker and I'm a proud member of it :D

    And it isn't so bad with those tracker bans... You think we don't know how to use a proxy??? =))

    Sorry Volker but becouse of such comments as this one about the proxy rules for you will get even more drastic and the admins will work even harder to get you out from their trackers.

    @Matija: what's worse? to be banned and not being able to use a tracker or evading the ban with a minor risk of getting disabled (but still being able to use the tracker). You see? We don't have too much to loose. And after all, if we still get disabled we have many great alternatives... so it's pointless to ban a country ( not to say 57|_||*i|) ).

    For tracker admins: country bans also prevents many good users to join. If you want to disable the cheaters deal with each user. You think that bad users won't find a way into your site? There are countless possibilities...

    For tracker admins: country bans prevents many BAD users to join. If you want to disable the cheaters, DON'T deal with each user - it takes too much times especially if more than half from a country are scumbags. Beware that bad users will find a way into your site e.g. through a proxy like one hypocritical scumbag has already mentioned?

    yeah scumbags like Volker may be able to cheat there way into sites but there day always comes. U cheat in sites u cheat other places and the little nerds will get crushed

    I realize there are lots of good, honest Romanians that would like to join the tracker. I also realize there are bad groups of people in every country.

    I am very fair.

    Romanians wishing to join do the following:

    Join irc irc.storethe.net
    PM me (yocto)
    include links to two ratio proves with "I DO NOT CHEAT" in the search or address bar.
    Also include the ip from which you will connect to the tracker, and your email.

    I'll send you a special invite within 24 hours.
