Demonoid, the semi private BitTorrent tracker loved by so many torrenters all over the world, has been down for weeks. Although it’s highly likely that the site will return, there is no exact ETA as of yet. The downtime came as a surprise for many users while other had advance information. If you were downloading a torrent tracked by Demonoid’s tracker (inferno.demonoid.com) when the site went down, here’s something that could help speed up things up. Below is a list of public trackers that you can add to Demonoid torrents so that they have the chance of being tracked by a working BitTorrent tracker rather than one that’s (currently) offline.

Note that the above list was posted on Demonoid’s homepage yesterday. As you can see, both OpenBitTorrent and PublicBT trackers which became quite popular in the recent past have been included in the list. It’s also interesting to note that a bunch of trackers developed using Google App Engine (ones that end with .appspot.com) to also be featured. Anyways if enough people add above trackers to their torrents, it’d definitely speed things up.

How to add more trackers in uTorrent

  1. Right click the torrent you want to add trackers for.
  2. Select ‘Properties’
  3. Add any number of trackers you want in the textfield in ‘General’ tab. Make sure to separate each tracker entry with a blank line.

How to add more trackers in Vuze/Azureus

  1. Right click the torrent you want to add trackers for.
  2. Choose ‘Advanced’—>’Tracker’—>‘Edit tracker URLs’
  3. Right lick on a tracker group and select ‘New tracker’. You can create new tracker groups and add as well.
Unlike in uTorrent, you’ll have to add trackers one by one in Vuze.

Hope this helps. If you don’t have a Demonoid account yet, we’ll launch our 14th Demonoid invitation code giveaway soon after the site returns - stay tuned.

Google App Engine trackers seem to have bandwidth limit. Most now say

    "Over Quota
This application is temporarily over its serving quota. Please try again later."
