These seem to be good days for music fans. As we have highlighted before, What.CD and Waffles.Fm are not the only music torrent communities around. While these two are without a doubt excellent trackers, there are other smaller sites around which have also been successful. Today’s post is about one such private BitTorrent tracker; Libble.com. Libble is a private BitTorrent tracker that specializes in music. It runs on a heavily customized Gazelle codebase and sports a beautiful interface. But that’s not the main attraction of this site – it’s a music tracker without a ratio system, just like CoExist, TSCN, Vibes and SQN.

Libble

Libble has been around for few years and it’s done quite well as a niche private tracker during this time. At the time this post was being written there were over 10500 music albums by 8600 artists spanned across over 12000 active torrents. With 5600+ registered members, it’s has a decent sized user base as well.

As we mentioned in a previous article, Libble has a special system called ‘Share Rank’ instead of the regular ratio system commonly found on most private trackers. A brief summary of Share Rank may be found below (information is quoted from Libble Knowledgebase):

Share ranks are a system we've implemented to replace ratios. It is a measure of your contribution to the site based on several factors:
Ratio - If your ratio is between 0 and 3 you will get a positive or negative bonus based on how good (or bad) your ratio is.
Torrents Uploaded - The more torrents you upload, the higher bonus you get.
Data transferred - The more data you transfer on torrents (up or down) you higher bonus you get.
Torrents Snatched - The more torrents you snatch the higher your bonus.
Torrents seeding - The more torrents you're seeding the higher your bonus.
Hit and runs - Your total hit and runs in the last month is subtracted from your score.
These factors are combined (with different weightings) to give you a final score. This will determine your user class and whether you are put on Share rank watch or not. In general you should keep your share rank positive.

It’s highly recommended that you read the ‘Share Rank’ section in KB if you are thinking of becoming a member of this tracker. It explains things in greater detail.

Speaking of the content available in Libble, it’s all about music. You can find and download music albums related to a number of different music genres such as pop, rock, indie, punk, techno and many many more. Both scene releases and p2p uploads are tracked. In addition to releases common to most music BitTorrent sites, Libble has unique torrents of their own such as Libble Community Mix Tapes and User-Made Mix Tapes. Both lossly (MP3) and lossless (FLAC) music albums are available. Screenshot below captures a small part of Libble’s torrent index:

Libble is a private community and is usually closed for signup. However at time of this post, public registrations seem to have opened for a limited time. We do not know when signups will close so if you do want to become a member, register ASAP. All new users will get 2 free invites upon signup (EDIT: New members do not receive any invites at first. They need to be earned.).

Site Name: Libble (http://libble.com)

Signup URL: http://libble.com/register.php

If by the time you read this post the site has become invite only, you can still try to get in by obtaining a free invite through IRC. Channel and server details are as follows:

There seems to be a misunderstanding about all new members receiving invites-unfortunately, that is not the case; they must be earned.

Just fyi, Libble does not give invites to new members; they need to be earned, just like at most other sites.
