This game is the third installment of the Soldier of Fortune series. A routine escort mission goes wrong that causes players to deal with an enemy that knows no bounds. I meet the other requirements, but i'm not too sure about the VGA, will a 256mb FX5500 work?

It should work. But you may have to run the game on low settings given the crappy shader performance of nvidia FX series.
By the way your card should play Half Life 2/ Episode 1/Episode 2 smoothly (i have tried these on a FX 5200 Ultra on medium) give those games a try if you already didnt. HL2 series is a must play.
