After being closed for a while, PTN has re-opened their external invite applications to the public. This should be good news for folks who were looking forward to get in since PTN invites are not that common and on most BitTorrent forums it’s a non-movement tracker (you can’t request/giveaway invites). External applications are one of the safest ways to get invited as the invites come directly from trackers staff - there will be no risk of your inviter being a scammer, trader or a cheater. As we have discussed in detail many times before, PTN is a specialized movie torrent tracker. It’s a ratio free private site that focuses a lot on community.

PTN may not be as popular as other specialized movie trackers but that doesn’t mean it’s crap. In fact, PTN is a tracker that doesn’t prefer much publicity – they have rules in place that prevent full tracker name on URL being publicly disclosed. It’s not just a wannabe secret tracker though – PTN is a pretty well established site' that’s been around for a while. Currently there are over 2600+ active members and over 7500 torrents indexed.

PTN mostly tracks movies. This includes individual movies as well as unique movie packs. In addition TV series (including season packs) and OSTs can also be found on this tracker. Screenshot below shows part of PTN’s torrent index:

PTN Torrent Index

As we mentioned earlier this is a ratio free tracker – PTN doesn't want you to maintain a minimum global ratio like most other private torrent sites. Traditional global upload:download ratio is easily replaced by the ‘gold’ system – which is a seed bonus system variant only way too cooler :p (to learn more about it, read FAQ and rules after joining PTN).

PTN has one of the most customized user interfaces ever – you probably won’t see anything like it elsewhere. Apart from the layout it’s packed with lots of small features such as arcade, blackjack, pirate galleries, pirate’s notes box, three separate browse pages for movies/TV/OST and so on. Even when it comes to ‘Gold’ there are some interesting site features just waiting to be discovered. For example when browsing the torrent index you might come across a set of yellow colored icons next to a torrent’s name. These indicate the currently active enhancements for that particular torrent such as 2x, 3x, 5x gold multipliers, random category bonus, filled request, ‘staff pick’ and so on.

Being a private community, PTN is almost never open to public signups. One of their more popular methods of new member recruitment has been the external invite application. PTN invite applications were explained and discussed in some detail in our previous review of the site. Before you complain about the whole process, we suggest you read the comments to that article which includes responses by users as well as PTN Staff.

Note that open invite applications won’t last forever – they usually close in ~2 days.

Site Name: PTN

Invite Application URL: http://*********.***/comeandplay.php (do not use ‘www’ in the address)

Note: PTN tracker rules prohibit displaying full tracker URL in public so only the location of the invite application was given (../comeandplay.php). Do not ask for full tracker URL or post it here.

In addition to open invite apps, double upload is also enabled for all torrents on site. One of their pioneering staff members stepped down and it seems PTN have enabled 2X upload in tribute:

As a gift to the users before he left, aFTERMATh managed to break in the 2xUpload button. It will be at least 3 days before we get it fixed, so happy leeching, its an early christmas present!

2X upload too will remain active for another ~2 days. If you want to get in and earn some gold, now is a perfect time :)

    I agree with the idea of STAFF inviting you - by some sort of recruitment process - IRC interview or application like this, or tracker recruitment...it is the safest way and also gives worthy people a chance to join instead of being, a lot of the time, "lucky" to know someone with an invite.

    Other than that, I would only trust being invied by a small number of known, tried and tested trusted torrenters and/or my VERY closest bt friends.

    That is an excellent online application too. Best I've seen. So well-worded, can easily sort out who they'd want from who they wouldn't.

    paul, that comment surely is going to be removed. I hope you never get into PtN if you aren't, and that your fate will one day be a ban if you already are. You don't respect them and therefore don't deserve respect back from them. I wonder if you violate significant rules of any trackers you yourself are at.

    Its okay Carl im not a member and doent really have the time to be going through the application process. For movies its awesome HD and for music its what.cd and i respect both of those sites greatly.

    Error
    You have already applied on 2009-05-03 15:45:53.

    i took my time to fill those silly questions out, waste of time if you ask me

    Very thorough application, glad they did it online instead of IRC. Hhope I get accepted :) Thanks FNB!

    "Provide 4 profile links and screenshots of your most used trackers. You have one chance! Post BOTH links and images. Do not blur out anything, applications with blurred out details will be rejected."

    What if you don't want to give information that isn't relevant?

    I agree with paul, this is too elitist for what it is, but they're free to be so if that's what they want. But insisting their URL not be posted shouldn't apply to non-members such as paul. Think about this - how did paul find it out? save this gesture of respect for trackers that are elite, not those that act elite.

    This tracker isn't any good. It doesnt have anything all the other 1920491 so-called "0day" trackers have..

    Just get a TL/sparvar/stn/etc invite.

    altho i wouldn't recommend p2l-stn

    when it come to torrenting speed and availability count, i would love to get onboard but it sure looks stressful so am gonna stick with IPT which is the fastest tracker around

  10. DP // 11/18/2009 07:46:00 AM

    yeah , I interview for jobs not torrent sites that are illegally spreading files. Thats like having to interview for being the driver in a bank heist. Ptn is a joke along with any other site that wants to interview u.

    On one hand, I like the idea that anyone who is willing to work at it can get an invite - very democratic. The bit I don't get is all the private information they need; why do they need references from other parts of your life? Sorry guys, but that doesn't look good against your own obsessive privacy requirements. I'm even wondering if this is a bluff, and they're testing your ability to keep a secret. Perhaps if you spill all the beans in your desperation to get in, you fail!

    there hasn't one decent tracker posted here this month. this place is fallin apart. i think im gonna check out some invite forums.

  13. Lightning_Struck_Tower // 11/18/2009 11:37:00 AM

    @SW1,
    In the last week alone we've posted about Docs.Torrents.Ro, TorrentVault, Zamunda etc. If by your standards these are not 'decent trackers', this blog indeed will be useless to you.

  14. Unknown // 11/18/2009 02:19:00 PM

    SW1 you've got to be kidding me. Go check out some forum if you must I guarantee it with comments like yours it will not be as fruitful a place as this.

    thank you filenetworks for your articles and your tweets :P

    "PTN may not be as popular as other specialized movie trackers but that doesn’t mean it’s crap."

    Well it might not be crap,but it certainly isn't a very good tracker either,one of my friends used to be a member there,and he actually offered me the account,the speeds aren't that impressive and the contents isn't that great,the community isn't that bad,but for the way they threat you with their application just doesn't worth it...if it's a solid movie tracker you are looking for then CN would be a much better choice...

  16. bucky // 11/18/2009 08:27:00 PM

    not meaning to be negative but how is someone supposed to try to take up this invite offer if they are new to the scene and are not in any way affiliated with either columbo, maverick, cagney and lacey or insert{any cheesy 70s/80s detective(s) you care to mention here} and you do not display the full sign-up url? This is the 3rd time you have posted about this site and i have no idea how to try out for it, given the full url is not allowed to be posted. Obviously theres plenty of ppl here who know what PTN is and the url...i only wish i had enlisted in scooby doo's mystery team when i was younger, i would have stood a far better chance of solving the "case of the mystery url".

  17. TEAM FILEnetworks // 11/18/2009 11:32:00 PM

    @bucky,
    Believe me we'd like to post the URL and be done with it as much as you do. But here's the deal - if we do that we'll be openly breaking a tracker rule in front of thousands of readers.

    We have to respect trackers wishes so that's why we refrain from posting the URL. Hope you can understand our situation. As for why such a rule exist, I'm sure PTN's admins have very good reasons for that.

    @chron,
    thanks for the compliments mate and nice to hear you follow on Twitter :)

    Heard about the site ages ago.. so off I went filling the form. The first couple of questions, I had no problem with, then I came across this question.

    "
    Provide at least 2 links and profile screenshots to your most used community sites that are not torrents related."

    C'mon.. I guess they have to very careful who the let in, but c'mon. what do they need with this information. I might be paranoid.. SECRET - Police.. lol. Not worth the hassle. Geez.

  21. Anonymous // 11/19/2009 05:38:00 AM

    I stopped filling out the questionnaire at that point as well. They ask for way to much info, not worth the security risk IMO.

    THis is becoming weirder every second i think abou it. I filled the so called application. (Yes i was very suspicious of it, but curiosity overcame me) So i got the invite email but the links in it are flagged by firefox because it has an invalid certificate).

    should i go ahead with it?

  25. fred // 11/20/2009 01:24:00 PM

  26. Dan // 11/21/2009 02:33:00 AM

    @john & fred:
