We bring you hot news from ScienceHD – if you were looking forward to get into this awesome Science Fiction & documentary torrent tracker, this could be your lucky day. SHD have made some changes to their policy on new member recruitment and have opened up to the public. That’s not to say the site is open for registration – but interested members are now able to apply for a free invite through an online forum which has been made available by SciHD staff. Good news here is that the invite apps do not seem to be designed to screw members who are new to torrenting. If you have a genuine interest in sciences, science fiction or documentaries and plan to be an active member of this community (not just a collector), you actually have a pretty good chance of getting in.

A lengthy new post on the site homepage explains the recent changes:

Good news, everyone!

After lengthy discussions, we've decided to reverse ourselves on the position that we recently established, regarding how hard it's going to be to get into ScienceHD. We initially decided to go into lockdown in large part due two reasons: the abuses of many of our users, and security risks. Our ultimate goal is the sharing of knowledge, though, so this was a very hard choice to make, and we're very glad to be able to open up again. We've been hard at work behind the scenes, implementing new security features and reorganized things, and these new changes have alleviated many of our previous concerns regarding security and bad users, among other things.

Now, ScienceHD won't be fully open registration, though. Here is how things will now stand:

  • There will be a questionnaire, open to all interested parties, to sign up with. Unlike our Gravmas event, this invite questionnaire will always be open. It will be reviewed manually by staff to decide whether an invitation will be extended.
  • All registration and invite-sending will be subject to the Max User limit, although this will be raised and kept at a generally high level. No invites or registration will be allowed if the number of enabled users exceeds this value, with the exception that:
  • PhD's and above will be able to send invites at any time.
  • However, invites will remain fairly hard to get. They'll be given out for competition rewards, for notable contributions to the site, and possibly available for purchase at a high price in the future.

Now go forth, and multiply!

If you haven’t heard about SHD before, it’s a gazelle based private torrent tracker that specializes in Science Fiction and documentaries. To know additional information about this site including features, screenshots, category details, rules, etc please refer to our previous reviews located here and here.

The invite applications should come in handy as there hasn’t been a open signup for this tracker in the recent past. Last time invite apps were opened was in December 2009, several months ago.

Amazing haha.. I got turned down and i actually love science. And i watch like 2 or more hd documentaries a day.. and i gave them 3 profile links with the least ratio of 7:1 and being a former scenetorrents member wasnt good enough for them, But the plus is it said if i can find a invite i can get in like that, I wont bother now, there loss in a good member and donations.

That's because we don't care about your ratio elsewhere, nor do we care about whether you'd donate (We don't accept donations anyway).
What we care about is your answers, yours answers were very poor!

Personally, I think SS9 is taking the correct stance here. A high ratio elsewhere, and willing to donate doesn't mean a user will be good for SciHD. Who says your donations elsewhere weren't to just buy ratio? Who's to say you didn't CHEAT your ratio?

I imagine SS9's goal here is to create a fun, active community where the users all share a common love to Science.

Well-written article. I have applied and put in some really obscure/cult stuff I like so they should hopefully approve my application.

For others coming here from http://www.reddit.com/r/trackers, hey Redditors. Narwhals eating Bacon tonight. :-)

Invite applications is a new way of filtering the type of users that will benefit others on the tracker.
Trackers today , are more of a community, than merely restricted to torrent content providers.
In a community, one realizes that it is only possible to mingle with like minded people.
Based on an individuals answer its easily evident what his/her interest are.
So an advice, chose your answers honestly,so that they reflect your interests.(it may be noted that you may actually not be interested in the content hosted on this tracker - can get it elsewhere also ...what matters more is the kinda ppl there)

Remember, its not important to collect memberships of trackers just to boast a high ratio.
Join a tracker to not only just share content, but also your thoughts n opinions (via forums n valuable comments).

I have seen many invite applications - which aim at enquiring bout your internet speed n content accessibility so as to determine whether or not you will be able to seed back .

This invite application however is aimed at establishing for a fact whether u r a science lover or not !

Kudos to science hd ,they have set their goals n priority straight .

I think i answered everything right.. I mean who here is actually going to college for some type of science ? I wath more documentaries than anything, All i wanted was a tracker that specialized in hd documentaries, But i guess i wasnt good enough to get in your low rate tracker. And you dont care about ratio anywhere? I hope you get alot of hit n runs then. I give people the chance to seed, but if theres only me and someone else seeding, I stay on the torrent. Well anyway, It's not important, your loss on a good member. =]

    @tuxarmy
Dude, chill out. It's only a tracker, not a breakup letter from your girlfriend. First of all, you sound like a "real" swell fella (sarcasm here) just b/c the staff rejected your app based on what you wrote. Second, there are PLENTY of users LIKE YOU, who just wants stuff to download but very few users who will actively contribute to the community. Like all sites, SciHD is looking for the latter and based upon what I see here without having actually read what you wrote on your app, I can guess that you're probably not what SciHD is looking for.

BTW, no one cares about how high your ratio (7:1? ...lol) is on other trackers. For one thing, its not hard to have a good ratio on site these days. If fact, if you have a bad ratio then you wouldn't be a member of those sites for long anyway. Former sct member, so what? Does that automatically make you better than everyone else, hence deserving to get into any site? Are you a "l33t" users b/c you were a former sct member? Man, get your head out of your ass!

As for Donations, it's been disabled at SciHD for awhile. Instead, members are encouraged to donate their money to a charity of their choice (like red cross). Here, it more about having a strong science community and sharing, NOT about the money.

Wow, you watch a lot of documentaries and you want to get in because you want more stuff to watch, right? Is that it? I hope that's not all you wrote for your app. Do you read and write about science? Are you working in a lab or a science major at a university (yes, there a plenty of members like that at SciHD)? Did you indicate in any form that you have more that just a passing interest in science other than being entertained by "documentaries?"

The goal at SciHD is to create a strong community where users can contribute while sharing a love for science. NOT just so we can watch documentaries.

Also, you DO realize that there are members (like me) who can invite you to the site, right? If I were to find good user who had a genuine love for science but couldn't get via app, I wouldn't mind doing a separate interview, give out the invite (which are hard to earned, BTW), and take responsibility for my invitee. But see that you're coming off as a douche here, why would anyone want to risk his/her account to take invite you.

Just so you know, you get more friend when you're nicer to people. (Yes, that applies even on the internet). Just my two cen

  17. Unknown // 3/23/2010 05:21:00 PM

BTW.. sorry to burst your bubble.. I was not a douche about anything.. And if i wanted a invite at scienceHD all i would have to do is ask one of my friends in IRC.. The problem is that i actually tried with the application, and yes i do have a love for science, I mean some of us have been to college. What ive heard is the tracker isnt all that good anyway, But i dont judge a tracker by what other people say. And when i donate i do it anonymously, I dont want a VIP or nothing, i actually seed all my ratio. As that has been said, And i hope i dont get attacked again, BTW i done a experiment and said i didnt have any tracker experiance and guess what i got right in lol. Laterz.

  18. Anonymous // 3/23/2010 09:06:00 PM

Quote tuxarmy "BTW i done a experiment and said i didnt have any tracker experiance and guess what i got right in lol"

LOL...So you're a LIAR. That's good to know, seeing how you're willing to cheat your way into any tracker (especially one where you supposely have a "friend" to invite you in anyway) I agree with Edison, from your posts, YOU ARE A DOUCHE.

  19. Anonymous // 3/23/2010 10:21:00 PM

@tuxarmyOkay, I guess I was being a jerk too so I'll off the personal attacks. I was just stating things from my perspective from reading your posts.

From your posts, it seems that you were taking your rejection of your application a bit too hard. I mean, you were stating how "you watch like 2 or more hd documentaries a day" and how "being a former scenetorrents member wasnt good enough for them" and repeatedly posted how you have a "friend" who can always give you an invite to SciHD anytime (???). Then repeatedly stated how its' SciHD loss from not accepting you for they lost a good member and potential donations.

To be honest, your words scream desperation. It doesn't help that you reapplied (as an experiment, you stated), under false pretenses to get into SciHD when it seems (to me, anyway) that you don't have interest in the site (in terms of contributing).

Aside from that, as a member of SciHD, (assuming that you, tuxarmy, did get into SciHD teh 2nd time you applied and accepted the staff invitation)I welcome you and all other new member at SciHD.
