If you are wondering what’s up with the recent downtime of movie torrent tracker CN, we have some pretty bad news. Apparently, CN has shut down its operations for good and is not coming back. This news may come as a shock for most members since there were no hints of a permanent shut down before the site disappeared off the radar. After having coordinated with CN staff for both IRC and E-Mail recruitment campaigns, we know that a lot of FILEnetworks Blog readers were members of this great movie tracker. In case you are looking for a new home for movie downloads, there are two torrent sites with content similar to CN open right now; PTN and iTS. PTN is a ratio free movie tracker and iTS is another ratioless private torrent site with a lot of unique AFR movie rips. Both these sites are open via invite applications for all users but PTN is having a special promotion for ex-CN members. More details after the jump.

First, the reasons for CN’s shut down. We don’t know of any specific reasons which prompted this decision, apart from what bumrock posted on FileSharingTalk (FST) forums:

For those that have wondered what was going on...The site will not be back. Due to personal, technical, and other unforeseen circumstances the site put on some cement shoes and is now swimming with the fishes.
Thanks to all that have helped it in the past and present!
For those that are not rejoicing, remember that this is simply one aspect of the Internet and fortunately for all of us there are other sites to go around...
From personal experience I would highly recommend iTS, PtN, and goem to fill your movie tracker void. Yes, there are others, but these are ones I am a member of and hope to see you there!
Have a great holiday season! Later!
//bum

There is no doubt that CN will be missed by it’s loyal users. At last check, the site tracked over 12500 movies torrents ranging from DVDR release to BRRips. Apart from content, it was a great community of helpful members and we know from our experience that it had good staff members who knew what they were doing. Indeed, it’s really sad to see this site go.

CN Alternative – PTN

The ratio free movie torrent tracker PTN is having a special promotion for Ex- CN members. A detailed news post explaining how this process works is quoted below:

It is indeed a sad day when a site as close to PtN as CN was has to close its doors to its members and thus leaving CN members without a place to hang their hat and call home.
But as always, when one door closes, another door opens and it is with open arms and a warm embrace that we should welcome all ex-members of CN to PtN (if they are not already here of course) and it is with great pleasure that we have enabled a quick & easy access path into PtN to make the transition as painless as possible.
1. External Apps are open for 1 extra week, and to make it real easy for any ex-member of CN to join PtN during this phase, then all they have to do is:
Ignore all the questions in the app
Let us know you were a member of CN and provide Proof of CN membership, a jpg, an email - any method works
Don't forget your email
And PtN staff will take care of the rest and send out the invite.

Note that invite applications are currently open for all readers, including non members of CN. Only ex-CN members get the special privilege of getting in without having to answer all questions in the application.

Site Name: PTN
Invite Applications URL: http://*********.***/comeandplay.php (do not use ‘www’ in the address)
Note: Posting of full tracker URL or name is prohibited by PTN rules. We are sorry about the inconvenience.

For a detailed overview of PTN including screenshots, please refer to our recent article located here. On a side note, keep in mind that FILEnetworks PTN invite giveaway No. 02 is coming soon.

CN Alternative – iTS

iTS’ a ratioless tracker that shares a lot of unique content such as AFR (Advanced Filesize Regulation - focuses more on optimal quality while keeping file size as low as possible) movie rips, lossless FLAC rips, a variety of classic collections and of course, other general content including a ton of exclusive uploads made available by the site’s internal encoders.

iTS is a closed community and you can only get in by filling and submitting the online invite application. This process is unique and we strongly recommend you read the ‘How to apply for a iTS invite’ section in our recent article which has a step by step guide on how to do it properly. Good Luck.

We are a bit late in posting this but here’s our troubleshooting article for Tron Evolution. Tron Evolution is an action/adventure game based on the movie Tron Legacy. The game was released on both PC and console platforms on the 7th of December in North America. I’ve had the opportunity to play this for a couple of hours and it seemed to be a decent action game at best. It’s definitely not Game of The Year material but fans of the Tron franchise may find the experience enjoyable. Anyway this is not a game review but our routine troubleshooting article for Tron Evolution. Unlike some of our recent troubleshooting posts, this does not include a lot of fixes but addresses only two common problems with the game; how to change screen resolution and how to properly save progress with a Windows Live offline account.

How to change resolution in Tron Evolution

In case you are having trouble setting the proper resolution for your monitor, you can manually edit the configuration file and do this. A step by step tutorial can be found below:

  1. Browse to folder Documents\Disney Interactive Studios\Tron Evolution\UnrealEngine3\GridGame\Config\
  2. Open the file GridEngine.ini with a text editor such as Notepad. Make sure you backup this file before you do any modifications in case something goes wrong.
  3. Locate the strings ResX and ResY in the config file.
  4. You can put your screen resolution values next to these strings so that the game will launch the the specified resolution.
    Example - For 1440 x 900 resolution put ResX=1440 and ResY=900
  5. Save and close the file. Now launch the game.

Note that setting a resolution unsupported by your monitor will cause black screens and crashes during launch.

How do I save progress in Tron Evolution?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions in our troubleshooting articles. Tron Evolution is a Games For Windows Live (GFWL) based title and you need access to a GFWL account in order to save game progress. But don’t worry,  in case you don’t have an online profile, you can still save the game using an offline account. Step by step instructions on how to do this is given below:

  1. Launch the game. Open the Windows Live menu (or it will open automatically, prompting you to log in or create a new account).
  2. If you are not logged into any GFWL profile continue to step 3. If you are already logged onto a profile (local or online), try launching the single player component and try to save progress. If saving and loading works fine, you obviously have no problem. If it does not work, you’ll need to sign out of the current profile before continuing to step 3 (Create profile button will only become visible when you aren’t logged in).
  3. Click on ‘Create new profile’ button.
  4. In the dialog box that pops up DO NOT hit continue. Hitting continue will take you to a registration page for an ONLINE profile – this is not the requirement.
  5. Once in the ‘Create Gamer Profile’ window, scroll down so that you can see the bottom paragraph.
  6. Look for the hyperlinked ‘created a local profile’ link in last paragraph. Clicking this will allow you to create a new offline profile.

Note that an offline GFWL account will not let you play online. But you should be able to play single player mode without any issues whatsoever. A YouTube video showing how to make an offline xlive account can also be found here.

This article will be updated if any new fixes are discovered. Feel free to share your experience/tips in comments section.

Nowadays a dozen new General/0Day torrent trackers pop up every month it’s just not news anymore. Most of these sites have the same basic layout, same set of torrents and the same set of generic users. In a world populated by thousands of well established General trackers, this is just not good enough to stay afloat – majority of these new sites die out after a couple of months due to lack of activity, funding or internal disputes. However, every once in a while there comes a new general BitTorrent tracker that shows promise – and SceneBytes (SbT) seems to be one of those rare cases. SBT is a scene only torrent tracker – the site tracks almost every scene release that is considered non spam, and at good speeds too. We’ve already seen threads relating SBT to the legendary SceneTorrents (ScT) – these rumors probably have no truth whatsoever but the site does indeed have good pre times.

SceneBytes Logo

Even before a month into their official launch, SBT has already managed to secure a user base of over 3500 registered members. This is in fact a good number for a start up tracker that’s been open for signup only occasionally. Active torrent count at SbT currently hovers somewhere around 2500 mark. Since there is a healthy flow of new daily torrents, expect this number to increase rapidly.

As we mentioned earlier, this is a scene only torrent tracker. However, it does not index each and every scene release out there – only non spam releases are uploaded. In other words, you can pretty much find on SbT all popular movie, game, e-book, music and TV shows moments after they are leaked online. In addition to common uploads available on almost any other General/0Day tracker, SbT indexes some unique packs - some of these are visible in the screenshot below:

Scenebytes Packs

For those of you who are concerned about the ‘good looks’, you’d be glad to hear that SbT has a visually pleasing design. The site features a streamlined user interface with fast, smooth navigation. The default color scheme is easy on the eye and the layout is clean and uncluttered.

During it’s lifetime of ~1 months, SbT has been occasionally opening and closing open signups. They were closed during the past week or so but have now re opened registrations ahead of Christmas. If you are looking to become part of a new General/0DAy tracker, check this site out.

It’s the Christmas season and the holiday spirit the everywhere - private torrent trackers are no exception. During this time, it’s not unusual for most BitTorrent trackers to offer their members various benefits and bonuses. Throughout this month, we will be posting a series of articles announcing whenever a private tracker opens signups or gives away some cool goodies in celebration of Christmas. Without further ado, here’s the first of these articles. This time around the good news comes from DeamonBytes, the ratio free alternative to now defunct PeerPortal. DB will be giving all of its members 100GB upload credits at some point during the month of December.

DeamonBytes

The official news post announcing the offer is quoted below:

Christmas is coming and Glen is already fat lol.
Well its that time of year again and DeamonBytes is getting all your prezzies ready.
This year we will be giving every member 100GB upload credit to help you build a ratio.
This is not an excuse to Hit and Run on torrents.
Torrents are now being monitored and warnings will be issued.
Anyway from all of the staff @ DeamonBytes MERRY CHRISTMAS.
And from me personally Thank You to all the staff and uploaders for all your hard work and support

Although DeamonBytes started out as a ratio free tracker, the global ratio is now taken into account in certain parts of the site. For example, you gain access to newest torrents quicker if you have a healthy global ratio. Otherwise, wait times are imposed. Therefore the 100GB upload credit should help everyone boost their overall upload:download stats on site, even if you had difficulties in seeding back whatever you downloaded.

It has only been a couple of months since this tracker launched but DB has already made a name for itself in the BT scene. The site now has over 10000 active members and tracks nearly 5000 torrents. For a detailed review of DeamonBytes and screenshots, we suggest you read our recent review posted here. In case you still are not a member of this tracker, registrations are currently open.

When it comes to new movie releases, 3D is the new buzzword. Nowadays, almost every new epic movie opens up with a 3D version. In a world where there are BitTorrent trackers for almost every niche, it wouldn’t be a surprise if a tracker specializing in 3D content didn’t exist.  3DBluRayISO is one such private community focused on sharing 3D videos. As you may have guessed from the name, the site focuses mainly on untouched Blu Ray ISO images of 3D movies but that’s not all it has. It has x264 encodes of retail movies (usually a HD source is used), TV rips, movie trailers as well as tutorials, technical guides, FAQs to help get 3D working in your home theatre/PC setup. 3DBluRayISO is a hybrid of a private torrent tracker and a DDL forum – registrations are currently open.

3D BluRay ISO

3DBluRayISO is a relatively new forum but the site has managed to gain a significant amount of popularity amongst the BitTorrent community. It’s only been online for a couple of weeks but has already recruited over 6500 members which is quite an achievement considering the niche 3DBRI focuses on. There are nearly 2000 threads with ~200 active torrents (tracked by their own private tracker) and a couple hundred more movies releases with DDL links (files hosted in MegaupLoad, HotFile, NetLoad, FileServe, etc).

Content on this site is rather uncommon and chances are that you won’t find these encodes on the average general tracker. Bulk of the indexed content are untouched 3D Blu Ray ISO images. While these have excellent video quality and all special Blu Ray features in tact, they are also massive in file size – the average ISO image weighs around 40GB. These encodes can be played back on most current PC/Home Theater setups, but you might need additional hardware to enjoy the full 3D experience (refer to 3D Tutorial section for more info). In case you are still unsure about the type of content tracked by 3DBluRayISO, the screenshot below should give you a pretty clear understanding:

3DBluRayISO Index

As mentioned earlier, 3DBRI is currently open for registrations. If I read their tagline correctly (“Online 3D sharing community with no exclusive BS”), they have no intention to become one of those l33t sites inaccessible by general internet population. Anyways if you love watching 3D Blu Ray movies in their full glory, check this site out.

Good news if you are looking to be a part of The Pirate Society (TPS), a file sharing discussion forum with a high focus on BitTorrent. TPS has opened registrations for the first time since their re-launch 10 weeks ago. This is usually a closed community and potential new members are required to go through an IRC interview prior to joining – with open signups, this step is now eliminated. TPS seems to be accepting both power users of BitTorrent as well as newcomers to the field. This site has had its share of problems with a lot of staff changes, domain switchovers, etc and it may not be as popular as it was about a year ago. However, TPS has survived through the turbulent times and it remains to be one of the more active new generation BitTorrent forums out there. There are plenty of invite giveaways, requests, multiple tracker requirement threads, torrent site reviews, seedbox reviews + ratings and a lot more stuff useful to the average BitTorrent user.

The Pirate Society

TPS recently announced open registrations to the world through their blog (which is viewable by general public). Quoted below is a detailed explanation on how the open signups work – this was originally posted at https://www.thepiratesociety.info/blog/?p=1098 :

Announcing to the torrent world that for the first time since we reopened 10 weeks ago, we are opening registration for new members. Here’s a quick rundown on how it works.

You may have known that in the past, TPS took in new members via an IRC interview. This interview was not only time-consuming for prospective members, but also consumed huge amounts of staff time and resources, so we are simplifying the process. If you are interested in joining TPS, just click the “Register” button on the home page. Read the rules and see if TPS is the kind of place you’d like to join, then proceed with the simple application form. After you submit it, a staff member will go over it and with luck you will receive your invite via e-mail. Please be patient – we have been going through a lot of invitations in the queue.

Please note that if you were previously disabled, do not create a dupe account (we will spot you quickly), but go into our IRC help channel (see the home page) and plead your case. If you were disabled because of inactivity, chances are you will get your account back. If you were a “Castaway” because you broke the rules, most likely you won’t be let back in. (sorry)

We especially welcome users who are new to the torrent world and need a helping hand (or two) in getting to know how it all works. The regular members will be happy to assist you. Veteran members of private trackers would also like it here, mingling with fellow established members and tracker staff. (Plus you can help guide the n00bs.) Similarly, tracker staff members are of course welcome at TPS as well.

TPS currently has 9600+ registered members (~1700 active) making it one of the larger ‘closed’ BT forums out there. Member activity is pretty good with over 50000 threads and a little over a half a million posts being made by this seemingly smaller user base. In addition to staying up to date on BitTorrent news you can request private torrent tracker invites, conduct invitation giveaways, read private tracker reviews, get the latest on seedbox services, read tutorials and even get support for your torrent site related problems on TPS. Additionally, they maintain healthy relationships with many private trackers - ~100 community reps and 75+ active official tracker recruitment threads bears witness to this.

TPS Index

As we mentioned earlier, TPS is currently open for registration. You can directly sign up for an account without having to go through an interview. However, you will need to wait until a staff member confirms your new account – this is not automatic and may take some time.

If the number of PreToMe (PTM) invitation requests we have so far received is any indication, this news is obviously going to make a lot of folks happy. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that hundreds of our readers are waiting in line to get into PTM, easily one of the best General/0Day torrent trackers in existence today (Oh, and it’s *almost* ratio free – more on this later). We used to give away monthly registration keys for this tracker a while back but the last of such keys expired in April 2009. Since then, PTM has had only one open signup and has remained a closed community for more than a year. For the folks who still haven’t managed to get in, good news is that you can now request a PTM invite directly from staff via E-mail. This is an excellent opportunity for everyone looking to be part of a great general tracker. PreToMe has a massive torrent index which points to all sorts of content ranging from movies, music, games, books, TV shows, documentaries as well as a lot of HD video content.

PreToMe Logo

PreToMe started off its operations a couple of years ago, as a spinoff of FunFile (FF) tracker. However, today it’s no longer known as a FF clone – PTM has outgrown FunFile in many departments (amount of content tracked, number of active users, etc) and has established itself as an independent entity in the BitTorrent scene. The site currently has over 17000 registered members, an active forum with over 65000 threads and an overall seeder to leecher ratio of 36 : 1.

As for the content, PTM currently indexes 40000+ torrents (~37000 active) of all types and categories. You can find all major scene and P2P releases here, in addition to over 1500 releases unique to this site. A lot of high definition content is available, including True HD uploads as well as XViD HD/BRRip/BDRip encodes by groups such as NPW, FLAWL3SS, SANTi, ViSiON and more. The screenshot below captures some of the torrent packs you can find on PreToMe:

PreToMe Index

When it comes to ratio requirements, PTM has some interesting rules. Although not officially branded as a ratio free tracker, it almost functions like one. The site’s main ‘currency’ is credits (bonus points which you earn through various activities such as seeding torrents) and global ratio requirements are very lax:

  • You must seed back to at least our requirements of 60h total seedtime OR a 0.75 ratio on each and every torrent
  • Accounts with a global ratio of 0.05 and below may be put under review for seeding improvement or disabled

And if you can’t maintain a global ratio of 0.05 on any tracker, you should be banished from the world of BitTorrent for being a pure leecher :D

How to request for a PTM invite over E-Mail

This offer is now invalid.

We didn’t see a lot of notable new trackers being launched in the past month but our routine monthly open signup update is here, as usual. This issue features 13 different private torrent sites that currently accept public registrations. Just like our previous updates, a mix of General/0Day trackers as well as niche trackers focusing on a specific set of categories are both included in the post. Regular readers of this blog should be familiar with the name CoExist (CE for short). CE is a ratio free private torrent tracker specializing in all kinds of English music. Just like most other private trackers, CE has been invite only from the start. Although there have been several invite giveaways on IRC, this has been one of those ‘shy’ trackers which didn’t prefer much publicity. Good news is that registrations have now been opened probably for the first time ever on CE and you can now create a new account without the need for an invite code and without having to go through an interview. Open signups come on the backdrop of CE v3 launch – v3 is a major site overhaul including migration to Gazelle RC2 codebase and addition of many new site features.

CoExist

As some of you may remember, CE initially launched as a Gazelle based tracker. However, ongoing problems with the codebase prompted them to move to a TBDEV based implementation. This has again been changed in CE v3 – the site is back on Gazelle RC 2 and this time around the move seems to have gone smoothly. But CE v3 isn’t all about a source change – it involves a ton of new features and enhancements, some of which you can find listed below:

Added

  • Last.FM info on your profile - includes your recently played tracks / Last.FM overview / Top 50 played artists.
  • IRC Bot providing more integrated functions
  • Announce Bot for IRC announcing both torrents and forum posts.
  • Bonus Points - You get 1 point per hour per torrent.
  • Un-Read forum post checker
  • the video tag for posting youtube video's in your profile information / forums / torrent descriptions
  • Shout Box with IRC integration

Changed

  • The Studio is now Up Beat!
  • Number of forums is now reduced to make it a little less spread out.

Planned

  • Last.FM integration on artist pages
  • Auto Tagging System
  • Ability to search and download directly from IRC
  • IRC idle bonus
  • Advanced HnR system
  • Light Theme
  • CSS Template for user created theme's and a unoffical repo of style sheets.

Even with the move, CE remains to be a ratio free torrent site. Ratio system on this tracker is more or less replaced by the ‘Fame’ bonus system. There are multiple ways you can earn fame (seeding, idle bonus etc). Once you earn enough fame, you can exchange them for various goodies or gift points to other members. Note that being ratio free does not mean you can hit and run - keep everything you download seeded for at least 3 days (72 hours) within the first 5 days and you should be fine.

CE Index

As you can see from the screenshot above, CE is an English music tracker. You can find music related to various genres and of varying quality (MP3, FLAC, etc). At the time this post was being written, it indexed over 1500 active torrents and had a user base of ~2800 members. These are just starting days for CE v3 and statistics would no doubt increase in the coming days.

Registrations for CE are currently open. According to staff, open signups would continue until they recruit 5000 members. That leaves around 2200 free slots remaining so get in while you can.

Special thanks to CE staff for the heads up.

More good news on the BitTorrent tracker invites front – our latest ACiD (AL) giveaway is here. That said, this technically is not an invitation giveaway – it’s more like a special open signup. Just like their sister site Merlin, ACiD is having a signup party through which members can instantly register for an account without having to go through interviews, invite applications or any other barriers. For those of you who haven’t heard about this tracker, AL is a veteran BitTorrent site that is almost 5 years old. It’s a community oriented tracker which indexes general/0Day releases by scene and non scene groups as well as uploads by its own internal teams. Use our special signup key posted at the end of this article to gain access to ACiD. This tracker hasn’t had an open signup in the recent past so this is an excellent opportunity for those who waited in line to get in. The key supports up to 2000 new registrations.

ACid

Acid isn’t by any means a newcomer to the BitTorrent scene. The site is set to celebrate its fifth birthday in a couple of months time, in January 2011. However, not a lot has been written about this tracker on BT forums or blogs – this is probably due AL’s strict rules regarding unwanted publicity. Despite being a closed community, nearly 20000 members have already made it their torrenting home ( this is without counting the 12k+ users who got banned from AL for various reasons). The site currently tracks around 12000 torrents, making it one of the larger general trackers out there.

No matter how old a BitTorrent tracker is, it wouldn’t be successful without a good community or a content rich torrent index. Thankfully, ACiD has both. It’s staff are some of the friendliest folks around and it has a loyal user base who are great at filling requests and helping each other out. Download speeds are pretty good and pre times are decent. And it’s worth mentioning that AL’s pre times, specially for TV releases, have definitely improved over the last couple of months. You can find pretty much all major movie, music, appz, game, ebook and other releases on this tracker. But that’s not all – in addition to common scene and p2p releases, AL tracks a lot of exclusive torrents and packs. These can usually be identified by the presence of tags ‘TeamAcid’, ‘RequestAcid’, ‘Acid’,  ‘ACID INT’, etc in torrent title.

Coming back to open signups, you can use the key below to create a free account on AL. They key supports up to 2000 new registrations and the sign up party would end once this limit is reached.

Site Name: ACiD

Signup URL: http://www.acid-lounge.org.uk/Main/?act=Signup&id=5&hash=a8f0df47f3f9ec8c7eed518a384250ee

Special Signup Key: gefhmj

Feel free to share this key with your friends on other BT forums or blogs. However, please make sure to link to this post so that whoever is signing up will at least know which type of tracker they are getting into. This giveaway will be pointless if 2000 members who didn’t have any use for AL signed up – that would just fill the tracker with inactive members.

Special thanks to cambo for the heads up.

P.S. – Acid’s sister site, Merlin, is also open for signup via a similar promotion. In case you haven’t checked ML out, you can read about it from this location.
