Fascinated by private trackers that have tons of torrents? Check out nCore. nCore tracks a huge number of movies, music, games, E-books, TV shows and other general content (both English and Hungarian) in its massive torrent index. Good news is that this veteran Hungarian BitTorrent tracker has opened invite applications probably for the very first time since its launch several years ago. nCore is not a site that has had an open signup in recent history – so invite applications are probably the next safest way to get into this awesome tracker without having to risk trading or any other forms of scams. The invite application is one of the simplest of such forms we’ve ever seen and should only take a couple of minutes to fill out. nCore staff seem to respond to successful applications pretty fast and provided that your app gets accepted, you should receive an invite usually within several hours after applying (this may change depending on the number of requests they receive).

When it comes to the number of torrents tracked, there are very few private trackers on this planet that can rival the size of nCore’s torrent index. As of 10/10/2010, this tracker had over 88000 torrents (79000 active) pointing to files of all shapes and sizes. We don’t exactly know how many registered users there are on the site (that stat does not seem to be public) but judging by the amount of seeds and leechers on new torrents and the amount of active torrents on site, this number could be well above 50k (EDIT: They in fact have 138000+ members – thanks akos and Legycsapo for pointing it out).

nCore is a private tracker with its roots in Hungary. Unsurprisingly, there are a number of releases here that are native to the country i.e. movies dubbed in Hungarian, local TV shows etc. However, it’s a useful tracker to have even if you are an English speaking user – there are tons of torrents here that point to English releases such as US and UK released movies, TV shows  games and more. nCore’s complex search feature lets you filter between Hungarian and English releases very easily (tick the categories ending with /EN if you are only searching/browsing for English content) :

nCore Search

The only drawback English speaking users might face is the layout –  site interface is completely in Hungarian and there’s no option to switch it to English. However, everyone should be able to find their way around the site without the need for a translator – nCore has pretty much the same layout as any other private tracker.

nCore Releases

As mentioned earlier, nCore is a General/0Day tracker – you can pretty much find any type of content here, including scene releases as well as P2P originated uploads. There are a number of packs indexed as well – some of these are however take from other trackers such as TL, ScT, etc. This is a ratio based site but maintaining a good ratio is not that hard thanks to the activity on site. A bonus system also exists to help those who struggle with ratio requirements.

Coming back to the invite applications, nCore has one of the simplest invite apps ever. There are only 5 fields to fill, and even there you don’t have to write much.

Site Name: nCore (http://ncore.cc)

Invite Application URL: Visit http://ncore.cc/login.php and click on Meghívó igénylés

Tips:

Following are some tips we gathered by translating the invite application text. Hungarian readers - please feel free to correct us if there are any mistakes (use the comments section).

  • Clearly specify your internet connection speed in the relevant field – ex. 2mbps upload, 1mbps download
  • Multiple submissions will get you banned
  • Summarize why you need an invite in 2-3 sentences in the relevant field. This will greatly increase your chances of obtaining an invite.
  • It may take up to 2-3 days for your invite application to be processed.

Translation – Form Fields:

Field Name (Hungarian) English Translation
E-mail cím You E-mail address
Internet szolgáltató ISP Name
Internet sebesség Upload/Download Speed
Miért Why do you seek an invite to nCore?
A képen látható kód Captcha code

Two things that go hand in hand with BitTorret, DDL Forums, private trackers, scene releases, etc are Pre Channels and Tracer services. Through Pre channels, you can get instant updates when new scene releases are leaked online. Through Tracer (short for Torrent Racer) channels, you can know which private trackers were the first to index such releases in their torrents databases. Most of the Pre and Tracer services that exist today are based on IRC – while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with IRC channels, not all people like to idle on these and execute commands to look up releases, although this isn’t remotely hard as it sounds. If you prefer web based services as opposed to IRC based ones, here’s something you might like. Pre and Tracer facilities provided by G2x3KS are simple, easy to use and can be used by anyone with a web browser.

Web based tracer

How G2x3KS’s Pre and Tracer services work is pretty straightforward and there’s nothing really to explain at all. The ‘Pre’ section of the site indexes the most recently pre’d scene releases. Each entry contains the following information; Time (time of pre), Section (category), Title (title of release), Size (release size) and Raced (has any private tracker uploaded this release yet). Clicking on the title of any item will take you to a detailed description of the release, which usually contains a full NFO, screenshots (if it’s a movie, TV show, etc) and a list of private trackers that ‘raced’ and first had a torrent version uploaded. This page usually looks similar to the one shown in screenshot below:

Release Page TS 3

The Pre version of the site functions exactly as the Trace mode, only difference being that it displays race information in the main index itself. Each entry in the trace page has an additional ‘torrents’ field, depicting the number of private trackers that already index a torrent version of that particular release.

In both modes, only the last 100 or so scene releases are listed – you cannot browse for older releases which I found to be a minor drawback. However, there is an easy to use search function for both Pre and Tracer modes, which proved to be pretty useful when looking up an older release.

Anyways don’t let us bore you any further – go right ahead and check the site out for yourself.

News about this site seems to be spreading pretty fast – I already saw a thread about this on FST (posted by iLOVENZB) and several of our readers had sent us hat tips about this as well. It’s a useful service and let’s hope it lasts long.

If you are looking for IRC based public pre and tracer channels, check out our recent post about Corrupt-Net, a P2P friendly IRC network open to all.

After yesterday’s news about iTS opening invite applications, here’s yet another powerhouse of a torrent tracker extending its reach to new members – Torrent Damage has re-opened their invites channel and interested users can now apply for an invite through IRC. For those of you who haven’t heard about this site before, TD is a huge General/0day torrent tracker that’s been around for ages. The site tracks pretty much everything ranging from scene released movies, TV shows, games, music to non scene releases and exclusive packs and maintains a database of over 50000 torrents. TD used to occasionally open signups back in the old days but as far as we know there hasn’t been an open registration ever since TD v2 launch a couple of years ago. This is where the IRC invite channel comes in – it’s a safe way to get your hands on a Torrent Damage invite, without having to risk invite trading or falling victim to similar scams.

Torrent Damage Logo

A popular tracker from the start, Torrent Damage went through a lot of changes when TD v2 was launched. v2 brought in a brand new visual design as well as a number of new features to the site, with speed and ease of use being two of the most notable enhancements. TD has grown throughout the years and today it’s a huge tracker by any standards, with nearly 50000 registered members and over 57000 indexed torrents.

Speaking of the content, Torrent Damage is a General/0Day torrent tracker which might appeal to both novice and power users of BitTorrent. The site indexes almost all major scene and p2p releases daily, at pretty fast pre times too. Download speeds and torrent retention is also good thanks to the large user base. Apart from individual torrents, quite a few exclusive packs have been uploaded to the tracker as well (some of which can be seen in the screenshot below) – packs unique to Torrent Damage usually have –TD at the end of torrent name.

Torrent Damage Index

As said earlier, Torrent Damage is currently closed for signups. However you can easily get into this tracker by requesting an invite from the official invites IRC channel (this might not continue for long – even this channel was closed for an extended period of time in the last couple of months). Follow the instructions below to request for a TD invite:

Information removed at the request of Torrent Damage staff. Apparently the sheer number of users who tried to join their channel after reading this post was crashing their IRC server. And staff were having a difficult time trying to deal with the increased number of requests. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused - congrats to those who got in.

Make sure to always follow channel rules - do not spam or PM anyone without permission. And please be patient since there may be delays in the process due to the large number of requests received by TD staff.

Special thanks to Bugatti for the heads up.

Here’s something we though we’d never see – iTS opens to external users via invite applications. This elusive private torrent site that some might call a ‘secret’ tracker, is currently recruiting new members though their own recruitment forum probably for the first time since the launch three years ago. iTS’ a ratioless tracker that shares a lot of unique content such as AFR (Advanced Filesize Regulation - focuses more on optimal quality by preserving source transparency while keeping filesize as low as possible – explained in detail later) movie rips, lossless FLAC rips, a variety of classic collections and of course, other general content including a ton of exclusive uploads made available by the site’s internal encoders. Despite tight rules regarding publicity, iTS showing the world they can still recruit members while not opening public signups. With invite applications online, you will no longer have to beg for invites from random strangers – if you have at least some experience in the BitTorrent scene, then you have a good chance of getting accepted as an iTS member.

    iTS Logo

For those of you who haven’t heard about iTS before, it’s not a completely new tracker. In fact, they are celebrating the site’s 3rd birthday so staff and Sysops are quite experienced in what they do. From the start, iTS has been a private tracker that does not prefer publicity – there are a number of rules in place that prevent members from exposing full site name or URL in public. These rules and the lack of open signups and invites make iTS quite a hard torrent site to get into – however, that doesn't mean it’s a ghost town with only several hundred members either. iTS currently has ~1100 active members who do a great job of keeping the sites 4700+ torrents alive and well seeded.

Some of you might be wondering what sort of content iTS has to offer. Although it does not focus on a specific niche, this is not an average General/0Day tracker full of common scene releases either (only a handful scene releases are indexed). Most of the listed torrents are exclusive uploads by the site’s internal encoders. In addition to general releases, iTS has three types of unique content that you probably won’t find anywhere else; AFR Rips (both new and old movies), iTS Collections (mainly cinematic classics and award winning films) and Lossless Music. If you are wondering what AFR rips are, the following explanation should put you in the clear:

The term 'AFR' stands for Advanced Filesize Regulation; it's a set of criteria which can be employed to accomplish DVDR-sized rips. The big difference about AFRs when compared to normal movie rips is you get the highest resolution and bitrate for the smallest possible size. It's all about maintaining source transparency while keeping filesize as small as possible; image quality is retained to almost 100% and sound quality is identical to the original.

The specific AFR sizes employed at iTS are:
1/6 DVDR: 0.73 GB (0743 MB or up to 0747 MB with subs)
1/4 DVDR: 1.09 GB (1116 MB or up to 1120 MB with subs)
1/3 DVDR: 1.46 GB (1490 MB or up to 1494 MB with subs)
1/2 DVDR: 2.19 GB (2236 MB or up to 2241 MB with subs)
2/3 DVDR: 2.92 GB (2984 MB or up to 2988 MB with subs)
3/4 DVDR: 3.28 GB (3358 MB or up to 3362 MB with subs)
1/1 DVDR: 4.37 GB (4478 MB or up to 4482 MB with subs)

Going beyond a regular private tracker, iTS basically a ripping school where all members can learn how to do proper FLAC rips and x264 AFR encodes, for both DVDRips and BDRips.

As mentioned earlier, iTS is a ratioless private tracker. The site’s main ‘currency’ is a karma bonus points system – you can earn bonus points by seeding, downloading, uploading torrents or by filling requests. These points can then be exchanged for goodies in the iTS Marketplace. According to the site’s administrators, you don’t need to own a seedbox to survive on iTS – if you are an active member (not a collector) who can keep the torrents seeded, you will do just fine:

We are a no ratio site and have a karma bonus system, so it's a friendly environment for non-seedbox users and also users with slow connections. We favor long seeding periods over brief seedbox usage. We are only looking for active people who will actually use the site and who are specifically interested in the kind of content we offer (e.g. quality content over RARed scene crap).

Due to the tracker’s secretive nature and the number of rules in place to prevent public exposure, we can’t talk much about it here or attach any screenshots. However, we believe we have given enough information about iTS so that you now know what type of tracker it is before attempting to hunt for invites. If you are interested in applying for an invite, follow the steps below:

How to apply for an iTS invite

    1. Register on iTS recruitment forum located at http://its-apps.co.cc. Direct link to registration page is http://bit.ly/itsregister.
    2. Log in and read the invite applications guidelines at http://bit.ly/itsguidelines
    3. Create a new topic in the Applications forum, with the title ‘iTS Application’. The applications forum direct link is http://bit.ly/itsapplications. Make sure to include answers to all questions, as mentioned in the app guidelines page.
    4. Wait for staff approval – if you are selected, an invite will be sent to the E-mail address you specified. Good Luck!

Special thanks to the iTS staff for their support and humbleness.

Part of reporting about private torrent trackers include keeping watch on new developments and notable new features added to sites we already covered. Through this post, we bring you news from two BitTorrent trackers featured a couple of weeks back – Wunza and SceneVids. Wunza, a Gazelle based ratio free movie torrent tracker, has launched its next major tracker overhaul dubbed Wunza v3. This update includes some great visual features, making Wunza one of the best looking specialized movie trackers around. Meanwhile SceneVids, the new music video torrent tracker, didn’t waste too much time to roll out a newer version of their site either. SceneVids v2 is based on a new source and brings stability fix, a better look and better navigation to this promising looking torrent site. Detailed information about each update may be found below:

    Wunza
    Wunza
Wunza launched v2.1 of their site earlier this year. This was a major update which included both visual changes and brought in a lot of site changes including the switch to a ratio free based model. v3 on the other hand is mainly focused on changes to visual elements. It might not sound like a huge deal but the site really does look great in the new layout. The IMDB style movie view introduced in v2.1 has been further enhanced and pretty much everything else including top and bottom toolbars, forums, etc have been given a polished new look. The site also feels a lot faster to navigate. Either way this will not be the last update to Wunza - we hear that the site’s coders have already started work on v4, which will be built on a completely new source (not Gazelle, TBDEV, etc).
    Wunza Movie View
Registrations for Wunza are currently closed. It was mentioned in the v3 rollout that the site would never have public open signups again. However, interested members can still get in through the IRC interview channel:

    Invites Channel Direct Link: http://wunza.ws:9090/?nick=&channels=interview

    SceneVids
    SceneVids
Some of you might remember SceneVids, a new music video torrent tracker we featured a couple of weeks ago. Although the site is less than a month old, staff wasted no time in releasing the next major tracker update, SCV v2. v2 is built on a completely new source and brings a lot of changes to the table. In addition, the site has managed to almost triple its registered user base to 3000 since our last mention of it two weeks ago. The number of active torrents has also increased t0 600 – that’s 250 new music videos added in two weeks (which is pretty good for a niche tracker).
    SceneVids index
Although a private community, SceneVids is currently open for signup. Check this site out if you are into music videos – a full review of the tracker may be found here.

We’ve been constantly featuring new BitTorrent trackers in the last couple of weeks and as a result our DDL forums section was almost completely forgotten. To make up for the lack of updates in this segment, here’s a cool forum with some really unique content. Retromags is a DDL forum specializing in old video game magazines – yeah you heard correct, their goal is to digitally preserve popular video gaming related magazines (issued prior to 1999), for a new generation to enjoy them. Some of you might argue, what’s the point of reading magazines that are ages old – well if you are a true fan of video gaming (PC or Console), you’d want to revisit the golden age of gaming back in the 1980s and 1990s. Content on Retromags is pretty unique – I know only one other site (Out of Print Archive - await detailed review later) that indexes similar type of material. If you want to read some classic scanned magazine issues, check this site out.

    Retromags

For those of you are hearing about this site for the first time, following description quoted from the ‘About’ page should give a quick understanding on what Retromags is all about:

Our mission is to preserve video game magazines from our past for the future generations to enjoy. While this site is small, our ideas and motivation are huge. We aim to not only digitally preserve these magazines, but also to provide you with as much information as we can on these publications. We pour our hard work into creating these digital magazines so that you can get that feeling of nostalgia when you read an article you haven't seen in 20 years. We fully support the magazine industry and as such, we do not provide anything besides a cover for post 1999 material.

This is not the first time Retromags is featured here on FILEnetworks Blog. We posted an article about the site back in 2009 – lots of changes have happened since then and we felt that it deserved another mention. First thing you will notice is that Retromags now comes with a more polished look and easy to use interface. For example, the downloads section is now easily accessible from the top toolbar itself. It’s not only the looks that have changed since 2009 – lots of new content has also been added. RM now indexes over 700 full magazines, probably making it the largest repository of Classic gaming mags on the planet.

    Retromags Index

As you can see from the screenshot above, magazines are grouped into three main categories – US published, UK published and International releases. Each of these have sub categories, under which multiple issues of a particular magazine are indexed. A wide selection of mags ranging from now discontinued Atari Age, Blip, Mega to early issues of Electronic Gaming Monthly, Computer Gamer, etc can be found here. Most of the releases appear to be scanned issues in .CBR format (How to open CBR files) – note that these are full magazines with all pages intact. Verified download links are listed in the download page of each magazine – these usually point to one click hosting sites such as Megaupload. I did not come across any broken links on this site yet.

Retromags is a private community – you need to login in order to enjoy full benefits of the site. Public registrations however are currently open. If you are interested, a free account can be created any time.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 – How to change game settings

Like most PC games released nowadays, you can’t configure a lot of settings while in-game. This however can be done prior to launch, with the help of the settings application in PES 2011 installation directory. This utility however does not automatically pop up the first time you launch the game so many people don’t even know of it’s existence. To launch the settings utility, do the following steps:

    • Navigate to PES 2011 installation folder on your hard drive (Default is C:\Program Files\KONAMI\PES 2011)
    • Locate the file settings.exe and run it. You should now be able to change various game settings, including screen resolution and controller settings.

Ever since it saw the light several years ago, the DivX/Xvid video codecs have been hugely popular, especially among those who download movies and TV shows over file sharing networks. However, with the advent of higher fidelity encoders such as x264, some argue that the Xvid format is dying. But if you look at download statistics on most private torrent trackers, you’d see that the number of downloads for Xvid encodes of a release still greatly outnumber x264 encodes or untouched DVD/Blu Ray versions. In other words, Xvid still alive and kicking. TinBoxTorrent is a brand new private tracker that attempts to utilize the popularity of Xvid encodes – it’s a site that mainly caters to Xvid movies and TV shows with the main focus on BRRip and BDRip releases. TBT is probably the first site to prioritize or these relatively new Blu Ray rip formats and it starts out as a ratio free tracker. The site is still new but it definitely has the potential to succeed.

    TinBoxTorrent

This is probably the first time you hear about TinBoxTorrents – it’s only been a few days since the launch (opened on 25th September 2010) and it hasn’t received any media attention so far on BitTorrent forums and blogs. Currently there are only 78 registered members on the tracker but this number is expected to go up once this article goes live and as the news of TBT spreads around the BitTorrent community.

The amount of torrents however is a different story. TBT starts off with around 275 active torrents. It appears that these torrents are seedbox hosted and has decent download speeds. Uploaders will however need to improve the rate which new torrents are added to the tracker (we know, this is easier said than done). As mentioned earlier, TBT is a movie/TV tracker with both Xvid and HD video formats including x264 encodes. Their ultimate goal seems to become a tracker which specializes in BRRip and BDRip torrents. A screenshot of  part of the the torrent index can be seen below:

    TinBoxTorrent Index

According to the site’s owner, TBT starts off without ratio rules in a bid to promote the tracker. They might however switch to a ratio based model later – even so, we are told that site wide free leech will be activated for at least 7 days every month.

Signups for TBT are currently open. All newly registered members will get 5 freeleech slots, 1 invite and 200 bonus points upon signup. As for closing comments, this clearly isn’t a site that can challenge the movie repositories of TL, IPT or PTP yet – but it definitely is off to a good start and as we said earlier, has the potential to succeed.

“The age of NTorrents is over, the age of PWNNetwork is just beginning” – this line was quoted from an E-mail sent from PWNNetwork to existing nTorrents members. Long time readers of this blog should be familiar with nTorrents, a private tracker that specializes in Nintendo console games. Several weeks ago, NTorrents staff revealed plans to shut down the site and launch a brand new tracker; PWNNetwork aka PWN. It was announced that instead of limiting itself to a single console, this tracker will index video games across multiple platforms, including games for both PC and other consoles. For those who eagerly awaited the launch of PWN, here’s some good news – the site has launched and is currently in public beta. These are still early days but already everything seems to be functional despite the occasional minor glitch. PWN is currently not open for signup but all existing nTorrent members should have received an invite (in fact, they should have received two).

    PWNNetwork

PWN’s public beta phase commenced about a week ago, back in September. A detailed post on the launch can be found on nTorrents homepage:

PWN Network (The Network) is opening with a public beta phase. During this phase the site should be fully functional, but please, don't hesitate to report any weirdness or quirky code. We will be adding features and functionality to the site, and it doesn't always work perfectly.
We, the staff, would like to give a big thanks out to those that participated in the double upload credit purchases, in the raffles, and in general site donations. We could not have done this without your support.
Where we go depends on bringing in new users, new staff, and new code. The future of the network is bright, and vibrant.
Invites: 2 were sent out, only the second one will work. The first ones were sent in error and please disregard them.
Stats Transfer: If you want your stats to transfer please signup using your NTorrents username and email. This should happen automatically, if it does not, go to http://pwnnetwork.net/transferdb.php please note this should only be done once.
Freeleech: PWNNetwork is currently on freeleech.

Hard core NT users would be glad to know that there’s an option to transfer their stats over to the new site – it was earlier announced that everything will get reset with the migration.

    PWNNetwork Torrents

Just like nTorrents, PWNNetwork is built on Gazelle codebase. The default theme and layout of the tracker is very similar to that of nTorrents. In addition to the regular features, there appears to be several new enhancements on PWN including ‘The Marketplace’, a seed bonus system, new notice system as well as SSL support.

Although still in beta, this tracker has already managed to recruit several thousand active members. As of 10/1/2010, PWN had a registered user base exceeding 3200 members. Additionally, the site tracked 230+ active torrents under Xbox, Xbox 360, Apps, Game Guides, Original Soundtrack, Movie, Wii, GameCube, Nintendo DS, PS3, Retro/Arcade, PC, mac, PSP and PS2 categories.

PWNNetwork is currently closed for signup and there is no other form of recruitment available (yet) apart from invites. However, all existing nTorrents members should have received two invites to the tracker – if you are registered on NT, check your E-mail including the spam folders (these were sent out about a week ago).Given the history of nTorrents, it’s likely that PWN too would at some point have open signups (or IRC recruitment) – you can of course count on us to report the news when this happens.

We’re probably a little late on this one but here goes. It’s been a few days since FIFA 11 has been released and from the amount of E-mails we’ve received over the past couples of days two things are clear; 1. FIFA 11 is a very popular game. 2. A lot of PC users seem to be pissed off about the keyboard control scheme (or how controls are mapped). This 19th installment in EA’s popular football video game is considered to be a major release for the PC as gamers now get to enjoy the same next generation graphics engine used in XBOX and PS3 versions of the game. Anyways here’s a mini troubleshooting article for FIFA 11- this post mainly addresses console woes and settings issues a number of folks seem to be experiencing.

How do I change game settings?

Although you might not see it at first, FIFA 11 includes a separate configuration utility application through which you can change display settings, video resolution, map keyboard keys, controller and audio settings. This can be accessed from the start menu (Games –> FIFA11-> Game Settings) – in case you didn’t get the start menu entry, follow the steps below to launch the configuration utility.

    1. Navigate to FIFA 11 installation directory on your hard disk.
    2. Go inside the ‘Game’ folder.
    3. Find and run the file fifaconfig.exe

Cannot run FIFA 11 configuration/settings application

If you followed the steps above and the configuration utility did not launch (or gave an error), it could be something to do with not having the proper version of Microsoft .NET framework installed. FIFA 11 requires Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 – you can download this (free) from this location. Note that having a higher version installed (ex. v4.0) does not solve this issue.

How do I change keyboard key bindings in FIFA 11?

This is perhaps the most asked question related to this game. Although the PC version of FIFA 2011 is ‘allegedly’ optimized for the PC, it’s keyboard control scheme is mapped based on the XBOX360 gamepad. That is, a keyboard key is mapped for each function available in a X360 gamepad. Refer to screenshot below for more information:

You can change the key bindings by running the configuration utility (fifaconfig.exe – see above) and switching to the In-Game Keyboard tab. This is obviously a very user-unfriendly approach and some people might not be aware what exactly those XBOX360 buttons do.  Here are some of the common functions served by X360 buttons:

    • A - Lob, Cross, Sliding tackle
    • S - Pass. Standing Tackle
    • D – Shot
    • W - Switch player, Trigger Run
    • E – Sprint
    • X - Throw ball
    • C - Stop the ball, Pace control

Above was based on this EA forum entry.
