When The Dark Syndicate (TDS) entered the BitTorrent scene several months ago (September 2009 to be precise) , it quickly grabbed the attention of veteran torrenters. This was largely due to the fact that TDS had a strong connection with Araditracker, a BitTorrent legend. Although by no means a reincarnation of Aradi, TDS had many ex Araditracker staff members among its crew. It started out as a General tracker with a focus on community and TDS has by now expanded into a fully fledged private torrent site with the addition of new features including an autouploader bot, a fully functional ratio free tracker implementation and several other community features such as IRC channels and radio. If you are still not a member of this site here’s your chance to become one. We are giving away a limited number of invitation codes on a first come, first served basis.

The Dark Syndicate

When TDS initially launched, it didn’t prefer much publicity. The site didn’t stay open for long and became invite only after a short period of time. Focus was to build a tracker with a tight knit community, with preference given to active users rather than tracker collectors. Now, around six months since launch, TDS’s active user base hovers around 800-900 mark. They have active forums, IRC channels, a radio and in short have a pretty decent community.

Content and tracker features have also improved at TDS over time. A new autouploader bot has been added to automate and speed up the process of uploading scene releases to the tracker. The bot however was tweaked (even based on member input) to minimize uploading of spam releases – quality over quantity. The addition of autouploader does not mean TDS uploader team has retired. They too still upload to the tracker and do an awesome job at filling user requests. TDS request completion ratio currently stands at '94.59%. Some of the exclusive releases found on The Dark Syndicate can be seen on the screenshot below:

The Dark Syndicate Releases

If you aren’t aware, TDS has by now become a fully ratio free site. Users are no longer required to maintain a global ratio. They are however needed to seed back each torrent to 1:1 OR 72 hours whichever is possible. To quote TDS administration on this move:

Being a community we felt that Ratio’s and such weren’t needed to a certain extent – we are friends sharing files. We still have rules so the users who take and take and take (who should probably know better) will be reminded of the community aspect and the giving that should be done when they can.

Before we forget to mention, TDS is a family friendly BitTorrent tracker. There are no pornographic content indexed and even user Avatars are subject to certain rules; “Avatars must be safe for work, non-pornographic or semi-pornographic, and not even slightly offensive”.

As you may have already figured out, TDS is currently closed for registrations. However, you can use our exclusive invitation key to register a free account. Ratio proofs, speedtest are not required – simply sign up using the link below.

If you want to find additional details pertaining an IP address such as owner name and the country it’s registered on, you’d usually use an online service to retrieve the information. But unbelievably lazy folks among us (such as me) would prefer the use of a desktop application to get the job done with a single click – you type in the IP and the program returns the information – no browser involvement, no ads, nothing. IPNetInfo is a simple Windows application that can do just that. It can retrieve a host of information related to a single or multiple IP addresses instantly. The application is free, lightweight, does not require an installation (portable) and works with all Windows versions from Win 98 to Windows 7.

IPNetInfo

If you are curious to know how this piece of software works, an explanation is given in the app homepage:

The IP address information is retrieved by sending a request to the whois server of ARIN. If ARIN doesn't maintain the information about the requested IP address, a second request is sent to the whois server of RIPE, APNIC, LACNIC or AfriNIC.
After the IP address information is retrieved, IPNetInfo analyzes the Whois record and displays it in a table.

As an end user you’ll only see the final, formatted information organized into columns.

Another useful feature of this application is it’s ability to extract IP addresses from full Email headers. You might have received suspicious Emails claiming they were from a reputed service provider such as Google. IPNetInfo can help you verify the legitimacy of such emails – just paste the email header into the app and it’ll display detailed information about sender IP.

Download

Believe it or not this software comes in an archive file that’s only 48kb in file size.

About four months ago we reported about the launch of BIT-UNITED (BU), a new gazelle based private BitTorrent tracker which indexed releases by HD encoder group UNIT3D. After a several weeks of testing, BU ended the beta last December and their public launch was a blast. Thousands of new members joined the site within a matter of days and it soon hit the maximum user limit, bringing an end to open registrations. If you were too late back then and couldn’t create an account on this tracker, here’s a second chance; BiT-UNiT3D has raised it’s user capacity and opened the doors to the public once again. If you are interested in downloading high definition movie encodes by team UNiT3D (which are not usually found on other HD trackers), you might want to check this site out.

Bit-united

BU is actually the sister site of HD-UNiT3D which is a DDL forum run by Team UNiT3D. UNiT3d is a P2P oriented High definition movie release group comprising of over 15 encoders. If you are unfamiliar with HD-UNiT3D forum and their internal encodes, we suggest you read this post first. BU was started as a sister project of the DDL forum. It’s aim too was to offer downloads to UNITED encodes – this time using the popular BitTorrent technology as opposed to one click hosting links provided by its sibling.

During the 3-4 months it has been online, BiT-UNiT3D has recruited close to 1500 active members and managed to index over 650 torrents (that is 600+ movies). Note that all of these releases are exclusive torrents unlikely to be found anywhere else. UNiT3D releases typically come in 720p, 480p or m-HD video formats (usually in a Matroska container) and all are uploaded in UnRAR’d form.

Bit Unit3D

Apart from the  features we mentioned in our initial review, the following improvements have been made to the tracker in the last couple of months:

  • Collages added. Now all the similar movies can be grouped together.
  • Hit N Run script implemented – Official requirements to avoid a HnR now are seeding till a ratio of 1 or seeding for 72 hours.
  • New ways to earn credits   -
    • Every week a random torrent will be selected, and credits will be given to the seeders and leechers of that torrent.
      • Every Seeder - 250 Credits
      • Every Leecher - 100 Credits
    • IRC Credits - Random contests will be held thrice a day @ IRC and credits will be awarded to the winners.
    • Uploader of the month - The person with most uploads in a month will be rewarded with 2500 credits.
    • Lottery - A Lottery system will be introduced to give out credits to lucky members every month.
  • A brand new IRC server - at irc.bit-united.com supporting port 6667 or SSL port 6697

Improvements aside, it’s great to see BU still maintaining the request fill ratio we spoke of earlier. It now stands at ‘Requests Filled : 146 of 154 (94.81%)’ which is pretty awesome for any tracker.

As mentioned at the start of this article, BiT-UNiT3D is currently open for signups. The site’s current user limit has been raised to 3000 which leaves more than 1000 free slots remaining.

If you like Cartoons and animation (who doesn’t?) you’ll love this news. CartoonChoas (CC), one of the first and oldest specialized cartoon torrent trackers currently online, has opened public signups for a limited period of time. CC tracks a wide selection of toons ranging from those made in the golden age of American animation to hits in the modern era such as Family Guy. Most folks believe CC to be a general kids tracker with kids movies and live action shows but this is far from the truth. CC is a *pure* toon tracker - cartoons (both kids and mature) are the only thing you’ll ever find on this site (kids content is moved to CC’s sister site TorrentKids). Anyways it’s not everyday CC opens registrations to the public – if you were looking forward to get in, today is your lucky day.

CartoonChaos

Although a niche tracker, CartoonChaos boasts some decent statistics both in terms of users as well as torrents. As of 13/3/2010 there are around 1450 registered members and 2250+ active torrents indexed on this site. The smaller user base might be explained by constantly closed signups and regular pruning of inactive accounts – as with any tracker, you’d want to be active if you are to survive on CC.

As we stated in the first paragraph, CC is all about cartoons. The site tracks a wide range of animated content related to the following categories:

  • Cartoons : Kids, Mature Cartoons, Educational, Banned
Anime : Anime Movies, Anime Series
  • Movies : Animated Movies
  • Audio : Sound Tracks, Theme Tunes
Miscellaneous : Animated Adverts, Public Domain
  • Complete Sets
  • Applications

The number of torrents (~2200) wouldn’t look like a lot especially if you are an experienced torrenter. However, one shouldn’t forget that majority of the indexed releases are full season packs or complete series torrents which amount to a lot of content that span across hundreds of individual episodes.

CartoonChoas Screenshot

CC runs on the xbtit tracker script which is somewhat dated. Obviously, the look and feel does not have the polish found in a Gazelle based tracker but if it helps, there are about a dozen themes that you can use to customize the layout of CC.

Signups for this tracker are currently open. Howeveer we do not know for how long the doors would remain open – on the site IRC channel it’s mentioned “Signups OPEN for a short period only!!”.

Another day and another Dawn of War 2 expansion is out. First of all let us answer one of the most commonly asked questions. Do you need to have original Dawn of War 2 installed in order to play this expansion? The answer is no. Chaos Rising is a standalone expansion and it comes with a functioning version of Dawn of War 2 with all the factions and units - should be great news for hard core fans of the series. Anyway the purpose of this article is to highlight solutions for a few issues with the game which some of our readers have raised. Although Chaos Rising does not seem to be packed with bugs, quite a few people seem to be having issues related to saving progress and importing old saves. Hopefully the solutions below will help you have a nag free game play experience.

Cannot save progress in Chaos Rising – save errors and failures

Warhammer 40000 Dawn of War 2 is a GFWL (Games For Windows Live) branded game. As some of you might already know, saves in most such games are managed by the GFWL system itself and you usually need to be logged into a Live profile to save/load in-game progress. But what if you aren’t connected to internet all the time, don’t have an online GFWL account or if you don’t want to be logged into GFWL for some other reason?  Don’t worry – this doesn't mean you can’t save progress. With the use of an Windows live offline account, you’ll be able to save/load just fine. Obviously, it doesn't require an internet connection to create or log into one.

  1. Launch the game. Open the Windows Live menu.
  2. If you are already logged onto a profile (local or online), sign out (Create profile button will only become visible when you aren’t logged into anything)
  3. Click on ‘Create new profile’ button.
  4. In the dialog box that pops up DO NOT hit continue. Hitting continue will take you to a registration page for an ONLINE profile – that’s not what we want.
  5. Once in the ‘Create Gamer Profile’ window, scroll down so that you can see the bottom paragraph.
  6. Look for the hyperlinked ‘created a local profile’ link in last paragraph. Clicking this will allow you to create a new offline profile.

The method above will work with any game based on GFWL 3.1.

How to get old Warhammer 40000 Dawn of War 2 savegames working with Chaos Rising?

If you need to use your old Dawn of War 2 saved games with Chaos Rising, you need to log into the same GFWL account you were using back when you were playing the older DoW2 version. This could either be an online live account or an offline profile. We know this is an annoyance but that’s how xlive works. Even the slightest change in saved files will cause crashes or will prevent Xlive detect them as valid save files.

How to fix xlive.dll missing error and crashing at startup

Sometimes you might be greeted with the error "The program cant start because xlive.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem" and the game will crash at startup. This error usually occurs when there’s something wrong with your Games for Windows Live installation. You can download GFWL from Microsoft from this location.

Possible fixes for random crashes, crash to desktop (CTD), black screens and other issues you may face with the game

Try the following fixes – try them one by one and see if it solves the problem.

  1. If you have Anti Aliasing forced from your video card’s control panel, disable it. Have the 3D application automatically control AA – do not force it from VGA driver.
  2. Disable anti aliasing through the game configuration file. This seems to fix crashes at startup for a lot of ATI users.
  3. Open the configuration.lua file (which stores settings for Chaos Rising) with a text editor such as Notepad. This file can be found on
C:\Users\Documents\My Games\Dawn of War 2\Settings on Windows Vista/Windows 7 and C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\My Games\Dawn of War 2\Settings on Windows XP. Find the entry for antialiasing and change it’s value to 0. Save the changes, close the file and re-launch the game.
  4. If you have installed any mods or map packs, this might lead to crashes with Choas Rising. Please replace your DOW2.module with a fresh copy downloaded from Steam. Navigate to DOW2 folder in your local SteamApps directory and rename or delete the DOW2.module file. Then verify integrity of DOW 2 : Chaos Rising using the Steam client. This should restore your dow2.module file to an unaltered state.
  5. Install the latest DirectX runtime – Latest DirectX should be available in your Steam directory but if it’s not (or if you didn’t buy the game from Steam), you can download the latest monthly runtime from here. This is a standalone installer that will work in offline mode as well.
  6. Update Video card drivers –
ATI Drivers: Download the latest ATI Catalyst drivers from this link: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx
NVIDIA Drivers: Download latest official NVIDIA drivers from this link: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

TemplateP2P Surprise Open Signups

Posted by TEAM FILEnetworks | 3/12/2010 | 11 Comments »

Usually, we get to know about any upcoming open signups at TemplateP2P several days beforehand  - our good friend TJ has always been kind enough to email us and let us know. However, (as our Twitter followers may already know), TP2P suddenly announced open registrations through their Twitter feed as well as on their forums yesterday. Although this came as a surprise for many, I’m sure those who were waiting to get into this awesome forum would welcome the opportunity. If you are hearing about TemplateP2P for the first time, it’s a Direct Download Link (DDL) forum with links to premium templates, graphics, coding and scripts useful for for web applications developers (PHP, Flash, Flex, etc), SEO buffs, web designers, graphics designers, templates/scripts addicts, 3D animation gurus, photographers or even students of any related field.

TemplateP2P

The following which explains the open registrations is quoted from TP2P’s forum:

Registration Link: http://templatep2p.com/forum/index.php?action=register
I thought I'd have a random and surprise Open Sign Up. No real reason other than to hopefully attract some new great members.
Not sure how many members I'm gonna let in yet, or how long this will last for. I will watch the new registrations closely over the next day or so and base my decision off of that.
Make sure to welcome our new members and help them along their first few weeks here...

Since we have already have several reviews of TemplateP2Phere on FILEnetworks Blog, we will not be repeating the same information here. If you want to know more about the type of content you’ll find on this forum, we suggest you read this article. If you want to know more about their invite applications ( which will come in handy when the site is closed for signup), we suggest you read this post.

Here’s yet another post in our popular scene rules article series. The 2010 XViD Sports Releasing Standards (TXSRS10) have been pre’d by ‘The Sports Release Council’ and all scene released sports content encoded using the XViD codec will conform to these standards effective from 15th March 2010. If you’ve been downloading UFC/MMA content, Wrestling matches or other sports related video etc leaked onto private torrent trackers, chances are that these will conform to TXSRS10 after the aforementioned date. As far as I can tell there aren’t many huge changes but then again I am quite unfamiliar with the previous revision of this ruleset. Release type specific rules are not uncommon in the warez scene – sceners believe they help set a standard and bring a level of uniformity to releases pre’d by different scene groups.

First part of the ruleset NFO (introduction) is quoted below:

The Sports Release Council was formed to separate sports releases from the ruleless world of TV-XVID. This standard aims to improve the overall quality of our sports releases while retaining the compatibility we have enjoyed for so long. We hope to bring standardization to our scene and rid ourselves of some of the archaic quality-hampering restrictions that the sports scene has had to put up with based on the preferences/assumptions of nukers.

Under exceptional circumstances, the council has the power to override a global nuke put in place by a nukenet. Such a circumstance would occur for example if a release is being contested within a nuke war. The release in question may be brought to the attention of the council who may then decide on the validity of the release. If the council does decide on the matter, that decision is final and should be treated as if it were written within the standard itself. If a council decision is made, the release shall be nuked or unnuked with "council.decision_reason" as the reason.

As usual, the detailed set of rules is categorized according to sizing standards, packaging and naming, video, video dimensions, audio, source notes, propers and internals. TXSRS10 is signed by the following release groups; 433, aAF, CiRCLE, DVSKY, ESPN, FQM, GORE, KAFFEREP, KYR, OTV, T0nK4 and W4.

Download

You can download the full set of rules using the link given below.  The .rar file linked-to has the complete NFO as well as a separate formatted HTML page containing the full rule set for easy reading.

You favorite pirate magazine is back for another edition – Issue 39 of the The Game Scene Charts (TGSC) was pre’d on the 22nd of February 2010 (due to our own ignorance, this post again got delayed by a couple of weeks). This is the first TGSC issue for year 2010 and as the editorial says, it’s a fresh new start and a new year of rankings. If you are hearing about this magazine for the first time, TGSC is a publication that ranks and rates PC game release groups in the warez scene. Groups gain points based on the type of protection they have to crack, number of non nuked releases they pre and so on. Like most scene releases, TGSC is made by sceners and its targeted readership is other scene members. However as it usually happens TGSC too leaks onto P2P :p.

TGSC 39

Speaking of Issue 39, this edition covers cracked PC games released on the month of January 2010. This month’s winner was FASiSO followed by RELOADED and PROPHET. Legendary Razro1911 (which is probably the oldest surviving PC game release group today) came up forth while DOX release group BreWerS took the fifth position. For a detailed analysis, points and overall standings, download and read the magazine :p

Download

Note: You do not need additional software to read TGSC. It’s a coded magazine with it’s own rending engine. Everything you need to run the magazine is self contained in a single executable file.

You may download older TGSC editions from our Scene section.

Out of all the private torrent trackers online today, CN remains to be one of the most secretive. However, It's strict rules against publicity have not been able to prevent news from spreading across the BitTorrent universe – most people now know of it’s existence and the tracker is known as one of the best movie trackers one could get into. Thankfully, CN’s administration have responded to the growing popularity is a positive manner. Although the site hasn’t directly opened signups, numerous other modes of recruitment have been presented which can be used to get invited into CN for free, without getting involved with malpractices such as invite trading or scamming. If you missed out on CN IRC recruitment or E-mail invite requests earlier, here’s another option you can try – they now have online invite applications through which potential new members can apply and join to the tracker.

CN

Quoted below is a message posted on site homepage:

We have implemented a new external invite application system for non-members. Now you can tell your friends to come and apply for an invite.
You can deliver this message:

"The link for the application is (you can find it at the external page too) :
https://www.cosanostra.mn/applyforinvite.php
You are expected to answer all these questions clearly and honestly if you really want to join CN.
For all liars, traders and cheaters: Don't apply, you will be banned sooner or later and you will be just wasting your time."

:: A3M

Before you flip out about us posting the full tracker URL, it was mentioned here with permission from CN staff. This post would not have made much sense without it and we are grateful that CN staff were of the same opinion.

Anyways we won’t be posting detailed tracker information or screenshots of CN unlike in our usual tracker reviews. Just know that with over 15000 movie torrents, one of the best unique tracker scripts and tons of site features, this is a  tracker well worth getting into. If you need more background information, we suggest you read the site overview found below ( this was sent to us by CN staff team sometime back, during their E-mail giveaway):

On the surface CN is a dedicated movies tracker, but peel back the layers and you will notice that it is so much more. Our focus is on all types movies, regardless of language, genre or format.

CN is a tracker that prides itself on striving to be different as well as being quality conscious. It is a community that values social cohesion and interaction with each other. A place where we want hardcore movie lovers and the more casual movie watchers come together to discuss and share their opinions and recommendations on their favorite films.

It is a place that puts file sharing above all; meaning we absolutely encourage seeding and leeching as opposed to buffering and ratio whoring. People with seedboxes and fast connections are always welcome to help boost overall speed, but those who do not have either, need not be intimidated. A fast connection is certainly not a requirement to "survive" at CN.

While CN does maintain a somewhat strict inactivity policy, we feel it is only fair and reasonable, as CN is a place where every member should play their part and contribute to the community and tracker. If you have no intentions of doing so, then simply put, CN is not for you. Most of the disabled users you see on the site statistics are due to inactivity.

Together with a unique and comprehensive promotion system which requires all-rounded site activity to advance and a simple but brilliant seeding and bonus system that doesn’t exist elsewhere, maintaining a ratio is not a problem for even the user with the slowest connection.

In a nutshell, if you are looking for an extremely tight-knit community, unique tracker features found nowhere else, enjoy and love movies, are willing to play a role in achieving something bigger than yourself, CN is the place for you.

We’ve said this before and we’ll say it again – you have to become a member of this site to really see it’s potential. It has a lot of small yet useful features which all cannot be covered in a simple review such as this. For example, their promotions system is pretty unique and it’d take us ages to fully explain it in detail. So, as said above we’ll leave you to discover the site features – prepare to be awed the first time you log in :p

CN doesn't have many members but the ~1400 of them that are registered there are pretty active. Invite applications should bring in fresh new blood in and further boost the activity of this tracker. If you are looking for a decent movie tracker, try your luck with the invite apps.

Special thanks to DeViL666 and rest of CN staff team for the support provided.
