Here’s our latest collective tracker open signup update. If you are wondering what that is, this is a post summarizing information about private torrent trackers that were featured on FILEnetworks during the last 1-2 months. This articles features 15 private torrent trackers specializing in all sorts of content ranging from TV shows, kids content, high definition movies, mobile content, audiobooks, music, music videos to general releases. All of the private communities mentioned here are currently open for public registrations, meaning you won’t need to have an invite code ready in order to join. Summarized site information including up to date site statistics, signup URLs and a links to full tracker reviews are included with each entry. In case you missed out on a site when we first told about it or if you are a new reader who just joined us, this post should help get you up to speed on some of the recently launched BitTorrent trackers.

As usual, it’s strongly recommended that you read the full review of a tracker before you sign up. A review usually includes a brief description of what sort of content is available in a site, details of it’s community, language options, etc and includes a few screenshots as well. This way you would not end up in a site you’d never use and trackers won’t get filled with lots of inactive members. A link to full review can be found below the ‘Description’ field of each entry.

In addition, we want to announce a change to our collective tracker updates format. Since we have expanded our coverage from open signup trackers to those that engage in IRC recruitment as well as DDL forums, we have decided to branch collective updates by mode of registration (Open signup/conditional recruitment) and by type of site (DDL Forum/Tracker). That is, there will be separate posts each for latest DDL forums, new sites that offer IRC recruitment/invite applications in addition to regular open signup updates (such as this post). First collective update for trackers with IRC recruitment can be found here while a list of DDL forums with open registrations can be found here.

If you’ve been following release blogs on the internet you probably already know about BTArena.org. It’s a popular site which provides information about latest scene and p2p releases along with a host of accompanying resources such as torrent/one click hosting links, trailers, NFO, video clips etc . Unlike most other release blogs which simply link to external sites, BTARENA hosts links, .torrent files, video etc on their own servers (links.btarena.org, tracker.btarena.org (their own BT tracker), video.btarena.org). Some of you might remember the ‘Oscars 2009 Project’ by the release blog which drew a lot of attention back then. The project in which they collect links to all Oscar nominated movies that have leaked online, is back for another round in year 2010.

Oscar 2010 Pirate

The project is simply a separate page on BTArena site in which  current Oscar awards and their nominations are listed. Next to each nomination is a link through which you can download a copy of the related movie via BitTorrent/one click hosting sites. The link is color coded with green designating  a DVDRip and blue for DVDSCR and other copies with lesser video quality. Releases by movie groups from the scene as well as peer-to-peer oriented sources are indexed. Of course, not all Oscar nominated movies have leaked online (not yet anyways) – movie names in Red have no downloadable release available and users are welcome to share a copy if they have access to one.

FirstWire, the popular free LimeWire alternative, is one of the best clients that support Gnutella, a decentralized file sharing network. Although unnoticed by many, FrostWire can also handle torrent files as it comes with built in support for BitTorrent protocol. However dedicated torrent clients such as Vuze and uTorrent  sued to pwn FrostWire’s BT engine which was based on legacy LimeWire technology. However the FW team announced a major change to the software recently, dubbed ‘FrostWire Torrent Joint’ – it’s aging BitTorrent engine has been replaced with a more modern version entirely powered by Azureuz technology. The new change introduces many improvements to FrostWire’s torrent file handling including support for magnet links, faster downloads and not to mention tons of bugfixes.

FrostWire

Following text which briefly summarizes the changes in ‘Torrent Joint’ is quoted from the FW blog:

Now FrostWire’s BitTorrent engine has been entirely replaced and features all the power of a lightweight version of the Azureus BitTorrent Core under the hood.

Not only all the prior issues our users reported with torrents are gone, but downloading torrents with FrostWire is faster than ever. Torrent Bootstrapping has also significantly improved and in some cases the average download speeds are even 3x faster than with our previous torrent technology.

For a detailed list of changes you can read the full blog post from here.

It would be interesting to see how the changes will affect FrostWire’s standing in allowed clients lists on private torrent trackers. Right now, there aren’t many private torrent sites that allow FrostWire on their sites. The move to Azureuz core might change things as Azureuz/Vuze is a widely accepted client on most sites.

To clear up any confusion, FW Torrent Join can not only handle torrents but it retains support for Gnetella network connectivity as well. If you want a client with decent support for both Gnutella and BT, check FrostWire out.

On the hunt for good zero day torrent trackers that do not limit themselves to a particular niche? Today could be your lucky day. DigitalHive (DH) and TorrentVault (TV), two great general trackers that index everything from movies, music, books to games are currently open for signup. Both DH and TV are renowned for their blazing fast pre times which is one of the most sought after qualities in 0day torrent sites. Of course, we’ve covered these sites in detail before (and even conducted exclusive giveaways for TV) but it’s time for an update since they have undergone many changes and evolved during the past couple of months. Hopefully this should also help readers who recently joined us as well as those who missed the previous news posts about DH and TV.

DigitalHive
DigitalHive
DigitalHive is a private torrent tracker that’s managed to grab the attention of many during the last couple of months. Things have been progressing really well for this tracker ever since they launched DigitalHive v2.0 (you can read more about v2 and see screenshots in our DH v2.0 review located here). DH employs one of the best custom tracker interfaces found on a General 0Day tracker – however it’s not all about the looks. First of all DH has very fast pre times that can compete with leading scene trackers such as SCC. Below is a screenshot of all time tracker statistics on Trac3.me, a site that monitors and ranks over 60 torrent trackers for best pre times:
DH and TV pre times

Download speeds on DH even for newly uploaded torrents are pretty good. Each new torrent is initially seeded by two different seedboxes, making life easy for leechers. An autouploader bot is present on DH, which is responsible for spewing hundreds of scene releases daily into the torrent index. Close to 500 new torrents have been added today (6th) alone. Signups for DH are currently open – you might want to check their inactivity rules (which recently changed) if you are to survive on this tracker.

Stats: 12000+ torrents and 20000+ users

TorrentVault
TorrentVault
Until several months ago TorrentVault was an average 0day tracker without many highlights. However their move to Gazelle back in November 2009 was a major turning point – not only did the site upgrade to a state of the art user interface but it drew the attention of many with it’s fast pre times and hundreds of new torrents uploaded daily by it’s numerous autouploader bots. During our last mention of TV, there were only ~10000 torrents indexed. However by today this number has exceeded 45000 – that’s more than 35k torrents added in less than 5 months time which is an impressive feat for any 0Day tracker. What’s even more important is that TV’s staff have had the time to think beyond fast pre times and number of torrents. Two major new features were added to the site during this time; TorrentVault MarketPlace and TV mIRC AutoDownloader. Anyways if you couldn’t get into this site during our last giveaway, here’s another chance. TV will have open signups up until the site reaches 12k users (which leaves around 1000 free slots remaining).

Although we’ve talked about a lot of sites with direct download links, I don’t believe we’ve discussed about something that specialize in TV releases. ev0.in is not technically a DDL forum nor a torrent tracker. It’s somewhat of a hybrid site that both acts as a scene releases indexer (for 0day releases) as well as a DDL link repository. Actually, it’s something like musiCORE, only for TV shows.  If you are interested in grabbing your daily dose of TV from one click hosting sites such as RapidShare, Hotfile, FileFactory, Megaupload, Netload, etc you might want to check out ev0.in. For added value, ev0 is integrated with social media services such as Facebook and Twitter plus RSS feeds, allowing you to keep track you your TV releases easily.

ev0.in

The moment you visit ev0.in, you’ll notice that it’s interface resembles that of an online pre database. Usually, these types of sites only link to a NFO (Information) of indexed releases. However, if you click on a release title on ev0, you’ll get a collection of one click hosting links from where you can actually download the listed TV episode from. 3-4 different sets of links ( each from a different one click hoster) are usually provided for every item, allowing maximum availability and giving you some flexibility on download source (for example if you hate Rapidshare you could always use another source).

Note that ev0.in only indexes TV releases. New episodes of almost all popular US based TV shows make it to ev0 but you won’t find any games, movies or music here. As of 5/3/2010 there are over 8600 uploads indexed. TV releases can be sorted by video codec type – ev0 currently indexes releases encoded with XViD, x264, x264(Re-encodes) and even rmvb (Realmedia Variable Bitrate) files. One of the drawbacks here is the lack of full season packs – if you are looking for complete TV seasons, you’ll be better off searching for them on a torrent tracker like BTN.

Ev0.In releases

As stated earlier ev0 comes with tight social media integration. You can follow its releases on Twitter via http://twitter.com/ev0dotin and also on Facebook if you become a fan of their FB page. You can even retweet and share TV episode download information through the buttons that appear below the download links. Category based RSS feeds are also available. A TV schedule and upcoming episodes of popular shows can be found on the site’s right sidebar.

One of the best things about ev0 is that it doesn’t require registration. Since it uses one click hosting links, you will not be bound by seeding rules or ratio requirements. If you are looking for a DDL source for TV shows, check this site out.

Since many have been asking, here’s a quick update on Silent Hunter 5 Battle of the Atlantic. SH5 is an important PC game on many counts – it’s the latest installment of a popular franchise but it is also one of the first games to use UBISOFT’s new *much hyped* DRM system. If you aren’t aware, UBI’s new DRM requires users to stay connected to the internet during the time they play the game (even for single player mode). Although the publisher tried to reduce piracy into nothingness by taking such draconian measures, scene group SKIDROW put a damper on their plans earlier yesterday. SKIDROW released a modified (aka cracked) version of Silent Hunter 5 which according to them bypassed UBIsoft’s DRM. But has the DRM really been defeated and is the pirated release really playable?

Now that’s an interesting question. According to UBIsoft, the pirated release that’s circulating on the internet is not complete. It’s a pretty vague statement – does the game contact UBI’s servers to download additional content? I think not. But it may be possible that it phones home to verify the authenticity of the game at various points in game, something like an online version of SecuROM triggers.

Anyways the pirated release by SKIDROW does not seem to be fully functional anyway. According to folks on various gaming forums, some have had difficulty in getting the campaign missions to work. Getting the second mission to work after skip tutorial seems to be pretty hard at least for now. Some have also been greeted with crashes to desktop (CTD) at random points in game. Note that these could also be actual bugs with Silent Hunter 5. However, it’s not logical for UBI to release the game to public with such massive showstopper bugs present so the issues are probably DRM triggers (or results of modifications done by SKIDROW).

But that’s not to say UBI’s new DRM has been a success. In fact, it seems to have gotten partially cracked in less that a day since public release - that’s a lot less time than it took to crack Starforce back in the day. Naturally, cracking groups will adapt to the new protection and release quality will only improve in future.

Note : Do not post download/torrent links to cracks or ISO here. This post is purely for informational purposes.

Here’s some more news from the torrent tracker scene – this time about three veteran trackers. LeechersLair (LL), a General/0Day torrent tracker has opened registrations to the public after a rather long pause. LL is not the only tracker to open registrations though – one of the best untouched DVD trackers in existence, The DVD Club has also opened signups for one day only. The occasion? They’re celebrating 4 years of being online. Speaking of birthdays, another major tracker is celebrating their birthday today – the popular TV torrent site BitMeTV is now 5 years old. BMTV doesn’t have open signups like the rest but its members may be in for a few surprises if what’s stated on the homepage is correct.

The DVD Club (TDC) is open
The DVD Club
When it comes to downloading untouched DVD5/DVD9/BD5/BD9 torrents, the DVD Club is one of the best resources on the net. TDC indexes movies and TV shows in their original DVD/Blu Ray format, complete with menus, extras, bonus content and more. You won’t find any XViD rips here but there are some x264 encoded torrents which needless to say have excellent video quality. TDC will be open for signup and have sitewide free leech today, in celebration of their 4th birthday.  You can read a detailed review of this tracker here (also includes screenshots).

Site Name: TheDVDClub (http://thedvdclub.org)
Signup URL: http://thedvdclub.org/signup.php
Stats: 9500+ users and 2500+ active torrents

LeechersLair registrations open
LeechersLair
LeechersLair (LL) is one of those private trackers that’s gone through a lot. The site has undergone multiple URL changes, server issues and faced numerous other obstacles but in the end they’ve managed to survive. There are still intermittent uptime issues but LL is still a great General/0Day tracker with a good community and decent download speeds. They’ve opened registrations to the public after having last opened doors in last August. You can read a full review of this tracker from this link (screens included).

Site Name: LeechersLair
Signup URL: http://bit.ly/bkuMUR
Stats: 16000+ users and 2200+ torrents

BitMeTV is 5 years old
BitMeTV
Almost everyone who knows about BitMeTV dreams about getting into the tracker. It’s simply one of the best (if not the best) TV torrent trackers around. Although unnoticed by many, BMTV is one of the oldest private trackers in existence. It is now celebrating the 5th birthday which is a great achievement since not many trackers (private or public) survive for that long these days. BMTV is still going strong and have amassed around 22000 members and close to 25000 torrents as of 4/3/2010. It is currently unknown what benefits its members will receive as part of birthday celebrations – the site homepage simply says:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BITMETV
BITMETV IS 5 YEARS OLD!!
STAY TUNED FOR SURPRISES!!

What the ‘surprises' mentioned are currently unknown. It’s also worth noting that during their 5 years of being online, the site has only had open signups 2-3 times with the last open registration happening in August 2008.

It’s always refreshing to talk about a brand new torrent tracker. It’s even more refreshing when the said tracker is a specialized, niche tracker. Merlin (or ML) is a new private torrent site that indexes movies, TV shows and music that belong to Science Fiction / Fantasy genres. ML is not just any new project launched by a bunch of beginners to the BitTorrent scene. It’s backed by an experienced crew who are responsible for running the successful ACiD tracker, one of the best and oldest community based private torrent sites in existence. Launching to the public in the first week of March, Merlin will initially be closed for public signups. However, interested members will be able to join the tracker through official IRC recruitment channel as well as by requesting for an invite via E-Mail.

Merlin ML Tracker

Given the nature of secrecy surrounding ML project, chances are that you may never have heard about this site until now. Even after the public launch, it’s unlikely that ML will turn into a ‘public’ private tracker as it usually happens nowadays (not saying it’s a bad thing). It’s publicity policy is something similar to that employed by ACiD -  posting of full tracker URL or name in public is prohibited. However it’s not one of those out of reach sites either - Although there are no open signups for now (there may be in future), members will initially be recruited via both IRC and E-mail. Just like ACiD, community will have a higher focus on ML and it won’t just be about torrents and downloading.

At the time this article was written, the public launch of ML had not occurred (but by the time you read this, it may very well have happened). However, we were able to get a sneak peak of things to come thanks to the kind SysOps of this tracker. Running on a custom tracker script, Merlin’s interface definitely looked good. The layout was well organized, uncluttered and the color selection was very easy on the eyes.

Merlin Tracker

Even though it’s a brand new tracker ML already indexes 425+ active torrents. These include movies, TV shows, soundtracks all related to the Science Fiction and Fantasy genres. Quite a few exclusive, unique torrents have also been indexed. These can be identified by ‘Menc’ or ‘ML’ tags on torrent title and are usually placed inside ‘Merlin Encodes’ category. Expect ML to build both its torrent index as well as registered users database pretty fast – they have the backing of ACiD which already has a rock solid foundation with ~20000 active members.

If you are ever to become a member of ML, you might want to read their downloading rules. Quoted from the rules page:

  • A Hit & Run here on ML is when you complete a torrent, stop it and do not return to seed within 24 hrs. This applies to all torrents whether they are free download torrents, ratio boosters, and special vip torrents, such as movie box sets etc... unless other wise stated by a staff member.
  • You need to be active on every torrent you download for a minimum of 72 hrs (3 days) or, achieve a 1:1 ratio, unless the torrent is over 20 gb's in size. This means total time downloading and seeding.
  • If the torrent is over 20GB's in size then we require that you be active on it for 120 hrs (5 days) or achieve a 1:1 ratio (Which ever comes first). This means total time downloading and seeding.

The above are minimum seed time requirements. Seeding beyond the minimum will net you 1.5x credit on uploads.

How to get invited to ML

Currently there are two ways to request for an invite to ML. In both cases, you will be invited (if approved) by tracker staff themselves and there is no need to worry about getting scammed.

  1. Send an E-mail with the subject ‘Merlins Invite’ to merlins.invite@gmail.com. Be sure to include at least one screenshot (which shows your ratio on site) of a private torrent tracker that you are already a member of.
    OR
  2. Login to ML invites IRC channel and request an invite there – please follow rules stated in the channel topic. Invite channel details are as follows:
    Server: irc.pron.org.uk
    Channel: #merlins-invites
    Direct Link: irc://irc.pron.org.uk/merlins-invites

Special thanks to methods, MuddSlinger, Saavyboy and rest of ACiD/ML staff for the heads up.

One of the reasons why Twitter became so popular is it’s excellent support for API functions. Twitter API let thousands of 3rd party developers build tools and applications for the service, driving it’s growth exponentially. One of the coolest products that utilize the Twitter API are Twitter clients. These 3rd party applications allow you do do pretty much everything you can imagine with the service, right from the comfort of your desktop. We’ve already posted about a Twitter client which we think was cool in this post. This article is about another relatively new but easy to use app, Seesmic For Windows. Seesmic has been available for Windows in many forms (SeesMic Web, Twhirl, etc) but they’ve finally decided to go native – the end product is a good one.

Seesmic for windows 0.6

Windows users could earlier use Seesmic via twhirl, an Adobe AIR based client. Seesmic for Windows on the other hand is built on native code and is optimized for Windows Vista/Windows 7 etc. It has a great looking interface, support for multiple tabs, support for multiple Twitter accounts, automatic URL shortening (using several different services), automatic image uploads to TwitPic or YFrog and even new Twitter API 2.0 features such as Lists and native Retweet. In fact, the only feature I found missing in this client was the ability to minimize to tray (which some folks argue is not required for Win 7 -  I tend to disagree).

Seesmic for Windows is free and the initial setup program you have to download weights only ~650kb. Once you download and execute it, additional components required for the software will be downloaded to your machine. Note that you need to have Microsoft .Net Framework installed on your machine in order for the setup to work.

Here’s a quick update on SuperTorrents. ST, one of the long standing (and not to mention one of the most controversial) private torrent trackers around, have opened public registrations for one day only. Signups will remain open throughout the 1st of March and new members will be able to sign up without the need for an invite code. For those who haven’t heard about it, SuperTorrents is a General/0Day torrent tracker with a unique interface – it tracks both scene and non scene releases related to a wide array of categories at average pre times. ST seems to be close to launching the next major revision of the tracker dubbed ST v2.0 and have already implemented several changes to the current system, as highlighted below:

SuperTorrents

Following is quoted from a new post on site homepage:

  • User Uploads are now shown on the default browse page with official ST torrents and highlighted in orange.
  • New Members (noobs) are now required to download or upload 5GB within 45 days of registration.
  • Existing new members (noobs) beyond the 45 day period will have until March 15th to reach full User status.
  • Members of the User class are now required to maintain a ratio at or above 1.05 after 60 days of membership.
  • Existing members of the User class will have until March 15th to increase their ratios beyond 1.05 before being warned.
  • audiophreak has won the ST2.0 Logo Contest and will be the first to have his logo featured on our new site redesign. Check the thread for a preview!

The above mentioned changes are now live and affects all new and existing members.

SuperTorrents

Although there is no exact date set for the launch of ST v2.0 this is a clear indication that it’s soon going to happen. If you are curious about this next milestone, here a list of things that are to be expected after the full launch (quoted from a forum post by the SysOp) :

  • New layout, designs & Slogan - Possible addition of custom style sheets
  • New Ratio System – Stripped of the outdated & obsolete standard of download vs. upload
  • Removal of Seed Bonus - As the ratio system is redesigned there will no longer be a need for seed bonus
  • New Class System - Abolition of outdated promotion/rewards system
  • Revamped Request System - Request bounty, credit only taken if request filled, etc
