In a world full of General/0Day trackers, it’s always nice to see a new specialized tracker being launched. Torrent Script is a private tracker that fills a void in the BitTorrent community. It’s a site that focuses on web development related content such as CMS, website templates, fonts, scripts (Ajax, PHP, etc), clone scripts, plugins, vector graphics and more. Although a brand new project, web developers, designers, software engineers, graphics designers, students or mere enthusiasts of any of these subjects should find Torrent Scripts a handy tracker to have. If you were wondering, yes premium content which you otherwise have to pay for is available for free on this tracker :P

torrent script

Launched on the 1th of February 2010, Torrent Script is only three days old. However, it’s not a ghost town with 0 torrents and 5 users  unlike most other ambitious new projects (not saying it’s bad to start small). TS on the other hand already indexes close to 200 active torrents and has a 750 strong registered user base. Considering the fact that this is a niche tracker, these are excellent stats. I haven’t seen this site posted in any other BitTorrent forum so far and TS’s stats are expected to further improve as the word spreads around the BT community.

As said earlier, what makes Torrent Script unique is the type of content it tracks. Although there are direct download link forums such as TemplateP2P that cater for this niche, there aren’t many torrent trackers (apart from the likes of GFXNews) which focus on web and graphics development related torrents. Most of the torrents found here are non scene p2p originated content. This includes both individual releases as well as collections of related torrents aka packs. The screenshot below will give you a better idea on the type of torrents found on Torrent Scripts:

Torrent Script Screenshot

Although we cannot predict the future of any torrent tracker due to the volatile nature of this community, Torrent Script is a site that’s already shown a lot of promise. If this trend continues, we can only hope more good things from this tracker. Signups are currently open and if you are interested, feel free to check the site out.

Last time we talked about the popular high definition torrent tracker Awesome-HD (AHD), it wasn’t about good news. Dealing a critical blow to AHD, one of their main encoders EuReKA left the site to join HD-Torrents, another HD tracker. To make things worse, EuReKa took the domain www.awesome-hd.com along with him. Although many believed AHD to die after the incident, it never happened. The site bounced back on a new domain and life seems to have returned to normal at AHD with torrents flowing in as usual and user base as strong as ever. Good news is that they’ve opened signups for the first time since they moved to a new domain. The occasion? Valentine’s day :p

Awesome HD

Quoted below is a news item posted on site homepage:

In the spirit of Valentines Day, we'd like to share the love.
For 24 hours from midnight GMT to midnight GMT, (all of Valentines day) Awesome-HD features:
 OPEN REGISTRATION
Spread the word at other trackers and tell your friends to come and get some Awesome love. Remind your friends though of our new inactivity rule, cause we'd like them to stay a while once they're here!

Happy Valentines Day from the staff of Awesome-HD

Since we’ve discussed about this tracker in detail in a recent post, we’re not going to repeat the same information here. However, we strongly recommend you read this article to get an idea of AHD’s new features, type of content it tracks, rules etc before you sign up. The review is based on the new AHD v3.1 and is pretty up to date. When you sign up, use the link below as the link posted in previous artuicle may now be out of date.

It’s been a while since we featured an untouched DVD/Blu Ray tracker on FILEnetworks. But our Chinese friends are here to help (and they sure has hell have a lot more BT trackers up their sleeve that we initially thought) – OurDiSC is a private BitTorrent tracker that specializes in untouched DVD (DVDR) and Blu-Ray (BD+) movies. This tracker should appeal to movie fans living in both English speaking countries as well as those living in Asian region. Why? Most of the content tracked by OurDiSC are releases for R1 (DVD Region 1) and R3 (DVD Region 3). If you are interested in joining, signups are currently open and the site’s current max user limit will allow over 1000 new registrations.

ourdisc

This torrent tracker (http://bt.ourdisc.net) is a sister site of ourdisk.net which itself is a Chinese forum. As it usually happens with this kind of sites, the tracker most probably evolved from the success of the forum. However, note that these are two separate entities. http://bt.ourdisc.net (which’s actual name is OurDVD) is a fully fledged private tracker based on TBDEV codebase and is not a forum based site. It’s not a small tracker either. As of 13/2/2010 there are close to  6000 registered users and 3600+ indexed torrents on OurDiSC.

As for the content, most of the movies indexed here are releases for DVD Region 3 (R3 – includes Southeast Asia, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau). However this still would be a useful tracker if you are from an English speaking country. Most of the releases come either with an English audio stream, Multilanguage audio or English subtitles. Just to be on the safe side, read the torrent description before you hit download link. An advantage of having this tracker in addition to your usual DVDR/Blu-Ray trackers would be the additional content – OurDiSC tracks some Asian movies not found on regular torrent sites.

Ourdisc index

By default, OurDiSC’s interface is in Chinese language. However, you can easily switch the entire site to English through the profile. Here’s a step by step guide on how to do this:

  1. Sign up for OurDiSC using http://bt.ourdisc.net/signup.php. Use Google Translate or AIRTranslate to help as there is no way to switch the site to English prior to registration.
  2. Once logged in, click on http://bt.ourdisc.net/my.php
  3. Change the language using the drop down, as shown in the screenshot below:

OurDisck Language change

Apart from minor language quirks (all torrent names displayed in Both Chinese and English, even if you have English as preferred language), OurDiSC is a decent tracker. It comes complete with a requests section, a bonus system, torrent enhancements (golden torrents - spinning gold coin), half download - spinning silver coin, 2x upload - two golden coins, etc). Signups are currently open so feel fre to check it out.

Recently we talked about SkyDrive Explorer, a software that allows you to browse your cloud based storage from within my computer. The software featured in this post, FeelHome, does quite the opposite of what SkyDrive Explorer does. It allows you to connect to your home computer through a web browser from anywhere in the world. With this cool app, you can browse the hard disk of your home computer, copy files, alter files, share and save them from remote locations may it be at work, school or in prison (if you have connectivity that is :p ). You can even shut down your home machine from the web interface when you are done. Best part about this application is that it doesn’t involve a complex configuration process. Thanks to the straightforward installation and well presented instructions, the software is usable by both power users and novice users alike.

FeelHome

There’s a lengthy explanation of how FeelHome works on its homepage https://www.nuxinov.com/ but if you don’t have the time for it, here’s a shorter three step process to get it working quickly.

  1. Download FeelHome client from this location https://www.nuxinov.com/install.php.
  2. Your home computer needs to have the FeelHome client installed and connected to the internet for this to work. Run the installer, create a FeelHome account and log in (all of these can be done from the setup process itself).
  3. That’s it. You can now login to your computer from any location in the world, simply by visiting https://www.nuxinov.com/feelhome/login.php. (Use the same credentials you used in step 2)

Once logged in, you can download files from the home machine, upload files to the home machine and even invite friends to share your files. There are some other features such as virtual desktop which we leave you to discover. Cool part is that the remote computer used to access the home PC does not need to have any software installed. All you need to have is a web browser. I’ve been using FeelHome for some time now and it’s worked pretty well so far. However, note that the service is still in beta.

This may sound too good to be true but FeelHome is not without restrictions. While the service is free, there are some limitations to bandwidth usage and maximum downloadable file size (7.63 Mb  max file size and 24mb bandwidth usage per month). However, we hear that these restrictions will be relaxed as the software goes out of beta in a couple of months. EDIT: You can also get extra bandwidth by inviting friends to the service.

P.S- If you skipped registration during setup, you can create an account using the web interface by visiting https://www.nuxinov.com/feelhome/register.php

We’ve been keeping an eye on Wunza ever since it’s grand return a couple of weeks ago. After the impressive re-birth, Wunza has constantly been improving with new users being added, more content being uploaded and new members being recruited. The next major revision of the site dubbed Wunza 2.1 was recently rolled out and this version includes several new features, bug fixes and UI and design enhancements. One of the most anticipated and possibly the biggest change introduced in v2.1 is the ratio free system. Users are no longer required to maintain a global ratio and with this move, Wunza joins the ranks of ratio free specialized movie trackers such as PTN. Simultaneously, the site has gone invite only but if you still haven’t made it inside, invites are available in the official IRC recruitment channel.

Wunza

When Wunza achieved a state of rapid growth after their return, staff made an announcement describing the upcoming v2.1 of the site. Quoted below is the announcement:

We said in our last announcement that the site will close for signups and become an invite only community when we reached 6500 members. Well, today we have reached that number! Signups have officially closed, the user limit has been set to 50.000, and all members have been given 2 invites: use them wisely. We remind you that it is strictly against site policy to engage in the trading, selling, or giving away of invites. The purpose of the invites is to give them to a friend who you think is deserving of it and who will contribute positively to the community. Please also keep in mind that if you are not active, your account will be deleted. All accounts that do not show any activity (signing in) for two weeks have been disabled, and we will continue this policy.
Also, on February 1st, Wunza will officially become ratio-free! Please keep in mind the required 120 hours (not consecutive) of seeding per torrent, or your account will be marked with a Hit and Run.
Some exciting changes and new features will be to the site as well:
- Chat Page [fixed]
- New Design [fixed]
- Ratio-Free [fixed]
- Uploader Class [fixed]
- Invite Only [fixed]

All the promises they made in this announcement (which was posted about a week back) have now been upheld. This includes the ratio free system which is now fully functional. Some might frown at the 120 hour seeding requirement (which is a tad higher compared to most other ratio free sites) but IMHO it’s a bold move that’ll extend the lifetime of torrents on Wunza.

Speaking of torrents, Wunza now tracks close to 1000 movie torrents. When we last reviewed the site back in December 2009 they only had 60 movies indexed. It’s finally nice to see Wunza breaking the curse of ‘not being able to upload enough movies’. Back in the days of Wunza v1, they had trouble getting the torrent count past 350 even after months of being online – it’s nice to see that things have changed for the good after the ownership change. The story is the same even when it comes to the number of registered users; Wunza now has a user base of ~5300 registered members compared to a mere 400 two months ago.

Wunza Browse

Even amidst rapid expansion, new features were also being added to Wunza web interface. The innovative browse page we spoke of in the last article has been improved with further tweaks. New chat widgets have been installed and several more design aspects of the site have changed. It’s good to see a tracker not focusing only on torrent uploads and member recruitment but continuing to improve  site usability as well.

Although Wunza was open for signup back when we posted our previous article, it has now gone invite only (with the launch of v2.1, of course). If you still couldn’t register, there is no need to worry. You can obtain an invite for free by going through the IRC interview process. To log in to the invites channel, all you have to do is to click the link below – Wunza will load the interview channel in your browser itself. This should be good news for those who dislike installing IRC clients, configuring them and logging into IRC channels.

Here’s quick update on new BitTorrent client releases. Both uTorrent and Vuze (formerly Azureuz), the two most popular BT clients in the world, have released new builds of their software to the public. After releasing uTorrent 2.0 Final the the masses several days ago, it seems the UT team is busy working towards their next major milestone; uTorrent 2.1. Another new alpha build was released released yesterday and albeit still a long way away it’s another step closer to the highly anticipated v2.1 Final. Vuze v 4.3.1.4 too has been released which features minor updates and bug fixes over previous builds. If you use an older build of the same, upgrading to the newest is always recommended.

µTorrent 2.1 Alpha (2.1.18069)

Highlights of this release includes a new, encrypted webUI that doesn't require port forwarding (tentatively called Falcon); many improvements to the standard WebUI backend; streaming; and a new, optional (non-default) simplified UI. Please note that this is still an Alpha build and you might run into undiscovered bugs – proceed at your own risk.

Vuze for Windows 4.3.1.4

The newest build of Vuze has the following fixes and enhancements over the previous Vuze 4.3.1.0a and Vuze 4.3.1.2 builds:

  • Core | Added .vuze file format to trigger a search operation
  • Core | Disable IPv6 under Windows by default, as it needs Java7 to work properly
  • Core | Added system property to disable instance manager
  • Core | Give user friendlier error message when offline-downloader disconnected
  • Core | Auto-dump threads if shutdown takes > 30 seconds
  • UI | Permit deletion of classicaly shared content from download/seeding views:
  • Core | Fixed bug whereby HAVE_ALL messages were failing to set the last bit of the bit-flags
  • Core | Wait until sid registered before attempting pairing test
  • Core | Various pairing HTTPS fixes
  • Core | Fix missing 'logout' button when paired with no authentication
  • UI | Windows - Vuze now pops up if closed to system tray and user launches exe
  • UI | Fixup some Remote Pairing dialog edge case bugs
  • UI | OSX - Fix sidebar animations sometimes not animating
  • UI | OSX - Text in table views are now the correct color (white) when selected
  • UI | Protect against case where Main Window's stored dimensions area invalid or stupidly small
  • UI | Fix invalid thread access and NPE when closing pairing dialog
  • UI | Fixed case where status bar was blank after deiconifying

If you are using an older build of Vuze, it’s recommended that you upgrade to 4.3.1.4. If you haven’t figured it out, the classic menu is still available although the option is a little harder to find. If you feel the default UI is bloated (like me), you can always choose the classic view from the UI chooser.

Several of our readers have asked us to post about a good private torrent tracker which has mixtapes so here it comes. MixFiend is one of the largest private communities when it comes to downloading Mixtape torrents. On this tracker, you can find music related to a number of different music genres such as Hip-Hop, RnB, Reggae, etc. Some of you may not have heard about MixFiend but it’s been online for several years – we even had an old review of this tracker, which was posted way back in 2008. If you are looking for a decent place to download mixtapes at reliable download speeds you should check this tracker out. Registrations are open so joining should not be a problem even if you are a newbie to private trackers.

MixFiend

For some of you, this will probably be the first time you hear about MixFiend. However, this is by no means a small site. It’s actually a huge private tracker which has over 185000 registered users and tracks over 21000 torrents. MxF has been online since 2006 and by 2010 it’s grown into a veteran tracker that’s over 3.5 years old.

Speaking of the content on MixFiend, it’s all about mixtapes. There’s as lot of music indexed here (both old and new) that belong to the following categories;  General, Dirty South, East Coast, West Coast, R&B, Acapellas, Blends, Dance Hall, Reggae, Reggaeton, Classic / Old Tapes, International, Instrumentals, Unsigned Hype, NEW Singles, Old Singles, Chopped & Screwed, Music Videos / Bonus DVDs, Diss Tracks and Live Footage. In addition to regular mixtapes, this tracker houses some great DJ collections, instrumentals and even some bonus DVDs and music videos.

MixFiend Index

Above is a screenshot from MixFiend that shows part of its torrent index. It’s worth mentioning that with a user base close to 2k members, there’s very good activity as well as longer lifetime for indexed torrents. Apart from the torrents, MixFiend comes packed with almost all features found on a regular BitTorrent tracker including forums, search, support for multiple languages, requests and RSS feeds. The site is build on a custom tracker script and has a unique layout as well.

Registrations for MixFiend are currently open. In fact, they’ve always been open whenever we checked on this site so it’s safe to assume the doors might not close anytime soon. However it is still a private tracker and registration is required to view, download or upload torrents.

Several months ago we talked about how BitTorrent trackers have embraced Twitter as an alternate communication medium. Lately, we’ve been seeing lots of trackers using Twitter not just for communication but for expansion and member recruitment as well. We saw TL giving away invite codes for their followers, TemplateP2P tweeting random invites, Jambands recruiting via Twitter DM and ScienceHD making invite apps public through the service (and the list goes on). SceneSound is the latest site to launch a Twitter based expansion phase and they plan to give away 100+ free invites to their followers between today (10th) and Friday (12th). If you still aren’t a member of this great scene MP3 music tracker, here’s another chance to become one.

SceneSound_thumb2[1]

Launched back in June 2009, SceneSound has come a long way in a pretty short time. After being online for less than a year’s SS’s torrent index now boasts a massive 22000+ torrents. Number of registered users has risen close to 7500 and this could have been a lot higher had the site opened signups more frequently. Either way there is plenty of activity and torrents here and the download speeds are pretty decent. Main index does not record pre times but from what we saw, they weren't bad at all.

If you still don’t know, SceneSound is a scene only MP3 tracker which tracks albums released by groups such as FNT, DOH, LzY, hM, H3X, SiRE, pLAN9 and many more. Apart from the 20000 odd albums which are in MP3 format, there is lossless section on site which tracks a few albums in FLAC format. All these releases are categorized in relation to over 40 different music genres.

SceneSound

Coming back to the invite give away, all you have to do in order to become eligible is to follow SceneSound on Twitter. SS staff will keep you up to date on the proceedings and instruct you how to obtain your invites – keep in mind all of this will be done via  Twitter. To become a follower of SceneSound, do the steps below:

  1. If you don’t have a Twitter account, create one from here.
  2. Log in to your Twitter account.
  3. Follow http://twitter.com/scenesound on Twitter and watch for updates.

If you are looking for a scene only music tracker, you should seriously consider joining this site. Lots of releases, less crap and good activity. Currently. the entire archive section is on free leech – we do not know how long this will continue but use it wisely :p.

Mass Effect 2, STALKER : Call of Prypiat and now BioShock 2 – it’s a good season for PC gaming once again. BioShock 2, the sequel to 2007 hit first person shooter, is without a doubt one of the most anticipated games this year. As expected, the game has got mainly positive reviews and a lot of people seem to be having a blast playing this title. But of course, no game is perfect and Bioshock 2 is no exception – there are some minor annoyances with it, which some readers have been kind enough to write to us about. We’ve put together a list of issues and possible fixes for them below – this’ll hopefully help you get a more complete BS2 experience. Also note that this article is a work in progress – more stuff will be added as they are discovered.

BioShock 2 Box Shot

How to save progress in BioShock 2 with Games for Windows Live offline profile

BioShock 2 is a GFWL (Games For Windows Live) branded game. As some of you might already know, saves in most such games are managed by the GFWL system itself and you usually need to be logged into a Live profile to save/load in-game progress. But what if you aren’t connected to internet all the time, don’t have an online GFWL account or if you don’t want to be logged into GFWL for some other reason?  Don’t worry – this doesn't mean you can’t save progress. With the use of an Windows live offline account, you’ll be able to save/load just fine. Obviously, it doesn't require an internet connection to create or log into one.

  1. Launch the game. Open the Windows Live menu.
  2. If you are already logged onto a profile (local or online), sign out (Create profile button will only become visible when you aren’t logged into anything)
  3. Click on ‘Create new profile’ button.
  4. In the dialog box that pops up DO NOT hit continue. Hitting continue will take you to a registration page for an ONLINE profile – that’s not what we want.
  5. Once in the ‘Create Gamer Profile’ window, scroll down so that you can see the bottom paragraph.
  6. Look for the hyperlinked ‘created a local profile’ link in last paragraph. Clicking this will allow you to create a new offline profile.

The method above will work with any game based on GFWL 3.1.

BioShock 2 crashes and offline accounts

Some users have reported about in-game crashes while playing the game with an offline account. This can happen if you have other BioShock 2 savegames created using another Windows Live profile. For example, if you are playing using an offline account now but used to play the game earlier with an online account, the game might crash on you. The solution is to delete all the saved games made using non-offline accounts and keep only the ones made using your current offline account.

How to fix fast, sluggish, accelerated or lagging mouse issues with BioShock 2

When BioShock 1 was released back in 2007, one of the most common complaints about the game was regarding the mouse movement. Some players experienced slowness, lagging and erratic movement while others got fast and accelerated control. You’ll know if this happens to you - it just wouldn’t feel right. One would think after three years the devs might have crushed this bug but alas, it seems to have made it to Bioshock 2 as well. Thankfully, a fix devised by the gaming community to solve the same issue in BS1 seems to work on BS2 as well. There are two methods you can try. One method is pretty short and involves only 2 steps. Second method has more steps but it also has a higher possibility of solving the problem. Try method 2 if method 1 doesn’t work.

Method 1:

Open the file C:\Users\AppData\Bioshock2\User.ini with a text editor. If path not found look under C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Bioshock2\User.ini

Look for the text

MouseX=IF_MOUSE_LOOK_ENABLED Count bXAxis | IF_MOUSE_LOOK_ENABLED Axis aMouseX Speed=2500.0

MouseY=IF_MOUSE_LOOK_ENABLED Count bYAxis | IF_MOUSE_LOOK_ENABLED Axis aMouseY Speed=2500.0

Change it so that it looks something like

MouseX=IF_MOUSE_LOOK_ENABLED Count bXAxis | IF_MOUSE_LOOK_ENABLED Axis aMouseX Speed=1200.0

MouseY=IF_MOUSE_LOOK_ENABLED Count bYAxis | IF_MOUSE_LOOK_ENABLED Axis aMouseY Speed=1200.0

Save and close the file. Launch the game and see if problem is resolved. If not, try method 2.

Method 2:

This is a longer version but lots more people seem to have had success with it. You can find a fully detailed step by step guide on how to do it in this forum thread. Solution is based on BioShock 1 but only things you need to change for this to work in BS2 is path and filename. (correct path and filename for BS2 is C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Bioshock2\User.ini)

How to enable Anti Aliasing (AA) in BioShock 2

BioShock 2 is based on Unreal Engine 2.5 and UE is not very fond of Anti Aliasing. There is no in-game option to enable AA (just like in BS1) but you can force it through your video card’s control panel (you may also try using a tool like nHancer).

Enable following settings in nhancer 2.5.7  to get AA to work in BS2:

multisample 4x
multi transparency
ambient occlusion 00020000 bioshock
aa compatibility 00000145 AA & HDR
aa compatibility dx10 general compatibility

-Courtesy SMX on NFOHump forums

However, if this does do any visible change, you may need to force the game into DX9 mode. To force DX9, start the game with –DX9 command line parameter (or add it to your desktop shortcut).

General tips

Following are general tips that apply to PC gaming in general – not just for BioShock 2. Might seem like bullsh1t but trust me these help a lot in avoiding random crashes, black screens, CTD and other pains in the ass.

  1. Install the latest DirectX runtime – Latest DirectX should be available in your Steam directory but if it’s not (or if you didn’t buy the game from Steam), you can download the latest monthly runtime from here. This is a standalone installer that will work in offline mode as well.
  2. Install Microsoft Visual C++ runtime libraries – I’m not sure if this is an absolute necessity for this game but it’s required for most games nowadays (as demonstrated by the case with Dragon Age : Origins). You can download the required files from this link.
  3. Update Video card drivers
ATI Drivers: Download the latest ATI Catalyst drivers from this link: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx
NVIDIA Drivers: Download latest official NVIDIA drivers from this link: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
  4. Update sound card and motherboard drivers – Overlooked by many but an essential step to playing games crash free. Click Here to download 3DP Chip for Windows Vista/XP/7 – This program will automatically detect your hardware and search for updated drivers for them.

We’ve talked about Sublight before – personally it’s one of the best automatic subtitle downloader applications I’ve ever used. With Sublight around, finding subtitles for downloaded movies or TV episodes is a breeze. Just right click on the video file and hit find subtitles – Sublight will automatically search for and download subs in your preferred language. It would then place them in the correct directory and rename the files automatically so that the next time you play the video subtitles will display just fine. Being a Silverlight desktop application, this tool has a great user interface and is lightning fast. Sublight v2 comes with even more new features, an improved UI and bug fixes.

Sublight 2 screenshot

Sublight 2 retains all the major features of 1.X and adds some more. A highlight of the new additions is the improved Windows 7 style ribbon UI. New components have also been added, which now includes a tool for automatic subtitle synchronization. Additionally, you can rate subtitles from within the software itself. Sublight 2 now includes SublightCmd which is a command line utility for batch downloading on multiple platforms. There are lots of other small UI tweaks that we leave you to figure out by yourself.

Searching for a subtitle is as easy as before - all you need to do is to select the video file from the app. As you can see from the screenshot above, SubLight detects the file format, auto fills the required information and performs the search. This way you can get the subs in a matter of seconds, with no web browser involvement at all. Better yet, you can enable Windows explorer integration so that all you have to do is to right click on a video file to fetch a subtitle. This software uses the following sources to search for and download subtitles (you can customize which of these you want):

  • Opensubtitles (primary)
  • divx-titlovi
  • divxfinland
  • subdivx
  • podnapsi (requires login through the app)
  • allsubs

Download

Note that they also have a Silverlight based online version of the app – if you don’t like installing additional software on your PC, give this a go.
