Out of the thousands of private BitTorrent trackers that are online, there are only a handful sites that focus on recorded radio shows. If you love downloading popular radio talk shows and listening to them at leisure, you’ll be pleased to hear about Bite My Torrent (BMT) – it’s one of those rare trackers that focus on radio shows. BMT tracks daily episodes of some of most the popular shows aired in AM, FM and even satellite radio. It’s a niche tracker catering to a small segment of the torrent community but some of you might actually be surprised by the size of this site.

Bite My Torrent

With over 7100 members and 3500 active torrents, Bite My Torrent is bigger than most mid sized General/0Day trackers. And that’s not all, users here seem to be very active. One of the best things about not-so-popular private torrent sites is that they are usually free of inactive collectors but are full of active members. Same goes for BMT – most of the new, popular torrents have well over 100 seeders on them.

As mentioned in the first paragraph, majority of the torrents on BiteMyTorrent are radio talk shows. Daily episodes of Opie and Anthony Show, The Hideout, Jason Ellis Show, Ron and Fez, Jim Breuer Show,  Ants, Virus weekend programming and various other audio/video clips including stand-up comedy torrents can be found on this tracker. Audio files are usually available in several different formats including 64k/128k MP3, etc. Screenshot below shows some of the new torrents uploaded to BMT as of 10/7/09:

Thinking of how to get into BiteMyTorrent tracker? It’s pretty easy actually. The site is almost always open for signup (including now) and anyone is free to create a new account. If you are a fan of radio talk shows, this tracker is a must have.

Video streaming sites such as YouTube are all too common nowadays. Those who’d like to view streamed video offline might find this post useful. Usually when a video is streamed online, your web browser keeps a copy of the streamed content in the browser cache in the form of a video file. If you locate this file then you can view the video offline. However hunting for video files in browser cache can be quite a painful task. This is where VideoCacheView comes in - it automatically finds video files scattered around in your browser cache.

VideoCacheView

Developer Description

VideoCacheView doesn't require any installation process or additional DLL files. In order to start using it, simply run the executable file (VideoCacheView.exe). After running VideoCacheView, it scan the cache folders of your Internet Explorer and Mozilla browsers, as well as the temporary folder of Windows. Wait 5 - 30 seconds until the scanning process is finished, and the main window of VideoCacheView should display all the video files that are currently in cache.

You can view a full list of features and a few walkthroughs on how to view certain file types (flv files, etc) on VideoCacheView homepae.

Ubisoft released Anno 1404 Dawn of Discovery (PC) to the North American market on the 23rd of June. Although it was a relatively ‘silent’ launch without much hype, the game seems to be very popular among fans of strategy games. If you didn’t know about Anon 1404 already, it’s a city building game with RTS elements mixed in. Anyway the purpose of this post is to give a little tip on how to prevent the ‘crash to desktop when starting the game’ issue several of our readers were facing. I cannot guarantee that it’ll solve all your crashing issues but is definitely worth a try.

Anno 1404 Dawn of Discovery cover

Anno 1404 is optimized for DirectX 10 (don’t worry, DX9 is also supported) and the game by default will launch in DX10 mode if supported hardware is detected. However it seems that DX10 mode causes crashes to desktop (CTD) even on some (not all) video hardware that are listed compatible with the game. If this is really the case, you can avoid the crash by forcing the game to run on DirectX 9. Downside of this method would be that you won’t see graphical enhancements of DX10 in game. Anyways here is how you can force DX9 mode in Anno 1404 by manually editing game configuration file:

  1. Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Ubisoft\anno1404\config\engine.ini (In Windows Vista this file is located in C:\Users\USERNAME\….)
  2. Create a backup of engine.ini file. Open the engine.ini with a text editor such as Notepad.
  3. Search for the tag <DirectXVersion>. You will find the line
    <DirectXVersion>0</DirectXVersion>
  4. Change this line so that it looks like this:
    <DirectXVersion>9</DirectXVersion>

You game will now run in DirectX 9 mode. With luck, this might resolve your CTD issue too.

By the way Anno 1404 was protected by TAGES + SolidShield DRM. However Razor1911 seems to have successfully hoodwinked the protection through the use of a virtual machine. Technically not a crack but a workaround nevertheless. Interesting…

SeductionGR (SGR) is quite a different tracker to what we’ve been posting the last few days – it’s a BiTorrent site focusing on lifestyle related content (the name might imply it’s a porn tracker but it’s not). Content on this tracker is divided into three major themes; Money, Women and Life. A wealth of multimedia content as well as E-books can be found under each of these categories. SeductionGR used to have an application based signup system where each user had to be manually approved by staff. However, signups have now been opened and you can instantly create an account if interested.

seductionGR

Some of you might not have heard about this tracker before but it’s not a tiny site nor is it a new entrant to the BitTorrent scene. SeductionGR is a pretty mature community when it comes to private trackers. There are over 4300 registered members and 5500+ active torrents as of 9/7/2009. Let’s not forget the fact that this is a niche tracker.

As mentioned above, content on SeductionGR is broken into three main categories; Women, Money and Life. The ‘Women’ section has e-books, DVD video on styles, seduction, sexology, video seminars and so on. The ‘Money’ section has media related to making money, both offline and online. Finally the ‘Life’ section includes torrents related to fitness/body building, magic, NLP, hypnosis, etc.  Actually there are lots of other categories – the list is too long to post here.

SeductionGR Screenshot

SeductionGR is now completely open to the public - the application based registration system is no more. Actually this was done a month ago & we somehow missed to update the blog. Anyways if you are interested in becoming a member of a decent lifestyle tracker, check this site out.

Stumbled across an interesting YouTube video yesterday (actually @isohunt Tweeted it). According to the video description it’s supposed to be an anti piracy video -“anti-piracy hero MC Double Def DP will return in the summer of 2009 to drop some more knowledge on would-be pirates in the sequel to 1992's "Don't Copy That Floppy!”. Watched it once and I still can’t figure out if this is some kind of a joke or a real propaganda video by SIIA (Software and Information Industry Association). I didn’t feel like giving up piracy at all – Instead, I had a sudden urge to puke. See for yourself:

Edit: According to Wikipedia the video is real. Now that’s really messed up lol.

This is quite a hot topic right now in the BitTorrent community and you might already have read about it elsewhere. However the fact remains that Packme.in (PiN) is one of the most original trackers to hit the BitTorrent scene recently, both in terms of looks and concept. Up until now, ‘Packs’ on private trackers were seen as something that added value to the site. In fact packs were one of the main reasons that helped trackers such as SCC and ScT attain the ‘elite’ status they enjoy today. And now, we have a tracker that deals entirely with packs and the best news of all is that it’s ratio free. How cool is that?

Packme.in

From user classes (you start as a Donkey and proceed to become a JackAss, FatAss and so on) to the login system, originality is written all over Packme.in. Even the interface is heavily customized and you wouldn’t be able to tell it’s based on the good old TBDEV script at first. I bet you’ve seen many new trackers that do not even bother to edit the FAQ template that comes with TBDEV by default – well this is not one of them. Packme.in’s FAQ page (called WhatTheFAQ or WTFAQ) seems to be completely re-written and actually does include information relevant to the tracker.

Let’s not forget the fact that ‘The Donkey’ is a brand new private tracker. It was launched on the 2nd of July and the growth so far has been phenomenal. Over 125 packs have already been uploaded and the best part is that the site seems to have a very active user base ( it would be nice to have the option to sort torrents by number of leechers/seeders/snatches, etc- this functionality is currently not there).

As mentioned earlier Packme.in is a ratio free tracker but there are strict rules against hit and running:

Do not hit and run. You must seed or leech a torrent a total of 7 days whenever it has started downloading. You have 96 hours to seed or leech the first 72 hours (It does not have to be consecutive) and you have 1 month to seed the 7 days total. Regular hit and running will result in the disabling of your account.

Seeding rules might seem a little harsh at first but I think they are necessary to keep those huge torrents alive. Speaking of torrents and site content, it’s all about packs. All sorts of torrent collections including Anime, Apps, Audiobooks, eBooks, eVideos, Films, Games, Music Videos, Porn and TV packs are available here:

PiN Categories
PiN PAcks

Although there is no upload:download ratio, the main ‘currency’ in PiN is Pack Points. With enough pack points you can purchase user class promotions, custom avatars, signatures and so on. All of this is done through the ‘Donkey Shop’. This system is somewhat similar to the one that is used in iTN tracker.

Unlike most new private trackers, Packme.in has never had an open signup and it’s unlikely that there will be one soon – currently users need an invitation code to become a member. However there are two ways you can easily obtain an invite; via E-mail request and via IRC interview. You can use either of these methods (but NOT both at the same time) to find a PiN invite.

If you are forwarding an invite request via E-mail, follow the process outlined below:

1. Create a blank E-mail. In the body of your E-mail please answer to the following questions as clearly as you can (write your answers next to the questions).

  1. Are you on any other private trackers? (If yes, please give as many profile links as you feel comfortable)
  2. Are you on any bittorrent forums? (If yes, please give as many profile links as you feel comfortable)
  3. Have you ever been banned or disabled from a torrent site? If yes, why?
  4. Are you staff at any bittorrent related tracker/forum? If yes, where?
  5. Are you a coder, designer, or other skilled user willing to lend his/her skills to PiN? (If yes, which one?)
  6. Would you like to be an uploader? (If yes, do you have a seedbox? Please give a speedtest)

2. Set the subject of your E-mail to “PiN invite – through FILEnetworks Blog”.

3. Send the E-mail to pininvites[at]gmail[dot]com
Invite applications will be reviewed by PiN staff – they might direct some follow up questions before sending an invite. Only the applicants approved by staff will be sent invites.

To make an invite request via IRC, join the official invites channel:

Server: irc.packme.in
Channel: #PackMe.IN
Direct Link: irc://irc.packme.in/packme.in
Once on the channel, check the topic for instructions.
If you are an IRC noob, check this article.

Good Luck!

Note: There is an ‘official review’ of Packme.in posted on their forums. This post however is an independent review by FILEnetworks which is purely based on our experience of the site.

Pretty awesome news indeed – after a number of 0.X.X builds, VLC Media Player 1.0.0 ‘goldeneye’ has finally been released. This is a major upgrade over earlier versions and incorporates a number of new features and improvements such as on the fly recording for all media, RTSP trickplay support, timeshift, frame-by-frame playback and more. VLC 1.0.0 also includes many new video decoders including Real Video 3.0 & 4.0 decoder, AES3 decoder, New Dolby Digital Plus - E-AC-3 (A/52b) decoder, new True HD/MLP decoder, etc. Best thing about the new features is that they have not made the app bloated – VLC is still a slim, lightweight media player that can play almost any sh1t you throw at it.

The demand for classic movie trackers has always been high in the BitTorrent community. There are some great private trackers for classic stuff around such as Cinematik, ILoveClassics, Cinemageddon, TV-Vault, etc and featured in this post is another similar tracker; GORMOGON. Yeah you probably have never heard about it before but the site is real - It’s actually a reincarnation of Classic Cinema Zone (CCZ), a popular old movies tracker. What’s interesting about Gormogon is that it’s not just limited to movies- other obscure media such as books, TV series and even music is allowed here.

GORMOGON Logo

Gormogon might be new site but it is buzzing with activity. New torrents are uploaded quite frequently and over 2600 indexed torrents are already available on this tracker (CCZ’s torrent index must have helped too). Additionally, Gormogon has over 500 registered members as of (7/6/2009). A limited number of torrents found on this site are tracked by external public trackers such as Demonoid. However the vast majority are tracked by Gormogon’s own private tracker (ratio rules apply to these).

As we mentioned earlier this is a tracker for rare, hard to find, obscure stuff. For example some of the movies indexed on Gormogon date back to 1935 and are not easily found on most other BitTorrent trackers. There is a good number of classic movies, TV shows and rare official soundtracks on this site and more obscure media including E-books, etc might be added in the future. Screenshot below captures some of the torrents found on this tracker:

GORGOMON Screenshot

Some of our readers might want to know more about the connection between Gormogon and Classic Cinema Zone. FedayeenTimmy, a moderator at Gormogon, was kind enough to give us a detailed explanation in this regard:

Gormorgon, as you might have guessed is what Classic Cinema Zone became. By itself it is about 3 months old, and started as a private invitation only from the original user base of CCZ. Crafted as a way to implement a whole host of improvements that the owners of CCZ wanted to do, without trying to drag the entire tracker along while testing, it was developed in parallel. CCZ has gone away, to be held for future projects (as yet undecided).

The initial [Gormogon] invites came from the CCZ user base, but only for selected folks from within that community. The Admin and Mod staff is a completely revamped group... the Mods have all been elevated from the serious Uploader community, and the Admins are serious pros from beyond just the Classic Cinema world.

It was also an effective way to clean the ranks of some registered users who didn't grasp the give part of the give and take of peer to peer, and wanted to treat the community as their own private Pirate Bay to leech exclusively.

Right now Gormogon is closed to the public and only those with an invitation code can join. Good news is that tracker staff have agreed to give 100 free invites to FILEnetworks Blog readers - all you have to do is to send an invite request E-mail with the following format:

  1. Set the subject of your E-mail to ‘Gormogon Invite – FILEnetworks Blog’.
  2. Send the E-mail to loup[dot]garou[at]wowway[dot]com.

An invitation code should be sent to your E-mail address within 1-2 days. Invites are given on a ‘first come, first served’ basis so you might want to hurry (requests are handled by Gormogon staff). Note: Please do not apply for an invite if you have no interest in classic movies/music/TV or other obscure stuff. If you are looking for new releases go look in the General/0Day section.

Special thanks to FedayeenTimmy and other GORMOGON tracker staff.
