This post is not really an update on private torrent tracker open signups. It’s rather a relatively short news update on three well known torrent sites; PTN, GFT and SceneRace. We’ve been getting a lot of mails asking what’s up with these trackers as of late and hopefully this post should answer at least a few of your questions. Well the info we have is not entirely ‘good news’ but it could have been a lot worse ; PTN has been experiencing hosting problems, SceneRace is locating their servers in another country and GFT has lost the entire torrent index.

PTN

The popular ratio free movie tracker PTN has been down for several days. The site does not display any messages but simply times out when trying to establish a connection. The reason for this is that they are having hosting problems. Here is what ‘Rodin’ (PTN community rep)  posted on TPS forums:  “we have some host problems and we are trying to resolve them asap”. So it’s not just you that’s having trouble accessing the tracker. However, knowing that this is just a temporary downtime should be comforting for most PTN members.

SceneRace
scenerace
SceneRace (ScR), a ratioless General/0Day tracker based on Gazelle codebase, seems to have just completed a server move. Guess which country they moved to? Sweden. With all the recent Swedish private tracker shutdowns after TPB trial, one would think Sweden’s role as a safe heaven for BitTorrent trackers was over. However this does not seem to be the case – not according to SCR admins anyways.

You are getting this message because you are a member at SceneRace.net
Over the next hour or so we will be moving the site over to our new server in Sweden, so you may experience up to 48 hours of down time (maybe longer if your ISP sucks)
ScR isn't gone or anything, we're just moving
FYI we chose sweden because the laws are still safe for trackers, even if certain court cases say otherwise...
-The SceneRace.net Team

Let’s hope SCR has a long stay in their new home.

GFT
GFT tracker
Out of the three trackers mentioned in the article, GFT probably suffered the worst – they seem to have lost their entire torrent index. When I logged into the site about a day ago, there were only two torrents being tracked. This was pretty odd because the lat time I checked GFT tracked over 5000 torrents. The following site notices explain what happened:

16.06.2009 - Someone broke the Site

All torrents except for today have been deleted, u are safe to remove them from your client without getting a HnR warning

16.06.2009 - Restoring Old Torrents

If any users still have the old .torrent files for stuff they previously were seeding...
Feel free to upload these .torrent files to the site.
Any users who still may have these old torrents seeding in their client will still be marked as seeding these files once they are again uploaded to the site.
These files being re-uploaded to the site will allow us to rebuild our archives of older content so long as people still have them in their clients.

This probably won’t matter because GFT is not a good tracker to download relatively old releases anyways – it’s best known for kick ass pre times. Their pre times do not seem to have suffered and new releases are being indexed as usual. Good enough for me.

In other news, MP3 music tracker SceneSound has seemingly re-enabled country bans after lifting them only two days ago.

It’s been a while since we covered a sports tracker (last featured sports sites being T3nnis.TV and ExtremeBits). Although we hear about General/0Day trackers opening up all the time, dedicated sports tracker launches are pretty rare. However today we are going to talk about Total Sports, the newest addition to the sports tracker scene dominated by giants such as Sportbit and Sport-Scene. Unlike many other similar trackers recently featured on FILEnetworks Blog, Total Sports does not focus on a specific sport – it tracks a wide variety of sporting events related to a number of different sports. In short, it’s a ‘general’ tracker for sports fans.

Total Sports Tracker

Total-Sports is a brand new torrent site which is only a day old. Following notice about the launch is posted on site homepage:

Jun-17-09 - Welcome To Total-Sports!

I would like to welcome you all to a new Dedicated Sports torrent site. I know some members at XWT have been waiting quite a while for this site to open, sorry for the delay and yes we allow boxing here too.
There is currently a Free Leech on ALL torrents until July 1st. So this should give you all a good chance at getting a positive ratio.
As we are always looking for Dedicated Uploaders and Cappers, so if you are interested in helping out please send me a PM.

Since this site is so new, not much can be predicted about its future right now. However 25+ torrents have been added on the first day itself and the total number of registered users on this tracker has already exceeded 700. The start definitely looks promising.

As we mentioned earlier, a number of different sports are covered on Total-Sports tracker. This includes Cricket, Baseball, BasketBall, Boxing, F1, Golf, Hockey, Football, Motorsports, Olympics, Surf, Tennis, US Football and X Games. The following screenshot shows part of the torrent index:

Total Sports Torrent Index

And by the way, kudos to whoever decided to index Cricket torrents – not even major sports trackers cover this stuff ( it might not be a hit in the U.S. but Cricket is hugely popular in countries such as Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, England, Australia, etc).

Coming back to site features, Total-Sports tracker has a pretty decent layout. It’s not based on Gazelle but the interface is clean and easy to navigate. Something I’ve noticed is that this tracker does not have a requests section or a seed bonus system – not yet anyways.

As of 18/6/2009, Total-Sports is open for registration. Since the site is new, you can expect the doors to stay open for a while. Anyways if you are a sports fan, check it out.

SvartaKatten, a Swedish private torrent tracker that is usually closed for registration, has opened its doors for 1000 new members. This is a General/0day torrent site with both Swedish and English releases. Even though we say it’s general tracker, SvartaKatten mainly focuses on movie, TV and music torrents. It’s one of those trackers with multiple browse pages – one page lists movies, TV and HD video while a separate browse page indexes music torrents. Even non Swedish readers might find the site useful because there is a significant amount of English torrents indexed including several dozen ‘ exclusive packs’.

SvartaKatten

SvartaKatten (which i believe has something to do with cats when translated to Swedish) is a pretty well established general tracker with over 8500 members and 2000+ torrents. Torrent index is divided into three sections - one for TV/movie releases (~1200 torrents), one for music releases (450+ torrents) and another for fulfilled requests (50+ torrents).

When it comes to General/0day trackers, the number of ‘exclusive packs’ indexed plays a pretty big role. Since most of the individual scene/p2p releases can be found elsewhere, packs bring some sort of uniqueness to BitTorrent sites. SvartaKatten is not short on such packs; it’s ‘SK-Packs’ category already contains close to 150 torrents, most of which are on free leech and pretty well seeded.

SvartaKatten packs

Note that some of the indexed torrents on this tracker are Swedish releases. Site layout too is in Swedish but it’s not hard to find your way around even if you didn’t know the language.

SvartaKatten is usually closed for registrations but signups have been opened to recruit 1000 more members. At the time this post is being written, there are around 500 spots available (you might want to hurry because they seem to get filled pretty quickly).

When you say ‘Stroke It’ the first thing that comes to mind is not a piece of software :D. However this post is about a really cool application that lets you control Windows programs through the use of unique mouse gestures. Say for example you want to change the volume level of a media player – with StrokeIt around, you wouldn’t have to find the volume slider, click and drag it in the application. Instead, you can ‘train’ the program to recognize a mouse gesture. All you have to do is to hold the right mouse button and draw the mouse gesture (previously trained) to increase the volume.

strokeit mouse gesture

It’s not easy to explain this program’s functionality in a blog post such as this. You’ve got to try it out for yourself to experience it’s ‘awesomeness’.

Developer Description

StrokeIt is an advanced mouse gesture recognition engine and command processor. What is a mouse gesture? Mouse gestures are simple symbols that you "draw" on your screen using your mouse. When you perform a mouse gesture that StrokeIt can recognize, it will perform the "action" associated with that gesture. In short, it's a nifty little program that lets you easily control programs by drawing symbols with your mouse.

StrokeIt can currently recognize more than 80 unique mouse gestures and can be easily trained to recognize many more. For each gesture recognized, StrokeIt can execute a user-defined set of commands within the active application. StrokeIt commands are defined within plugin libraries that can be easily created by third parties to do nearly anything.

Ratio free private trackers were once a rarity in the BitTorrent scene – however this has now changed. New no-ratio trackers such as GFT, PTN, SceneLive, SceneRace and many others have been launched recently and there will definitely be lots more to come. This article is about InspireThe.Net (better known as iTN), a brand new General/0Day tracker which does not have a ratio system. iTN is a BitTorrent site with Polish origins – it’s content however is mainly English (Scene/P2P releases). InspireThe.Net has only been around for two months but so far things have looked very positive for this tracker.

itn tracker

iTN has added over 800 torrents in the relatively short period of time they’ve been online. The autoupload bot they use should no doubt have helped achieve this feat (similar bots are used by most zero day trackers including SCC, GFT, SCR and many others). As of 15/6/2009, there are over 600+ registered members on this tracker. The user base seems to be pretty active – there aren’t many ‘1 seeder torrents’ on iTN (which are otherwise commonly found on new private trackers) and it definitely is not a ghost town.

As for the content, this is a General/0Day tracker. Do not expect to find any niche content here other than major scene and p2p releases. iTN however has a growing collection of ‘Internal Releases’ and Packs which include torrents unique to this tracker.

iTN screenshot

As we mentioned earlier iTN does not have a ratio system. Instead, it’s based on a credits system that is somewhat similar to that used by the popular TV tracker tvtorrents.com. Credits are deducted from your account when you download torrents and are added when you seed back downloaded files. Well here is the cool part – you can do a lot more with iTN credits other than just download torrents. ‘The Shop’ is the central location where you can trade in credits to access additional site features and enhancements. You can even permanently increase the rate which credits are added to your account by purchasing a multiplier (2X multiplier costs 40 credits while 3X costs 60 credits). It is also possible to trade in your earned credits for an invitation – an invite will cost you 100 credits.

Note: iTN is currently having problems with the domain http://inspirethe.net. You can however access the site using its IP http://94.23.74.23. Following is quoted from site homepage:

Jun-13-09 - Domain problem

Our polish ISP refued us inspirethe.net domain, so we should get used to use IP adress 94.23.74.23. Update tracker adress in your clients and tell it to your friends please. Sorry for all inconvenience. I hope we get back to our domain soon or replace it with new one.
Regards
krzys

How to get invited to iTN

InspireThe.Net is closed for public registration and the only way in is via an invite. Good news is that an unlimited number of invitations are available on IRC. Users will have to go through a short interview before getting invited. The interview is pretty short - there are only 10 questions and you will be asked to provide screenshots of two private trackers that you are already a member of. Invites channel details are given below:

Server: irc.pila.pl
Channel Name: #get.inspired
Port: 7000
Direct Link: irc://irc.pila.pl:7000/get.inspired
IRC Noob? : Read this first.

Once you join the invites channel you will receive the questions in PM (private message). You should number your answers and send them to the user name mentioned in channel topic, also via PM. Wait till you get a response from iTN staff. Note that you might have to wait for a while since there may be times when all channel ops are away.

SceneSound tracker country bans lifted

Posted by TEAM FILEnetworks | 6/16/2009 | | 3 Comments »

It’s pretty normal for BitTorrent trackers to ban entire countries these days. Many popular trackers such as SCC and BitMeTV usually have 2-3 countries in their ‘ban list’. Excessive cheating, scamming and account trading by users in a particular country is usually given as the primary reason for such mass bans. While it’s normal for torrent sites to ban 2-3 countries from accessing site/tracker (even that after careful consideration), have you ever heard of a tracker banning 24 countries all at once? Well SceneSound (if you don’t know about SceneSound, read this) did it earlier but the good news is that tracker staff have seemingly reversed this decision.

The following countries were initially banned from SceneSound:

  • Za – South Africa
  • Ch – Switzerland
  • Ie – Ireland
  • Ar - Argentina
  • Mx – Mexico
  • Hu – Hungary
  • Tr – Turkey
  • It - Italy
  • Pl - Poland
  • Il – Israel
  • Ro – Romania
  • Nz – New Zealand
  • Sk - Slovakia
  • Sg - Singapore
  • Cn - China
  • Ru - Russia
  • Rs - Serbia
  • De - Germany
  • Gr - Greece
  • Es - Spain
  • Ec - Ecuador
  • br - Brazil
  • pt – Portugal

If you are a reader from any of the countries above and could not register the last time SceneSound opened signups, today is your lucky day. The country bans have been lifted and signups have been re-opened. Go nuts!

By the way, SceneSound has enjoyed continuous rapid growth of the user base as well as the torrent index ever since it’s launch. It now tracks over 5700 torrents and has an active user base of 4100+ members (and this tracker is only around two weeks old!).

First of all let me tell you that this is a pretty old application (released mid 2008). Most of you probably already know about Unlocker but I’m posting it here since it’s a must have utility for every Windows user. How many times have you come across one of those annoying error messages such as ‘file cannot be deleted since it’s still in use by an application’ or ‘cannot delete folder : it’s being used by another person or program’, when trying to remove an unwanted file or a folder from your system. With Unlocker, you no longer have to cope with such errors. Unlocker is a small software capable of identifying and terminating processes that have locks on files.

After a series of articles about new private torrent trackers, we return to an ‘old school’ site. Acid or A-L is a well established General/0-Day private BitTorrent site that is over 4 years old. It tracks both new and old movies, music, games, E-books, appz and other torrents released by scene and p2p groups. Acid is a tracker that does not prefer much publicity – posting of full tracker URL/name in public is prohibited by site rules. However, if you are looking forward to get into this tracker, keep reading – there are two ways you can get invited for free.

Acid

While Acid is a great general/0day torrent tracker in its own right, the tight knit community of helpful members is probably it’s strongest aspect. Speaking about community trackers’,  one of the most common problems associated such sites is the small user base leading to low seeder/leecher activity on torrents. This is not much of a problem on AL – it’s one of the largest community trackers around with over 14000 registered members. As of 14/6/2009, there are over 5000 active torrents indexed on the tracker.

As for the content on Acid, almost all major scene and p2p releases are tracked. In addition to torrents that can be found on almost all other General/0Day trackers, AL has quite a few exclusive, internal releases. Such torrents can usually be identified by the tags ‘TeamAcid’, ‘RequestAcid’, ‘Acid’, ‘ACID INT’, etc. The following screenshot shows some of the internal releases found in AL’s torrent index:

acid internal releases

Apart from the usual features on private torrent tracker Acid has several extras such as an arcade, live DJs and a Jukebox. A high res screenshot highlighting all major features of Acid can be found here.

How to get a free invite

You can obtain an invite to this tracker using any one (but not both) of the methods below:

  1. Send an E-mail with the subject ‘Acid Invite’ to acidinviter@gmail.com. Be sure to include two screenshots of at least two private torrent trackers that you are already a member of.
    OR
  2. Login to Acid invites IRC channel and request an invite there. Invite channel details are as follows:
    Server: irc.pron.org.uk
    Channel: #acid-invites
    Direct Link: irc://irc.pron.org.uk/acid-invites
Note: You need to register your nickname on the IRC server before you can join the channel.
Type /ns register password email in mIRC console (once connected to the server) and hit enter to register your nick - replace password and email with your own details. Then type /join #acid-invites to join the channel.
If you are an IRC noob, read this article.

Please do not apply for an invite if you do not plan on actually using the account.

Good Luck!

Special thanks to methods, MuddSlinger, FlameRX, cambo, savvyboy, vibes and other AL staff for hooking up FILEnetworks Blog with Acid invites.

In February 2009, we introduced to our readers a new private movie torrent tracker named 700MBz. It’s been over four months since the site’s launch and in the meantime lots of things have changed– it’s time for an updated article. For those of you who missed our previous post, 700M.Bz is a movie tracker which only tracks 700MB and 1.4GB XViD rips – you won’t find any DVDR releases or HD content here. Scene releases as well as a lot of user uploaded movies are indexed on this tracker. 700MBz is based on the Gazelle codebase – a BitTorrent tracker script pioneered by What.CD.

700m.bz

There is no doubt that 700MBz has grown in the past few months. The site’s user base which comprised only of ~100 members when we first reviewed it has grown to an impressive 3400+ registered users. Torrent index too has expanded from around 150 movies to nearly 650 movies (as of June 2009 ). Something I would like to see on this tracker is the introduction of ‘packs’– currently there are no movie packs indexed other than individual torrents.

700mbz

Earlier on 700MBz received a lot of criticism regarding it’s Gazelle implementation - initial version was an out of the box, un-customized version of Gazelle which looked exactly like the layout of What.CD. However during the past four months 5 additional custom stylesheets have been introduced (styles can be switched through your profile page).

Even though it’s a few months old, this is still a young tracker.  Like most new trackers, 700MBz is somewhat lacking in user activity. The good thing however is that the the SysOp seems to be aware of it  and several measures have been taken to encourage more activity. Registrations have been re-opened to increase the number of users and free leech has been enabled on all new torrents for 24 hours to increase activity of existing members. The new ‘24 hour’ free leech rule is pretty interesting – if you download a movie within 24 hours since it was added to the tracker, only the amount you uploaded will be recorded by the site – a great way to build and maintain ratio.

As mentioned above 700MBz registrations will be open till the site reaches max user limit (which is 7500 – there are around 4000 more spots available). Each new user gets 1.4GB free upload credit as well as two free invitations to the tracker. If you are interested, check it out.
