Just a few hours ago we reported about the launch of Tehconnection V2 with many new features. TC’s migration to Gazelle has obviously caused a renewed interest in the tracker – ever since we published the article yesterday, our email inbox is being bombarded with TC invite requests. We usually don’t give away invites for any private tracker via email (that is only done via our giveaways section). There is a far easier way to obtain a Tehconnection invite – just request for one on their IRC channel.

How to join Tehconnection IRC and how request for an invite

1. Download mIRC – a popular IRC client for windows. Download links and a brief tutorial can be found here.
2. Install mIRC, restart your browser if it was open during installation.
3. Click on irc://irc.tehconnection.eu/TehConnection.Invites to open the Tehconnection invites channel. If you are using an IRC client other than mIRC, log on to server irc.tehconnection.eu and channel #TehConnection.Invites
4. Post your E-mail address on the channel and wait patiently till a staff member responds. Once you register with the new invite, don’t forget to confirm the successful signup on the IRC channel before you leave.

The final build of BitComet 1.09, the popular BitTorrent/HTTP/FTP client, is now available for download. This build contains core improvements, core bugfixes and user interface improvements over previous 1.08 and 1.07 builds (all released in January 2009). Unlike other dedicated BT clients such as uTorrent and Vuze, BitComet has the ability to download HTTP and FTP files in addition to torrent files. This makes it more of a hybrid download manager rather than a BitTorrent client.

Some of the major features in BItTorrent include support for DHT using Kedemelia, Web seeding, browser plugins, NAT traversal, etc. Note that even though BotComet versions 0.85 to 0.97 came bundled with adware, v1.09 is 100% adware and spyware free. I personally haven’t used this software much since I kind of developed an addiction towards uTorrent. But if you don’t want to use several different applications to download torrents, regular HTTP downloads and FTP links, BitComet can be used as an all in one solution.

Note: If you use private torrent trackers, make sure BitComet 1.09 is an allowed client before you use it. Some BitTorrent clients and versions are banned on private trackers and using a banned client can result in your account getting disabled/warned. List of allowed clients for a particular tracker can usually be found in a FAQ page or in an official forum thread.

There was a time when ratio free private torrent trackers were pretty rare and it was not easy to get into the few that existed. But as of late, we have seen more and more no-ratio trackers joining the BitTorrent scene. SceneRtorrents or SRT is one of the newest sites to join the ratio free club. SRT is a general/0day torrent tracker which tracks scene/p2p releases and its users are not required to maintain a minimum upload:download ratio.

The first thing I noticed about this tracker is its name; it immediately reminded me of SceneTorrents (ScT). Anyway SRT does not seem to be a ripoff or a copy of SCT other than for the similar sounding names. SRT currently tracks over 650 torrents and has a user base close to 1500 members. Note that this tracker has only been online for a month and these statistics are pretty good for a 1 month old general tracker.

If you look closely, you’ll notice that there are two sections on the top menu titled ‘Browse’ and ‘Browse 10MB’. According to SRT admins, torrents in the Browse10MB section are seeded by uploaders who have very high bandwidth connections:

As you can see, we have two browse sections. One, labeled 'Browse10MB' which is seeded by uploaders with 10 MB high speed connections and we also have a 'Browse' section for uploaders with a connection below 10 MB to use. If you think you could help out on sRT, then please apply to have uploader status .

Majority of the torrents currently indexed on SRT are in the Browse10MB section which should mean better download speeds overall. Note that most of the torrents have only 1 seeder – a problem common to all new trackers.

As for the content , SRT tracks many scene releases including 0day stuff. There is also a large number of packs available. As of 20/1/2009, there are 63 movie packs (x264, XViD) and 76 TV season packs online on SRT. I did not check if the all packs were unique to SRT but if they are, this is impressive stuff from a 1 month old private tracker.

As mentioned earlier SRT is ratio free. However that does not mean you can hit and run at will – you need to see every torrent for at least 48 hours total. The amount of data you uploaded to the tracker during this period does not matter – the only requirements is to keep seeding the torrent for a total of 48 hours.

Down here in Sri Lanka, Cricket is a hugely popular sport. Most of the cricket matches are broadcast live on FTA and satellite television but some of you may not be able to catch the live action on TV due various reasons (work, university, etc). If this is the case, there is no need to worry - you can watch most of the international encounters online for free.

 

This is made possible with MYP2P.EU – a service that indexes live streaming links for cricket and a range of other sports (see our article about the site here). All you need to watch the matches online is a sufficiently high bandwidth internet connection – usually anything with 256kbps+ download speed will do just fine.

Most of the streaming media indexed on MYP2P can be viewed using Windows Media Player. CDBunerXP is one of the best free alternatives to Nero Burning ROM. As we’ve discussed before, Nero has become bulky with all the new features added to the suite. If you just want to burn optical disks, CDBurnerXP is the perfect software to have. It can burn CD/DVD and Blu-Ray disks, erase disks (supported disk formats that is), create audio CDs, created mixed mode CDs, burn, convert or create ISO image files and basically everything else you’d expect from a standard Burner software.

It took a while but they’ve finally done it. TehConnection (TC), one of the largest dedicated movie torrent trackers currently online, has migrated to the Gazelle codebase. The site now boasts a faster, much more elegant user interface with tons of new features such as ‘peoples’ section, Tehconnection Dashboard UI (DUI) and a new and improved forum.

The peoples feature lets you search for directors, actors and other movie related personalities. Search for a celebrity and you’ll see a Biography, photographs as well as a list of related movies complete with youtube trailers, movie posters and other information. They have also implemented something called the DUI:

The Dashboard UI (or DUI) is something we've cooked up to enhance your site browsing experience. Right now, you can see it on Peoples and in browsing, but look out to see it deployed many more new and exciting places

In addition to the DUI and ‘Peoples’ feature, TC’s requests section and the forums have also returned.

Apart from the new features, several changes have been done to the tracker rules as well. The revised set of rules can be found here. Requirements for user class promotions have been lowered - For example you now only need to upload 50GB to become a ‘Teh Fanatic’ (something similar to PU) as opposed to 75GB earlier. Uploads have been opened to all users classes. It seems that several country bans that were previously in effect have also been removed. We do not know whether this is permanent or temporary.

There are many applications that allow you to listen to online radio stations and Screamer Radio is one of the more popular ones. Screamer is a totally free piece of software and does not come bundled with spyware, adware, banner ads or any other unwanted crap like that. It supports a number of operating systems including Windows Vista and even the older Windows 98.

I first tried out Screamer about 5 years back and it’s become one of my favorite apps ever since. Here is an update on three private torrent trackers that are open for signup on 19th of January, 2009. NordicDVDR, a DVD only tracker running on Gazelle as well as Nordic-T and Nordicbits (both general/0day trackers) - are all currently open for new registrations. Although these sites have the word ‘Nordic’ in their name, plenty of English releases including warez scene material are available for download.

Scene group BReWErS released a trainer for Mirror’s Edge (PC) just moments ago. The trainer includes 7 options including the ability to save/restore anywhere, super speed, unlimited health, one hit kill, etc. I personally don’t use any cheats or trainers since it ruins the gameplay but there are lots of people who simply love em. For their sake we’ve included download links for the trainer – you don’t need to bother with paid unlimited Cheathappens accounts anymore.

How to run the Trainer and What it does

Launch the trainer (bws-mirr01.exe) before you launch the game. Keep it running in the background and press one of the following keys while in game to activate the corresponding effect:
