Smart Projects ISOBuster is without a doubt one of the best optical disk data recovery software currently available. I’ve been using it for the past two years and can personally recommend it to anyone in need. IsoBuster can recover data from damaged or scratched optical disks with ease. From older Video CDs and data CDs to modern Blu-Ray disks, IsoBuster supports a wide variety of optical disk formats. Just insert a CD, DVD or a Blu-Ray disk and mount it in ISOBuster. You will get access the disk’s file system, session details and track information. If a part of the disk is damaged beyond recovery, chances are that you will still be able to recover undamaged clusters (this works great with some video files). You can sometimes access session details lost due to malfunctioning burning software or hardware. Of course, don’t expect miracles from ISOBuster; If you insert a disk that is ripped in half ISOBuster wouldn’t be able to do squat with it. And if ISOBuster can’t recover it, it’s unlikely that any other software can.

Demonoid, one of the most popular semi private trackers around, has just opened free registrations for all users. We have posted about torrent trackers dedicated to kids content such as ChildBytes, CartoonChaos (Open) and TorrentKids (Open) before. Here is another great tracker for kids content. TTOKTV (aka The Tao of Kids TV) is a private torrent tracker specializing in Children's TV Torrents. You can find a lot of Kids cartoons, educational content, drama and other children’s content on this tracker. In addition to the TV Shows, TTOKTV tracks kids’ music, audiobooks and other extras as well. With over 5500 users and nearly 800 torrents, TTOKTV is one of the larger kids trackers out there.

Good news if you are a movie pirate! An R5 rip of the popular movie starring Seth Rogen, ‘Zack and Miri Make A Porno’ has leaked to internet. This was initially released by BaLD, a well known group from the warez scene. Video source of the leaked release is apparently from an R5 DVD (DVD for region 5). BaLD have replaced the Russian audio in the original DVD with an English audio stream obtained from a previous English TeleSync release (hence the LiNE tag). It comes as a 1CD (700MB) XViD encoded rip. This release has already made its way from top of the piracy pyramid (scene topsites) to lower levels such as public BitTorrent trackers. Given the popularity and high rating of this movie, expect this one to be downloaded a lot of times.

Description

Lifelong friends and roommates Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) are facing hard times and a mountain of debt. BitmeTV (BMTV) is definitely one of the best and most sought after private trackers ever. It’s right up there in the list of dedicated TV torrent trackers and it tracks almost every major US/Canadian TV Show currently airing/recently aired. Getting into BitMeTv usually requires and invite. Unlike most private trackers we’ve posted about on FILEnetworks Blog, BitMeTv has had only one open signup for the past 2 and a half years. Finding a BitMeTv  invite is not that easy either, specially if you don’t have a good reputation in invite sharing forums. However, a change in Bitmetv’s invites policy for the month of December 2008 might just have made obtaining a BMTV invite relatively easy, even for novice users.

Generally, if you invite someone into BitMeTv, you are responsible for their actions. If the person who was invited got caught cheating, trading or breaking any other rules, the inviter too may face the consequences. This is what made it so difficult for newbies to get hold of a BMTV invite in giveaways conducted on most invite sharing forums. So here is the good news; I noticed the following posted on BMTV homepage today:

Wanted to invite some friends but have been worried that it might fall back on you badly?
Well, anyone invited during the month of December 2008's inviter will be immune for being responsible for those invites. So invite your friends and say stuff the consequences

This means than during December 2008, BMTV members will be extra generous towards invite requests (if you post in the proper places that is). This will also leave users with relatively low rep (reputation, credits or whatever else that measures your trustworthiness on invite forums) with a standing chance on obtaining a BitMeTv invite. Tehconnection.eu is a private movie torrent tracker which specializes in English movies (US/UK releases mostly). As we reported when the site first went online, Tehconnection is from the same crew behind SceneTorrents (ScT) tracker. This tracker has made some good progress both in terms of indexed torrents and user base for the few months it’s been online. Currently Tehconnection tracks over 3300 active torrents and has a user base in excess of 16000. They have a decent collection of torrents including both scene and non scene releases as well as several great movie packs.

About two months ago we reported that Tehconnection was planning to upgrade to the Gazelle codebase. This however seems to have taken a lot longer than initially expected. Given below is a update from the admins (posted several weeks ago):

So its been a month and Im sure you are all eager for TehConnection Gazelle to go online, well believe us, its coming soon. We aren't going to lie, we hit a few snags with certain aspects of our modification, but that was fixed a few hours ago, its not going to be much longer, you can believe that.

The current layout of Tehconnection is not bad. But TC could achieve a lot more with Gazelle; examples are Passthepopcorn and Wunza -both gazelle based movie trackers. It would indeed be great news if the admins manage to complete the migration without further delays.

Tehconnection signups were closed for some time when the site’s user count hit 16000. Now they have increased the user limit to 16500 which means that around 350 new spots are available for the taking. If you are interested, here is your chance to get into TC. It’s a must have if you are a movie fan.

On of the largest paytoleech (P2L) sites in existence, TV-Land (TVL), was shut down by Dutch anti piracy group BREIN only two days ago. It’s not operation site down all over again or anything like that but this will still be a blow to at least a few BitTorrent trackers who depended on TV Land for their releases. Pay to Leech (P2L) sites are where you can get access to scene released 0-Day (zero day) for a fee. 

Interestingly, TV-Land was shut down after a scene notice exposed the affiliation between P2P sites and TV-Land. One of the BitTorrent trackers hit hard by the shutdown is SceneTorrents (SCT). ScT is usually one of the first trackers to track scene releases but their pre times suffered greatly during the time TVL was down. BREIN’s press release (you might want to translate it) claims TV Land is the largest topsite ever to be busted - of this I am not so sure. It does not look like any arrests were made but all 3 servers of the site (which were hosted on Leaseweb btw) have reportedly been seized.

This whole incident most likely will not affect ScT in the long run; TV Land was not the only PayToLeech site there existed. New sites go online, some sites get shut down; it’s a vicious cycle.

There is no doubt that ESET’s NOD32/Smart Security and Kaspersky Lab’s Kaspersky Anti Virus (KAV)/Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) are some of the most popular security products currently available on the market. Due to their high popularity, these products are among the list of most pirated security products. In addition to usual workarounds and trial extensions, ‘fans’ have made utilities that crawl the web and automatically retrieve valid usernames and keys for these products. The aim of this post is to shed some light on several such utilities that are currently around (and seem to be the most popular); NodEnabler, NodLogin and Kaspersky Key Finder.

Tools for ESET NOD32 and ESET Smart Security (ESS)

Licensing mechanism of ESET’s security products, namely NOD32 and ESET Smart Security (ESS), is based purely on usernames and passwords (there is no product activation or validation required). The only major difference between trial version and commercial versions of NOD32 and ESS is that you cannot update the trial versions once the 30 day tryout period is over. There have been many hacks and cracks (including 3rd party update servers) to extend the trial period of NOD32 and ESS but ESET has made life difficult for pirates by blocking extended trials and blacklisting 3rd party servers at regular intervals. This is where NodEnabler and NodLogin come in. Instead of merely trying to extend the trial period, these software automatically download daily updated commercial licenses (usernames and passwords that is) from various web sources.

NodEnabler

NodEnabler works with most version 3 (v3) products of ESET Smart Security and NOD32 Anti Virus. What NodEnabler does is that it acquires usernames and passwords for ESET products from the web and inserts them to the program automatically through the system registry. User interaction is not required for the most part; even when a key is expired or blacklisted, NodEnabler would search for a new one and install it automatically. It’s primary source of commercial licenses seem to be www.nod321.com, a Chinese site with daily updated NOD32 and ESS keys which has been around for some time. This means that as long as the site is up, NodEnabler will continue to work fine. If the site goes down, the program will be useless.

NodLogin

NodLogin is another tool similar to NodEnabler; it downloads ESET Smart Security and NOD32 Anti Virus commercial keys from web sources and injects them to the product through the system registry. Unlike NodEnabler, Nodlogin can autodetect the ESET product version installed on your system. This program too has a weakness; it depends on a single, central server to download commercial keys. If this server (which happens to be run by the developer of NodLogin) goes down, so will the effectiveness of NodLogin.

Tools for Kaspersky Anti Virus (KAV) and Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS)

Kaspersky security products too need either a working trial (non expired) or a commercial license for definition updates to be downloaded. Products can be activated online using the activation key obtained during purchase or they can be activated using a .key file. The second method (.key file) is the one most commonly exploited by software pirates.

Kaspersky Key Finder 

Kaspersky Key Finder is a utility that downloads .key files for Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) and Kaspersky Anti Virus (KAV) from a web based database of daily updated keys. It’s able to find and download keys for Kaspersky Internet Security and Kaspersky Anti Virus v6, v7 and v8 products. Kaspersky KeyFinder shares the same weakness of NodLogin and NodEnable; it relies on a set of web based servers that contain daily updated keys. These central servers were located on Freewebs (free web hosting provider) and they have all recently been taken down by the host, citing abuse. As of 28/11/2008, the servers remain offline and Kaspersky Keyfinder returns “unable to access database” error.

Other Notes

Most of these tools are detected by Anti virus software as viruses and malware (HackTool, Generic Malware, etc). If you download from their original sources (sorry, download links will not be provided here), these tools do not actually contain any viruses or malware; most of the detections are false positives. Anyway, if you download from untrusted 3rd party sites, there is no guarantee of the files being clean.

7Track.org is a private torrent tracker which indexes general content including movies, music, games, 0-Day releases, appz and TV Shows. It’s a fairly new tracker to enter the BitTorrent scene but 7Track has already managed to secure a significant user base. There are currently nearly 3000 users and close to 800 torrents on this tracker. 7Track is based on the Gazelle codebase. Although gazelle based specialized trackers such as Wunza, PassThePopCorn, LzTr and nTorrents are nowadays a commodity, 7Track is perhaps the only general/0Day tracker to use the new codebase other than Torrentit.

7Track indexes both scene and non scene releases. Apart from individual torrents, there are quite a few unique packs as well.

 

Being a Gazelle tracker, the layout of 7Track is user friendly and fast. There are currently 2 stylesheets available; sovietski and BlueBit (screenshot above was taken with BlueBit style selected). You seem to get 2 invites upon signup (at least I got 2 when I signed up about a week ago). 7Track registrations are currently open; check it out this tracker looks very promising.
