Whatever security measures you implement, some viruses do manage to sneak in an bite you in the ass. Even if you manage to remove them later using a better AV software, some leave lasting damage usually to the system registry. Examples are the inability to show hidden files, disabled task manager, disabled firewall and the list goes on. Of course a system reinstall will solve the problems but that is a painstakingly long process. This is where Remove Restrictions Tool (RRT) can help. RRT includes options to undo over 35 common changes caused by viruses. RRT

The following problems can be resolved using RRT

  1. Disable Folder Options >> so the user can't set the option to show hidden files!
  2. Disable Registry Tools >> so the user can't see what is going on during system startup!
  3. Disable Ctrl+Alt+Del >> so the user can't see the virus and the other applications running!
  4. Disable Show hidden files & folders >> so the user can't see the malware bodies which always come with hidden attribute set to true!
  5. Disable Run Command >> so the user can't use it to run some tools to track the virus activites of remove it.
  6. Disable Windows Firewall (SharedAccess) >> so the virus can send & receive any data through the network without the attention of the user!
  7. Disable Windows Firewall (Wscsvc) >> so the virus can send & receive any data through the network without the attention of the user!
  8. Disable Windows Firewall (Wuauserv) >> so the virus can send & receive any data through the network without the attention of the user!
  9. Restrict Internet Explorer Home Page Changing >> so the user can't change the malicious web page set by the malware!
  10. Restrict Internet Explorer Closing >> so the user can't close the pops up windows that appear when visiting the malicious web page or any other website!
  11. Hide Internet Options >> so the user can't change any setting set by the malware!

  17. Disable Command Prompt (cmd.exe) >> so the user cannot run any console programs like command prompt removal tools...
  18. Disable Control Panel >> so the user cannot use the control panel applets.
  19. Hide system files/folders >> so the user can't see the malware bodies which usually come with system attribute set to true!
  20. Change Show Hidden files option button >> So even if you select "Show hidden files and folders from folder options these files & folder will not be shown!

Here is another nice tracker for Indian (Hindi) movie fans. IMTorrents is a private torrent tracker specializing in BollyWood movies, Indian music and TV Series. If you are looking for HollyWood blockbusters this obviously is not the place to get them. In fact, iMT does not track any MPAA rated movies. But it does track a lot of desi stuff so if you like Indian/Pakistani stuff this tracker is for you.

One nice thing I noted about this tracker is that it's minimum ratio requirement is 0.3. Even low bandwidth users should not have problems maintaining this ratio. In addition to that they have the entire Music and TV sections on free leech. iMT tracks close to 2000 active torrents and has a user base in excess of 20000 (at time of this post). They don't track any CAM or Pre-DVD movies so expect better quality stuff.

Signups will be open till 07th September 2008.

Video quality is typical for an R5 (identical to DVDRip) release and expect public torrent trackers to track this release soon. To obtain more information about the leaked version and to view samples please visit this link.

It would be fair to say that over the years Nero software suite because increasingly bloated. There have been many useful features added to the suite but useless crap such as Nero Scout (man I hate that POS) was added as well. Nero Micro and Nero Lite are custom made editions of Nero which have some of the the bloated features removed. Nero was initially known for CD/DVD burning so Lite and Micro versions only contain apps that are strictly related to this task.

nero_micro_lite

Nero Lite v8.3.6.0

Nero Lite edition is a custom made edition of Nero which includes only a few apps essential for CD/DVD burning. As a result the download size is reduced (It's around 30MB) and a lot of bloatware is left behind.

Nero Lite pack contains:

  • Nero Burning Rom (with VideoCD Support and MauSau Audio Plug-ins)
  • Nero Express
  • Nero CoverDesigner
  • Nero WaveEditor
  • Nero Toolkit

Nero Micro v8.3.6.0

Nero Micro is an even further stripped down version of Nero which has only two apps included in the package. Download size is even further reduced (around 20MB) as a result.

Nero Micro pack contains:

  • Nero Burning ROM (with VideoCD Support and MauSau Audio Plug-ins)
  • Nero Express

Popular bittorrent site  Araditracker has been shut down. The exact reason for the shut down is not known yet but it is suspected that it was due to legal pressure. And it is highly unlikely that Aradi's BT tracker will come back online ever again.

There is no official word on the shutdown in their IRC channel yet. The following line is all that is there related to the shutdown:

"No we don't know either, more info as and when "

For those interested, their official IRC channel is hosted in irc.foreverchat.net and the channel name is #araditracker. [mIRC users click here to access.]

Although I have not been active there recently, it was one of the first torrent sites I signed up for. It was a nice site and had a close knit community. R.I.P Araditracker

It is always sad to see a bittorrent site go down but in true Hydra fashion, several new trackers will soon pop up to fill the void. You can find information about private trackers and get notified about latest open signups via our Private Trackers Section.

BitRefinery.eu is currently open for new members. This site was formerly known as Nemezyz.com. BitRefinery is a private torrent tracker specializing in games and appz. They have XBOX, XBOX360, PS3, PS2 and PSP games as well as a decent Windows, Mac and mobile applications collection.

According to BitRefinery stats, they have close to 60000 members. Anyway they don't seem to disable members for inactivity that often. I had an account there which I didn't use for around 2 months and it still wasn't disabled. That being said, there are a plenty of active members both on the tracker and on the forums. BitRefinery currently tracks close to a thousand active torrents. Apart from content and activity the interface is nice and I particularly like the default color scheme. Check it out and you will not be disappointed.

ReleaseLog (RLSLOG) hacked?

Posted by TEAM FILEnetworks | 8/29/2008 | | 0 Comments »

It looks as if the popular scene releases indexing site ReleaseLog (better known as RLSLOG) has been hacked. There was an automatic redirect in place earlier that redirected all visitors to a notification about a new site named Zerosec.ws. Zerosec.ws is supposedly the new site from ex-RlsLog editors. Now the redirect seems to have been removed and on the homepage is a post by the administrator account. Judging by the comments from editors, it looks as if they are barred from making new posts.

rlslog hacked

Around two weeks ago there was this whole drama about several of RLSLOG editors leaving the site due to a conflict with the admin.

RLSLOG IRC Channel now has the following topic:

* Topic is 'Yes RLSLOG.net has been hacked, please be patient all will be fixed soon.'
* Set by Flat on Fri Aug 29 08:59:57

Anyway hacking the site in a childish manner does not seem to be the right way to resolve the problem and I really hope this won't be then end of RLSLOG as it was really a nice site.

Update: It seems that Martin (RLSLOG admin) has regained control of the site and everything seems to be normal.
